I've been here several times for different things. I've gotten things from attire, to kayaking gear, to a bike for my girl's son for Christmas. The service is almost always good and the guy that built the bike when I bought it was really cool, helpful, and informative. I can't say the prices are always great, but what place has that? I will say they always have deals and good sales and so the pricing is pretty good. They have a large selection and the place is really big so there's usually many of each item in stock. I would recommend them for, at least, an option when you're shopping for sporting goods. read more

I love shopping here for my sports and athletic attire. My issue is sizing/availability since my body type isn't one side fits all, but otherwise I was able to find some things for my hiking and paddle boarding adventures. 8550 S. Emerald Dr., Tempe, AZ store. The service was unacceptable delivered by indifference, lack of care, knowledge and topped by manager's defensiveness from ego. At 10am on March 16, 2025, I walked into this store with my family into a relatively quiet store. We were shopping to buy a youth baseball bat. We know the many shopping options we have available to us, but chose to go to Dick's in hope of store expertise. We went to the baseball section and saw a blonde boy named Brandon walking by. We asked him for help. He said he doesn't work in the section, but would look for Jacob. He went into the back room and came out to tell us, Jacob is not available. He proceeded to pull out his store app to tell us we could go online to help ourselves. I told Brandon, if I wanted to research online, I could just buy online, so if he could just ask Jacob to come help us. He took off to look for Jacob again, and came back to tell us Jacob is still not available. I asked if Jacob is just busy, because we can wait. Brandon said Jacob is working in the soccer section. I said maybe you can swap places with Jacob if Jacob is the only one with baseball knowledge. Brandon then continued to tell us to go on app to throw us roadblocks to "go away". I then asked to speak to a manager for help. Julia, the floor manager, then came over, and asked what we needed. I explained to her what happened and that we needed expertise assistance on youth bats. Julia then asked me what kind of bat I was looking for, in which, I told her, if I knew, I wouldn't be needing help. I didn't want to waste time with Julia, so I her if she played baseball? Her reply was "I am a girl, obviously not". Surprised by her gender biased reply, I told her, a woman can still play baseball if not at least softball. At that point, she said she is going to ask me to leave HER store. I replied "wow, you are kicking me out of your store, because you are embarrassed by my question and obviously feeling defensive from your own insecurities". She then tried to blame me for disrespecting her, so I told her seriously, your store has tons of cameras to show I wasn't, so you are making up a reason for your own embarrassment and ego to kick out a customer who is just asking for help to buy a $300 bat? At that point, Jacob walked over and stood 10' away, he is a scrawny unathletic looking guy with dark hair wearing glasses. I realized after seeing him that he would not have the right knowledge I need to buy a bat. (He probably didn't want to assist and was hiding in the beginning because he knew he couldn't). He should have just been honest. Everyone at the store should have just been honest to say they don't have the right staff with bat knowledge on a Sunday morning to assist. I saw at least 6 people at the store not doing anything much including Julia. They were all getting paid for not doing much and lost a $300 sale, because none wanted to work/help or didn't have the courage to be honest with customers, but was called out. Dick's sporting goods shouldn't just have cashiers working the floor. Your customers go to a brick and mortar to seek knowledge so they can buy your stocked items. Otherwise, they can just buy online or you can just have self check-outs and save your wages on paying 6 useless floor employees just standing around visiting with one another. Based on other similar poor reviews on this store, corporate should do secret shopper and clean up the poor attitude, which usually is at the top. UPDATE: I went to Scheels down the road and received the expected service. The attendant was knowledgeable and helpful. He suggested bat length and drop as well as knowing high school baseball latest requirements. All this without the drama and lazy employees I experienced at Dick's Tempe Store. No wonder the parking lot and store was packed at Scheels. I guess a lot of people already know about all this. read more

Went to pick up an online order today (10/16) around noon at the Tempe store, was criticized by a female employee at the cashier counter for not coming in within the 4-day window and that they had to retrieve the item from the back room instead of the cabinet at the front (I came in five days after the email notification). I explained to her that I did not receive any email reminder saying item will no longer be on hold, therefore thinking I still had time to pick it up. She bluntly informed me that when the first email was received, customer should have come within 4 days to pick up. Really giving the impression that the customer was in the wrong. Very unpleasant experience, regardless whatever your store policy is, especially given the fact that most stores would send reminder email before the last day of the pickup time window.  Think twice before order on-line instore pick up again at Dicks Tempe. read more

We've never had a problem with this Dick's Sporting Goods. The store is staffed with friendly and helpful people that are not overbearing. They greet you when you arrive and leave you alone to shop. If you need help they will gladly engage. The store is a significant size and has a lot of products. I wish they would start carrying a broader variety of sizes, but otherwise no complaints or concerns with this store. read more

I was looking for a new hat to wear in the warm AZ sun. When my wife and I entered the store, we saw 3 or 4 employees at the front counter. Did any of them say "Welcome to Dicks" or "May we help you find something?" Nope. Not a word. We searched the store for hats. They are not in one place. We took the escalator upstairs and I thought the person I saw might have been an employee but when I looked more closely, she was leaning on a display glued to her cell phone. I later found out she WAS an employee. Did she ask if she could help us? Nope. My wife finally found someone who took us to a hat stand then immediately walked away. That was enough for us. We walked out of the store....past the same employees at the counter ignoring customers. We went to REI and had a wonderful experience there. We will NOT be at DICKS again. read more

Went to Dicks today to buy a basketball hoop. Went to pay and was told it qualified for free shipping to our house, went to pay and the $70 shipping was not removed. Manager came over and said the employee was wrong and shipping was not actually free and did not offer any recourse for the mistake. While talking to manager I went on Scheels website and found the exact same item for $50 cheaper and in stock, manager pretty much told me to go to Scheels. Instead of retaining a customer, one was lost. He gave me customer service number to cancel my order, and I went to Scheels and got the item right away for $50 cheaper plus no $70 shipping charge. Will be going to Scheels from now on, customer service was excellent there plus saved money! read more

They have stuff ranging from camping equipment to golf, to canoes and more! Anything else you can think of they probably got. The price point can be a little bit higher compared to online retailers, but I. Certain cases get will make sure to price match. We needed a certain basketball and I was willing to pay the $4 premiums. To get it in the store vs online ordering. A lot of other equipment was spot on as far as price so definitely should consider as an option. Now my son buys his cleats, gloves, bats, helmet and all other sports related gear. The employees are always friendly and know what they're talking about. Never pushy but always available when you need them. The fact that they have the real deal batting cage available for free is a real pro. You can try out a bat and get a feel for it before purchasing. Also, we've needed them in a pinch for a too small helmet and they came through. Smart that they sell team blankets by the registers. Even in Arizona some night games require a bit of extra warmth. read more

Not my favorite sporting goods store. Don't get me wrong, I am a total jock, and going into any sporting goods shop excites me. This said, my 1st sport is tennis. And the tennis court shoes at Dicks are substandard to that in specialty and online tennis shops. Same with racquets. Oh it's a step up from wallymart and target, but that all - just one step. I guess knowledge is empowering. But based on their product selection and my limited conversations with store staff, I would never get my racquet restringing here. Can much go wrong with restringing? #OMG!!! I came here totally ready to buy a softball bat and found that they had some other items I wanted to buy. The sales staff is uninformed and maybe because it's a Friday during the day and they would rather be somewhere else but I got no help from various staff members and when I did ask questions they would routinely say, this is not my sport so I just don't know what to tell you. I don't blame the staff. I blame the managers. Someone needs to train the staff on customer service. When I was told they don't know about (I looked at softball bats, pickleball rackets, kayak equipment, and a Nordictrack stationary bike) each and every staff member was not only unable to help, they didn't think to say, "let me get someone that knows about these products". This is one huge Dick's, in this case size does matter, as there are two floors to meet your sporting and hobby needs. I'm usually a Big 5 or REI gal, but this location is clean, stocked, and close by. They have a rewards program, but I have just signed up, so I'll have to see how it compares with the aforementioned. There was a small clearance area, prices were on the high side, but the large inventory means most of what I needed was available. We are always asked if we need help, and they have scooters available if you are shopping with someone who needs one. Convenient, though not a "fan" by Yelp! definition, I'll return. read more

This place literally has ALL of THAT, and then SOME!! The bottom line is that unless you are looking for something obscure, vintage, or antique/ancient related to sporting goods you will either find exactly what you are looking for here, or you will at least find something close to/similar to what you are looking for ... I'm pretty sure that these massive Dick's stores have put most of the smaller sporting good stores out of business by this point ... I mean how could another sporting store realistically compete with this place? This store is so big and has so much cool stuff in it that I walk around this place just for fun to check out all the neat things everywhere. If you love sports this place is like being a kid in a candy store ... Your eyes open up real wide, and there is literally such a variety of sporting items that it can be nearly overwhelming! The cool thing about dicks is that they typically have a lot of sales going on, which is great ... The odd part was seeing more employees inside than customers ... Yet not one of the employees asked if they could help me look for anything ....hmmmm I dunno maybe they were intimidated by me?? It was rather amusing when I went to check out and they had only one register open. There got to be quite a line when one of the customers seemed to be having issues checking out. Then, finally they called over another employee, who was probably just hanging out somewhere in the store "playing" on their cell phone, to open up another register. Many of the employees I walked by seemed to be doing A LOT of NOTHING ... Dick's definitely deserves at least 4 stars because I've never seen another sporting goods store anywhere in the US come close to offering what this place does. It truly is a one stop shop when it comes to sporting/athletic gear, clothes, devices, products, etc. The only negative is the lazy careless employees that work here. At the very least it would be more productive for them to stand/hang out in close proximity to the entrance and greet people walking in, and asking them if they need help to find anything. read more

They probably had 30 to 40 different types of soccer shoes but only four - 4 - for women. Are you kidding? Four? This is the biggest sporting good store in all of Phoenix Metro area. You only have four styles of women soccer shoes? That is ridiculous!! Other thoughts... Yes, they have good sporting goods stuff, but they overpriced. So, I was looking to get a Yoga mat, and thought that Dicks would be a great place to go to get something like that. I know this location is brand new, as I used to live right near it, and literally watched them build it from the ground up. This location has amazing hours! Open late most nights, and is right off the expressway. you cant miss it! Its in the same district as Ikea, off the I-10. Anyways, this place is well lit, has a ton of parking, and is so well organized its not even funny. Not a thing was out of place. It has two floors, and carries a ton of stuff. I cruised through the womens section of clothing, and they have shoes, running stuff, you name it, its there! I was able to find the Yoga mats, and they had a little selection in the back of the store. Did I mention this place is really well lit? Anyways, they had a small variety of mats. They also had a beginner mat set, that came with a video, a block and a yoga strap. 25 bucks! most of the mats I saw were about 20 bucks alone, so for the extra 5 bucks, I sprug for the extras. I think I got a pretty good deal. While I was wandering around, a staff member asked if there was anything I needed. Just talked to him for a minute about yoga mats, and he said that was the only spot in the store that they would be at. Seemed to know his stuff. I really like Dick's Sporting goods. It is nice to shop in a nearly brand-new spacious store, but I can't say the prices were all that special. I found a couple of performance fabric workout shirts that were a couple bucks cheaper than what I was used to paying, so I bought them to add to the rotation. Don't want to use dirty laundry as an excuse to not go work out, so I've been stocking up recently. A note to other Dick's virgins out there: in order to get into the fitting rooms, there is a button you need to push to alert a clerk. I stood in front of the fitting rooms for a while, trying to look obvious to any nearby employees to no avail. It wasn't until I decided to hunt down a sales associate, muttering about my newfound invisibility, that another patron told me about the magic button. I pushed it and it was all good... immediate response from the nearest person with a key. The employee did mention that the button gizmo looked like a fire alarm, which explains why I never saw it in the first place. I left feeling a little bit stupid, but happy with my purchase. Oh Dick's sports. The service at many of the the stores is so bad it's laughable. Clearly a management problem not a front line employee issue. From employees in the shoe department that bring out a box and then wordlessly walk away never to be seen again to employees hanging up merchandise that aggressively avoid eye contact so you don't ask them a question. I only go here as a last option. The stores are generally clean so if I know what I want and run in and find it they are okay. How can this place stay in business? read more
