1 of the best 10 bars in the USA is the Garden Bar. It's the main place to be in Bigfork for sure. The night club of town this is. The smiling staff have an excellent attitude and disposition. We are from out of state visiting. Our first impression was it is definitely a dive bar. Hubby got a local IPA ($6) and I got a margarita on the rocks ($7). Hubby said the beer was delicious and my margarita was meh. It tasted watered down. We didn't know it was cash only so we didn't get any food. There is an ATM on site. They had an outdoor patio out back with live music. Bartender wasn't friendly. We wouldn't go back. Looks like a lot of other great places on the street to go to, so we will do that next time. read more

The bar is fun. However Dan is a cranky bartender who doesn't want to be bothered unless your a regular. It's a shame. I own a home there but don't go in all the time and when I do he acts like he is put out. So I take my business to the Tall Pines where at least they act like they want you. On Thursday night and for only $19 you can get a 6 oz steak made to order, deliciously seasoned steak fries (hot, crispy on the outside & tender on the inside) and fresh salad. We went for dinner before the play, on Thursday July 28, this was the last play we were seeing for the season. Unfortunately there are very few places in Big Fork to eat, we will never go back to this bar. By the way, we're local, I'm sure the guy in the kitchen assumed we were tourists. I get it, we're from Whitefish and we deal with tourists all year but there is no reason to be rude just for the sake of being rude. I ordered a chicken salad and my husband and uncle ordered the steak special. When we got our food they had real silverware, I on the other hand was given a plastic fork. When I asked for a real fork, the guy was not happy about giving it to me then I heard him mocking me with the cook. We had a great time at the garden bar. I read in advance that they don't take credit card so we came prepared. Plus we went to little even they had around the corner where we filled out a little two page survey and we received a free burger and beer! That was awesome! To be honest the stand outs here for us even though people seem to rave about the burgers were the chicken strips and fried Mac and cheese. They were so good! My wife couldn't stop talking about those Mac and Cheese balls for days!!! Their batter that they fry their chicken fingers Mac and cheese balls and I'd assume their onion rings is pretty amazing! The outdoor area is super nice and was awesome for our 4 kids! We will probably be coming back again while here in Bigfork! Go check it out. Just make sure to bring cash. read more

Definitely not the healthy way to go, but the food was good. Hubby had the taco salad which he enjoyed very much. I chose the Southwestern burger, even though I was in the NORTHwest! It was quite tasty. One issue was my daughter-in-law ordered a burger that was advertised with mushrooms and grilled onions, but requested they NOT put the mushrooms on. They got it backwards and held the onions instead. She should'a taken it back, but instead proceeded to pull ALL the mushrooms off (and if you LIKE mushrooms, there were LOTS) and end up with a pretty plain burger. I don't understand folks not gettin' what they asked for, and not sayin' anything so the business can try to make things right. Just don't make sense to me! This is a bar that sells food, not a restaurant. Order and pay for food at a window, and they bring it to your seat. But! You have to go to the bar to buy and pay for your drinks, and the bar is flanked by what looks like locals. I bought one round of drinks from the bar while we waited for our food... wanted a second round but bartenders ignored me... and either I waited longer and let my food get cold or just go without. The Garden Bar in Bigfork, Montana has not changed that much over the years. It is still the best place in town to go for a beer (or other drink) and a burger. Drinks are pretty reasonably priced, and the "garden area" out back is great in the evenings, or when it is not too hot out. The menu here is pretty basic, but they do solid burgers and sandwiches. You have to order and pay at the kitchen window. The kitchen staff are very experienced and work hard to get your food out quickly. The bathrooms could definitely be cleaner, but they do get a lot of traffic. This is "the" place to be for 4th of July in Bigfork. Note: they were operating "cash only" during the 4th. Went here on the recommendation of a local. It's the kind of place that you walk in and say, I wish we had one of these at home. It was pretty quiet on the day we went at lunchtime, we were the only guests upon entering and there were 10 people, including our group of 5 when we left. Why? Especially when the restaurant across the street had a waitlist? I'd opine it's because they're cash only. Who carries cash anymore? They have an ATM inside but a cash only policy just rubs people the wrong way, we all know why you're doing it. Plus, if you're a bar, why make it cash only? That encourages people to not drink as much. The savings they're getting by not accepting plastic are biting them in the butt, hard, I guarantee it. It might even put them under. But that's just my lowly opinion. Anyway, it's a casual, divey bar on the inside with pool tables and gambling machines on the inside with a nice size outdoor seating area and outdoor band area. I wish I'd taken pictures of the decor out back because it's a cool place to be. I'm really surprised it wasn't full at lunch, it has a great vibe. We had absolutely horrible service here! The lady in the kitchen who took our order was so rude. She would roll her eyes and say stupid when we asked for no mushrooms on the salad and no jalapeños on the nachos. Then she said to the other kitchen people no tip when I paid. I did give them a tip, we just needed to get more cash from the table. The people behind us asked how the burgers were cooked and she said she did not give a rat's a$$ at that time of night (it was 5 pm). We will never go back! read more

This was the only bar we checked out but I guess it's really the only one. Stick with ordering beer or basic well drinks. My friend ordered a Tom Collins and she tasted it and was like 'it tastes like sprite.' The bartender sees that we are all tasting it and she has a weird look on her face. He's like 'does it taste okay? I don't know what's in it so I mixed sprite, sour mix and triple sec.' Which if you know what a Tom Collin is it really none of the above. He didn't bother to asked her if she knew how to make it or offer to make her something else. Otherwise good music and hear they have live bands play too. Dan, Dave, owner, whatever your name is, don't tell us that our teams aren't playing just because you don't want to change one of the many TVs to either game (TVs that no one was watching) especially when we clearly know that our teams were playing... the stats were literally appearing at the bottom of the game you were watching. I know we aren't locals but Come On Man! You just lost out on good customers who were looking for a good time watching football with the locals and planned on pigging out and drinking a ton of beer. Thankfully I called the Marina Cay Resort that has the Champs Sports Bar (which is down the street) and they accommodated us (great service and our games - every game every sunday!!) Negative stars are a bit more fitting for this place! Came in yesterday with my family and on the front door was a sign posted that said "this is a family friendly environment" but it was quite literally the opposite. From the second we walked in we were treated as an inconvenience by the woman at the register (I wish she was wearing a name tag so that I could properly address her in this review). She gave a lot of attitude and was ready for us to leave from the second we walked in, us having done nothing wrong. We just won't bother coming back to this one! read more

I totally agree with Bob F.'s review on every conceivable level. If you're a local, you get rock star treatment because this place is definately where the locals hang out. The bartenders have been there for years and they remember what each and every local likes to indulge in. If you're from out of town and you're looking for service with a smile, lower your expectations and just be nice and you'll get a great cocktail, a really awesome burger and you'll meet some pretty wonderful people. And if you like to dance - wait until it gets dark and have at it. The owner is a huge supporter of the community who donates his time and his resources so often that it's hard to keep track of it all. Love it or only like it, it's the only game in town, I happen to be a fan. Due to it being the only full-on bar in the town, it get's crazy busy (all day) during any event held in Bigfork and just plain busy on Friday and Saturday nights. It has some monitors for the big game, pretty good bar food, a decent beer selection, and if it gets too crowded you can go through the back door and sit in the outdoor patio. It's a pretty colorful place and I always have a good time when I go...well, except for that one time. Getting a bartender who doesn't have an attitude or who is attentive to your needs can be hit or miss. If you're in Bigfork and you want to go to a bar and have a drink, you really don't have a choice. You will eventually have to go to The Garden, and you will be fine and you will have a good time. read more
