Had a wonderful dinner with 7 other family members on a busy Saturday night. This place is a hidden gem in Hackettstown. We were able to make a reservation, and the restaurant was kind enough to extend our reservation when we were delayed -- especially on one of their busiest nights of the week. Maria was exceptionally nice and helpful in making reservations. Food was delicious and enjoyable throughout all the courses. The Picanha and Beef Short Ribs were my favorites of the Rodizio. My parents split a steak entree and the salmon - the restaurant was kind enough to split both entrees on two plates for each of them. Both servings were generous. Had an Old Fashioned and a Caipirinha - both were excellent. They also have an extensive wine and whiskey menu. Service was pretty good. I would say the only hiccup was the food took forever to come, which seems strange for Rodizio. But I attribute the delay to the tardiness of two folks in our party, and a little inexperience of our server. But aside from that, he did a good job. We got to meet the manager Tatiana, who was fabulous - you can tell she cares about her craft, and the owner Joe, who was exceptionally kind and friendly. My niece and his son apparently went to the same school, so it was truly nice to make the acquaintance. I love to support small business, and it doesn't get better than this. I had the short ribs of beef. Others in my party had rodizio and one had seafood paella. My dish was tender, but very salty. I've heard that's common with Brazilian cuisine, but it was too salty for me. The paella was surprisingly small portion-wise compared to the way most restaurants serve it. And, the rodizio was a slow journey....the meat came out so slowly that it wasn't enjoyable. read more

EXCELLENT rodizio! Not a HUGE variety of meats but enough that I got stuffed in the first round. AND, their rodizio comes with a bounty of delicious accompaniments that you don't NEED a huge variety of meats. All the meats has great flavor and were perfectly cooked. My favorite was the skirt steak. Thinly sliced but still juicy, garlicky, and oh, so good! A little put off that we couldn't take our accompaniments home as we barely touched them. I hate to think they just trashed it. We wanted to have space in our bellies for the meats and not fill up on the house made potato chips even though that's one of my faves. The tiramisu cake was on dry side. Could've used more coffee soaking and more mascarpone. Overall, a nice experience, clean place with modern fixtures, and the service was wonderful. read more

Food in this place is horrible, and it's not authentic Brazilian. They serve fried Spanish chips, and bread (which was stale) that comes with a plate of olives and vegetables in olive oil that is more characteristic of Portugal or Spain, and it's not something served in a Brazilian Churrascaria. The typical Brazilian Rodízio Steakhouse will welcome the guest with courtesy fresh cheese bread or regular Brazilian French-styled roll bread and butter, not olives and vegetables in olive oil, dry stale bread, and no butter. We ordered Brazilian cheese bread. They came late (we had to ask for the appetizer) so service was not good. Paid $13 for a mere eight (8) very small cheese bread. Simply ridiculous and overpriced. The cheese bread was really horrible. My companion had the sirloin and shrimp dish. The steak sirloin was very chewy and the shrimp texture was like rubber. Absolutely overcooked. For a plate costing almost $40 it was sautéed for too long and/or the meat served as a "sirloin" was not high quality beef. Two shrimps came. This was my companion's dish who was also having a hard time with the meat because amongst the sirloin and the shrimp she found another kind of meat which we didn't know whether it was pork or other kind of meat. Nobody knew what that meat was and we asked. I had the picanha dish, which came with white rice, black beans, sautéed collard greens with garlic, and a mix of onions, tomatoes, and vinegar. The picanha was borderline mediocre, but acceptable. Not very good picanha by any stretch of imagination, but the lesser mediocre dish this place had to offer. Farofa with bacon, onion, and garlic is a delicious treat that comes with the rice and beans in normal Brazilian Churrascaria. Not this one. The dish was incomplete and whoever knows Brazilian churrasco will know exactly what this means. The owner of this restaurant is not Brazilian but Portuguese, though the place advertises as a Brazilian steakhouse and doesn't really serve authentic Brazilian food. This detail would not matter, if this restaurant served great food. However, it doesn't, and the premise that this place is a Brazilian Churrascaria is false. Even the name of the restaurant is a joke: the word "Paladar" means taste in Brazilian Portuguese. Their food is overall not tasty and, in fact, the food is bad. Service in this place is awful. Appetizer came late, and it was not friendly or courteous. We complained about the chewy sirloin to the waitress who apologized, but did nothing else. She was not a good server because she was too entangled with a larger table and ignored my table (who had only two persons) thinking obviously only about the larger tip. The restaurant was also understaffed and the bus boys knew very little and did even less, so this semi-rude waitress was running around like a headless chicken and simply didn't care about our table. Management in this place doesn't exist. Ambiance is dark and at dinner it seems to be too formal lit with candles. Not the typical vibrant and colorful ambiance that an authentic Brazilian Steakhouse normally should have and in most cases go for. Ambiance is more like a Portuguese or Spanish tavern than a Brazilian Churrascaria. Rodízio of meats is almost $56 per person, and this place does not allow sharing. It is highly overpriced considering that the meat is subpar. I invite readers to compare with other Brazilian Steakhouses (except Fogo de Chão, which is also super expensive, but much better and truly Brazilian.) Specifically in areas where there is competition (such in Newark, NJ), Brazilian rodízio places would be around no more than $38 per person or $40 tops with very good quality meats and variety. The most Brazilian thing in this venue is a mosaic in the reception depicting the Christ Redeemer statue, and vicinities of the most famous city in Brazil: Rio. Bit of context: I am Brazilian from Rio, born and raised there, and I have been eating Brazilian food all my life. I know Brazilian Churrascaria (s). This place is not one of them. I observed that most of the clientele in this place is American (mid to high class) and have absolutely no clue about what exactly they are eating or paying for, flushing money down the toilet and being ripped off. Brazilians won't eat there twice. Summary of the review: 1. Food not authentic per se 2. Food overpriced and subpar 3. Service mediocre, understaffed, not friendly 4. Came here with a group of friends and truly almost left after an hour of being seated and no service at all. Everyone got rodizio except for me since I don't eat much red meat. The quality and quantity of rodizio made up for the wait time but really just barely. It was about an hour before my food came out and even then it took a while for the meat to come out. It was almost ridiculous and we contemplated leaving quite a few times. The problem is that the waiters didn't even acknowledge us as we were staring just waiting for someone to come talk to us. They had signs all over the restaurant saying they were short staffed but honestly they weren't that busy. Everyone eventually left full, the meat was a good portion for the price. My chicken dish was just alright, tasted very salty. Just be prepared for a wait if you come dine here, other than that the place itself is very nice and has a huge parking lot. read more

This is by far the best restaurant in the area. We've been coming here for years and we love it. It might be a little bit expensive but it's well worth it. It's run by a beautiful family and it's evident in the quality of the food. Also, when it comes to wine, don't be shy to ask the owner to pick a bottle for you. Seating: We had reservation for 8 adults. They gave us a table that was really awkward, tight and hardly any room. We had a table that was length wise against a wine divider. Those that sat on the backside were trapped between the wine rack and not being able to get out without everyone on that side getting up from their seats. Those at the end were right next to the bar which got crowded. Food: One of us order the braised short rib and when it came out it was extremely salty. Like the bottom end of the night leftover salty. We had this returned and replaced it with a T-bone steak. When it came out there was no salt on it and more blue (rare) and a ton of fat to the steak. 4 of us ordered the rodizio and the gauchos were coming out with the meat but skipping us instead going into the main dining area. When they came back to us, we were getting the uncooked blue part of the meats. In between serving the 4 of us constantly had to wait. The better cuts of meat were non-existent. No rib-eye and the filet wrapped with bacon came only once. Chicken hearts came only once. Overall we left not really satisfied with the servings. Never been to rodizio before. Had high expectations. Atmosphere was lovely with the musconetcong River out the window. At 6to 8 pm we were the only diners on a Wednesday night. Felt awkward. Both of us ordered the series of meat, and it was ok. The majority of meats were dry and overcooked. Having had stomach surgery there was no accommodation for sharing or small plates. I had the filet mignon wrapped in bacon. Amazing. The side dishes were ok. Appetizers we had were calamari which were small but great tasting. My wife had the grilled octopus. She liked it very much. Tried to have dinner for the first time on Friday, 1/28. Upon entering there is a sign saying to be patient, they are short-staffed. We walked to the bar to enjoy a drink. Saw 5 servers standing around, not doing much & seemed to be trying to avoid people even though a woman at a table was trying to flag someone down. They were NOT busy at all. No one acknowledged us. We sat at the bar for 10 minutes with no one saying anything to us or anyone acting as a bartender but saw the servers looking at us. After 10 minutes I was done, screw this place. Every year me and my fiancé look forward to going to this restaurant to get the all you can eat rodizio. However after this experience we are never going back. We were waiting to get another slice of the signature steak when the waiter came up to ask if we were finished. We said we wanted another slice of the steak and then we would close out. He came back to tell us that we were "closed out for the night" and couldn't get anymore rodizio unless we wanted to pay for another round ($56 each for one slice of steak). If it isn't actually all you can eat then don't market it as that. We will never be going back and warn anyone if you are getting the rodizio know it isn't actually all you can eat like they say it is. read more

Terrible terrible service. We came and sat down, ordered drinks and appetizer and then when it came to ordering the main course we wanted seafood and here we go, now seafood at all only Rodizio!!!! And then we waited an hour for it to come out while 10 people who came much later were served already. When I questioned the waiter he started having an attitude so my friend immediately said we are leaving. Some manager came over to say the food is coming out but we were so mad already we left. Nobody apologized for not having half of the dishes in the menu or the fact that we waited for so long. Nobody offered a discount. Plain attitude. Worst service I have ever had anywhere. We were looking for a place to take the family for my daughter's birthday, so we decided possibly here, but let's try it out first. We got to this place, my husband was really hungry, me less. So he got the all-you-can-eat and I got soup and steak for main course. Servers walked around handing out pieces of meat to everyone who ordered the all-you-can-eat, but my husband got nothing. I got my soup and he still got nothing. We asked our server who told us he could start getting food when I got my main course. I told them he was hungry and wanted to eat now. She refused and walked away. We asked several others, and at some point the owner came out, but they still refused to feed him. Even when my soup was done, they still made him wait until my main course was cooked. So when we are done, I wrote on the receipt that it was terrible service and we would not be back. We still left a tip, albeit somewhat less than our usual 20%. As we were walking to our car the owner came out of the restaurant and started yelling at us at the top of her voice, how she didn't want us to ever come back and how dare we. I have never experienced anyone yelling at their customers before because of a complaint written on the receipt. Definitely worst customer service ever. read more

Little did I know an impromptu stop at a Brazilian Steakhouse would lead me to find one of the best spots this side of NYC. Husband and wife owners work hard to provide a delightful experience for a first timer to someone who had Brazilian Steakhouse experience. Went here for a Valentines Day with the wife and I. The place is nice inside with a great view of the river. The staff had it together and the service was excellent. We both had the Rodizio. All the meat was seasoned perfectly. We especially liked the chicken and Brazilian steak. The side dishes were good too. Good selection of drinks. On my first visit to Churrascaria Paladar, the Rodizio was fabulous, but the service was TERRIBLE. They leave you sitting there for 1/2 hour before they even take your drink order. Then it's just long periods of waiting. Waiting for the side dishes, waiting for the drinks you ordered, waiting for the meat to come out, waiting between the different meats. Waiting to order dessert, waiting for dessert to be served. The second time the service was also TERRIBLE. And the Rodizio was not so good either. The meat was extremely salty, and the variety of meats was much less. We never got any lamb. They just kept bringing us dry chicken. The skirt steak and the ribs were all gristle. The filet pieces were tiny and there wasn't enough there to serve our entire party of 8. The waiter would serve 4 of us and then leave, promising to come right back, but when he returned from the kitchen he began serving other tables and ignored us completely. We were all sore from sitting on the hard wooden chairs for so long. It's obvious that the owners don't read these reviews because everyone seems to have the same complaint, but nothing is done to make it better. That's too bad because these are all complaints which could be corrected if anyone cared. I don't think I will be giving them another try. read more

My three evaluation criteria, food, service and decore , are based upon my experience of living in Brazil over eight years: * food... quality and verity ;poor, spare ribs , sausage(chicken only), picanha(sub par quality)... *service...inattentive , Long waiting periods between servings, the variety of meats on the rodízio menu not served , the skirt steak and chicken legs and hearts not served ; there is a lack of the "Brazilian warmth and cordiality, as none of the waiting staff are Brazilian nor do they speak Portuguese , most indifferent! *decore.. setting and decore ... above average.. but the chairs should be cushioned, as the long waits are hard on the tush! *as I rarely mention price , I shall this time..Paladar appears to have modeled their business plan after the airlines... what should be included is an extra and are charged. Drinks are priced way out of line. Bottom line .. the cost to benefit of this restaurant is not worth the effort. Overall the food was pretty good! great sangria, but a large staff stands by and STARES AT YOU while you EAT. Uncomfortable! BREAD WAS stale tasting, maybe they meant to warm it up? As we parked we saw a girl go in the back of her truck and carry in a big OPEN bucket of something into the backdoor. It freaked me out. What was it? Clean neat tables. Chicken wrapped in bacon and pork tenderloin was horribly dry. Signature steak was RAWR and I'm a fan of medium rare! This was inedible. Beef short rib was gristle filled. Baby back rib was ok, not a lot of flavor. Chicken drumstick was good. So far only one steak item, which is disappointing. We will not be back! read more

Went here for my wife's birthday and was VERY disappointed with the rodizio. It was very salty to the point you couldn't enjoy it all. After we paid our check I spoke with the manager and the owner of the place who were both very unprofessional and rude!!! I offered some feed back and told them how salty the food was and I was wrong and didn't know good food and it's not possible. I think you might want to listen to you're customers first instead of getting so defensive and dismissive. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone read more

We have been to Brazilian type restaurants before. They did not explain how to order our food and it took us asking for our food after ordering the serve your table meat an hour before being served, that only happened when we called it to someone's attention. We have spent $75 per meal in NYC and had great food/ service. We spent $57 per person and had bad food/worse service. Never again! read more
