Well, it's open on a Tuesday because I'm here, for starters. Maybe that's a Yelp thing. Warm Bitburger beer, that was a bummer. One server, young guy in early 20s, scruffy beard and glasses, coughing repeatedly and not washing his hands. Slow service, he has often been working on his MacBook instead of helping guests. A truly amazing experience all around! The atmosphere was so beautiful and clean! The service was so friendly and on top of everything! My waitress even had spot on recommendations. I asked for a great red, she gave me a sample of a Bordeaux of their German wine. I've never had German wine so I was so excited to try that! Walked in saw the price tags and my jaw dropped. Super pricey and slow service. One young kid working in the place that wasn't very knowledgeable. Ordered a beer and some appetizers. Watched the table that came in after us get their beers. Waited another few minutes and still no sign of mine. Told the server to cancel the order and we left. It has been a long time since I was able to enjoy proper German food. This spot in Eagle makes a heck of a schnitzel. I had the jager schnitzel with a side of spatzle. The schnitzel was nicely cooked and wonderfully seasoned. The mushroom sauce was hearty and flavorful. The spatzle...oh the spatzle. I could have happily had a giant bowl of that spatzle, with no other sauce or toppings. It was light and yummy and so very good. My husband had the beer schnitzel. Again, a nicely cooked and excellently seasoned schnitzel. The dark beer gravy was exceptional. It had one of those flavors that made you close your eyes and thank your chosen deity that you have taste buds. As much as I enjoyed my plate, I couldn't help but to sneak a few more bites of my husbands when he was otherwise occupied with das boot. In addition to our selections, they also have a great selection of wursts and other specialties as well as an awesome selection of German beers on tap. Absolutely an amazing experience! I wan to start with something first timers or repeat visitors will experience which is food not being super hot on arrival. This was a big point of contention for me, where I didn't know to leave a lower or high rating because most reviews are based on food alone. I will say food wasn't at the best tempature at arrival and I was also the first person to arrive. But this is also something you will see as a running theme in most reviews so something i expected prior. It is a small business and I understand things are difficult with limited staff. The sausages are delicious and vary in spice intensity and flavor. The pork shank in gravy is an absolute must try. Add some of the red cabbage and nice warm but mild sauerkraut and that is the bite you are missing in your life. Come hungry, because the portions are extremely generous. The staff are extremely friendly and pleasant, the ambiance is warm and inviting. I don't get to come here often, but when I do I over eat. The food is always cooked to order and has pretty darn authentic flavor. I love the traditional layout of open seating that encourages groups to mingle and visit. I have never had an empty glass or needed to ask for anything no matter how busy it was. This place is awesome! I enjoyed it when I last visited family in Eagle two years ago (I live in Maine) and we ate outside. I've traveled in Bavaria and the Munich area, and the food is as good as I remember it being there, especially the Schnitzels. Yesterday I accompanied my son to get a haircut around the corner and he agreed to meet me at the bar for a beer when he finished. Not knowing they open at 4:30 I got there at 4 to find the door locked, but Lev (spelling ?) welcomed me in most kindly. Mike, the barkeep, recommended a dark draft (don't remember the name) that was delicious, and we had a great conversation. I ordered probably the best pretzel I've ever had, even without considering the melted cheese and ham dip that came with it. This was the third time my wife and I were here. The first time was a great experience with wonderful food and excellent service. The second time was perhaps not as special, but still good. The third visit will very likely be our last visit. We were only one of three tables there at first, and the waitstaff was the worst. They seemed very indifferent, cold and distant. Drink orders were forgotten and we had to flag down the waiter for refills ... every time. While we could look past small issues with waitstaff, there were issues from the kitchen as well. It seemed to take far longer than usual to get our food. While waiting for our food we heard yelling and banging noises from the kitchen. Once we got our food, there were issues with wrong orders and certain side items being out, but not being told upfront. Two of the meals were practically inedible, and other meals were merely tolerated as the quality was quite low. Not one person in our party ate more than half of their food. Even after being told one of the incorrect meals would not be charged for, it still ended up on our bill. The whole time the music we would normally expect to hear in a German restaurant was frequently off as the waiter would turn off the music speaker to answer the phone, and not turn the music back on after the call. We understand that there may be times when a restaurant might have a small and/or temporary issues. However, this night seemed to have far too many issues from all the staff and the food itself. We even had other family members come in for the first time. Needless to say, they were left with a very poor first impression. None of our small group will be returning. We hope that you can improve your food and staff enough to not lose too many customers moving forward. read more

We arrived at around 8 or so. Took. Little bit for our waiter to see us. Only three other tables occupied in the restaurant. We got an appetizer, two meals and a beer. Took a bit to get the beer. Longer than it should have for only three other occupied tables in the dining area. The appetizer was great. The flamebread. Super yummy. I got the gypsy with the sauce on the side. Sauce was really great. My friend liked his pork schnitzel. I had to go up to the bar area and get my water refilled. We didn't get checked on once to see if we needed anything, didn't get asked if we wanted dessert. Another table did right after we gave our money. All together, I probably wouldn't come back here. I love to travel. I was a missionary many years ago. I was also in the military based in England, so I visited several countries including Germany. Right now, I am land locked and US bound, so when I get a chance to experience another country via a restaurant, I jump at the chance. I'm happy to say that The Schnitzel Garden is as close to being in Germany as you will probably get while living here in Idaho. From the outside, it does not look like much. Unless I knew it was German, I would never have known. In my mind I envisioned a Grand Bavarian Castle sitting among the cliffs. Ok, maybe that would be a bit hard to pull off in Eagle Idaho, but I can dream, right? Once I walked inside, I felt like I was actually transported into Germany. The music was German, the decor on the walls looked like Germany, and there were German words everywhere. You won't find any booths here or even ordinary tables. They are picnic benches and are very hard. I turned to my wife and was about to say this was more traditional and normal, until I looked at the bar stools and noticed those were padded. Why do bar people get padding and we do not? I found this to be a puzzling. The trouble with picnic benches is they are dark, so it is not possible to tell if they are clean so this was a bit uncomfortable, but it is probably a more communal and traditional approach to eating. My daughter wanted to know how she was going to read the menu, until I pointed out that there was English as well. For me, I loved the decor. I could not help though to noticed a couple spots that needed attention. I took pics of them and Im posting these here. I definitely recommend these getting attention. They are spoiling an otherwise very good visual experience. My wife had the Chicken Schnitzel as did my daughter. I had the pork as that is what the wait person recommended. While we waited, we had the fire bread. Fired Bread is just a flat bread. We had the onion and bacon on it. The flavor was really good, but the bread itself was flabby. Now I have never had Schnitzel before, but it is basically just meat pounded down until is pretty thin, then lightly battered and fried. So its fried chicken and fried pork. I had the loganberry sauce on mine, which was very good. I was quite surprised that the pork was pretty greasy. The chicken was moderately greasy, but not that bad. When my pork Schnitzel came out I could see the grease on top of it. Both tasted good, but like I said, it is very reminiscent of just fried chicken and fried pork. The only thing that made it different was the sauce. I found the pork to be better than the chicken. It was more moist and tender. The chicken was a little though, but because it is fried longer, it has a nicer crisp and more tasty crust. I am from Texas. We fry everything there. Pretty much you name it, some Texan has figured out how to fry in. I have even fried Milky Way bars before. The trick is to freeze them first, then an egg wash and something crunchy and salty on the outside like crackers. They are delicious. Being an avid fryer from Texas, I know a thing or 2 because I have seen and done a thing or 2. Chicken and Pork that is this thin should not be greasy. Anyone that tells you that it can't be done without being greasy does not know how to fry. Based on my heart rate when I got home from eating here, I'd say the food here must be packed full of salt. So, if you are like me and struggle with high blood pressure, we very careful here. On to dessert. We had the German Cheesecake and the Apple Strudel. German Cheesecake is made without Cream Cheese. It is light and fluffy and way better than its American Cousin. It is made with something called Quark. I know, right? When I hear of Quark, I think of a star and the Big Bang. Fortunately, it taste way better than it sounds. I had to look this up, because I have never heard of it. According to Google its a curd made by souring milk. The process sounds like how Mozzarella is made. The texture is a bit like Cottage Cheese. It was soooooo good. This was the highlight of my meal by a landslide. I highly recommend anyone that has not had this to come try it. The Apple Strudel on the other hand was not that great. I like my apples soft, but these were still a bit tough. There were raisins in the Strudel as well, but for me, there was nowhere near enough. For me, it needed a little cinnamon, or something else to get it some extra favor. The main thing to point out here is the price. There are 3 in my family. We only had water to drink. We had 3 Schnitzels, 1 appetizer, and 2 deserts. This came to a whopping $100! I was super excited to get to try this place. We came in waited a couple minutes, looked around didn't see any signs saying "wait to be seated" so we found a seat in the corner to respect distancing with others. The 6 six year old we had with us, friends daughter, completed an entire coloring sheet as we waited twenty minutes. She helped herself to the coloring sheet and crayons after the first five minutes of waiting since they were right behind the bench we were at. Another couple came in got seated and given menus. The two waitresses walked past us several times, never even acknowledged us with so much as a, "I'll be right with you". We got up and left... never got to try anything out or see what they had to offer since we never saw a menu. The positive: great atmosphere, the couple playing live music was great. But to not even acknowledge us after 20 minutes and walking past us several times... is completely unacceptable.
