Sitting Duck Elk Brat
Abby A.

Parking for The Sitting Duck is on a very busy road-you have to literally run across the road in order to not get hit-as there are only a couple of spots in front, and no parking lot. The entrance is though the bar, and we were not greeted or told where to sit. After wandering to the back of the bar, we found the open air seating right on the water- fabulous views and nice casual dining area. But-you order your food via the QR code at your table. This is becoming pretty common now, so no problem. We placed our order but there were no drink options, not even for a soda. So we went back into the bar to ask the bartender and found out all drinks, even soda, have to be ordered and paid for at the bar, then you take them back to your table. After almost an hour, we flagged own a server to ask how we knew our order was even placed as you do not get a confirmation when using the QR site. We were told to ask someone in the kitchen (???!!!), so we wandered to the kitchen, poked our head through the door, and asked a kitchen staff to check to make sure our order had actually gone through. It had, they were just slow. Back to our table we went. Well the food took so long to arrive at or table that our drinks were long gone. The food finally arrived, and it was disappointing. Our app of Huckleberry Chicken Wings were very good, but my "Grilled Chicken/Avocado Salad" was super small ($17.95) and consisted of cold chicken and salad greens from a bag-the only thing good was the avocado. We also ordered the "Elk Brat", which had inedible dry/hard bread and a tasteless brat. While visiting the lake, this was a dog friendly patio option and we decided to give it a try. With a pet, you head through the front door to the back deck to grab a table and can order food from your table QR code. The huckleberry wings were tastier than I would have expected (not a big sweets fan)! I'd have again, for sure. Sadly, the visibility was low due to air quality/fire smoke...but still absolutely stare worthy for a Colorado girl who misses water! I wish you could have ordered drinks like food. Getting up and dragging the road show up/down the stairs while waiting for food seemed daunting for a single human. As per another review, confirming stairs are pretty much required if mobility is an issue.

The food is great. Ordering is a little unconventional but definitely worth the stop! Nice to sit along the lake in the shade and enjoy the fresh air and the food. Kids played in the water while we waited for our food.

Enjoyed lunch at The Sitting Duck. Grilled teriyaki chicken sandwich with fries and my friend had chicken tenders with fries. Both were great! Sat outside, scanned QR code at table to order food. Had to go in to get drinks. Not a big deal.

Very cool mountain vibe! The pretzels were good, loved the huckleberry cider, and the burger was great!

The view from this restaurant is UNREAL! There are spots up on the balcony and below for amazing views of Flathead. The works Bloody Mary was great; filling and good food and tasty bloody!

Besides the lake, the Bloody Mary is probably the only thing worth coming for. Very low quality all basic frozen foods.

Meh. The food was okay.. the drinks were weak. You gotta basically serve yourself. The games are a nice touch and they have rewards if you enter your email. So not all bad. The quack quack here is good. But not sure if it has alcohol

Awesome awesome patio by the lake, really can't beat the environment. The Bloody Mary was also really good and we loved all the food that came on it! The duck Norris burger was okay, I like the concept with the jalapeño popper but the burger itself was really heavy. The tater tots were good! Definitely recommend checking this spot out for a drink at least if in the area. @main_guy_eats

Food was not great, fries were old and hard. We had fish tacos, not very good. Steak tacos were good. Burger was good.

So glad we did. First of all, the view. The view off the deck of Flathead Lake was beautiful, and it was really cool watching the boats dock and come grab a bite to eat. The service was ok. I think they were understaffed. But no major issues overall. She was really nice. We all got settled in, got our drinks, ordered some apps. I ordered the Blue Corn Chips and Salsa (Our House-Made Roasted Garlic-Tomatillo Salsa and Blue Corn Tortilla Chips). They were fine. Pick another app, if you're trying to decided between a few. For my main, I had the Bison Cowboy Burger (Local Bison Patty, Cheddar, BBQ Sauce & Bacon). All over the part of Montana we were in, bison burgers were everywhere. And thank goodness, because they are delicious. A nice sized patty, smothered in cheese, some fresh veg, and some of the best sweet potato fries I've had at a restaurant in a while. So good. I also got to try the Candied Bacon Bleu Burger (We Turned Bacon into Candy and add Bleu Cheese for one Amazing Burger Combo). Even if the bacon was candied, there was so little of it, you couldn't even tell. But the rest of the burger was aces. A great, tangy bleu sauce on top of a well charred burger patty. Another great burger. Overall, I was very happy with this place. Great location, great food, nice staff, and a view that I will never forget.

The service was excellent, Niko was our server. I enjoyed the caesar salad. Several people ordered the short rib and really liked it. The presentation of the food was good. The filet was really good. I really liked the 1/2 potatoes, it was really yummy. The portion size was good and the prices were as expected. Since we were in a side room, it was a bit quieter and had soft music playing.

She was on top of the many cocktails that were being ordered and kept up the water for us non-drinkers, she was the best. Our food, from appetizers to the main courses, were amazing. The Cioppino was awesome and I would definitely like to try it again since I didn't get to eat it. The reason I am giving it 3 stars is, the young girl they had helping take dishes and help in other areas looked like she didn't want to be there. I didn't see her smile once even though I made eye contact several times and smiled at her. As our dinner was wrapping up, I was in the middle of a conversation, I looked up to see her walking away with my full bowl of Cioppino (I had eaten too many appetizers). I had literally eaten 3 clams and one slice of the bread. I hadn't touched my shrimp or lobster. When Terri walked in as the girl was leaving, I asked her if she was boxing up my dinner for me. Terri immediately went to check. She came back stating that my meal had been thrown out and that she would take $20 off my meal. I didn't want to cause a scene during the festivities so I accepted her offer (it wasn't her fault.) I am disappointed that I still had to pay $25 for a meal that I didn't get to enjoy. I have never had someone come take my plate without asking if I was finished, let alone without asking if I wanted to take it home. We spent over $2,500 for dinner and I don't think we will be back for another party. I would definitely recommend this place, just make sure to hold on to your plate if you want to take some home with you or if you are not finished.

A Bar Montana - Such a cool bar!

My friends that we were staying with were locals, and they recommended A Bar, so we knew we had to try it out. It was a Friday or a Saturday night, and we arrived after nightfall, so we were worried there wouldn't be anywhere to sit, but we miraculously found a nice six top with a great view of the karaoke that was about to start. Looking around, the ambiance was really cool. It had a heavy dive bar vibe. I could perfectly picture Garth Brooks singing in the corner with a rowdy crowd packing the place. A lot of the tables were talking or shouting friendily to one another, showing me that there were a lot of locals and/or regulars there. But also, the place sold merch, as if it were a tourist attraction. A very interesting blend. Service was great. He was just a cool dude that efficiently brought to us everything we ordered. Beer showed up in a hurry, the food came out timely and nice and hot. Very nice fella. As for the food, it was surprisingly very good. Like, the best food we ate the entire time we were in Montana. We opened up with the A Bar Nachos (Corn tortilla chips smothered with melted cheddar, refried beans, taco meat, diced tomatoes, olives, jalapeno, and green onions. Served with salsa and sour cream. Wow! These were good nachos. First of all, they were huge. You can't have small plate of nachos, it's not a good look. Second of all, they were layered beautifully. Not all the toppings were topped on top, they were layered in between layers of chips, leaving no boring bites even towards the end. Third of all, they added beans. Not everyone does that, but everyone should, because it spreads well and they're a great meat substitute. Just amazing nachos. For my main meal of the night, I ordered the Cowboy Burger (1/3 pound Angus Patty, lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheddar, onion rings, and barbecue sauce on a grilled Brioche bun). Also awesome. A huge patty, cooked perfectly, sitting on a bun that was hearty enough to support it, stacked high with crispy onion rings and skewered with a giant steak knife to really set the presentation off right. A little fresh veg, a good amount of sauce, and a literal mountain of tater tots really made this a super satisfying meal. I also got to try the Shrimp Basket (Crispy Breaded shrimp, deep fried and served with French fries, cocktail sauce and lemon). These were nice. Nice, crispy shrimp, crispy tots, nothing was too greasy. A nice way to end the meal. Or so I thought that was the end. At the last second, I saw on their specials board that they had a huckleberry cheesecake. We were on the way out already, so I ordered it to go, and when I got it home, I naturally paired it with some Tillamook huckleberry ice cream and had one of the best nights of my life.

Pros: Ambiance is killer. Both a dive bar full of locals…read moreand a tourist attraction that sells merch, all at the same time. Service was very country and friendly. We had drinks flowing all evening long. Good was ridiculous. Probably the best food we had during all of our time in Montana. Cons: Not a con in the world. Tips: They are cash only, so bring cash. If you're interested in nachos, get the nacho app. It is very delicious. If they have a special huckleberry dessert, definitely get it.
