Hands down: best comfort food in Baltimore. The icing on the cake: the staff. Great nosh, great drinks. Doesn't get better than Royal. Open late for dancing! Close to The Charles Theater and Metro Gallery and also the Lyric! read more

Out of this world nightlife and hospitality. Some bartenders we met from another spot recommended this spot and I'm happy we went. Boiler makers or as we call the north "City wides" were very reasonably priced so indulged (a lot). The staff were great to chat with in between drinks. Friendly, kind, with positive energy. Also loved the sign "Don't Be an A**hole" The people were equally as awesome. Variety of backgrounds coming together for dancing, good music and fun. Talkative and friendly. Can't wait to come back. read more

I'll be honest, for many years, I really didn't understand why everyone loves smash burgers. Every one I'd had was basically just a regular hamburger, just misshapen and somehow extra dry. I'd given up on it as a menu item, holding back a roll of my eyes anytime someone would order it--"but why???" I'd ask myself. If you find yourself nodding your head along, keep reading, because what I'm about to tell you will change your life: THE ROYAL BLUE IS HOW YOU DO SMASH BURGERS. I'd heard of The Royal Blue and happened to find myself right in their neighborhood with some friends and we were in need of dinner plans. Oh my gosh, game changer. We've since been back multiple times, bringing new friends with each round, waiting with bated breath to hear them inevitably conclude that this is the best smash burger they've ever had. Flavorful. So thin. CRISPY EDGES. Great bun. Ahhhhh. Just superb. Don't give up on smash burgers until you try this one--you'll be missing out on a world of deliciousness otherwise! read more

They had really cute rooms aesthetically pleasing picture worthy! The food was delicious and so was the drink. The waitress was very pleasant as well. When I am in the area I'd definitely head back. read more

I stopped at the Royal Blue on a Saturday night and the place was absolutely hopping, but we were seated right away, which was a great start. The vibe is super cute, and I have to give a special shoutout to the bathrooms, the color-coordinated sinks and toilets are such a fun, unexpected touch. Service was quick and efficient, and our food came out almost immediately. The fries were definitely a highlight. I ordered the smashburger, which was good overall, but very messy and easily one of the wettest burgers I've ever had. Not necessarily a bad thing, but maybe not the best choice for a first date. I also felt like the bacon didn't really add much and could've been skipped. Overall, a solid spot with a great atmosphere and quick service! read more

Came here on the recommendation of a friend's friend of a friend! The owner, Jimmy, along with all of his staff were super attentive and kind. It's a bar with enough space for regular eating at tables or at the bar top, and has an older vibe to it. I love the cute area in the back with a separate bar and DJ space for the weekends, plus the lounge area to hang out. I ordered a smashburger that came with two patties, bacon, lettuce, onions and fries - the fries were on the well done side/crispy and were excellently salted. The sauce on the burger was insane! The mac and cheese I ordered on a whim to try as a shared appetizer, and it was truly a highlight. Loooove that they used cavatappi, since it worked perfectly with the cheese and seasonings. Tried a sip of my husband's frozen rosé - beware! This tasted like juice (in a good way) so you could easily down several of these and not notice. What a great local spot! read more

Incredible food, amazing vibes at the bar, dining area and dance floor and really spectacular service all around. The frozen Rose' drink was delicious but dangerous, as it marvelously disguised the alcohol. Really refreshing and the small was the perfect size. We ordered a starter of the Mac and Cheese and it was incredible! The pasta held the cheese sauce so well and got creamier as you dug Into the bowl. My Chicken Caesar wrap featured shaved parm and fresh kale and was a great balance of light flavors to contrast with the fries, mac and smash burger my wife ordered. Overall, a perfect spot that is affordable and fun. We stopped by for a Friday lunch, but would definitely want to come back for the DJ nights. read more

We wanted a quick bite after a conference day and was in the mood for a burger. I've never heard of The Royal Blue before, but they didn't disappoint. The food came out fast and Portia was a great server. We got there around 4 and I would say it started to get really busy around 5:30ish. It still wasn't too loud or anything though. The space reminded me of a dive bar, but a bit cleaner. It was queer friendly which was nice too! read more

Each time I visit The Royal Blue I'm served by a different staff member. Each time my visit is muy buena! There are three members of staff I really like. The one with short curly hair who is extremely knowledgeable and friendly is Joseph, make sure and ask for Joseph for an amazing time! Matt is also a strong fave of mine. He does his job quietly but always rushes to your assistance whenever you need it. Then there's the short-ish lady with medium to long hair who also serves and bartends. I'll have to get her name next visit and edit my review because exceptional service needs to be recognized. TRB gives off an artsy vibe. They've kept murals from past owners and all the art, knick knacks and little artifacts around coupled with their patrons, lends to this feel. Patrons from all walks of life meet and become friends here. They've got quite a line up in terms of entertainment because I enjoyed Bingo/Trivia Nights, seen ads for Comedy Nights and on the weekends...BoyOhBoy! Hold on. After the bar, you'll pass their lounge area where you can sit and chat with your pals. Then you can stand at a little balcony and look down onto the discotheque. Yes you heard right, at the back is a dancefloor! A whole space for dancing! Yippee! It's on a lower level with about four or five stairs leading to it. Strobe lights and disco balls included okay! I've heard DJ Beast plays here and I'm certainly excited to catch him next session! Now for the food! HELLO! They do not serve "bar bites" or "bar food". The food served here can rival any big named, big brand restaurant any day! Their Chef is really really good and we've come to look forward to their weekly specials as no disappointment has ever been had here. Portions huge, menu quite extensive for a bar and there's a dish for everyone. I'm not totally sold on their cocktails. Yet. In and outdoor dinning especially for summer lovers. What's not to love about The Royal Blue? Are you CrayCray? The End. read more

I ordered the Brussel sprouts and vegan Mac n cheese. Brussel sprouts: 10 STARS!!! They were delicious... extra sauce, large portions, loved it! Vegan Mac n cheese: 3.5 stars... It was good, but didn't wow me. Portion was small. Service: 3 stars... I sat at the bar. The bartenders weren't friendly and seemed unhappy to be working. I would like to give them 2 stars because they really were not good... but I usually only give that low of a rating if something went wrong. Comedy show: 3 stars because it was free... seating is limited. The temperature is cold in the comedy area. Parking: street metered parking... Free after a certain time It looks outdated on the inside. Small place read more

Came here on a Saturday night and was surprised with how popular it is! I ordered a Oaxacan Colada, which was bright blue and tasted like a candle. I was pretty disappointed, especially as someone who usually loves a pina colada. After that, I checked out the dance floor. I loved the lighting in that area, but it was outrageously hot. I could only dance for about 10 minutes at a time before needing a break outside for some fresh air. Most of my experience here was spent outside on their patio area out front because it was just so hot and crowded inside. I would love to check out this spot again and try a different (hopefully better) craft cocktail. read more

The food is delicious. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries. The wait time to be seated was about 20 min during the dinner rush. The interior design is uniquely decorated even though the main seating area gives a neighborhood bar feel. We will be back! read more

We stopped in here before a movie at Charles Street Theater for a quick bite to eat for dinner. Very cool bar vibes, with nice artwork over the place, with one end of the restaurant/bar a dance floor? Lots of vegan options here so my boyfriend got their vegan cheesesteak and I got their smash burger minus the bacon. Both came with ample servings of fries within 10 minutes of us ordering. The burger was greasy and juicy in all the right ways (the bottom bun did fall apart pretty quick.) The fries were thick cut and perfectly seasoned. My bf enjoyed his vegan cheesesteak a lot as well. Wish they did have at least a couple more options for a dessert... I know it's a bar but still. Would definitely stop by here if in the area again and highly recommend it if you're craving something that'll stick to your bones. read more

Look at the spread we had! I went for a work lunch and found this little gem which is going to be my new fav spot for a cheat meal. It's kinda dive bar ish, but in the best way possible. All the rumors about their smash burgers are true! 1000/10 - it's the best burger I've had in my life. The Brussels sprouts & kale salad were also amazing. Because I'm "dieting" I didn't get to try everything I wanted but all my coworkers were very pleased. I'll definitely be back [a bunch of times]. I can't wait to see what their dance floor is like. read more

The royal blue kept coming up on multiple list saying they had one of the best smash burgers in town. Well today was the day that I messed around and found out. The establishment is just your typical bar to say the least but I can honestly say I got pretty good service while chilling on a bar stool. Lots of beers on tap which if I were dining in, would have paired well with the burger. Let's get into the burger itself. The meat was juicy and actually seasoned. The sesame seed bun it was served on was nice and soft. The hand cut fries were nice and hot. The cheese was melted perfectly and there was just enough sauce although I like to dip in ketchup before every bite. Big back behavior at its finest. The meal cost me 25 bucks. Money well spent. I'll be going back to try the steak next time. Very good burger 8 out of 10. Highly recommend. read more

My partner and I wanted to have a drink at Royal Blue, where I'm a semi-regular lunch patron. We were greeted very coldly at the door and basically were not welcomed. We later remarked that we are "not the target audience" Even though I think I'm young and hip, I guess we looked "old" and "uncool". Onward to Tapas Teatro where we were warmly greeted by the owner, Helmand and told him our crazy story. Meanwhile the good folks at Tapas Teatro earned our old people $$$$. I don't understand the concept of driving customers away in this economy. Oh well, you've now lost a group of coworkers that have a monthly lunch at your establishment. read more

Very popular hipster joint. Stylish but staff can be a bit rude. I ordered and paid for my pricey cocktail and went to find a seat. Several tables have reservation signs. I find a small table that does not. I get out my sketchbook and pens and am happily at my work when a waitstaff person comes over to tell me I can't sit there because it's reserved for dinner and meant for two people. I pack up my stuff and go to sit alone in the dimly lit lounge, where I am allowed to be. It is too dark to see my pages without great eye strain so I down my drink and call it a night. Maybe put "reserved" signs at ALL tables you do not want solo paying patrons sitting at. read more

I've never had a salmon chowder before, but I thought their salmon chowder was really good! I ordered their small and it was fulfilling enough. I also got their small frozen pina colada, which was good, but just a tiny bit too strong for me. I still finished it though! Parking is really tight here so I recommend either carpooling or taking Uber. read more

Besides being a popular nightclub--a great afternoon lunch spot before a matinee movie at The Charles! Sit at the bar or a table.

I can't say a single bad thing about The Royal Blue. It's a bar, it's a restaurant, and after hours it's a dance party. The food is good, the frose is great, the bathrooms are clean, and the bartenders are delightful. I've even bought art right off of the walls before. You should visit. read more

Great local dive with fun vibes in Baltimore! We came here from out of town to kill time before a show at the Ottobar, and were happy that they let us hang out and enjoy some good food and drinks for a few hours. The food was awesome (including my Greektown salad), and a highlight were the fish and chips. The fries really are delicious. I enjoyed a fizzy frose, which was a little too sweet for my taste, but most rose lovers I know would adore it. The staff were great as well--a good balance of friendly and attentive but not coming by the table too often. The one real downside to mention is that the bathroom didn't lock. read more

This is a classic Baltimore dive bar. The crowd was a nice mix of people. The service was very friendly, though the staff were a little over stretched. I came by Royal Blue during the day for lunch after craving the kale salad and the tots. They've added some more things to the menu included hummus, curry, and salmon. I added chicken to the kale salad this time and it was a very generous portion of juicy, well seasoned grilled chicken. Super filling and yummy! What I love about the food here is that is relatively cheap and always consistent. I know exactly what I'm getting every time. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich with fries and mac and cheese. Everything was great! I think we both agreed we liked the tots more than the fries, but I guess that is more of a personal preference. I'll also add that I tried their espresso martini on draft on a separate visit. It's probably one of the worst espresso martinis I've ever had but it does make for a great shot. read more

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in Baltimore to grab a bite to eat and a delicious drink. The vibe here is way too fun and I love the decorations as well as the details that the restaurant is taken to make sure you really enjoy your visit. The menu isn't expensive but it really offers all of the best options. On this visit I had the Greek salad topped with shrimp salad and really enjoyed it. The salad is very fresh and the shrimp salad has a lot of flavor and I really liked how much spice it had. The old fashioned was also, pretty stellar. The Royal Blue - a glass of whiskey with a cinnamon stick - Cheesesteaks Near Me - Baltimore, Maryland

I had a great time. The servers and bar staff were all so accommodating and unassuming I felt right at home, and everything came out super fast. This place would be one of my regular haunts if I lived in Bmore. My coffee mezcal "breakfast" cocktail was smooth and had no ice, but was chilled just the way I prefer. So it was pure liquor and did what it was supposed to do in its cute 1950s champagne /punch glass . The Korean Bang bang fried chicken sandwich is a serious WOW MOMENT. It had a HUGE piece of perfectly juicy-marinated, perfectly breaded & fried white meat. The korean style bbq sauce was also on point. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again. The truffle tots were good and crunchy and not greasy, but i was underwhelmed by any alleged truffleness which i couldn't detect. Usually truffle flavors are very strong for me so i'm not sure what happened- maybe they accidentally gave me regular tots. I actually liked the extra crunchiness better the next day in my air fryer. The pretzel doughnuts were fun , the sugar cinnamon glaze was on point. The ambience was perfectly retro Baltimore nostalgia without looking forced. And the guy that came in to run bingo had such a corny radio voice it was amusing. I appreciated the inclusive social aspect! read more
