I knew about this store for awhile but didn't get to check it out until today. I accidentally flushed my shoe laces to a pair of my running shoes down the drain today and needed to find replacement shoelaces. Who knew that finding shoelaces would be so difficult? I guess I should have just gone online to buy them! I first went to REI and then Road Runners and they both didn't have any in stock, so I then tried this store out and they had a good selection of shoe laces, but also many other items too besides running shoes. I liked some of their apparel and checked out some of the hydration packs they have in stock. Three or 4 staff members helped me out and everyone was so nice and really attentive. One guy even tried looking up a hose I needed for my Osprey 3L hydration pack, but they didnt have any in stock or online. But, I did find a pair of shoe laces and I will definitely be back again for my running needs! read more

My 9-year-old wanted to join running club at school and he has never really owned running shoes in his life! He's a Vans / hiking boots kid. Anyway, I Googled where to get fitted for running shoes, and who had running shoes for kids. Sole Sports' reviews speak for themselves and they were close to home - so off we went. For the initial fitting a young lady helped us. She listened to his requests and was very patient with his sizing (he was anywhere from a six in women's to a 7.5 - who knows?). She made sure they fit in a way moms can't (lol) and allowed him to try them out on the treadmill. They didn't have the exact color in his size so they ordered them from another store for us. After we left he was *beaming.* He kept talking about how nice she was to him. I price-compared in the interim, even with Amazon, and their store was SPOT ON. I couldn't find the shoes even a buck cheaper - so of course we went back to pick them up! Sean helped us for pickup. I had purchased some of those stretchy, no-tie laces but had no idea how to put them in the shoes. My kiddo was VERY hesitant about them - but he also HATES tying his shoes. Anyway, Sean happily put the new laces in for us, showed both of us how to use them - and put them on other shoes. That was the instant my son was sold - because they were so easy to use. Upon checkout we got a discount - not sure if the shoes were on sale or what - but that was the icing on the cake. I purchased 2 pair of Hokas for my husband and me for our trip to Spain online from Sole Sports. They arrived a few weeks prior to the trip which was two weeks. My husband didn't try his on so when he finally did, they were too narrow so he didn't wear them. He usually wears an average width. I assumed it was too late to return. In November, a friend suggested I just ask if they would take them back. Lo and behold, they said that they would change them out for another pair. Call first! The store was lovely and we had professional service and I don't think their very good reputation should get dinged for an inventory system error, thus the five stars. HOWEVER please be aware that while the website seems like it's up-to-date with in-store sizing and per-store inventory, it is not. We drove more than 30 minutes there last night to purchase the remaining size 12 Nike high jump shoe that was "in stock" according to the website. But they did not have them in stock. Disappointing revelation + lots of time and gas wasted. Nice employees though, and they were almost as bummed as us. read more

I went to Sole Sports because after years of not running I've started running and was training for a 5k. My first trip there was pretty good overall and I got a decent pair of shoes. The salesperson didn't put me on the fancy foot assessment thing but did observe my gait and helped me try on a bunch of different shoes until I found a pair I liked. During our interaction she asked if my toes went numb when I ran and I said no. But after a couple runs in my new shoes I did notice some numbness. So I went back, took my wife with me since she's been running on an 8 year old pair of shoes, and I'm super glad I did. This time we got James. He was phenomenal. Put us both on the computer thing, brought out so many pairs of shoes I lost count, inserts to help with my high arches, and educated us on being a more serious runner with all his experience running marathons. We got so many pairs of the right socks, two pairs of shoes each to allow the pair we aren't using to reform between runs (returned the pair I got before cause it didn't really work for my feet), and two pairs of inserts. Did the bill add up, yes. But it's way cheaper than having the wrong shoes and ending up with long term foot problems especially since I plan on running for a bunch more years. James spent at least two hours with us making sure we had everything fit just right. Worth every penny read more

Based on the reviews went to the store and got the Gait analysis done and they walked me through on my running style and suggested brands I never tried before. Instantly i could feel the difference and it changed my perspective of buying athletic shoes for training and running. These people know their [athletic] shoes! I adore Sole Sports. I originally bought a pair of shoes here about a year ago on the stern suggestion of one of my gym's trainers. Just by looking at the bottom of my then-gym shoes she instructed me to buy a new pair and not come back until doing so. Naturally I took the next day to go to the store and see what I could find. I have awkward feet [wide flat high-instep] that can make it difficult to find good-fitting, comfortable gym shoes. I only had to try on a few pairs before finding the winner in 2016. I wore them to my next session and felt they were a little too big for my feet. Luckily though I work near another Sole Sports in Scottsdale and was able to exchange for a smaller size. So come to last week when I was instructed again by same instructor to get a new pair of gym shoes. Since they keep customer information, I was in and out of this Tempe location in 30 minutes. I literally went straight from the gym and pointed to my Asics shoes upon arrival and let the rep know I wanted the same pair but newer. Within a few minutes he brought out the new styles and I was able to get an updated pair for about what I paid a year ago. I didn't need long to walk around the store to determine which size would work. Since I was a returning customer I received 10% off my bill. Yes good shoes can be expensive, but if you care about your feet and not hurting yourself when working out, the money is totally worth the investment. I can't say enough good things about this shop. Rich and Josh are awesome. I bought a pair of Brooks Beasts this summer as my wife raves about her Brooks shoes and I'd read good things about the Beasts specifically for bigger runners. Josh fitted me and did a nice job dialing in the size and confirming EEEE as I'm flat footed and always done well with New Balance 4Es. Since the special order took a few days and I needed a new pair of running shoes for my vacation in New Hampshire, I ordered the same same shoe off Amazon thinking I'd have two great pair of shoes. Unfortunately, they did not work out for me, super uncomfortable running and walking with bad cramping in the ball and outer edges of my feet. So after trying them 4 or 5 times, needless to say, I never wore the pair that came in from Sole Sports and I kept thinking to return but honestly felt bad and kept procrastinating. Finally today I went in and talked to Rich, explained the situation and asked if he would honor the Brooks 365 promise for new shoes. He said absolutely, took the time to observe my gait, brought out 3 pairs of shoes for me to try (Hoka, New Balance and Brooks) and told me to focus on cushioning feel because he knew that 4E would be special order. I LOVED the Hoka One Ones and he said he'd be happy to special order but also suggested that I go to the New Balance outlet to try on the 4Es because he was sure they have them in stock and I'd told him I had good experience with NB. This is the kind of customer service that really shines and reminds me of the kind of local relationships I've built with bike shops. Definitely earned my repeat business! I needed a new pair of running shoes and reviews online said the sizing changed from the previous version I was using so needed to go to a concrete store for some old fashioned shoe buying; not online. I stopped at one local store and had a terrible experience with both customer service and the stock available so finally took the reccomendations of friends and went here. And they were so friendly! I didn't much care for the redesign of the Asics gel cumulus so the attendant offered to bring out some comparables. As I tried on each shoe and made comments about the feel and weight. He was very knowledgeable in discussing the shoe features. I mean that's super nice because that's why I'm going to the store, to try out shoes and weigh the pros and cons. I finally tried Nike Air Zoom Pegasus and my foot felt like home. Like my foot was hugged in the most comforting way. Like I wasn't alone anymore. After tolerating some weird comments about how the shoes made me feel comforted and safe, I tried on some more shoes, the clerk also giving his feedback on the qualities I pointed out. I ended up choosing the Nikes. I didn't feel like he was pressuring me into more expensive shoes and really listened to what I was looking for in a shoe. I also felt like I got such a good deal I bought a shirt too! They explained a generous 30 day exchange/ return policy if I got them home and didn't end up loving them. I love that I also have an option to exchange if they aren't everything I'm expecting. Overall, I left with a great pair of shoes at a reasonable price that had all the qualities I'm looking for. The knowledge about shoes, friendliest staff and patience far exceeded anything I have ever received before from a sneaker buying experience. I am training for a 10K but I've been getting knee pain at mile 5 every run. I first went to roadrunner where they filmed my gait, then recommended stability shoes. Those caused me even more knee pain! I couldn't make it past mile 3. And don't get me started on that annoying bell that they ring... So I went over to Sole Sports where they filmed my gait again. Turns out I barely pronate only on the left side so I simply needed some more cushioned neutral shoes. I got fitted for some new brooks and what do you know? I ran a 10K yesterday with zero knee pain! Their prices are comparable to other stores and they will let you exchange used running shoes for 30 days. I'm happy to say I won't need to exchange but it's a nice option. I will be going here from now on! They also have a running club on Monday nights which is nice if you are a woman and don't want to run alone at night. read more
