I stopped at the Royal Blue on a Saturday night and the place was absolutely hopping, but we were seated right away, which was a great start. The vibe is super cute, and I have to give a special shoutout to the bathrooms, the color-coordinated sinks and toilets are such a fun, unexpected touch. Service was quick and efficient, and our food came out almost immediately. The fries were definitely a highlight. I ordered the smashburger, which was good overall, but very messy and easily one of the wettest burgers I've ever had. Not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe not the best choice for a first date. Came here on a Saturday night and was surprised with how popular it is! I ordered a Oaxacan Colada, which was bright blue and tasted like a candle. I was pretty disappointed, especially as someone who usually loves a pina colada. After that, I checked out the dance floor. I loved the lighting in that area, but it was outrageously hot. I could only dance for about 10 minutes at a time before needing a break outside for some fresh air. Most of my experience here was spent outside on their patio area out front because it was just so hot and crowded inside. Came here on the recommendation of a friend's friend of a friend! The owner, Jimmy, along with all of his staff were super attentive and kind. It's a bar with enough space for regular eating at tables or at the bar top, and has an older vibe to it. I love the cute area in the back with a separate bar and DJ space for the weekends, plus the lounge area to hang out. I ordered a smashburger that came with two patties, bacon, lettuce, onions and fries - the fries were on the well done side/crispy and were excellently salted. The sauce on the burger was insane! The mac and cheese I ordered on a whim to try as a shared appetizer, and it was truly a highlight. Loooove that they used cavatappi, since it worked perfectly with the cheese and seasonings. We ordered a starter of the Mac and Cheese and it was incredible! The pasta held the cheese sauce so well and got creamier as you dug Into the bowl. My Chicken Caesar wrap featured shaved parm and fresh kale and was a great balance of light flavors to contrast with the fries, mac and smash burger my wife ordered. They've got quite a line up in terms of entertainment because I enjoyed Bingo/Trivia Nights, seen ads for Comedy Nights and on the weekends...BoyOhBoy! Hold on. After the bar, you'll pass their lounge area where you can sit and chat with your pals. Then you can stand at a little balcony and look down onto the discotheque. Yes you heard right, at the back is a dancefloor! A whole space for dancing! Yippee! It's on a lower level with about four or five stairs leading to it. Strobe lights and disco balls included okay! I've heard DJ Beast plays here and I'm certainly excited to catch him next session! Now for the food! HELLO! They do not serve "bar bites" or "bar food". The food served here can rival any big named, big brand restaurant any day! Very cool bar vibes, with nice artwork over the place, with one end of the restaurant/bar a dance floor? Lots of vegan options here so my boyfriend got their vegan cheesesteak and I got their smash burger minus the bacon. Both came with ample servings of fries within 10 minutes of us ordering. The burger was greasy and juicy in all the right ways (the bottom bun did fall apart pretty quick.) The fries were thick cut and perfectly seasoned. My bf enjoyed his vegan cheesesteak a lot as well. Wish they did have at least a couple more options for a dessert... I know it's a bar but still. The royal blue kept coming up on multiple list saying they had one of the best smash burgers in town. Well today was the day that I messed around and found out. The establishment is just your typical bar to say the least but I can honestly say I got pretty good service while chilling on a bar stool. Lots of beers on tap which if I were dining in, would have paired well with the burger. Let's get into the burger itself. The meat was juicy and actually seasoned. The sesame seed bun it was served on was nice and soft. The hand cut fries were nice and hot. The cheese was melted perfectly and there was just enough sauce although I like to dip in ketchup before every bite. Big back behavior at its finest. The meal cost me 25 bucks. Money well spent. Very popular hipster joint. Stylish but staff can be a bit rude. I ordered and paid for my pricey cocktail and went to find a seat. Several tables have reservation signs. I find a small table that does not. I get out my sketchbook and pens and am happily at my work when a waitstaff person comes over to tell me I can't sit there because it's reserved for dinner and meant for two people. I pack up my stuff and go to sit alone in the dimly lit lounge, where I am allowed to be. It is too dark to see my pages without great eye strain so I down my drink and call it a night. Great local dive with fun vibes in Baltimore! We came here from out of town to kill time before a show at the Ottobar, and were happy that they let us hang out and enjoy some good food and drinks for a few hours. The food was awesome (including my Greektown salad), and a highlight were the fish and chips. The fries really are delicious. I enjoyed a fizzy frose, which was a little too sweet for my taste, but most rose lovers I know would adore it. The staff were great as well--a good balance of friendly and attentive but not coming by the table too often. The one real downside to mention is that the bathroom didn't lock. read more

I came by Royal Blue during the day for lunch after craving the kale salad and the tots. They've added some more things to the menu included hummus, curry, and salmon. I added chicken to the kale salad this time and it was a very generous portion of juicy, well seasoned grilled chicken. Super filling and yummy! What I love about the food here is that is relatively cheap and always consistent. I know exactly what I'm getting every time. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich with fries and mac and cheese. Everything was great! I think we both agreed we liked the tots more than the fries, but I guess that is more of a personal preference. I'll also add that I tried their espresso martini on draft on a separate visit. It's probably one of the worst espresso martinis I've ever had but it does make for a great shot. read more

So it was pure liquor and did what it was supposed to do in its cute 1950s champagne /punch glass . The Korean Bang bang fried chicken sandwich is a serious WOW MOMENT. It had a HUGE piece of perfectly juicy-marinated, perfectly breaded & fried white meat. The korean style bbq sauce was also on point. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. The truffle tots were good and crunchy and not greasy, but i was underwhelmed by any alleged truffleness which i couldn't detect. Usually truffle flavors are very strong for me so i'm not sure what happened- maybe they accidentally gave me regular tots. I actually liked the extra crunchiness better the next day in my air fryer. The pretzel doughnuts were fun , the sugar cinnamon glaze was on point. The ambience was perfectly retro Baltimore nostalgia without looking forced.
