I did some google research before shoe shopping here, but nothing can compete with a real human runner, measuring your arches and finding something specific for your needs. I bought 2 pairs of shoes for me (Hoka Bondi 8 & Brooks Addiction Walker 2) and a pair of Brooks Addiction Walker 2 for my sister on my 1st visit to Runners Den on 6/26/24 for my east coast trip. While replacing the insoles on Brooks shoes w/ Dr. Scholls' insoles, I was very surprised to see LOTS of dog hair on them. I even used packaging tape to get the dog hairs out and realized, Runners Den sold me NOT ONLY a USED pair of Brooks Addiction Walker 2, which was returned on 6/29/24, but also with insoles from different brands ("CUSHION" (left) & "BROOKS" (right))!!! The attached photos were taken AFTER I cleaned them using packaging tape. Luckily, my sister's Brooks shoes were NEW pairs of shoes. I'm very disappointed especially that the Runners Den was recommended by my podiatrist from Phoenix Foot and Ankle. read more

I've been a loyal customer for many years. No more. I went in today to buy some shoes and had a truly shitty experience. Every time I've ever bought shoes from them they automatically apply a loyalty discount. When I noticed there was no discount I simply inquired about it. Apparently that was a mistake. The young guy helping me called over a supervisor or something like that I'm not sure but the guy was an absolute (I'll let you use your imagination). We have been to Runner's Den many times. This store is not very big but, it does a very good business. Don't know if it's the location or the people that work there. Probably more because of the people, they are always so helpful. Originally our first time here was for a very good reason, "planters fasciitis" a very painful foot problem. Someone gave us some advice to visit here and find a good pair of shoes to help alleviate the foot pain. He just happened to visit here the one night they had a podiatrist to give advice on footwear. The shoes he bought plus the inserts helped to alleviate the pain and help it go away. That's the reason we started coming here. Today we just wanted a new pair of shoes to wear for comfort and we found them. The place was very busy and you could tell a lot of athletic people and distance runners come here. They have clothing and other types of items to buy for your needs. The shoes can be pricey but, if you are in a sport or into some athletic venture this is the place for you. Like I said, their staff is very helpful and will assist you in finding the right shoes for you. I'm not a runner. Okay, let me walk that back a bit. I was a runner (sort of, I never did more than 10k runs), but my knees started failing me when I reached my 30s thanks to a mix of bad family genetics and decades of athletic punishment. And for awhile I also dealt with a really bad case of Plantar Fasciitis (basically extreme pain in the arch of my foot). I needed shoes that would specifically allow me to walk long distances or get light workouts while giving me desperately needed arch support. On the recommendation of a family member, I came to Runners Den. You'll find Runners Den inside a nondescript looking building on the northeast corner of 16th Street and Maryland. The store is small, but the shelves are stocked full of gear that would make any marathoner beam with joy. From wearable fitness devices, to running clothes, to camelbacks, and yes of course the shoes. The store is pretty much created with runners in mind as evidenced by the fact that most of the store staff will start the conversation by asking you when you're running your next marathon. The first time I was asked this question the conversation went like this: Me: Probably never Him: Why not? Me: My knees are shot and I've got plantar fascia issues. Him: What if we can find you a shoe to solve those problems? Me: Does such a miracle shoe actually exist? Him: Only one way to find out And off we went. The shoe selection here is definitely on the more expensive side ($150 on the low end) but there's little doubt Runners Den has top quality kicks. We ended up trying about a half dozen different shoes before I settled on a pair of Asics that quite literally transformed my feet. The abundant arch support and cushioning were a game changer, so much so that I haven't had plantar fascia issues since. My knees still aren't quite what they used to be, but thanks to Runners Den I can now get a good workout and walk all day without any pain. I've now been a loyal customer of Runners Den for 4 years and have always been able to get a great pair of athletic shoes that I can count on. And with their loyalty rewards program I get a discount each time I buy a new pair. Their staff are always extremely encouraging, enthusiastic, and knowledgable and the shoe selection is phenomenal. My feet can attest to the fact that their products are worth the money and the pleasant customer service is just icing on the cake. No wonder they've been around since 1978. I still don't think I'll ever run a marathon in my lifetime, but like the first Runners Den employee told me, never say never. read more

I read that I should replace my shoes every 500 miles somewhere, when I checked my record, it was a way over 500 miles but my race day was so close, I waited until my race was over. Be sure to arrive with your current running shoes if possible. Staff looked at my shoes and assessed how I normally run before she asked me to walk and run. She also asked how many miles a week I run, how many races I did, to assess my needs. She brought three pairs to try on. As soon as I put the second choice, I knew it was meant to be mine. I tried on the third one, then back to the second, as soon as I put the second one, it was an instant decision. Just felt so right. It was like this pair was designed just for me! Race packet I picked up included a coupon for another shoe store (much larger corporation). I read their Yelp reviews but saw too many negative reviews. Decided to not to use that coupon, another Yelp search led me to this store. Thank you Yelp for another great find! She didn't push or recommend unnecessary accessories. Price was reasonable. Sure it isn't cheap. You pay for service and selection from a specialty store. I'm always surprised at how few good specialty shops of any kind there are in Phoenix. As far as I can tell Runner's Den is THE specialty running store in the Valley - and thank the gods its a great one. It can be crowded on weekends, and the wait for assistance can be maddening, but it is worth it. The only way they could afford more floor space and staff would be to broaden their focus and then they would just be another Champs or Big 5. Want to get fitted for shoes by someone who knows what they are doing and can recommend the best shoe for you? Maybe analyze the wear pattern on your present clogs and suggest a replacement? Or would you prefer going to the mall, saving $15 bucks and having a pimply-faced teenager who spends most of his life on Xbox take care of you? It's your choice! I was a serious - meaning top 20 nationally in my age-group - multi-sport guy when I lived in SoCal, so I think I know a good running store when I see one. And trust me, Runner's Den is LEGIT! The folks working there are all runners and pretty serious about what they do. Excellent selection of shoes, socks and toys for foot massage and other devices. Things you might find at Tribal Multi-sport but otherwise nowhere else in the Valley that I know of. You will not be disappointed. Oh yeah, parking is a bitch at this place.
