Absolutely loved this place. Used to this sort of Portuguese BBQ (and the huge portions) since I'm from the city and this is definitely on par with what I'm used to having. Only difference is the price; orders are about $4 cheaper in the city. But for the price of gas these days, this place is worth it. Pork ribs are super tender. Beef ribs are less so but both are still tasty. Black beans are delicious & the rice is perfectly cooked. Chimichurri sauce was EVERYTHING; garlicky and perfectly seasoned! Staff is all over the place busy but wonderfully nice. Decor is country chic charming and modern at the same time. And clean, clean, clean! Overall a wonderful experience. This has become one of my wife's favorite restaurants, we've been here at least 10 times in the last 2 months, the food is always fresh, well prepared, and delicious. The service can be a bit slow at times but it is worth it REALLY! We have had the ribs chicken sausage and pulled pork everything was great. My son came in from the city and we took him here, and after quite a wait, he said I don't understand why you come here , when he took his first bit of his meal he said "Oh I see why you come here, it's sensational " This is the Hackettstown location. read more

Before you stop in, make sure to have a quarter for the meter during the day, it doesn't take any other change or electronic pay system, I had to wing it. The interior was well decorated with a bar in the back and tall tables, low tables and booths in the center. Owner was there and her son, very charming people with a passion for food and their business. The food was excellent, had the 1/4 chicken lunch special, the chicken was moist, well prepared and your choice of fries or rice. I chose fries which were thin cut and perfect, though I wish I had chosen the rice, table next to me had a large helping of yellow and it looked fantastic. We were really excited to try this place but we were slightly disappointed. We did take out- ordered the chicken and beef rib combo plus 1 chicken and 1 beef empanada. Order was ready on time and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Empanadas were just okay. We didn't care for the flavor but that may just be personal preference. You could tell they were fresh though and I appreciated that. Our combo was more rice and fries than meat. Chicken had great flavor but was a little dry. Beef ribs were really tough and fatty. Rice was really rubbery but flavorful. Fries were fries. We only live a few minutes away so it's not like it sat for long. I went to this restaurant with my wife and in-laws. They were busy when we showed up but there were still several tables available. We were seated in a few minutes and told that they were short handed on the floor because one person called out. We received our drinks about 30 minutes after being seated. About an hour after being seated we received our appetizer. At the 90 minute mark and after seeing tables seated after us getting their food we expressed our concern over the long wait and were told that unfortunately food is just coming out late from the kitchen. Not sure how being short one person on the floor is causing food to come out over an hour late. At the 1 hr 45 min mark we had enough. We conveyed that if we didn't receive our food soon we would be leaving...to which the manager responded by asking if we wanted to take the food to go. This made no sense because if it's not ready to serve, it's obviously not ready to take to go. We waited 5 more minutes before walking out. We told the manager we were leaving and she really didn't seem phased. They seemed much more focused on filling take out orders. So after almost a two hour waste we had to find another place to have dinner. read more

My family and I went to sizzle the other day for lunch and unfortunately the food was terrible. The empanadas were not only burned, but also full of grease. As you ate them, oil was coming out of them. And I don't mean a drip or two. Lots of oils was coming out of them. Then I had a salad with grilled chicken, avocados, dry cranberries and mango. Let me tell you, I took a piece of chicken to my mouth and it felt like the chicken wasn't cook at all. It was so chewy that I didn't even want to bring it to my dog. That's how bad it was. The only good thing in that salad was the avocado. The mango was hard and unsweet. We also ordered a pull pork sandwich. In the past, they used to serve that on a regular bread. This time out of nowhere, they served in a panini (when we didn't know that they could do it, nor we ordered that way). Also the pork was too sweet. Finally, somebody in our family ordered the famous chicken. It was so salted that it was almost impossible to eat. Many years ago, the empanadas used to be very good. Best in the area. But lately, the food has gone down big time. Maybe they changed management or the cook. Either way, we're not going back and you shouldn't waist you money neither. Service was mediocre at best. We just love Sizzle BBQ. Second visit was as good as the first. The Pernil was out of this world as was the Cuban sandwich. Today we tried 6 flavors of empanadas, all very tasty. (black beans with rice were excellent sides). Julian, our server, was very friendly with an easy smile. You could tell he loved the food there himself by the way he described it and he had such patience with all our questions about the menu items. Next time the ribs! We chose seating in their darling alley patio. It was tastefully decorated with plants, string lights, and interesting hanging kitchen items. You can't tell from the outside, but inside is very cute, lots going on, a lot of attention paid to the look and vibe of the restaurant. This isn't to say the outside is bad, but inside has so much decor you can't see from the outside. I noticed that both sides of the restaurant have really big sliders that open so they can have indoor outdoor seating, a major plus. We were seated quickly with a welcoming smile. With lots of good choices we placed out order. Our server was super friendly, happy and did a nice job throughout. It's a no brainer if you are looking for a nice, cozy atmosphere and comfort food. Excellent service and food with an eclectic ambiance. We ordered the Sizzle to split among 2 adults and 1 kid. This was a delicious mix of ribs, sausage, skirt steak and chicken. It was served on a hot enamel grill which kept all the meats hot without drying them out. It was more than enough food with leftovers to bring home. We ordered zucchini sticks for one of our sides and they were amazing. My 11 year old son even loved them. They also recently opened a juice bar. We chose one that was a blend of spinach, kale, cucumber, carrots, apples and ginger and it was very tasty. We even had the tiramisu mousse which was also yummy. Everything was amazing! The empanadas were full of flavor, some of the best we have ever had! The ribs were tender and didn't need any sauce. Our server was very nice and personable. I loved the inside it was homey and inviting. There is seating outside as well as inside.
