We came to A Bar one night after a very very long day at the beautiful Glacier National Park. We were sweaty and tired and needed some salty, greasy bar food with some booze. My friends that we were staying with were locals, and they recommended A Bar, so we knew we had to try it out. It was a Friday or a Saturday night, and we arrived after nightfall, so we were worried there wouldn't be anywhere to sit, but we miraculously found a nice six top with a great view of the karaoke that was about to start. Looking around, the ambiance was really cool. It had a heavy dive bar vibe. I could perfectly picture Garth Brooks singing in the corner with a rowdy crowd packing the place. A lot of the tables were talking or shouting friendily to one another, showing me that there were a lot of locals and/or regulars there. But also, the place sold merch, as if it were a tourist attraction. A very interesting blend. Service was great. He was just a cool dude that efficiently brought to us everything we ordered. Beer showed up in a hurry, the food came out timely and nice and hot. Very nice fella. As for the food, it was surprisingly very good. Like, the best food we ate the entire time we were in Montana. We opened up with the A Bar Nachos (Corn tortilla chips smothered with melted cheddar, refried beans, taco meat, diced tomatoes, olives, jalapeno, and green onions. Served with salsa and sour cream. Wow! These were good nachos. First of all, they were huge. You can't have small plate of nachos, it's not a good look. Second of all, they were layered beautifully. Not all the toppings were topped on top, they were layered in between layers of chips, leaving no boring bites even towards the end. Third of all, they added beans. Not everyone does that, but everyone should, because it spreads well and they're a great meat substitute. Just amazing nachos. For my main meal of the night, I ordered the Cowboy Burger (1/3 pound Angus Patty, lettuce, tomato, bacon, cheddar, onion rings, and barbecue sauce on a grilled Brioche bun). Also awesome. A huge patty, cooked perfectly, sitting on a bun that was hearty enough to support it, stacked high with crispy onion rings and skewered with a giant steak knife to really set the presentation off right. A little fresh veg, a good amount of sauce, and a literal mountain of tater tots really made this a super satisfying meal. I also got to try the Shrimp Basket (Crispy Breaded shrimp, deep fried and served with French fries, cocktail sauce and lemon). These were nice. Nice, crispy shrimp, crispy tots, nothing was too greasy. A nice way to end the meal. Or so I thought that was the end. At the last second, I saw on their specials board that they had a huckleberry cheesecake. We were on the way out already, so I ordered it to go, and when I got it home, I naturally paired it with some Tillamook huckleberry ice cream and had one of the best nights of my life. read more

Pros: Ambiance is killer. Both a dive bar full of locals and a tourist attraction that sells merch, all at the same time. Service was very country and friendly. We had drinks flowing all evening long. Good was ridiculous. Probably the best food we had during all of our time in Montana. Cons: Not a con in the world. Tips: They are cash only, so bring cash. If you're interested in nachos, get the nacho app. It is very delicious. If they have a special huckleberry dessert, definitely get it. read more

We attended a after party on a early Sunday evening. Our group of 6 doubled and soon tripled in size to just over 22 people. WTFox ? So much for just meeting a few people for dinner. The staff, outstanding no super outstanding. I'll give the staff five for putting up with all the old farts and their demands. For me everything was just right. A cold beer, juciey buger plus fries and I was good to go. Luckily the groom's farther step up and picked up the ck, otherwise it would have been pure chaos. 18 to 20 different cks is crazy. my take on A Bar. The outside backyard area is awesome the fire pits Adirondack chairs and 6 top tables with umbrellas was perfect. The location in the valley with the backdrop of the mountains is truly breathtaking. A Bar is our "go to" for good food and great service. They are often very busy but handle it like pros. Nearly every item I have tried has been fantastic. The only downside is that if you want the special of the night, you better get there early because I've seen them run out by 5:45 for their dinner special. They have regular entertainment, typically 1-2 nights per week. Inside can be cramped but when the weather turns nice they have an awesome outside stage and more seating options. read more

There is nothing about A Bar Montana that seems fake or phony-its just a local country hide out that serves pretty good food, beer on tap in frosted glasses, and live music in the open air back yard with an amazing view. One warning- they only take cash! But they also have an ATM to help you out. We really enjoyed the laid back feel, tried the fried pickles and mushrooms (yum!), and told old stories with old friends- the kind of thing you do at "A Bar" like this. read more

This is a must stop in the Bigfork MT area. A really neat bar with good food. The nachos were yummy! A big portion of mini corn dogs. Our server was super nice and fun. The prices are reasonable. If it wasn't so cold, we would have sat in the backyard area of the bar. Neat sitting area with great views. I bet this place is busy in the summer months! read more

What I witness tonight as a local.. when I say local I'm say 55 yrs and my wife 65 yrs old and a half mile up the road. Two employees one being an owner could not figure out our tab. Had two of our party leave early due to a vehicle emergency with a son on snowy roads. I was brought a bill for $86.. threw $100 and said keep the change. We had an order of fries, cheese sticks a Swan Dip sandwich and an order to go of their Jambalaya ,4 glasses of wine and 3 mixed drinks and an iced tea. The 4 glasses of wine not on the bill. All good. 15 min later get another bill for $86 dollars and I said for 4 glasses of wine? It took the owner and an employee 15-20 minutes to figure shit out while I'm saying we owe for 4 glasses of wine. In the mean time my wife was spending $200 in the casino.. nothing comped just "I'm sorry". Sad as hell.. how hard can it be? Going to have a hard time going back and we are there 1-2 days a week year round.. very sad that this is what they bring to locals. read more

This is one of those hidden local spots where the food is incredible. The service is always kind, professional, and efficient. I'm not sure there's much of an ambience other than it's an outdoor family venue. If you pull up and see a bunch of motorbikes it's not a biker joint. It really is a local family spot. I'll give it 4.5 out of five. For drinks are good and the food is good. Quite often they'll have outdoor live music that also sets this place apart when I'm in town, I go here weekly. read more

A-bar is a local spot in Bigfork, MT. It is one of the few restaurants in town that stays open throughout the winter due to how many recommend it. I've got to say, coming in town for a wedding was a perfect excuse to come on over and visit this place for myself. Historically this place has caught fire at least 3 times in the past but with the current owners in place I would fare to say that there won't be a fourth. The one manager whose name I did not catch (blonde, short & petit) was nothing short of spectacular during a busy rush. She was quick, efficient, and kind while serving drinks to a full bar and packed restaurant. There was one brunette bartender with piercings that was not very friendly but the manager more than made up for her lack of hospitality. The drinks are at very fair prices and the food is bomb! I highly recommend either the Cowboy burger or the Swan Dip. The roast beef served in that dish with the bread is a killer combination. Outside there are spots for a fire and outdoor games families can play. There was even a live band on Friday too. Great job A-bar! read more

These guys serve amazing burgers and fries and onion rings! They are my favorite place on this side of the lake to stop for a bite. The only reasons they aren't 5 star is they are cash only.... Which can be a pain, and the bathrooms and outside areas aren't accessible... there are stairs involved. read more

We had a great dinner of fish and chips. Hand battered Cod with Panko flour. It came with fries large fresh cut and coleslaw. Portions were generous and priced fair. I would recommend this restaurant and we will be back to try some of there other menu items. They didn't take atm cards but a check was okay. Service was quick and they helped with all of our needs. They need a "Restaurant " sign out front so you know it's not just a bar. It looks like they may have bands as it has a stage in the back , do offer entertainment nights though. read more

First visit to A Bar Montana and we sure weren't disappointed. This bar just opened 4th of July weekend and it's certainly busy. The owners, Greg and Amber, are super friendly and welcoming. They go out of their way to make you feel part of the family. Service is great. They are very attentive. Full bar with a selection of draft beers including our favorite IPA!! This is the neighborhood bar where friends gather. If you want to experience real Montana hospitality, this is the place. We both had burgers, 1/3 pound angus beef with a brioche bun and the best French fries and onion rings ever!! Everything fresh and delicious. Right now they take cash only but I'm sure that will change. They have an ATM on site. Also there's a pool table in the back and a few video poker machines. Completely delightful experience. We ordered takeout fish and chips and they said 30 min. Arrived on time but food had been sitting on the counter awhile. So much so, our fries were soggy and our fish was lukewarm. Waitress had a nasty attitude and was extremely rude. I paid but she walked away so fast I couldn't ask for change. I needed change for a tip. I tried to get her attention again and when she looked at me several times, even when I waved at her, she ignored me. Finally a different waitress with the same attitude came over. When I asked for change to leave a tip, her attitude got slightly better. We will NEVER spend another dime in this place. If I could give negative stars, I would. Also... the food was horrible!!! Well it was all fun and food was good until the waitress forgot two of our groups food orders. Instead of expediting those two orders they pushed ours to the back of the list. Then after waiting for another hour the same waitress that missed the order, came out with two boxed up meals as we requested. When she came back with those meals she slammed them down and placed her hands on top of the food smashing both of the buns from the meals. She then told us "I hope you have the day you deserve" which is pretty wild as she is the reason the order was wrong. read more
