Found this gem on our way from NY to Jim Thorpe. Came in for lunch and it was busy. It's a former mansion so the dining space is separated into various rooms. The smaller rooms are a bit cramped but cozy. The ambiance is very interesting because you have interesting decor and fixtures to look at. Food was really good, I was pleasantly surprised. One of the reasons I chose this place was for its unique dishes. They had a pumpkin soup that was really yummy. The duck and schnitzel dishes were really good too. read more

I stopped into The Bell Mansion in Stanhope while I was in town for work (we had a table read for a commercial shoot at Wild West City the next two days). I was dining solo, but you'd never feel "alone" here--service was that good. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays and had a warm, inviting vibe. My server Vasco was amazing and steered me toward the fish with jasmine rice--absolutely the right call. Delicious, well-prepared, and just a great overall dining experience. I came here with family for a special occasion and made a reservation ahead of time. The waitress and hostess were kind but we must have come during a busy time because service was a little slow. The dish I ordered was the beef wellington medium rare and unfortunately it was rather bland and some parts undercooked, some overcooked. After adding some salt, it was still lacking in flavor, I barely tasted the mushroom duxelles. However, the ambiance and seating were very nice. Unfortunately, for the price, the ambiance, seating, and service could not make up for the bland entree. Especially a beef wellington priced at over $40. read more

I can't believe it had been over 9 years ago that we last dined at Bell's Mansion. Today, my wife and I joined 4 other couples for a Sunday Holiday Brunch here. The restaurant, which always has a cozy feel to it, steps it a notch for Christmas. The decorations were beautiful, and we even had a live Gingerbread Man for pictures! We started off with cocktails, of course. Lots of mimosas and a few of us had the Bell's Bloody Mary, which was delicious with olives and bacon. For my entree, I had the Cranberry Citrus Pancakes. Served with homemade whipped cream, they were very good! We can't wait another 9 years before we come here. It's a nice place, with friendly service, and very reasonable prices. Have been wanting to try Bell's for a while. Glad we did. The food was fine, but the decor and history were great. One of the biggest hits was the fresh, warm bread served at the beginning of the meal. Our server was good, and the burrata with roasted beet appetizer was very tasty. The homemade pierogies were also a hit. It wasn't very crowded when we went, so we were able to walk around and look at some of the decor and the historic bar. I placed my order around noon on February 27 and scheduled pickup for 2:30. When I arrived, the food was cold and the usual loaf was missing, which was disappointing since I timed it to be warm and fresh. I had a guest and was bragging abt signature bread that's normally included after main meal and $90 lunch spend. but it was not. When I called in the order, I was asked if I'd like to leave a tip. I normally don't tip on takeout, and I can't help but feel that my order may have been treated differently because of that. The menu is diverse - there is something for everyone! The warm bread slices are bigger than your head and super yummy! We loved it so much we went two days in a row for lunch on the outside back patio. We enjoyed the pierogi, clams with chorizo, salmon, snapper, tuna and salads. Favorite place ever! It always feels like home. My family and I had early dinner. Their steak (Ribeye) was tasty. I have become a fan of the red snapper and the seafood stew as well. Good food at this spot, tucked away in downtown Stanhope in a beautiful historic house. As is often the case in restaurants set in former houses, the dining area is split into multiple small rooms. Original wood floors abound and the place is teeming with antiques and memorabilia. The bar is in room on the right, about a dozen stools plus a few high tops. The bar is filled with regulars; always a good sign when the locals eat at an in-town spot. Our party was late to arrive, but our table was held and we were seated promptly. Our server, Marissa, was great. Answered menu questions, got the order details right without writing them down and was engaging and charming. Thank you! Time from order to service about 20 minutes. Room volume where we sat is pretty high, so raised voices to converse are a must. Presentation is spot-on here. Care is taken to plate each entree and each is visually pleasing at service. I tried crab cakes. A pair of 5" cakes are served atop polenta, sided by a few stalks of asparagus and topped with a brown sauce. Crab cakes were good - big chunks of lump crab meat with a small amount of filler, pan seared for a crunchy crust, juicy and moist on the inside. The polenta was creamy, perfect texture. Asparagus steamed right - slightly crunchy and not mushy. The whole combination was good, but it lacked pizzazz. Perhaps the crab cakes could be topped with a tangy roumelade or dusted with some Old Bay. It was good, but not stand out. Ended the meal with a scrumptious cannoli. a very crunchy shell stuffed with homemade filling. The ricotta and mascarpone filling is the perfect ratio - not too tart, not too sweet - creamy and rich, with a couple of mini chocolate chips folded in. It's a sizeable menu; everything from pizza and wings to beef wellington. Plenty of other things to try next time. read more

I been wanting to come here for quite sometime now. Everyone talked up their Beef Wellington as the best around. It was our Anniversary so we decided to take the 1 hr drive to Bell's Mansion. My boyfriend made a reservation for 7:30p on a Saturday night. We arrived 20 mins early so we sat at the bar first, and had a couple of their signature cocktails. We both ordered their FRENCH MARTINI-Grey Goose Vodka, Chambord, and a Splash of Pineapple Juice. They were excellent. The two lady bartenders were so sweet, friendly and nice. They made excellent drinks. We wound up being seated at 8:40p even with our reservation. We were very surprised that we were seated outside. We figured since it was our anniversary we'd be seated in their dining room. We were both dressed up thinking this was a dressier place. On their web page they say their business casual. People walked in wearing very casual shorts and tees, like they were hanging in their local bar.This is not what I was expecting. The hostess seated us. Our table outside was lopsided. My boyfriend had to get on his hands and knees and put napkins underneath the legs because our drinks kept sliding down the table. All the servers were busy and there weren't any busboys to help. It just seemed like they had too many people and not enough servers. To make matters worse they had a big party going on inside in their dining room. This set everyone's reservation back. Two ladies came in after us, and they were immediately seated.The two of them were immediately given water and their homemade bread. We continue to wait for another 20 mins before our server Christina came over.She was very friendly and nice, she did the best she could.We were told everything was backed up in the kitchen, too many people and a party going on inside. I placed our order for APPETIZER - SATAY TRIO- Marinated Chicken,Shrimp, and Beef in a Salsa Verde Sauce. It was good except it wasn't hot. I also placed my order with the appetizer for two BEEF WELLINGTON DINNERS.(By the way, the Beef Wellington's are $42 not $26.) I ordered both Beef Wellington's med- rare more to the rare side instead of medium. We finally got bread and water, then waited another 20 minutes for appetizer, and another 30 minutes for our Beef Wellingtons. By this time we were starving. The presentation of my Beef Wellington was lovely. My only issue with my Beef Wellington was it was completely overcooked to Medium and my food wasn't hot it was barely room temp. I'm not a fan of cold unseasoned mashed potatoes,they needed salt and pepper. My boyfriend's beef Wellington was fine.I kept quiet because I didn't want to ruin our Anniversary dinner. I knew if I sent it back it would probably be another 20 to 30 minutes and by that time I was done. After dinner Christina gave us a house shot of Polish Nalewka Driadka. The servers walk around with it and gave out shots. It had a very interesting taste, like nothing I've ever tasted. We asked for more bread but they ran out. Their bread is all homemade and it was delicious. There wasn't much ambience. Outside is a long L shaped bar and a bunch of wooden tables and chairs. There was a hillside garden but not a lot was in bloom. I got a bit cold, because I didn't know I'd be sitting outside, and I didn't have a jacket. I don't know if I would return.If I did it would be for one of their sandwiches on their homemade bread. Their Beef Wellington for me was a bust! I wouldn't waste the money on it. The bread here is fantastic! We asked for a side of bread to start after our friends had raved about it. Sunday brunch menu has a mix of breakfast and lunch options. I was pleased with my the French toast which was drizzled with caramel sauce and a lemony whipped cream. My husband's Breakfast BLT was messy but good. Food-2.5- Poor.. wednesday at 5:15pm. ordered fried calamar, cheese burger med/rare with fries, filet mignon, med rare with mashed potatoes and spinach. Calamari was chewy and no crisp at all, small plate half frizzled onion, half calamari. Burger came out medium well and the fries were browned but mushy soft. Filet came out medium, no char at all. The mashed were placed on the plate the spinach on top of the potatoes and the filet pushed down on top of it all. It was obvious the fryer was not up to temperature. All fried items were mushy and greasy. apparently the meats were being slow cooked waiting for the fryer to heat. Disappointed! read more

Sliced bread was good. Shrimp and lobster tail was amazing. Nicely displayed lobster tail on top of pasta with shrimp and the sauce was perfect to close the day. We also had calamari as an appetizer and calamari was very crispy outside but very soft and tender inside. I still can't forget how good it was. Must get calamari at Bell's Mansion. Also, I liked the house which I assume it was built many years ago and now it's being used as a restaurant. Made me think of the movie Conjuring! read more

What a surprise! My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this absolute gem when she googled for a spot after realizing we couldn't get parking at a nearby restaurant. I've lived in this area almost three years to the date and never heard of Bells Mansion and just driving up to the parking lot was completely intrigued. A giant bronze stag greeted us as we were parking set in front of a beautiful early 19th century home. Old wood and historic decor brought us back in time. We were lead into the parlor by a very friendly host, sat and the magic ensued. Moments later we were greeted by our waiter and unfortunately having forgotten her name felt immediately at home and optimistic about what lied ahead. We started with the chicken nachos which were delicious and shared the seafood stew. Absolutely delicious! There are subtle nuances that I as a chef look for and the chef delivered. The broth was perfectly seasoned, the fish and shellfish were cooked to perfection and my only advice would be to season the crispy potatoes that are placed on top! Don't forget the little details but this in no way changes my rating. Service, ambience and food are really top notch and we can't wait to go back. After dinner we walked the outdoor garden and seating areas and were just blown away. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you Bells Mansion for providing a wonderful experience beginning to end. Food is very good but not rave worthy. The pancakes, however, were amazing. Service was great & the place itself is quite nice. Definitely a good choice if you want to have a conversation with multiple people. No issues with noise whatsoever. The only thorn was ordering a Macallan. It wasn't Macallan. The server said she saw the bartender pour it from the bottle, but that's definitely not what was inside it. No offer to take it back or off the bill. We have gone here intermittently; price tag is a factor but not the quality of the food or service. The ambiance is definitely not modern, but you get an old fashion mansion feel. The food is incredibly- best onion soup in the area. We have our favorites, Chicken Joshua, salmon, surf n turf, season dishes, filet mignon, and dessert are beyond any dessert lover's expectations! As far as the ghostly experience... I am a believer and we (husband, not a believer) have experienced, on two separate occasions, something unfamiliar and not normal. As you walk in, they maintain the mansion feel, and you are dining in a smaller room, not a large dining area which we love. They have these beautifully etched wine glasses on every table. The waitress was very attentive. Appetizer We had Jalapeno & Cheddar Pierogies with Chipotle mayo ranch sauce on the side. It was really good, the jalapeno flavor was not overpowering. The sauce was delicious. Main course Pork Ossobucco A bed of Risotto, Sauteed Spinach. It had Very mild flavor, the pprk fell right off the bone was tender and juicy, the spinach was cooked perfect, the bed of risotto was a very healthy serving, to much for me it didnt need the large portion being the pork is the headloner. Chicken Joshua Pan fried Panko crusted chicken breast, feeah mozzarella, tomato+garlic bruschetta balsamic reduction. Well the waitress was sweet. Beguiling, proud of the old mansion, pointing out highlights when I showed interest while waiting...waiting...waiting for a $33 cardboard mini pizza with some bland tomato and bland cheese flopped on it and a coke, a double espresso and something I never get - a single beer which I didn't finish. Simply not a drinker. But you know who were drinkers? Big drinkers? Keep 'em coming unproductive members of society guzzling Gwendolyn's? Rolling, cackling, loud and absurdly rude drinkers the entire punishing time I was there? The Ladies Who Lunch, as Stritch sang about. Four dowdy frumpy no doubt local Stanhope socialites...from the 1950's in spirit and behavior. These Ladies lurched too on their occasional vacations to the loo on to hurry back and share more uproarious insights from old tv series they were binging. There they are now as I type this, struggling to get into their vehicle. God bless 'em. Think I'll give 'em plenty of lead time. Look. I don't mind people having a good time. Cutting loose. Being themselves. And maybe these women just got back from a funeral or they're all orphans. Who knows. But you eat in a restaurant, act civilly. And you run a restaurant, at least make an effort to encourage civility. But these four noise hurricanes were non-stop sources of interrupted irritation. Why? They're special. Should be real special when they drive home wiggle-wheeled and giggling like chickens on laughing gas. So why offer these harsh observations? I don't get out much, being a productive member of society and when I do, I don't kindly to yahoos ruining the experiences or restaurants that could care less about loud soused lushes. Maybe you will like stale badly made overpriced "pizza". Perhaps you adore shelling out big money for a little liquid. And hey the place was empty so why shouldn't it take 45 minutes to make the equivalent of a Tree Tavern pizza? Maybe you will come here and dig all that. Maybe I could have stomached all that but when an eatery allows a clearly inebriated quartet of matronly inconsiderate malcontents Shanghai the entire room for hours, that's not right. At one point another solo victim enduring this circus on the moon figured you can't beat 'em, so join 'em and hollered something over to them. That worked. Like gas on fire. I'm sure the owner and Bell's P Mansion employees are nice folks who are mighty proud of their four foot long giant loaves of bread that sit on furniture in the hall like cushions absorbing every passing organism. And I was tempted earlier to shout to two women walking in to "bring earplugs!" But it's not my place to comment on restaurants gone wild. read more

Exquisitely Underwhelming -- this place is ALL "style" (ambience) and NO (0%) "substance" ... the food we had was ALL extremely "bland" and almost tasteless PLUS! the most annoying thing about it all was WE ASKED REPEATEDLY for our Shrimp, Salmon And Lobster to be cooked "well done" (firm) and even tho the waitress asked if the Shrimp on the Caesar Salad app was cooked enuff and I said "NO!, can they cook my entree much more than this" it came out under-cooked and fleshy - I didn't even eat 3/4 of the shrimp on my dish because it was so undercooked (like "shrimp sushi!") and NO acknowledgement from the management or wait staff that my order was COMPLETELY not prepared to my likening after REPEATED requests (!) ... we will never ever go back to this overpriced place who obviously don't care about their customers one bit! Outdoor seating in warmer months cant be beat--it's like a tented secret garden complete with live music, singing birds and beautiful ambience. The digital menus are great although you can end up looking for a live server, once your initial order is in, for days. The food is nothing to write home about but tasty at times. My sister got a salmon which was okay. The sauce was a little too sweet, and the risotto was creamy. Packed house on a Saturday! They were able to accommodate and sit us at the outside bar. Limited bar drink menu in my opinion. Martinis are their "special." Food look extremely long, over an hour to come out. After 30 minutes of ordering, the waitress told us that they ran out of what my fiancé had ordered, beef wellington...upsetting. It took another thirty minutes for our food to come out. I wish they had kept an eye on a dish that was running low... lack of communication. By the time we got our food, closing time, we didn't even bother to order dessert. Fortunately, the food itself was incredible. Temperature was done correctly. Flavor was there.
