This was our first time trying the Taphouse Grille and I will say I wasn't disappointed. Walking in the restaurant is very clean and has a nice chill vibe to it. Whether your going to the bar or going for a sit down meal there is a nice separation if your bringing the family. The service was quick and our server was on top of everything continuously checking in to see if all was good. The food was pretty good although one burger was slightly under cooked it was not terrible. The portions were big and the fries come plain so you can add whatever you need to, to make them the way you like them. I see other people feel the same way I do about this place based on other reviews and I am not picky. Just good food for a decent price is all we expect. This place is not that kind of place. I'm really disappointed with how much this place has changed since the new ownership took over. The quality has gone downhill drastically. When we ate there, the food was extremely salty, and when I ordered online, the meal arrived so undercooked that I actually had to finish cooking it myself at home. This used to be a reliable spot, but after these experiences, I can't recommend it anymore. Ordered beet and goat cheese salad. Supposed to come with tomato's and cucumber (as a salad should). Well, there were a nice few beets. LOADS of lettuce. I could hardly find the goat cheese because there was maybe just a teaspoon of it. I got 2 slices of cucumber and 1 grape tomato cut in half. Sadly very disappointing to say the least. We ended up here the other night, a party of 7, hoping they could accommodate us. They were very helpful and sat us right away. Service was fantastic! The waitress recommended a drink and it was delicious. For having 7 people we got our apps pretty fast. Buffalo chicken dip and nachos were very good. So was the shrimp. For dinner I had the salmon with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. I hate Brussel sprouts....these were amazing!!! I could eat an entire plate of them. Staff was super attentive. I've been here multiple times now: with other people, on a date, or by myself. No matter how you decide to dine, I've enjoyed my time here. When myself, they leave me be so I can listen to my audiobook over lunch. Or with other people and the servers have been friendly and welcoming. In the past, I've tried their hot buffalo wings, lemon pepper wings, roasted beet & goat cheese salad with salmon, pizza marghertia, and meat lover's pizza. All was great but I'm not a huge beet person myself (like it but not love it, if you catch my drift) so I will probably ask for less the next time I decide to have that salad again! Our club held a luncheon at The Taphouse Grill yesterday and I cannot praise the manager, Paige and our server, Nancy, enough. Paige was a delight to work with. She accomodated all of our requests for seating arrangements, the menu food selections and cost. Nancy, our server was so professional and exceptional in serving the 34 members who attended. Absolutely awful experience & meal, on Mother's Day, no less. We waited nearly 1 1/2 hours for lunch in a half empty restaurant. Waiter rarely came around. Management apologized, yet we waited even longer. Food arrived with wilted lettuce, a crab cake with the texture of grits and a mushroom risotto that was bland. Management didn't even proactively (or retroactively) offer credit for any of the meal. Will never return. They continually compounded the bad experience - needlessly. read more

Great casual place that's fantastic for watching sports & has a great choice in beers that they routinely change. The menu is simple & has a lot of good choices on it. Wings & the shrimp apps are my go to's for a starter. For dinner, I usually go with the pizza which is thin crust & very tasty or a burger. The turkey burger is real good & I love the fries. Taphouse Grille is located in a strip mall across the street from the ShopRite complex on Route 53. I was craving some French Onion soup so I took to Yelp and found this and place. There was no wait so we opted to sit in a comfy booth that surrounded a large bar area. Our server was quick to take our drink order and food order. I just HAD to crush my craving and got a French onion soup and a buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich. Food came out quick. The French onion soup was impressive. I would be happy eating everyday if I had to. It was tasty and topped with crispy fried onions and cheese. The crispy chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese, fresh house made slaw with a side of fries was also very tasty. I should have asked for a side of hot sauce. That would have been perfection. The fries were crispy and tasted like they were made from fresh oil. For a nice lunch or dinner I would definitely check it out. We will be back for sure! read more

We go here a lot. It's definitely a hit or miss kind of place. Some of the food is amazing. Some of the food is not great. It's usually dependent on the day of the week. When it's slower we love the food and drinks. When it's busy, you get A LOT of over cooked or dry food. Plan accordingly, lunch time seems to be the best time to go ! Did you know if you were in space without a spacesuit the side facing the sun would be burnt to a crisp while the side facing away would freeze? I feel like that happened yesterday with my burger. I ordered it medium rare - Pink & juicy. The burger came out rare, cold, raw even. Worse than rare as shown in the image. You could probably hear the cow moo. Ok. The waiter was very nice. This review is just for my bar experience. I was here around dinner time and sat at the bar. I saw down and was greeted with a menu thrown down at me with the bartender walked away. There were only a handful of other patrons sitting down. I wasn't even offered a drink or a friendly "hello, how are you". By the time the bartender came back around to me (a different one), I was ready to order. The menu barely has any middle-ground items. It's either all appetizers or entree's. The only items in-between were a couple burgers or pizza. Add some sandwiches, wraps, or some chicken dishes as well! I ordered my drink and food at the same time. My food arrived shortly thereafter and it was cooked exactly how I wanted. It's hard to find a restaurant that cooks a burger perfect the first time. Got together the other day with an old friend, who suggested eating here. He has been here once or twice with his son, and they had enjoyed it. I was coming off 4 straight days of migraines, 4 straight days of the heavy-duty medication I take to alleviate those migraines (it stops the headache pain, but wipes me out physically), so my unenthusiastic, zombie-like response was, "Yeah...ok...whatever." (My usual funny diversionary story...well, I think it's funny; that very morning I had stopped at the Walgreens to pick up my renewed migraine prescription. In front of me on the line was a pleasant young woman who smiled and said, "Hi!" "Hi," I said back, unused to such friendliness from total strangers. "Y'know," she continued, "You look like Steve Bannon." Aghast, I sputtered out, "Ah...that's not much of a compliment, but...thanks...I think." Worried that she might have unintentionally engaged an aging, volatile psycho, she said, "Oh, no, you're handsome, it's just that..." Trying to recover myself, startled by that surge of prickly adolescent vanity that I thought I had buried down deep within my psyche decades ago, I smiled shakily and said, "Well...I guess he'd look ok if he didn't dress like a bum, and if he shaved, and lost a few pounds, got a haircut, took a shower...." To my sudden chagrin, I realized that described not only Steve Bannon but me too. Perfectly. As soon as I got the prescription, I raced home, showered, shaved, set up an appointment for a haircut. Not sure what I'm gonna do about the extra pounds, but we'll see...) Taphouse Grille is a big place, located in a strip mall across the street from the Shop Rite. On entering, we were asked if we wanted to be seated at the bar. I don't mind sitting at the bar if it means I don't have to stand in a long line waiting to be seated, but as the restaurant was virtually empty, I thought it was unnecessary. Too, my friend is a recovering alcoholic/drug-addict, and the last place he needs to be seated at is the bar. (At one point, years ago while returning from a Ramones concert, he drove into a telephone pole, and had to have his face surgically reconstructed. No one else in the car was hurt, but they kept the guy sitting in the back seat in the hospital overnight, as his heart was beating like a trip hammer. They thought it was overexcitement from the accident, but it was more because he had been hoovering up cocaine all night. After several more years of nearly killing himself, my friend sobered up. The other guy is still alive but suffering from stage-4 liver failure as I write this. Sorry for that grim detour down Memory Lane. Anyway...) We got a seat in the back, away from the bar. The prices weren't cheap, although not so exorbitantly expensive as to make a meal in this place untenable. I ordered the TG Burger (wasn't until I got a full night's sleep and recovered somewhat that I recognized the TG stood for "Taphouse Grille"). It was a substantial burger, cooked right, with caramelized onions, aged Irish cheddar (never heard of that before, but it seemed an appropriate accoutrement for an aged Irish migraine sufferer), bacon, and mushrooms. I enjoyed the burger; every once in awhile, I get a yen for a burger, but I abhor the "fast food" versions. This one hit the spot. I was less enthused about the French fries, which were more like "shoestring potatoes" than they were French fries that I'm used to. I also ordered a side dish of "Cheddar grits." Every once in awhile, I get a yen for grits (I developed a taste for them when I was a kid and my father would drive the family down to Florida for summer vacation; we'd stay in southern motels, eat at the motel restaurants, and grits were a staple). Never had "Cheddar grits" before, but they were delicious and creamy; I can taste them even now. My friend ordered a chicken dish, but expressed a wish that he had ordered what I had ordered. Not to say that he didn't ultimately enjoy what he had on his plate. Down side? The prices aren't cheap, the "french fries" aren't terrible but they aren't great either, and they play pretty bad music on their sound system, although not as distressingly awful as what they habitually play in supermarkets across NJ. We didn't stay around for dessert, but...overall...I like this place. I'd come here again. The waitress was pleasant and efficient, the food was tasty and satisfying, and it seems like a relaxing place to spend time with friends and family. Thumbs up. read more

This place is definitely cool, especially for Hackettstown. Based on the reviews and the general description of the place, I was really excited to check it out. The reality of the Taphouse isn't as cool as the expectation, or at least my expectation. But it's still pretty cool. There is plenty of seating, but it kind of has an odd layout with how the bar is in relation to the rest of the restaurant. The menu is interesting, and most of the items look tasty. We had the Steakhouse Burger and the Turkey Burger. The Turkey Burger could have used more guacamole. My biggest problem is with the steak fries, they were way to big, they looked like a potato was cut in sixths. A little smaller and they would have been a lot better. The food here is usually pretty good, but it's not out of this world spectacular. Go here for the beer, not the food. They have tons of beers to choose from - lots of them are on tap. The service is good, the bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers which is great since there are so many to choose from Service was good, as were the prices. The whole experience was just "okay", but I would definitely go back again for another try. The place is cool enough to warrant that. read more

Save your money & go support the local breweries that are GREAT & appreciate the business instead of this place. The worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. It seems that most of the reviews are settled by giving a comped meal or discount. Why not just have good service & food so that people don't need to be discounted? Save yourself a headache and travel to OMG Burger or Grand Ave Tavern where the food is edible & not an overcooked/undercooked hazard.
