I've been dealing with orthopedic issues so I had to purge my closet and look for more foot friendly shoes. The Shoe Mill has an amazing selection and Mindi, who I believe is the owner, is incredibly efficient and knowledgeable. I bought two pairs of shoes and I also bought Birkenstock inserts which has turned out to be life-changing. We live in Scottsdale, but totally worth the trek. This place is a gem. read more

What a great experience here. I had been to a few shoe stores in the Phoenix and Mesa area but their selection was pretty sparse. But this store has so many shoes and brands. And the 2 women who were working the day I shopped were hustling. There were several customers in the store and they kept the suggested shoe offerings flowing, and were friendly and and helpful. Such a fun small business! I have been a regular customer since I was at ASU in the 90's! If you want to feel classy come here because this is a shoe store that will put your shoes on for you, just like the old days. These workers can tell you the background/story about every shoe in the store without being pushy. I came in this week after not being there since the pandemic and it reminded me of the commitment and amazing customer service that these women provide. Please not only give them a chance but ask for recommendations and they will bring out 100 shoes to try on just for fun! Needed to find comfortable but firm sole shoes after a stress fracture of my left foot. Found this store on Yelp and went yesterday. The friendliest and most patient salespeople. My husband bought a pair of Naot shoes which he loved and was on sale 1/2 price. After trying on many pairs of shoes I bought two pairs of Naot Sandels . Love this store. A great selection of very high quality men's (and women's) comfort and mostly fashionable shoes and sandals. [Not the place to go for athletic sneakers or runway style formal shoes.] Most of their men's shoe and sandal options take into account that we live in a warm and dry climate. Ask for Ashley, she has excellent taste, a helpful and not pushy attitude, and she totally got it when I explained what works for best for my feet. The only negative, is when you purchase anything and then see the exact same item in another competitors store (or, on the manufacture web site) at a much lower cost your out of luck for any credit back. Tall /red head in a green dress threw a box of shoes on the ground so close to my mom because my mom didn't like the style that was brought to her. If you are not past 70, or a yuppy hippy this store is not for you. Completely overpriced, most sandals for women were over $100 and looked like something my granny donated to goodwill. They carry all sorts of birkenstockesque kinda shoes. They boast "comfort" shoes, but who cares where you are walking when your feet look that ugly. The BF and I went here tonight after getting a Groupon for this store (40$ for 80$..pretty sweet). We got there about 10 minutes before closing, which was very rude of us, but the people who were working there didn't seem to mind and still gave us outstanding service! So much so that the woman who worked there offered to gift wrap a pair of shoes for us...even when we kept them late. I have come to this store many times because it's a pillar of Mill Ave.. they've been here as long as I can remember and I've always known it for comfort, quality (note, not hip, sexy, and cheap) made shoes... so, for those looking for hip, sexy, cheap shoes.. not for you. They do have some cute shoes that aren't 'granny' looking, but then again 'granny' may be all in the eye of the beholder.. at least for me, I have frequently seen cute shoes here that are usually over $80, so it's not like I buy gobs of them. BUT, when my mother in law needed quality, comfortable, long-lasting shoes for her job, I found her the perfect pair here... not cheap, but I'm pretty confident her shoes will last her a long time considering the manufacturer and quality of the sole and leather. I've loved this place since I set foot on Mill Ave back in the 90's. I've reached that point in my life (ahem...old) where I'm comfortable with comfortable shoes. There. I said it. Out loud. Sorta. I travel, walk and present while standing entirely too much during my work day to let a cheap pair of shoes get in the way , no matter how cute they are. Lucky for me, there's The Shoe Mill and they're great assortment of comfortable yet stylish (as they can be) "comfort shoes". Sure, they've got the Dansko's and Birks that you expect but they also carry Rainbows, Havianas, Prives and European brands (Fly from London- so cute!) in styles you don't see at the mall (men's and women's). To boot, they're one of the few retailers of Tano leather handbags (seriously an amazing investment bag that actually looks better over time) and HOBO clucthes/wallets in non-standard supply. Yes, they're a little pricey, but those are your feet you're standing on. Best of all, the service is extremely knowledgable, helpful and fun (at times a little too perky but it's so much better than the norm you get at other retailers). read more

Got here at 7:02 on Friday and they were closed. Everywhere online says they are open until 9:00 on Friday and Saturday. We were visiting Phoenix area and I wanted a new pair of Birkenstock's. I checked Yelp for the best store in the area. As previously mentioned, the store is pricey but Birkenstock are any way. Helen assisted us immediately upon entering and got me fitted and setup with new sandals immediately with several options. I then wanted my wife to get something and for the next 30 mins my wife tried on atleast 20 different shoes. Helen was fabulous and kept the shoes coming so my wife could make a good choice. Yes I did spend a lot of money and I normally dont like to spend a lot, but after the excellent customer service and hospitality I didnt mind. The store sells quality merchandise which is pricey, but you get what you pay for. If I ever come back to the area and need shoes or sandals, I will be back to see Helen. Amazing store! Privately owned - I love buying shoes from a private owner, they always try harder and have great customer service like this little shop. I tried on a million shoes but the clerk was so friendly and cheerful through it all. I ended up buying two pair of shoes - both on sale which was a bonus - one was Josef Seibel and was was something else but both VERY comfortable. My grandma raves about the shoes in this shop, so she brought me with her and my grandpa to buy some shoes. My grandma was immediately helped by one of the two store employees and was offered many shoes for her to try on. My experience was different. I was not helped. My grandpa actually had to walk up to the employee and request that I receive some help as I was a customer as well and was the one paying. I felt embarrassed that I was being treated differently as if there was something wrong with me. Even my own grandpa spotted this double standard. My grandparents are white and I am biracial. I was left to believe my skin color prompted this lack of service. I ended up purchasing upwards of $400 for shoes that day because they had a cute print, were very comfortable, and most of all it made my grandma happy. However, this was the first and last time I will shop at this store because I was made to feel unwelcome. read more
