This historic venue sits alongside other famous spots on Sunset known for live concerts and acts. Valet parking is available less than a block away for $20, but my friend and I decided on street parking for $2/hr. Comes with the added modern convenience of paying online as needed. We arrived about 10 minutes before the 8:30pm start time, so the line had steadily been moving in. Dimly lit space, crowded floors, restrooms on the left, merchandise for sale on the right, and a bar serving drinks at the back. A few nights ago, Joanna Wang held a concert here, the fourth stop of her North American tour. The show started right on the dot with no opening acts which was much appreciated. The first set ran through her latest album, "Hotel la Rut" which combined productions of strange, disturbing, moody unpredicability with moments of seemingly whimsical levity and repressed emotions. One after the other, it felt like listening to tracks of a musical. As is often stated comparing to the studio recordings, the live performances added charm and context to the machinations of her mind's inner workings. It helped that the sound quality here was remarkably vibrant, with the band going between genres seamlessly. Personally enjoyed "Pigeons on Your Balcony", "People Don't Eat Dinner by Themselves", and "Ragged Stairs to Heaven". Promptly afterwards, the second set contained a selection of past songs from her almost two decade long career, ranging from creative compositions to inventive covers. It was a full-on display of her vocal range and inspirations through the years. Some memorable ones included "Alice in Wonderland", "親密愛人", "Radio Killed the Radio Star", and "Simply Nothing You Can Do", with "Vincent" as her encore performance. It was a good time, as I found myself smiling at her showmanship going from soulful nostalgia to nutty, irrepressible energy. Here's hoping she performs around here more often. read more

I went to see Shonen Knife there a few days ago and while I felt it was a great place to see your favorite band. Security was thorough and efficient, but not a-holes and no review of food as I could see none. Parking was available for a price in the area depending on how far you wanted to walk. No real threatening people on the street I could see. My only complaint, the band was OG Japan punk power trio from way back and I felt the venue kinda dicked em around perhaps because they were women. They seemed to get pushed out early and mentioned the place was closing early. That was all differing from what appeared to be scheduled. It was good music, good sight lines, not too hot, but the way it panned out left me a bit cold. read more

Caught Sarah and the Sundays here and the whole experience was incredible. The sound quality was crisp, the vibes were perfect, and the energy in the room was unreal. The venue itself is intimate in the best way--you feel super close to the band no matter where you're standing. Staff was chill, everything ran smoothly, and the crowd was great. Went for a Ken the Man concert on a Sunday night and had a timeeeeee! Ticketing process was quick as we picked up at the window. They checked my ID, matched my name and ran me my tickets. Security was also quick and efficient. They check bags and have you go through a metal detector. We arrived a little before Ken went on stage so it was already busy in there. We made our way to the VIP section and I love that it wasn't completely packed out and we had breathing room. There were booths around but we decided to stand the entire time. Had a great view and the venue isn't too too big. They offer food and alcohol in case you want grab a bite before the show, or during (whatever's clever). read more

I bought tickets to see G-Flip. Amazing show. Super talented performer. Drums based guitar singing I was impressed and they had a broken arm!!! I was on a cleanse and not drinking so that's always interesting when you're out with people, but I went by myself. Happy to see that they had a selection of a few nonalcoholic beers so I could feel like I fit in Heineken zero is actually really good. There's just no buzz, but you're drinking beer... Anyhow, the sound is great. I mean listen...the Roxy has been around forever and the Adlers aren't gonna change anything anytime soon and they shouldn't because if it ain't broke, you don't fix it... Never eaten here seeing a few concerts here spent many nights at guest parties upstairs after our stuff... But it's an intimate venue you know I can't believe that holds more than 1000 people and such a nice way to see somebody that you really like up close personal, you know all all of the Venues up and down Sunset strip by room, Trubador, whiskey a go-go... have a real kind of intimate vibe. RIP House of Blues. My favorite thing about the Roxy is the upstairs joint called on the Rox. Like the name is so fitting and it's just such a cute idea... As a native Californian I've spent a lot of time in both of those places and almost every place you can imagine up and down sunset strip since I was about 14 but there's something about this venue that's nostalgic yet fresh and new because they always have fresh and interesting acts...sometimes people that you don't think that you would see show up there and surprise you ... We went to see Fazerdaze, with opening artist Alisa Xayalith, both touring from New Zealand. Appreciative audience, good energy, a fun evening all around. It's The Roxy! It is what it is.....consistent. Old, worn out, a little smelly, beat bathrooms, hot, and it's one of those places that makes you wonder: "if these walls could talk." So, if you've experienced a live show on Sunset Blvd at The Roxy; DO IT. Get it out of your system. Stiffs drinks, good beer, and yes, they serve wine. I saw Kate Hudson here last night. Once upon a time I came here to see Ashley Simpson. The place is the same...... My server was cool. No one who works here seems to have a crap attitude; considering is West Hollywood. I've been to the Roxy a bunch of times over the last 20 years, mostly during my college days, but not much has changed over the years. Small intimate layout- place can pack 400-500 standing room. They have one bar with $12/drink Ave. Limited (bar) food: fries, chicken tenders, cheeseburger, impossible burger, cheese pizza & fried mozzarella, $15-$20/item. We ordered fries and chicken tenders. Fries were cold and tenders were popping. Looks like they bring out multiple trays of fries, every now and then, and they just sit at the bar until someone orders them. Chicken tenders were made to order and those were ok, but tasted really good after a few drinks lol. Vip area is a lot of fun, you either can reserve a table, booth or standing room and is tight, $150-$250 (plus show tix). Really convenient and comfy to have your own spot to come back and forth to for the night, with a nice eye level view of stage. We did a meet a great last night, totally worth it if you a big fan of the artist(s)- got to take pics with artist, get some shit signed and first dibs on the merch, also got some free swag. The event coordinator of Roxy, wearing the pinch front cowboy hat, was really nice and made things flow for us, wish I got his name, but kudos to him. Parking is $20 here, parking structure across the street is $23 max and lot next to structure is also $20. Still buzzing from last night, had such a great time! read more

He was very organized and had great communications skills, especially to those of us who purchased the 2k VIP package. This is by far the worst venue I've ever seen a show at. I was using my personal phone to film some of the show I attended and a drunk couple of idiots got in front of me while intentionally waving their hands in front of my camera like a bunch of assholes to ruin the footage and to try to knock the camera out of my hand. , I was standing in the very front of the stage prior to these idiots coming up and ruining my evening. Then add insult to injury my husband got escorted out by a security guard when the other party was drunk and belligerent that should've been escorted out of the building instead which was absolutely absurd, I have video footage of what occurred and I tried reaching out to the venue the next day to speak to a manager. No one from the venue has contacted me back. I will never go back to this venue ever again! It was the lamest venue I've ever gone to see a show. read more

Groundbreaking history makes this theater special. Way before he was Neil Old, Neil Young opened the theater in 1973. A few years later Marley recorded Live at the Roxy there, though, let's be real, it wouldn't have made sense to record Live at The Roxy anywhere else. It hosted the original U.S. run of Rocky Horror and the first Pee Wee Herman show. Celebs like Lennon and Nicholson hung out there- I saw Colin Farrell the last time I was there. He was in crutches. The venue is a nice standing only intimate place to see your favorite performers. I was impressed with the security line out front, as we didn't have to stand in some crazy long line with our ticket to wait to get inside. They were all pleasant as well. Typically, at these smaller venues you will get the "NEXT IN LINE" type of attitude. I was there to see Davido, and even though it was standing only people were very respectful too. Even the tall people moved aside so my 5'3 self could see the better. It was really a great night. The sound sometimes in small venues can be crappy but it wasn't here. All the songs sounded awesome! Sorry I didn't have any drinks, cause frankly I was in a jumpsuit (ladies, y'all know how much of a pain that could be) The parking: WARNING, the parking is up top above the venue. Although convenient walking up or down the driveway in heels is not the easiest. I KNEW I wanted to dance, so I wore sneakers, and it was a calculated walk for me too. I am writing this on my way home. This is a wonderful intimate venue with the capacity to fit 500 people. That being said, it can get very hot. I highly recommend wearing very light clothing because even with the AC on, its still extremely hot. but there is a bar in the back and if you ask the bartender for a cup of water, she'll give you a nice cup of ice water for free. It was a nice respite from the heat. I also recommend going to the bathroom before entering. They only have 2 rest room stalls in the little restroom for women and it gets cramped. But apart from that, you can get a wonderful view of the band from anywhere you stand. The sound quality was epic, and the band performing was incredible. Highly recommend going if you get the chance, but keep this in mind Oh and get an uber, parking is terrible. read more

Fantastic venue - big enough for a sizable party but small enough that you can enjoy the performances close up! Came to a special event here and had a great time. You can see the stage from any seat in the house. Staff was courteous and attentive. Parking is a problem. Most close by lots charge $20; there are meter parking spaces on the street but they are hard to find! Waiting in line can take a while too. Security was tight. You may want to come early. It's the iconic Roxy, and that alone makes it cool. Yes, it's small. Yes, it's warm/hot inside. Yes, it's kinda funky... But it's THE Roxy! During my recent visit, I found parking across the street for $20 easy, the staff efficient and the facilities fine. In all, nothing particularly noteworthy good or bad. However, being close to the stage in this small venue was awesome! And the sound was thunderous - BIG sound for a small place. A few $15 24 ounce Sierra Nevada brews and I was off to the races. 4 stars for The Roxy, what a night! read more

If you can get past parking in Hollywood, you're golden. I paid $20 to park in the next lot over. Roxy also has a $20 lot. It's a small, intimate (read: hot) theater which imo somehow adds to the indie music vibes. If you're worried about catching a cold or the flu, you should stay out of the crowd. A good choice might be to stand by the bar which is next to the entrance. Bonus: direct access to an emergency exit. There are three emergency exits btw, which you'll notice if you're the anxious type like me. Drinks are going to be expensive. It's a concert venue after all. At least they make them strong :) Had a great time here two nights in a row and recommend visit here to watch your favorite rising star. read more

I've been to the Roxy twice now and it has the throne for my least liked venue. If you think "small venue," there are some pros that come with that - fairly quick security - good views of the stage regardless of where you are - intimate setting to feel closer with the artist Well, you will potentially get none of this at the Roxy. Both shows I attended, the Roxy couldn't get everyone in (people who showed up on time, mind you) before the show started so a good amount of people missed beginning of the show. They have one metal detector and one bag checker so... even with a capacity of just 500, they're doing those 500 one. At. A. Time. Speaking of capacity, I want to know where that 500 entails. Both shows I attended were sold out. Most recently, a portion of the venue appeared to be closed off for VIP- maybe like 20 attendees and additional 5-10 staff seemed to be in that area that was wide open in the back. That leaves like 470 people for what looks like 3/4 of the venue. Staff are constantly yelling at you to move or squish in so they can clear a walkway which is fair- it's a safety hazard to not have one. BUT squishing in feels unsafe so if you MOVE you can end up like... in the hallway in front of the entrance where you get no view of the stage... and ofc if you're that far, there is no intimacy with the artist. You would get some fresh air though! And that's something that's sorely missing from the main venue area. I know we have to sound proof but that's the hottest, mustiest, sweatiest, least ventilated venue I've ever been to so plan accordingly. There were signs for $20 parking which would be its only plus but I'm sure it's super limited so I don't know how great a perk that is. All in all, probably not a bad place if the show isn't sold out. But if an artist I didn't LOVE played at the Roxy, the venue it self would make me reconsider attending. read more

This venue has some of the rudest staff I have ever experienced at venues. Went to support my friends band and upon entering security was strict and made me throw away my vape because I didn't have my ID on me. I wasn't planning on buying alcohol so I left my ID in the car. Security was mean about it and said I was holding up the line despite me coming an hour late and there being no line. Parking behind the venue is tight and very limited. The venue itself inside is pretty nice but that experience with security being overly rude overshadowed the event despite the bands all being incredible. I have never had security at any other venues need to see an ID for my own belongings, it just felt unnecessary for security to make me either trash my vape or not be allowed in. read more

Hm. What to say. If there is someone you'd like to see and totally love, it's small. Probably houses 300 people or so. The bottled water was maybe $4 or something like that which is reasonable at a venue and for one who isn't drinking. The bathrooms were clean when I used them ahead of the show. It to me, is a decent small local venue. I flew in for a show. I wasn't a fan of the opening Dj chick. I felt she got way more stage time that necessary and may have helped pumped the show up if she had an hour but it was way too long. AAgain, it's tough to review because I'm uncertain as to how much was the venue and how much were the artists. Seemed a bit of a clusterf***, if I'm being honest. I was also right up against the stage which might be why the sound wasn't all that great from where I was standing. I did not like the inhalation of everyone's supply that was around me. Sober lady here, and the smell reminded me of some back alley 1990 reefer off some brick. Bleck. That could have maybe been monitored a but, but come on, California, I guess. I was also bummed when I approached the merchant booth stockers couldn't be purchased on their own but with purchase only. Again, not sure if that was a venue thing or artist thing. Although, I'd have likely bought Roxy stickers for $3-5 just for the experience and memorabilia but nope they just wanted my water purchase I guess. Lastly, I said, I flew in. So when the show abruptly ended at exactly midnight, my ride was about an hour out. Staff was adamant about "get out", I did my best to kind of blend in for as long as I could until I was pushed all the way out. I was by myself and I wasn't entirely thrilled at the idea of sitting out alone on the streets of LA lol fortunately, I really do a good job of blending right in, to backgrounds, stairways, appearing as a part of a group until they're gone. It was late, no traffic and my ride arrived about 30 minutes early. Thank goodness. Would I go back? Only if there was someone I absolutely had to see and couldn't live without seeing and it was the last/only show or something like that. I managed to catch the same group where I am in a lot in the back of an establishment a couple weeks later and the sound was crisp and clear comparatively. read more

Went to see Black Smurf and IdontknowJeffrey at the iconic Roxy! The good: Workers were all very nice! Scanned my ticket quickly and I was in. Bartender made my drink strong and was also chill. I was right next to the stage and the sound was great! Bathrooms were surprisingly really clean as well. The bad: $4 for a water??????? It was so hot in there I felt like I was gonna pass out. Parking is a mess but thankfully I just walked there from my hotel. All in all a pretty good experience. read more

I've got tons of memories from this place. I saw one of my most favorite bands play here back in 2004, and I kept coming back to this venue ever since. The venue is super small, the music is loud, the line at the bar is full, and sure, you might come out sweating, but if you're there to see a good band, you're most likely gonna walk out of there having a good night. Don't expect a high end venue as this place has no frills. Even the bathroom is older and a bit run down, but there's just so much history to this venue. I mean, come one - this venue is located on Sunset Strip and has been around for ages! Keep an eye out on their site as sometimes they have large acts playing secret shows here. read more

The space here is small enough where any spot you pick will be decent. If you're short though, you might need to be a little more thoughtful on your spot. The place has an intimate feel as you're close to the performance. A nice place to see your favorite indy bands. I haven't used the parking lot. Instead, I was able to find free street parking at Doheny street. Careful when parking there, cause most spots are permit reserved. So I had to drive a few blocks south to find the free spots. The food and drinks are pricy, but that's expected from a Hollywood area. The real reason I'm giving this a 4/5 is because the sound mixing wasn't the best. I was watching this band called the Covet, and I wasn't able to hear the vocals of the lead guitarist. But the instrumental mixing was decent. read more

I read most of the Yelp reviews ahead of time because I had not been to The Roxy in a few decades at least. The reviews were mixed. Some people love it. Some people hate it. It's a smaller place and mostly standing room only, however my friend and I got there around an hour before the first band and we lucked out. A nice security guard named Quincy said we could sit at a little table in the VIP section because it wasn't reserved that night.. The view of the stage was perfect from there as well. BAND NOTES: ============ Hembree was my main reason for going. They sound great on their recordings, but live wasn't as good. Love all the guitars, but the lead singer's voice seemed a bit off. They're from Kansas City. Bloxx who are from the UK are o.k.. Their lead guitar player is really good, but I'm not really impressed with them. Warbly Jets was the headliner from L.A. After last night I am not a fan of them at all. Too much synthesizer and screaming for my taste. We listened to about three of their songs and bailed. PARKING: ========= Again, some people say there is a lot of parking. My motto is the early bird gets the worm. We got there a couple hours early and there are plenty of lots. There's a structure across the street for $10, but I didn't notice it until after we paid $15.00 for a nice little lot about a block northwest of The Roxy. DINING: ======= There are lots of restaurants within walking distance, so just get there a couple hours early and just walk around. We chose Dough Pizzeria & Bar about two blocks east of The Roxy. The service was good and they have a decent menu. Just bookmark some places before you go. I wouldn't recommend getting food at the The Roxy because you may end up standing while you are eating. I went to a concert at ugh my friend here yesterday to see Cannons, super cool place! Honestly best concert I've been too everyone was having a blast. I do think they over crowded the place like it's maximum capacity should be less in order to leave room for people to breath and not get drinks spilled on others I feel like because there was so many people in such small venue we didn't get a chance to really enjoy. But overall we don't drink so not sure how the drinks are but we did buy none alcoholic beverages and the bartenders were all great! Super fun, I think the one that kept holding up a sign that said she couldn't talk should've just stayed home. They do sell food but it's super limited. 8/10 read more

Security was awful and we're not checking everyone! When inside crowd from that event were smoking inside weed and vaping and had minor children in the venue! I was there a few minutes ago with my daughter thinking that the rules posted on the venues website and outside would be followed but was very shocked at what I saw! Went to see Weston Estate perform on a Monday night. It was pretty good. The venue is pretty small, and so was the crowd. It was just what we wanted for a chill monday night. We stood in the back by the bar and just vibed while ordering drinks. We also ordered some chicken strips and fries which was perfect to share for the 2 hr performance. If there's a small/local artist performing here I totally recommend going. Not so sure about bigger performers. Feels like it could get stuffy and gross in their quick. Parking sucks. Residential parking requires a permit or you risk getting towed. There was a very limited amount of coin parking, so we had to pay to park at a tiny lot across the street where they charged $20 till midnight. Hopefully next time we find a cheaper alternative for parking, but regardless super awesome venue for small performers! read more
