Absolutely loved this place. Used to this sort of Portuguese BBQ (and the huge portions) since I'm from the city and this is definitely on par with what I'm used to having. Only difference is the price; orders are about $4 cheaper in the city. But for the price of gas these days, this place is worth it. Pork ribs are super tender. Beef ribs are less so but both are still tasty. Black beans are delicious & the rice is perfectly cooked. Chimichurri sauce was EVERYTHING; garlicky and perfectly seasoned! Staff is all over the place busy but wonderfully nice. Decor is country chic charming and modern at the same time. And clean, clean, clean! Overall a wonderful experience. Stopped in for lunch as I was passing through town. Before you stop in, make sure to have a quarter for the meter during the day, it doesn't take any other change or electronic pay system, I had to wing it. The interior was well decorated with a bar in the back and tall tables, low tables and booths in the center. Owner was there and her son, very charming people with a passion for food and their business. The food was excellent, had the 1/4 chicken lunch special, the chicken was moist, well prepared and your choice of fries or rice. I chose fries which were thin cut and perfect, though I wish I had chosen the rice, table next to me had a large helping of yellow and it looked fantastic. Also had an empanada which was one of the best ones I've ever had. They have a whole selection of them at $2 a piece, I left with a half dozen. read more

We were really excited to try this place but we were slightly disappointed. We did take out- ordered the chicken and beef rib combo plus 1 chicken and 1 beef empanada. Order was ready on time and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Empanadas were just okay. We didn't care for the flavor but that may just be personal preference. You could tell they were fresh though and I appreciated that. Our combo was more rice and fries than meat. Chicken had great flavor but was a little dry. Beef ribs were really tough and fatty. Rice was really rubbery but flavorful. Fries were fries. We only live a few minutes away so it's not like it sat for long. It was definitely disappointing but we will give it another shot at the restaurant. read more

It pains me to write this review. I am always excited when a new restaurant opens in Newton. The parking lot is packed every night and I am happy they are attracting customers. The remodel is stellar and the new interior is very inviting. Sadly we will not be back. Our first visit was soon after they opened, so the hiccups in service were to be expected. Food took a long time to come out. We went for lunch. We ordered some empanadas as an appetizer and they were excellent. Unfortunately it was downhill after that. My wife ordered the steak sandwich and I ordered a half portion of beef ribs with one side. My wife's steak sandwich had no more then 6oz of meat. One half of the sandwich was pure gristle and could not even be cut with a knife. My ribs were very chewy and the only seasoning I could taste was a boat load of salt. I also wanted rice and beans as a side and was informed that I could only get one side with my order because they were served family style. You couldn't put two half orders together? So much for having rice and beans. We did let the waitress know about the steak after leaving most of it uneaten and they did take it off the bill. About a month later a friend from out of town wanted to try for dinner. Against my better judgment I agreed. Empanadas again were fantastic. I decided to try the pork ribs which looked good in front of another diner. Same as last time tons of salt and dry. My wife had chicken nachos. I can't prove it but the cheese sauce looked like it came out of a jar and the rest of the nachos looked unappealing. If your queso is homemade, you need a different recipe. My friend had a pasta alfredo dish, which I couldn't understand even being on the menu. He described it as bland. We also had issues with the bar service. They had no type of whiskey at all. Tried to order cachasa but they were out of one of the ingredients. Other than the empanadas there is not much to return for. read more

This has become one of my wife's favorite restaurants, we've been here at least 10 times in the last 2 months, the food is always fresh, well prepared, and delicious. The service can be a bit slow at times but it is worth it REALLY! We have had the ribs chicken sausage and pulled pork everything was great. While walking through town and deciding on a spot for lunch, based on the reviews we chose The Sizzle BBQ. You can't tell from the outside, but inside is very cute, lots going on, a lot of attention paid to the look and vibe of the restaurant. This isn't to say the outside is bad, but inside has so much decor you can't see from the outside. I noticed that both sides of the restaurant have really big sliders that open so they can have indoor outdoor seating, a major plus. We were seated quickly with a welcoming smile. With lots of good choices we placed out order. Our server was super friendly, happy and did a nice job throughout. It's a no brainer if you are looking for a nice, cozy atmosphere and comfort food. We just love Sizzle BBQ. Second visit was as good as the first. The Pernil was out of this world as was the Cuban sandwich. Today we tried 6 flavors of empanadas, all very tasty. (black beans with rice were excellent sides). Julian, our server, was very friendly with an easy smile. You could tell he loved the food there himself by the way he described it and he had such patience with all our questions about the menu items. Next time the ribs! We chose seating in their darling alley patio. It was tastefully decorated with plants, string lights, and interesting hanging kitchen items. I went to this restaurant with my wife and in-laws. They were busy when we showed up but there were still several tables available. We were seated in a few minutes and told that they were short handed on the floor because one person called out. We received our drinks about 30 minutes after being seated. About an hour after being seated we received our appetizer. At the 90 minute mark and after seeing tables seated after us getting their food we expressed our concern over the long wait and were told that unfortunately food is just coming out late from the kitchen. Not sure how being short one person on the floor is causing food to come out over an hour late. At the 1 hr 45 min mark we had enough. We conveyed that if we didn't receive our food soon we would be leaving...to which the manager responded by asking if we wanted to take the food to go. This made no sense because if it's not ready to serve, it's obviously not ready to take to go. We waited 5 more minutes before walking out. We told the manager we were leaving and she really didn't seem phased. They seemed much more focused on filling take out orders. They wanted me to pay an up charge for the vegetables instead of simply switching the rice and beans for vegetables. So, I have to pay the price for the combo and an extra price for a few vegetables? You would think Covid would have restaurant owners doing everything possible to retain customers. Note, I did not want anything free. I simply wanted to switch vegetables for carbs. My family and I went to sizzle the other day for lunch and unfortunately the food was terrible. The empanadas were not only burned, but also full of grease. As you ate them, oil was coming out of them. And I don't mean a drip or two. Lots of oils was coming out of them. Then I had a salad with grilled chicken, avocados, dry cranberries and mango. Let me tell you, I took a piece of chicken to my mouth and it felt like the chicken wasn't cook at all. It was so chewy that I didn't even want to bring it to my dog. That's how bad it was. The only good thing in that salad was the avocado. The mango was hard and unsweet. We also ordered a pull pork sandwich. In the past, they used to serve that on a regular bread. This time out of nowhere, they served in a panini (when we didn't know that they could do it, nor we ordered that way). Also the pork was too sweet. Finally, somebody in our family ordered the famous chicken. It was so salted that it was almost impossible to eat. Many years ago, the empanadas used to be very good. Best in the area. But lately, the food has gone down big time. Maybe they changed management or the cook. Either way, we're not going back and you shouldn't waist you money neither. Service was mediocre at best. If I could give them no starts I would. But the site does not allow. Therefore, I will give them 1 star read more

A very nice addition to the dining choices in town. Started with a chicken empanada, very nice pastry shell and a nice amount of chicken. Then half order of chicken rice and beans. The chicken was seasoned nicely, the rice and beans were on the same page, the beans should have been in a bowl, as the liquid was underneath the chicken. Excellent service and food with an eclectic ambiance. We ordered the Sizzle to split among 2 adults and 1 kid. This was a delicious mix of ribs, sausage, skirt steak and chicken. It was served on a hot enamel grill which kept all the meats hot without drying them out. It was more than enough food with leftovers to bring home. We ordered zucchini sticks for one of our sides and they were amazing. My 11 year old son even loved them. They also recently opened a juice bar. We chose one that was a blend of spinach, kale, cucumber, carrots, apples and ginger and it was very tasty. We even had the tiramisu mousse which was also yummy. Back in June we had sizzle deliver about 400$ worth of food to an event we were having, when I checked my bank account they took out an extra 90$ for a gratuity without my knowledge. They refunded it the following week, and I continued to do business there, weekly. Tonight we ordered a sizzle platter and picked it up, 58$ later, we come home to steak missing out of the platter, I called and they offered to make me some steak, but wed have to pick it up, and a free desert for the inconvenience.
