Argentine cuisine is a blend of influences from the Italian and Spanish immigrants with its chief national product, beef. They say the reason Argentine steak is so good is that its cattle graze on the country's plentiful pampas grass, rather than being grain-fed as American cattle are. The result is leaner, more flavorful, and more nutritious beef. One such establishment is on Moonachie Road in Moonachie, where my partners, our friends and I decided on Saturday dinner. Reservations were easily made via OpenTable. Upon entering this cozy, modern interior of Tango Steak as first-timers, we were greeted by the host and got a table right away. We were here 3 years ago when it was El Tango Argentina Grill. The vibe has completely changed. It's now darker and louder, not family-friendly. Music was at a decent volume and does seem to increase as it gets later, giving it a lounge type. As an appetizer, we started with Beef and Chicken Empanadas as well as Calamares (Calamari). For our main meal, we decided on the Extrana (Skirt Steak) with Mashed Potatoes & Chimichurri Sauce and Tango Burger accompanied with Fries. Food was good, not awesome. Our appetizers were tasty and well seasoned. The Skirt Steaks tasted fantastic with the Chimichurri Sauce. The Mashed Potatoes had a nice texture. However, some of us asked that their Tango Burgers be made medium but came out well done. The Fries were salty and very dry. Our service was horrendous, but our server was Nathaly who was accommodating and apologetic. Some of us had gotten their appetizer faster than others. The duration between our appetizers and the main meal was an hour. The food was not cheap given the portions received and the 20% gratuity added automatically to the bill. This is such an aesthetically pleasing restaurant. My friend took me here as an early bday dinner and I had a great experience. We came around 7pm and it wasn't that busy. There's free valet parking ( the parking entrance is a bit inconspicuous so make sure to slow down so you don't miss it. Extra note: The valet attendant expects a tip at the end. They had outdoor furniture so there's outdoor seating when it's warm. The place is smaller than I imagined but really beautiful. I ordered the champagne bubble drink ( $24) and it was delicious! I had dinner at Tango Steak on a Saturday for a birthday party. It was pretty empty when we arrived for the 7pm reservation. We were welcomed and seated quickly. The decor is really modern and chic. I love the little photo op in the back with the neon sign! Super cute. There was even a girl who runs social media who took photos with her camera of the birthday girl and I. She even sent them to us after she uploaded them! We ordered drinks first and I wasn't in a big drinking mood so I only had the mojito. I wish it was more flavorful. The rest of the table tried their white and red sangria. They preferred the red sangria. We also ordered appetizers. We got the calamari, pulpo a la parrilla, and empanadas. Came here for the first time on a date and let me tell you I loved everything about this restaurant to start the ambiance and decoration are so comfy and cozy perfect for a date the music was not too loud and it was a Thursday evening so not crowded at all. This wasn't the first time that I've come to Tango Steak, and I was not disappointed. The last time I was here, was prior to the most recent renovation. They did a fantastic job modernizing the interior. Additionally this location offers valet, free of charge. I came here with a friend on a Friday night as a walk-in and there was no issue getting seated right away. For drinks we began with their champagne bathtub - it was delicious and this was the most unique drink I think I've ever had, in terms of presentation. For food, we started off the evening with the empanadas, for our appetizer. There's a choice of 4 different types you can choose from, we elected to try the chicken, beef and ham&cheese. But you could do 3 of the same kind, if you wanted to. For our entrees, we both elected to get the Tango Burger. The burger simply melts in your mouth. The patty itself is a combination of brisket and short rib, topped with Muenster cheese. My oh my, this is a must try!! So. First time customer. After a walk thru the lot and towards the front door tripped on curled astroturf; where I then began to question the location of the entrance. Only due to process of elimination, found it to be a specific, unmarked entrance panel camouflaged via placement of an extremely large artificial full height shrub centered in the space you enter. Once we found our way in were quickly greeted, seated, and as we were handed the menus, told us the kitchen was closing and that we had to get our order. AND to be aware that the 'apps' and entrees will be served together. At this moment, I think how lucky am must be to be able to order off the menu so we rushed to get our order in. This ended up not to be the case as the 'apps' arriving as intended, that to be in a window of time prior to the entree. The arrival of Baked Empanadas. First time ever I've had empanadas collapse as they're picked up. We didn't order more given our alert upon arrival. We then waited the interval of time normally allotted for the entrees to arrive. As we waited to staff started to break down the tables around us. I could imagine it must be to enhance the ambience verbally shared as we entered. At this point I can honestly say eating an entree slid off my to do list and when it arrived, was so average in presentation and taste I felt like an idiot as the clues were all there. Also I can't forger the service as they were friendly and very accommodating. They recommended a few drinks to try and if I did not like it, another recommendation was suggested. One of my friends and I got together for brunch. When I arrived I parked in their private lot. I walked into a super cute restaurant. Ella was our server and she was great. Also, Jared helped and he was awesome too. I started with the red sangria and it was very tasty. So I wasn't expecting the food to get here for at least an hour, but amazingly, it arrived 45 minutes after I placed my order online. We ordered Empanadas, Lengua A La Vinagreta (beef tongue), Choripan, and Entrana (skirt steak). Everything was well made and delicious. My favorites were the Choripan and skirt steak. The steak was super tender and juicy, cooked to a perfect medium rare (as I instructed). The Choripan was super flavorful and just a superbly crafted sandwich. I came here once before, for Father's Day 2023, brought my family. We had a great time, ambiance was nice, food was good however it took really long to come out. Service was incredibly slow. I decided to look past it. Fast forward to this week, I came back with my family for my 25th birthday dinner (Aug, 2023). I'm not sure if all the chefs were replaced from the short time I was here initially, but 3 out of 7 dishes were awful!! We ordered two skirt steaks, both incredibly chewy and not cooked the correct temperature. I ordered medium, it came out incredibly rare. I don't mind the blood, but to chew the steak was almost impossible. My brother ordered his steak medium well and he experienced the same thing. We both talked about how bad our teeth hurt from chewing. The salmon (my dad ordered) was mediocre. I also want to add that the food didn't come out at the same time, 2 people were missing their dish for about 10/15 minutes. Not even our server (young guy) is checking on us or seeing why the food isn't hitting the table. A woman who was running the food out checked. Maybe he forgot to put in the order? The music was overwhelmingly LOUD, whether it was for the birthday song or just music in general, it seemed that someone kept trying to adjust it, but couldn't get it right.
