    Ricotta Pancakes

Came here for brunch on Labor Day weekend; service was friendly, though a bit on the slower side--perhaps because they were short-staffed for the holiday weekend. My husband and I split the Florentine Omelette with hashbrowns and the Ricotta Pancakes. The omelette was tasty, though the potatoes weren't quite my style. The pancakes, on the other hand, were a standout--light, fluffy, and full of summer flavor with blueberries and a hint of lemon zest. The restaurant itself has a bright, open feel and would make a great spot for a private event.

We stopped here on our drive home from the Poconos - Yelp helped me find it! It's an upscale tavern with plenty of seating. We were hoping to sit at the bar but it was pretty full for midday on a Sunday. We sat at a booth in the back and our server was so sweet. She came over right away with a bread basket - I was shocked. Most restaurants these days don't offer bread so I was very pleasantly surprised! Must try: the short rib grilled cheese. I was planning on getting a burger but so glad I changed my mind. It was a snap decision and sooo worth it. The short rib with mozz cheese on thick texas toast was just what I needed.

Stopped in for a mini family dinner at this mediterranean restaurant. The bar looked so nice and inviting. Maybe next time we'll get there early for a drink. Our server was awesome! Our drinks came out fast. She was so helpful with the menu and gave accurate descriptions of the dishes. Needless to say we ordered based on that and were not disappointed! If you love seafood I highly recommend the Seafood Risotto. The picture does not do it justice. It was creamy delicious and fresh! I was able to taste the other dishes, large portions so that helped and my family loves to share. All I can say is BRAVO! The food was amazing and our server was wonderful, I'll definitely be back!

If you're looking for a good spot to stop near the hotels around Stanhope, this is the place. The inside is setup exactly how a tavern should be, with dining around the outside areas of the bar. My waitress was very nice and had some good recommendations. Additionally, the drinks were delicious and I ended up getting the French onion soup to start which was rich in flavor. Lastly, the smothered chicken as an entree was the perfect choice to have if you want a great meal twice! The portions were huge and had very tender chicken.

This little gem of a place has some really good food and they give you plenty. Heres a new one for ya i never had mussels made with mozzarella cheese added to it but as strange it sounds it was shockingly good and the grilled cheese short rib sandwich was really good but let get to the staff. I met one of the most Awesome waitress I've ever encountered her level of attention and friendliness was beyond the realm of any Waitress ive encountered she was the best of the best this young lady was great no hesitation of going above and beyond. There was 9 of us. I must say we all had this young lady going back and forth and not even one complain she was really a hard worker and friendly and smiling. Like you really don't see this type worker that much. Her name was Dalton. We were all really impressed with her service beyond excellent made our dining experience wonderful I personally saw all the wait staff and the hostess working very hard these young people are the perfect examples of hard working people doing their best. I was really impressed with everything Not one complain from anyone from our table and we are very picky but appreciate good food. Plus being a chef for so many years my table looked to my opinion thumbs up this place and waitstaff pass This place is a great family restaurant . Thanks to the staff for making my best friends birthday awesome 08/10/24 6pm Great job back and front of house Thank you Dalton you are truly a wonderful waitress. Yours truly Chef Ramos

The ambiance here was fantastic. I love the dark wood cabin feel with vaulted ceilings. I thought that this was just a basic tavern restaurant. I really had no expectations because we were hungry and just pulled in because it looked like a happening place. There were a mix of booth seating, tables plus bar seating. It is a large space and it was a busy night. There were so many people having dinner some who came in for dinner on their own, couples, families plus there was a small party. We were seated right away and we had a very attentive waitress. We were immediately given warm focaccia bread (yummy) which was perfect because we were all hungry. They did offer the basics like fresh ground burgers, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, I was pleasantly surprised that there were some Mediterranean options like grilled octopus, spanakopita, plus more. We started with their zucchini chips (ranch dip my choice, delicious), fried calamari (fresh and very large slices) and we debated over their grilled octopus which we did not order. What a big mistake (definitely a reason to come back). When I looked around there were people who did order the octopus and it looked delicious. For dinner we had the short rib grilled cheese, BBQ baby back ribs (literally tender fall off the bone), Stifado (pasta with chunks of short rib), and smothered chicken. Everyone really enjoyed their dinner. For me personally I really enjoyed their appetizers. The portions here were very generous and we all had a great time.

Two couples went for dinner on a Friday evening at 7pm. We had a reservation and were quickly seated in a booth (which we requested). We ordered drinks which arrived as expected (2 beers, seltzer and martini). No appetizers were ordered since they gave us some butter garlic bread. I ordered the "Pork Chop" and it was very good (not dry). The ladies ordered the "Smothered Chicken" and it was also very good. My friend ordered the "Just Chicken Parm" which he really liked. My wife ordered her dish with penne pasta instead of whipped potatoes and she was glad she did since they don't ask if you want another option. Otherwise the waitress was great. It was a little loud because there was a large table and the kids were screaming but after they left all good! All sides were very good as well. Portions are large and so the prices are reasonable. We will be back soon!

The coagulated mass of melted Mozzarella Pulled if my muscles!

Don't go Italian! I'm from Brooklyn so being in the hub of Italian maybe I'm biased but this here is a prime example when you have non Italian white people trying to cook traditional Italian dishes that just don't work Appetizer: Started with the muscles did not read the menu thoroughly. Just so ya know you never melt mozzarella on top of muscles marinara unless you're trying to hide something! The muscles were oversized, old and chewy sauce was bland and watery then topped off with tons of mozzarella?! Ya never dump melted cheese on seafood people! Not good, Couldn't finish. Entree: Penne à la Vodka: bland, boring, average at best ate it to be kind. Wine: Fantastic. Service: was rushed not personal. Sit, Eat and rushed ya to get out. Waitress Christiana, ya saw my wine wasn't done so not once but twice you asked me if I was done! Then i was felt I was in the wrong! Stick to burgers and chicken tenders and other traditional Americana dishes leave the Italian to the Italians.

This was, sadly, not a good meal and based on expectations easily one of the most disappointing experiences I've had in recent memory. I came here yesterday with my top-tier chum from the Kingdom of Sussex, along with my #1 Honorary Young Pup Chum, fresh off a 20-mile walk down the Sussex Branch Rail Trail - so a bit tired and very hungry. Black Forest got me (and my appetite) in the best situation for them, in theory. Unfortunately it stayed just a theory. The atmosphere in here by far is the biggest selling point. I love a good taxidermy situation, and this place had it in droves. We were seated near a bear, and had eyes on numerous other wildlife, preserved for eternity. The stained glass throughout the restaurant is also pretty wild - it feels like you decided to go to church in a European hunting lodge. It's also deceptively large in there, which I discovered later as I tried to locate the bathroom (there is no signage for that) and wandered into two or three different dining rooms. Just wild and really does set this place apart from virtually any other restaurant in the area (maybe the far superior Walpack Inn can lay a claim?). I was intrigued by the Potato Pancakes w/ Applesauce on the appetizer menu, which ended up being the best item I ate. As you can see in the attached photo, they're basically big hash browns. They were good, and the applesauce made for an interesting palate combo. In what ended up being a bizarre theme throughout the meal, the accompanying applesauce came in a small plastic container that you had to open. This to me is one of the more egregious self-inflicted wounds I've seen from a restaurant, but also pretty fixable. This wasn't a crab shack at the beach or a taqueria in Newton - this is a restaurant with white tablecloths. Why aren't you serving the accompanying sides in a nicer dish, like a ramekin? What makes it more mystifying is that they HAD ramekins or something similar - they served the wrapped butter for the stale dinner rolls in it. I genuinely don't have a clue what the thought process was, but it honestly cheapened the optics and is something they should stop doing immediately. For my entree, I went classic German with the veal wienerschnitzel and a side of spatzle. The wienerschnitzel itself was fine - I've honestly had better from a food truck in Jersey City called Mordi's (I just checked and sadly they've closed), but it had no sauce or anything so it was super dry and overall not that tasty as a result. It would have even been an upgrade to get one of their infamous plastic containers of basically any condiment. The spatzle was honestly terrible; I had an excellent version of this at an Austrian restaurant in FiDI called Schilling (which has now converted to a French restaurant, apparently; I can't with these closures. Lord.), and this was just utterly tasteless. My chum likened it to "brain noodles," meaning the noodles you'd use in a blindfold game around Halloween. Fair, but even some of those probably had some flavor to them. Huge miss. I'm not sure why I kept going at this point but I decided to end this situation with the Black Forest Cake. It was a little stale (maybe it's kept in the same area as the dinner rolls?), but it was okay. Could have been worse, so I'm taking that as a victory of sorts. The chocolate mousse within it got positive remarks from my other dining companions in the context of their items, so that's probably the play if you're hitting up the dessert menu. The service was mediocre. Our waitress was very nice when she came to our table, which was infrequent. It seemed like she was waiting for food to come out (which took a while) as the context for a visit, rather than taking initiative to check on us. The Young Pup Chum waited close to 15 minutes for a second soda, which shouldn't have happened, especially given that we were there at a VERY slow time (just before 4pm). And the price point was honestly close to insulting. Neither of us are opposed to plunking down some Jacksons for a nice meal, but getting a bill for $200 (plus tip!) for not great food was not a fun feeling to close out our afternoon. I hate to end this on a dark note, but given that my two recommendations for German food in the area have both closed, you might not have much of a choice but to come here if you're hankering for schnitzel.
