I have always gone to Sporting Goods stores to buy my shoes. Well, I went to find a pair of work boots at Big 5 last night and the experience was awful. There are 30 on display, and only a handful are available out on the floor. I asked an employee to get me a couple pairs and he seemed very annoyed. The shoes themselves were either so cheap they lacked any cushioning, or the steel toe insert stuck out into the inside of the shoe, scraping the toes. When I explained my preference to the same employee he got upset and said "If you want good shoes, go to Shoe Barn." (I assume he meant Boot Barn, but I digress.) I was there for just shy of an hour. I wasn't able to find a decent pair of work boots that simply had some cushion/weren't scraping my toes. To his credit, the employee did try and help me, going to the back 3-4 times in total. I left without any boots. Conclusion: Big 5 is great if you need a pair of dumbbells or something simple like that. They are not well-stocked for shoes and I strongly recommend going someplace else. read more

Love this Big 5 store. It's not the biggest, but it's most convenient for me because I am often in the area. They usually have what I need. Love the 1 day deals, as they usually have what I'm looking for. Sometimes with shoes they are a little slow in getting to you, but otherwise, no issues using my digital coupons. They're always friendly and helpful. I can get in and out of the store quickly with what I've come to get. A loyal customer. read more

This place is great when you are in a pinch and need a more elite selection of sporting supplies. Usually I am able to get in and out of here within minutes. Today I went in and I actually asked a sales person for help with some T-ball helmets. His name was Robert and he was of absolutely zero use to me. He seemed like he was more interested in just standing behind the cashier register and staring at customers than he was with actually helping customers out. I asked him where the tball helmets were and that I needed assistance with them. He just kind of pointed over to the general area and told me where they were located and that whatever was there was what they had available. He never walked me over, he never asked what size I was looking for and he never offered to help me at all. Horrible customer service from him. I was able to locate another sales person who was extremely helpful and I even let him know that his coworker at the register was of absolutely zero use to me. I ended up having to go back to Robert to make my purchase in the end. Not friendly at all. I like the store itself and the manager was very nice and accommodating, but I'm better off not asking for help. read more

For some reason, I like this store. We've been shopping here for years for various sports needs and really have never let me down. We've purchased probably a dozen or more pairs of shoes for the kiddos over the years. Good shoes, trendy styles, name brands and good prices. We've purchased a decade's worth of baseball equipment from here, as well. One of the things I have learned about this store, is never buy anything that's not on sale (unless you absolutely must have it right then and there). If you're patient, the items will probably available at a lower prices within a few weeks. Even during "off seasons" we've been able to pick up some good quality equipment at a respectable discount. The folks who work here are definitely not overly enthusiastic to help, but if you ask a question, you will get a polite answer. Which in my book, is good enough. Will we shop here again? Absolutely! I have been coming to this store for the last 4 years. We have had a great experience finding reasonably priced items. Customer service especially today was excellent. Only issue is at night the parking lot lighting is extremely lacking. I recommend coming during day light hours. Only 4 stars simply because of a slightly limited selection, but mostly because of the dimly lit parking lot. Best to shop during day light hours. read more

Door says open at 9:30AM. Showed up at 9:35AM and doors still locked. Then they waited and opened at 10AM. Business is simple. Do what you say your going to do. Change the sign to correct hours or open at the time you posted. If not good luck! read more

Absolutely no service other than taking my money at the register and my change wasn't even counted out. Won't be back unless I'm returning what I bought. Will go to my other Big 5 on Ocotillo or go to a completely different sporting goods store to spend my money. read more

The most pathetic excuse for customer service I have ever seen. I always buy my sunglasses here. They usually have good sales on basic glasses. I am hard on them so cost is key. Well I stood in front of the sunglasses. This is right next to the checkout. Two employees, one I feel was the manager, stood there and ignored me. They talked and talked about some video game they were excited to play. So I just waited. How long until they said "can I help you?" Well after about 10 (in a near empty store) I gave up. Worse customer service EVER!!!! 5 employees were standing at the front by the register when we walked in, not one person greeted us or asked if we needed help finding anything. They were all white so maybe the whole store is racist?! We searched for about 10 minutes and then had to ask a worker to help us, then the guy disappeared again right after that, knowing I still needed more things. I have shopped at Big 5 since 2008 and have never had a bad experience. I mostly went there for their tennis shoe deals. Today I was greeted upon my arrival and no less than 4 other people checked in on me and offered to help as I browsed. It shouldn't be shocking when clerks approach you to help, but in my opinion this is rare! Great prices and great service today. read more

Went to look at the knives on sale. Great at staring at you as you walk around the store, so 5 stars for that. Greeting you and asking if you need assistance, 1 star. I went to two different Dick's Sporting Goods to find some shoes. Both stores did not have enough staff to help their customers. Neither had my size in any shoe I picked. I decided to go back to the Big 5 near my home. We were greeted as we walked in the door. Nice kid helped me right away. Had all five shoes I picked in my size. I bought two pair and my wife bought herself a pair unexpectedly. Next time I'll skip the trips to Dick's and head straight to Big 5. read more
