The vibe is super cute, and I have to give a special shoutout to the bathrooms, the color-coordinated sinks and toilets are such a fun, unexpected touch. Came here on the recommendation of a friend's friend of a friend! The owner, Jimmy, along with all of his staff were super attentive and kind. It's a bar with enough space for regular eating at tables or at the bar top, and has an older vibe to it. I love the cute area in the back with a separate bar and DJ space for the weekends, plus the lounge area to hang out. I ordered a smashburger that came with two patties, bacon, lettuce, onions and fries - the fries were on the well done side/crispy and were excellently salted. The sauce on the burger was insane! The mac and cheese I ordered on a whim to try as a shared appetizer, and it was truly a highlight. Loooove that they used cavatappi, since it worked perfectly with the cheese and seasonings. The frozen Rose' drink was delicious but dangerous, as it marvelously disguised the alcohol. Really refreshing and the small was the perfect size. We ordered a starter of the Mac and Cheese and it was incredible! The pasta held the cheese sauce so well and got creamier as you dug Into the bowl. My Chicken Caesar wrap featured shaved parm and fresh kale and was a great balance of light flavors to contrast with the fries, mac and smash burger my wife ordered. I could only dance for about 10 minutes at a time before needing a break outside for some fresh air. Each time I visit The Royal Blue I'm served by a different staff member. Each time my visit is muy buena! There are three members of staff I really like. The one with short curly hair who is extremely knowledgeable and friendly is Joseph, make sure and ask for Joseph for an amazing time! Matt is also a strong fave of mine. He does his job quietly but always rushes to your assistance whenever you need it. Then there's the short-ish lady with medium to long hair who also serves and bartends. They've kept murals from past owners and all the art, knick knacks and little artifacts around coupled with their patrons, lends to this feel. Patrons from all walks of life meet and become friends here. They've got quite a line up in terms of entertainment because I enjoyed Bingo/Trivia Nights, seen ads for Comedy Nights and on the weekends...BoyOhBoy! Hold on. After the bar, you'll pass their lounge area where you can sit and chat with your pals. Then you can stand at a little balcony and look down onto the discotheque. Yes you heard right, at the back is a dancefloor! A whole space for dancing! Yippee! It's on a lower level with about four or five stairs leading to it. Strobe lights and disco balls included okay! The royal blue kept coming up on multiple list saying they had one of the best smash burgers in town. Well today was the day that I messed around and found out. The establishment is just your typical bar to say the least but I can honestly say I got pretty good service while chilling on a bar stool. Lots of beers on tap which if I were dining in, would have paired well with the burger. Let's get into the burger itself. The meat was juicy and actually seasoned. The sesame seed bun it was served on was nice and soft. The hand cut fries were nice and hot. The cheese was melted perfectly and there was just enough sauce although I like to dip in ketchup before every bite. Big back behavior at its finest. The meal cost me 25 bucks. Money well spent. I find a small table that does not. I get out my sketchbook and pens and am happily at my work when a waitstaff person comes over to tell me I can't sit there because it's reserved for dinner and meant for two people. I pack up my stuff and go to sit alone in the dimly lit lounge, where I am allowed to be. It is too dark to see my pages without great eye strain so I down my drink and call it a night. Great local dive with fun vibes in Baltimore! We came here from out of town to kill time before a show at the Ottobar, and were happy that they let us hang out and enjoy some good food and drinks for a few hours. The food was awesome (including my Greektown salad), and a highlight were the fish and chips. The fries really are delicious. I enjoyed a fizzy frose, which was a little too sweet for my taste, but most rose lovers I know would adore it. I came by Royal Blue during the day for lunch after craving the kale salad and the tots. They've added some more things to the menu included hummus, curry, and salmon. I added chicken to the kale salad this time and it was a very generous portion of juicy, well seasoned grilled chicken. Super filling and yummy! What I love about the food here is that is relatively cheap and always consistent. I know exactly what I'm getting every time. My boyfriend got the chicken sandwich with fries and mac and cheese. Everything was great! I think we both agreed we liked the tots more than the fries, but I guess that is more of a personal preference. The truffle tots were good and crunchy and not greasy, but i was underwhelmed by any alleged truffleness which i couldn't detect. Usually truffle flavors are very strong for me so i'm not sure what happened- maybe they accidentally gave me regular tots. I actually liked the extra crunchiness better the next day in my air fryer.
