Jamie W and I never did come here when this space was Pump, a lavish bar and restaurant owned by reality TV star Lisa Vanderpump. Since I never watch that kind of 'stuff', that connection meant nothing to me. However, now that it's been sold to the purveyors of a successful Venice bar lounge, Roosterfish moved up quickly on our gaydar for a visit during PRIDE weekend. It was upbeat and loud but surprisingly not off-putting. That has a lot to do with the century-old Mediterranean olive trees in the massive open-air courtyard in the middle. Even wrapped in colorful fairy lights, the trees breathe life into the space even with a huge disco ball hanging from the canopy. The dance floor was fairly crowded and pulsating like crazy, but the surrounding tables weren't as coveted. There were plenty of bartenders during PRIDE, so there was no wait for drink orders. The Tequila Sunrises were on the high side at $20 given the plastic cups (Photo), but they gave us the requisite kick. There are rumors that Jamie and I may have been on the dance floor when the DJ was playing Erasure. I will neither confirm nor deny it. Let's say it was a good thing that the new Madonna wasn't out yet. Welcome to Roosterfish aka Roosterfish II Located in the the stretch of West Hollywood, Los Angeles, California among many other iconic spots in the area including Mother Lode, The Abbey, Gym Bar and more. Roosterfish was originally a cool dive bar in Venice, that is nor a lot more modern chic and much more inclusive, not so much a gay bar, but still a safe space with some of it's a original elements on their patio including art and the power or rainbow colors. This new/number two spot at the corner of Santa Monica Blvd/N Robertson Blvd has a very similar exterior in the form of Robin's Egg Blue building and the interior isn't too far off as well, definitely giving younger sibling vibes and trying new and fun events, ongoings and happy hours... Even a special VIP Entrance... During pride which had me feeling a sort of way that was very, "NOT TODAY!" Here's an idea: advertise a World Cup Finals Viewing Party. Then don't do anything to ensure that you can actually show the game until guests start arriving at 11am, an hour before Gametime. Then don't have anyone technically savvy onsite so by the time the game starts at 12pm you still have not figured out out how to broadcast it on the 3 large outdoor TVs you have. Ehhhh. This place looked cool, the server/host was very nice and accommodating but this was kind of a joke. We saw on Instagram they had a post about happy hour and drag race 8-close. So we thought to try it for this week... It was not happy hour this week. Two drinks (vodka ginger beer & peachy queen) $36. I ordered the $11 mozzarella cheese sticks... 5 of them, cold, cheese not melted still solid. Not a fan of this spot. I doubt we will be back. read more

Came here for happy hour with some friends. We came right at opening and they were a bit late to open. We were the only ones there and the bartender was super nice and friendly. Our drinks were fast. The ambiance is nice, and the outdoor seating is spacious though a bit janky. We also tried the meatball sandwich which was pretty tasty and the fries which were good. Came here on a Saturday night when I had some friends visiting from out of town. We showed up around 10 PM and we were able to get right in. By midnight, it did get really packed, but until then it was fairly easy to get a drink at the bar. I like the fact that there's an area by the bar where people can hang out and then there's a dance floor in the other room. They have two bathrooms, but the line was really cramped because it was basically where the walkway was. The DJ played a mix of old-school and top 40 which I loved. One thing that annoyed me, though, was that when I went to get around to drinks and also asked for a soda water for my friend who doesn't drink, they charged me more than a couple dollars for that. The original Roosterfish opened in Venice in 1979. It was a popular spot for my boys back in the late80's, so they were happy when they heard a second location was opening in West Hollywood where PUMP used to be. I've never been to the original location, so I was excited to check it out. Roosterfish is more of a nightlife destination than a restaurant. However, they do offer Italian-American bites. There are a few tables inside and plenty of space to socialize and dance. Outside is a cozy oasis - the beautiful olive trees, large center bar, & cabanas from its previous incarnation still remain. We made reservations and were seated in one of the cabanas. The DJ was playing some killer house music. Since it was the day before St Patrick's day, the usual Happy Hour specials weren't available, but the manager was kind enough to give us complimentary frozen mango margaritas. Bartender Maria was amazing! She had such a great personality and she frequently came out from behind the bar to check on us and bring us more drinks. There was also a very nice gentleman that brought our food and cleared our plates. I had the Huge Spritz, which was tasty & refreshing. The Lucky Paloma was a hit with our group. The light smokiness of the Mezcal gave it a nice twist. It was good. The Black Eye, which was a riff on an Old Fashioned, was exceptionally smooth. We ordered some appetizers to share: Mozzarella Fritta, French Fries with Truffle Aioli, & Calamari Fritti. They were all yummy and the fries were seasoned, which made then even more delicious. There's a big outdoor patio and bar, but beware it gets crowded with long lines on days when they're hosting Love Island watch parties. A relatively new spot in West Hollywood. It was Pump before and was under construction for a while and is finally opened as Roosterfish. It's still finding its niche amongst all the other bars here. We came here for happy hour and enjoy our bartender Eddie. Great person with good conversation and cares about the community. We got some food on their Happy Hour. The Meatball Rigatoni was really well done. The Wolf and Honey was tasty too. The Calamari didn't hit the mark and was a bunch of fried breading with very few pieces of actual squid. I kinda miss the ambiance of the previous restaurant here but we'll see how Roostefish develops in Weho! read more

Our visit to Roosterfish was off to a rough start. One of my friends went to the bar, and the bartender, Gianni, was literally mean rude, dismissive, and just gave off a really negative attitude. It caught all of us off guard and made us feel pretty uncomfortable. I asked a staff member named Jesus if he could help or find the manager. Jesus was super kind and really tried to help he went looking for the manager but wasn't able to find them at the time. Still, he stayed helpful and respectful throughout. A bit later, Steve came over after noticing we were upset. He asked what was going on, and after we explained the situation, he immediately apologized and offered us a round on the house. That small gesture honestly turned the night around for us. Huge thank you to Jesus and Steve for their professionalism and kindness. They really salvaged what could have been a totally negative experience. But Gianni's attitude definitely needs to be addressed especially in a place like Roosterfish, where the vibe is usually welcoming and fun. read more

My boyfriend ordered Patron and what they served definitely was not. And this has happened on more than one occasion. When he confronted the unhelpful bartender, they did not remedy the situation. The security then proceeded to intimidate our group, and on our way out grabbed my boyfriend and pushed our other friend down with no provocation from us at all. Very bad business model! read more

I miss it when this place was pump. We went for an event last night and it was slam packed but for some reason they had ONE waiter and ONE bartender. That's it. I waited in line at the bar for 30 minutes and the bartender didn't even look in my direction. On top of that, their security guards are unprofessional as hell. One of them grabbed my cup of water out of my hands while I was finishing it bc he said I couldn't take drinks out of the restaurant. I said fine let me finish it and he aggressively grabbed it and threw it on the ground. Still in shock he did that. What an a*hole read more

I've been here a couple times now and I love it. It's one of my favorite places to drink and dance on the Santa Monica strip. The ambiance with the lights on the bar and in the trees are so pretty and the drinks are always bomb. Bathrooms are also very clean and nicely decorated. Haven't had a bad service experience at all. A great expansion of the original Roosterfish. The patio is really magical, with beautiful trees but enough covered seating for dining if needed. The bartenders are not only gorgeous but friendly and helpful, even on the view party nights (super fun). Don't go there for the food. Go there for the "West Hollywood" ambiance, music , bar, dancers, etc., I have never witnessed anyone taking a gorgeous restaurant like the PUMP and making it look like a restaurant on Venice Beach. It looks trashy from the outside and the colors are beachy. It just doesn't fit into that "area" of SM Blvd. read more

I came to Roosterfish for the first time today and had a very disappointing experience with the bartender Gianni. I ordered a lemon drop and noticed he was pouring more lemon juice than vodka. When I politely mentioned it, he gave me attitude and asked if I wanted him to use a jigger. I said yes, and from that point on he was rude throughout the entire interaction. When I asked if they offered an industry discount, he told me, "We only have it for friends and you're not a friend." Completely unprofessional and unnecessary. At the end, when I requested a receipt, he refused and said they don't print receipts. I asked how to enter my email to get one, and he just said, "I don't know how to help you. Overall, the service was hostile and dismissive from start to finish. I left feeling unwelcome and disrespected. With so many great bars in LA that treat customers with kindness and professionalism, I wouldn't recommend coming here. ....However, Steve and Jesus completely turned the experience around. Steve was very supportive and understanding, and Jesus was extremely attentive. They both went out of their way to make me feel welcome, which made a huge difference. I still think the first interaction needs to be addressed, but thanks to Steve and Jesus the night ended on a much better note. read more
