Stopped in here yesterday and it was absolutely worth the drive. I was nervous as a mom of a son who only had played flag football and was transitioning to tackle. Both employees (Liz and I can't remember the guys name) were great and so helpful. The young man took the time to make sure we got gear that fit properly and also gave me options for different price points being very honest and transparent about pros/cons of each one. Liz took the time to make sure his helmet was fitting correctly being so sweet and gentle. Great place for equipment & decent pricing. Found my 12 year old a helmet, pads and pants fairly quickly - the gal was super great measuring it to him and making sure everything fit right. I bought a new helmet, and used shoulder pads. Not even a month later the strap to the shoulder pads broke off. I brought them in, it appeared like the straps had been replaced before. The guy was great, he gave me a newer set of used pads in the same size, and credited me some money off those from the broken ones. I will not return to Sports Exchange in Mesa. A man by the name of Kevin Alms bullied me on Facebook marketplace and told me "to get over yourself." I'm 60 years old and new to Facebook Marketplace. I was prepared to pay the full asking price, but when Sports Exchange had an option in the market place to make an offer, I made the suggested %10 less the asking price. I received a rude response of "no". You would have thought they would reply with a why don't you come in and view the machine, or we're not reducing our price at this time, or that offer is firm. I thought maybe the item was sold I asked, and again, the response, "no". I asked why the attitude? Here is the response I was provided: "your funny...i've sold many of these at this price...i dont have any issues selling my products...and by the way facebook automatically puts the 'make an offer' in there not me...so get over yourself...Have a Wonderful day." I called to speak to the owner/manager he had the same attitude stating that he has no problem with what his employee said or did. Needless to say, they lost an $850 sale that day. I contacted sports exchange on Facebook regarding buying some plates weights. I was told the stock was limited and needed to come in. I have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and can not wear a mask. I came into the store and there was 2 workers and 1 other customer. He said do you have a mask and I said no I have a medical condition, he glares at me. So I say do I have to leave if I don't have one. He looks at the sign and says everyone needs a mask..... it's a shame that a person who has a hard time breathing already was forced to leave when I was going to spend over 1000$ in product. I had ordered a pair of dumbbells from Rogue, they were a complete disaster and could only deliver 1. Soon enough, Sports Exchange had DBs that came in with same look/feel as the Rogue one so it'd be a good match (rubber, etc.). Not the easiest store in the shopping center to find, but it was pretty quick to go in and buy it. That said, still pretty high prices. No, not as bad as the people on Amazon or Walmart charging $200 for a 45 lb. dumbbell, but they're still charging $2/lb (+ tax), still higher than pre-pandemic. Whether that's fair is up for debate (they're at least more or less in line with any other option out there), but I would hesitate to call the prices "good." (Still marginally more expensive than Rogue, had Rogue been able to deliver.) The people in the store were friendly, no issues there. There was a family behind me in line not maintaining anywhere near 6 feet, with the kids running around, and the father not wearing his mask over his nose. Ah, Arizona. It would be nice to have a slightly better real-time inventory system on their website instead of having you follow their instagram (after seeing an ad on Facebook), looking for their stories, and seeing what their updates are. Its really nice to have another option in town for used sporting goods but the customer service is awful. The owner can come across as condescending at times. I have bought a couple pairs of boxing gloves from here and I always get great service. I work as the sales manager for a local MMA gym and everyone who needs equipment I tell them to go see the people at sport exchange. It's not very big so chances are you will drive past it 2 or 3 times prior to finding it but once you do they have all sorts of equipment. They have fair prices, they are knowledgeable, and they are local. All 3 things that I find extremely important in a business. read more

Buyer Beware: Just bought a set of rubber dumbbells 10 to 30 lbs. and Weight Rack for 350 dollars; while in the store I was checking out a recumbent bike and asked the owner what the return policy was and he told me 30 days. Also, noted on their website is a 30-day return policy. In short, I had to return the rubber dumbbells because of the intense rubber Oder coming from them (something you can research more online about), which I bought to get healthy and not sick from. Anyway, when I returned them I was told by the cashier that there is no refund and you only have 7 days to exchange them. I ended up exchanging them for the Hex Cast Iron one's he had, which looked like cheap used one's painted over and could have gotten better one's for the same price or cheaper at Dicks Sporting Goods with their discounts. This is what I get for trying to support a local mom and pop shop. Don't mind paying extra for good products and good customer service. I will never being going back to that dishonest store and I wouldn't even doubt that the owner was hiding in the back when I returned the items. read more

Was searching for some baseball equipment for my son. The prices were about what I was expecting for used equipment. Although they had some higher end gloves and bats cheaper than I was finding others selling on offer up. The staff was nice and helpful. Good pricing, decent selection, poor customer service. They were understaffed on a Saturday. Poor service on helping with fitting. Ended up with pants that weren't fitted properly and had to return 2 more times to get the properly fitted shoulder pads. Poor return exchange policy. read more

The gf and I both enjoy being active. We have some activities that overlap, but have trouble matching them up. Biking is fine, but my long legs prefer faster road bikes, where her not long legs goes towards enjoying the ride. She enjoys running, where I go tired of rolling my ankles every few miles. The gf has been taking tennis at the local community college and loving every minute of it. I played tennis back in high school and was in the winning pair in gym class. I just needed a racquet. Enter Sports Exchange. I had just been to Bookmans to trade in some CDs and books whose box hadn't been opened for some 8 years. I was on a high to the tune of $80 trade credit. On the way out of the parking lot, Sports Exchange caught my eye. Used sports gear? Yes! Just inside, the interior had the familiar look of most shops with used sports equipment. Maybe the lighting was dim, maybe the carpet was old, I don't recall exactly. I do recall being greeted by the owner. Kevin Alms was answering a few questions on boxing gloves. From what I overheard, the two guys (Father-son would be my guess) were looking for gloves for UFC fighting. Kevin told them the differences between the colors and asked a few questions about the intended use, and made some suggestions. When he checked in with me, I let him know I was looking for a tennis racquet. I told him I'd played racquetball and wanted to play tennis with my gf. He showed me the different types of racquets, one for power and one for accuracy. Not wanting to kill my tennis partner, I went for accuracy. I stumbled through the racks of racquets (no pun intended, I won't take credit for that), I asked if *this* was one he'd recommend. After getting my price range, he gathered a few racquets that fit my profile within my budget (there was also sale on tennis racquets). He pointed to one that he thought was the best, which I chose and he checked me out. I don't really like shopping unless I have a good idea of what I'm looking for. Bought a weighted vest here and upon trying it out at home, I determined that it didn't fit right. I had read online that they did not accept returns, so I was a little bit skeptical when I took it back to exchange it for a used olympic lifting bar I had seen there. They gladly exchanged it for me! I have no complaints about the experience. This shop has lots of useful stuff that larger chain stores like dicks, sports authority etc do not carry - kettlebells (cheapest I have seen ANYWHERE), pylo boxes, lifting gear. Went into this store today for my kids. One just for weights and stuff, the other just started mma. Wasn't expecting much, but I have to say this place was pretty organized for a used store. The young lady worked extremely well my kids! I don't know if they work on commission, but she was surprisingly right on with everything we needed.
