Inside the dulce de batata empanada -- which surprisingly also had cheese.
Abbe N.

I was passing through the area and stopped in here for a quick bite before any evening rushes could hit. Good timing -- three tables came in a little while after me, along with a few other people who had takeout orders! It was nice, everyone seemed friendly and people were chatting away with servers in that small-town vibe. I'd never had Argentinian cuisine specifically, but it's very close to past experiences in other establishments. There were some minor differences, but only one of them was relatively unpleasant. I'll start with the pleasant aspects: The place looked nice, and the atmosphere was different in a good way. The hanging baskets from the ceiling were eye-catching and cute, and the servers were relaxed and friendly. Everything had that cozy vibe, especially when other tables started coming in and chatting with the staff. Items came out in decent time, and I enjoyed house sauces offered, along with the popcorny-puffed fried exterior of their empanadas. Flavors were plentiful, and the four I'd tried were delicious! Dulce de batata was my favorite, but I'd need to do more sampling to figure which one tastes the best in my opinion. Sangría was fruity, but the white wine was sweeter and more peachy than the passion fruit mix, which was more acidic and nicely balanced. I didn't get to try the red one, but I imagine it tastes punchy. Fries were saltless (but still good; I don't think I could've handled the sodium), and the Sizzle Sandwich balanced that out nicely with bacon, cheese, and runny fried egg inside. The one unpleasant detail came with that though: The strip of steak on the sandwich, that also made up the layers in the Buenos Aires. It was tough, seemingly cut with the grain instead of against, making the meat really hard to break when taking a bite of anything. My friend complained of the same characteristics, and I was a little disappointed. If it was more tender, flaky, and maybe seasoned similarly to the empanada beef, it would've been absolutely incredible. I don't know if that's just how the region typically cooks their steak, but it needs a little twist, and that's why it's lacking a star. Especially since the sandwich is named after the building, I would've wanted it to be the 10/10 choice and potential bestseller. Empanadas are going to be the thing calling me back here in the future though, hands down.

@BigDudesBigFoods had a very filling meal at another amazing small business, @TheSizzleBBQ in #HackettstownNJ today. There is a multitude of delicious choices on the menu. Joe & I went with an #empanada assortment, a #cubansandwich and a #pulledpork burger with bacon and cheddar #SizzleBBQ is cool spot on the main drag in Hackettstown. They have a very friendly and informative crew who gave us a lot tasty meal ideas to try when we return. We will be back. #BigDudesBigFoods #SupportSmallBusiness #BDBFCertified #BDBF

Not sure why it says closed and permanently closed as well on apple maps because they are open. We also called for reservation but when we got there they didnt even write our name down so when we walked in they were saying they didnt have anyone with that name. I went with my family. We ordered dulce de leche empanada, apple empanada, chicken milanese, kids corn, argentinian sizzle mix for two. I cant believe the sizzle mix was only for 2 because there was 4 of us and we were full from it. They had some seating in the front and a private seating in the back for larger groups. They had one stall bathrooms and the decor looks nice.

This is a phenomenal little gem that I drove past daily in Hackettstown, NJ and never noticed. I'm newish to Morris County and still finding my way around. The food here is so beyond delicious... it just hugs my soul. Also I think is a cute place for a nice afternoon date. The service is awesome as well. Both days I was greeted with a big, warm, and friendly smile. I highly recommend The Sizzle BBQ not just for online ordering people. The weather is warming up finally and I say go and have brunch or lunch. My date and I will be back for dinner one evening and I'll be sure to post more pics. But until then definitely stop by... I promise you'll eat yourself into a food coma.

Ouch. Small portioned tacos and a credit card usage fee.

Had an opportunity to have lunch-with my wife- without the kids- during a weekday! Score! We came to the restaurant at 11:30 after reading other reviews that the dining room is smaller but Decorated nicely. We were seated immediately and at the time we were the only patrons in the dining room. Our waitress was pleasant and took our order. My ordered the lady in red salad and I initially ordered the tacos Al pastor but was told that they did not have that options so I opted for the shrimp tacos. We were offered bread that were slightly stale with three different types of spreads that were extremely flavorful. We were happy that we were at least seated and snacking on the stale bread because by noon the small dining room was full and we were still waiting on our entrees a half hour after placing our order. When we finally received our entrees my wife was pleased with her salad. She was especially happy that the strawberries were fresh. My shrimp taco were not flavorful. Although I did receive four taco the portion was EXTREMELY small. Each taco tortilla was the size of two silver dollars. For $18 it definitely was not worth it. The check came. We were surprised with the 3.99% credit card usage fee that was not disclosed until squaring away the bill.

Full order of pork ribs Portuguese style - delish!
Cat M.

Very nice! Cute interior with lots of nick knacks & pleasantly decorated. Family-run business. Plenty of parking in the back. BYO which is a plus! We tasted a variety of the Portuguese food. Be aware that this type of BBQ is different than others that have sauce slathered on them. This BBQ is very good! Beef empanada's served with 3 different sauces - so delish - meat was so tender & juicy - definitely recommend! Pork ribs - large, meaty & cooked well - not spicy, but good flavor. Beef rib combo & chicken were delish - beef had a great flavoring on it with some salt - spot on! Enjoyed the rice & house salad as well. Definitely a place to check out!

Family all decided to go for supper at The Sizzle BBQ... as we heard the food was great. Word of mouth was spot-on...The entrees , appetizers, smoothies, empanadas.. all FANTASTIC !!! Service was great... friendly and warm. Menu has LOTS to choose from! We all tried something different so we could get a taste of each type of meat... pork ribs! Pulled chicken!! Beef brisket!! So delicious!! You won't be disappointed going... Make sure to go with a good appetite if it's your first time ;) And definitely order a few empanadas ... so many to choose from!!

Marta N.

Cute little place! And the food was delicious. It was a little longer wait than we were quoted on the phone but we did place a pretty large order.

Bread with 3 sauces comes to the table first, spicy mustard, chimichurri, and a tomato and onion based sauce.

We were able to make a reservation, and the restaurant was kind enough to extend our reservation when we were delayed -- especially on one of their busiest nights of the week. Maria was exceptionally nice and helpful in making reservations. Food was delicious and enjoyable throughout all the courses. The Picanha and Beef Short Ribs were my favorites of the Rodizio. My parents split a steak entree and the salmon - the restaurant was kind enough to split both entrees on two plates for each of them. Both servings were generous. Had an Old Fashioned and a Caipirinha - both were excellent. They also have an extensive wine and whiskey menu. Service was pretty good. I would say the only hiccup was the food took forever to come, which seems strange for Rodizio. But I attribute the delay to the tardiness of two folks in our party, and a little inexperience of our server. But aside from that, he did a good job. We got to meet the manager Tatiana, who was fabulous - you can tell she cares about her craft, and the owner Joe, who was exceptionally kind and friendly. My niece and his son apparently went to the same school, so it was truly nice to make the acquaintance. I love to support small business, and it doesn't get better than this. I will make sure to stop here again soon - this was a fantastic experience.

I've heard that's common with Brazilian cuisine, but it was too salty for me. The paella was surprisingly small portion-wise compared to the way most restaurants serve it. ***If there's one review you should read before deciding to come here, it's this one. I'm about to…read morewax poetic.*** Let me preface by saying that I'm a young adult who considers himself a bit of a foodie. I work in Times Square so I usually frequent fine dining establishments in the city, but my home is North Jersey so I am acutely aware that there are some hidden gems in this state. Last week, I was at the Saddle River Inn in Saddle River and was blown away. But this place is far, far, even more exceptional. Greatest dining experience ever. Called the restaurant due to a last-minute cancelation in my party. Evan, a manager, was super helpful in waiving any cancelation fees. It's BYOB and there's a brewery across the street that apparently does takeout. I just brought beer from my house. They gave me chilled glasses and a bucket of ice to keep my refreshments chilled. Onto the ambience. You walk in and it's a nice, cozy little place with tables and a bar top with an open kitchen layout behind it. You can see all the food that's cooking and the presentations that go behind each dish - all live in front of you. The chef's were busy but always obliged when I said hey or asked a question. I tried the 5 course chef's tasting menu for $125. You get a little bit of all of the best flavors coming out of the kitchen. And the flavors are always changing. They source their ingredients from local farms. First came out complimentary course #1 - all I remember is it had crudo in it. Then course #1 - gulf shrimp with squid. This is the point where I decide no matter how else dinner plays out, I'm coming back. What fresh ingredients and creative flavor pairings. Next was course #2 - duck confit spring roll. It's just a smaller portion of what's regularly on their menu. This may have been my favorite item of the night. Next was wood fired octopus in tagliatelle pasta. After that, I believe, was complimentary course #2 - what appeared to be a caesar salad. Anything they make is delicious. Finally, I had an American wagyu strip as the fourth course. Absolutely delectable. At this point, I'm in Heaven. But I'm not quite yet full and ready for my dessert - profiteroles - one of my favorite desserts. I was looking forward to it from the moment I walked in and saw it listed on the tasting menu. I only eat 1 meal a day so when I finally eat, I eat a lot. A normal person would be full at this point, but I wanted more. I also couldn't help but think it might have something to do with me not wanting to leave and just try anything this kitchen made. So I ordered more. I asked for their regular menu and ordered some more duck confit spring rolls and some type of pork belly entree. Quick note - the pork belly entree was not good. You have to take the losses on the chin to make the wins matter more. Pork belly over beans? It was like bbq ribs meets an English breakfast. Please get rid of that, respectfully. After 3 bites, I didn't want any more so I quietly flagged down my server, Kat, and told her please quietly take this, I fully intend to pay for it since I ordered it; it's just no good. And I had been raving to her about every dish up until that point. So she insisted that she'd take it off the check. I insisted I'd pay, she kept insisting, so I relented. That's really good customer service. Now time for dessert. I wish I could say I was ending on a better note but the Profiteroles - which I mentioned is a favorite dessert of mine - massive disappointment. After everything else was put together for care, I got notes of freezer for this last one - especially the pumpkin part. I love this restaurant and I intend on returning as soon as possible, so please don't take offense to my constructive criticism. I applaud your efforts to infuse different flavors together. It is working wonders for you. Keep it up. I'm gonna share pictures of everything, including the menu. But the last 2 things I'll talk about are the cost and the service. With the pork belly entree taken off, it was just the 5 course tasting menu, an order of duck confit spring rolls, and a $6 double espresso. The total came out to $168 after taxes. I tipped $168. That's right. 100%. In a world where people like to dock tip percentages from their precious "20%" for what they perceive to be a lack of good service, let's normalize going above 25% for exceptional service. Not everyone can afford 100% like me, but next tip tip your servers 30-35% for exceptional service. As a former server in my heyday, I promise it'll mean more to them than the few extra dollars to you. And exceptional service is what I got. From manager Evan, to server Kat, to all of the others I met - forgive me if I forget any names. Chef Kelly, Chef Mike, Chef Jon, Keira, Jimmy. Thank you for an unforgettable 5-star experience. Keep up the exceptional work. I will see you again soon.

He was thinking of getting food off the menu but we decided to see how hungry we were after the wings. 12 wings were plenty and we couldn't even eat those. The Jack Be Nimble w/ Jack Daniel's sauce were our favorites and came with plenty of sauce. We enjoyed the ginger garlic honey as well which seemed more like a rub, but the JD was wet and better. Plus they bring out fresh chips which are supper crunchy and delicious. The wings came out super quick and our server Crystal B was very attentive. We ordered a few things including the BBQ Bulls eye burger, the Cordon Blue Burger (subbed beef patty) and the Fat Elvis which supposedly had gyro meat, cheesesteak, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks all on French bread/sub loaf. Also ordered seasoned fries with fry sauce. The Fat Elvis was actually interesting and decent, BUT again, I was starving. If I weren't starving, I think the sandwich would have been just ok. Not bad, but just ok. Also, I believe they actually made me the Fat Daddy vs the Elvis because I didn't see a trace of any gyro meat. The Bullseye burger was good according to my lunch buddy and he said he'd come back and dine again. He's a fan of anything with BBQ sauce so I'm not surprised. The Cordon Blue burger was just ok. Nothing special about the burger at all. The fries were just ok, nothing special at all and the Fry sauce didn't help make them taste any better. The server who took my order, didn't appear familiar with the menu and was clueless about several of the sandwiches on the menu which was odd and not helpful. I think this place would be benefit from a little sprucing up on the outside and inside, including ensure water is available for purchase and getting their machines and bathrooms working properly.
