Checking back in. It's been years now, and IMHO The Rolling Spring Roll is still the best Vietnamese restaurant on Long Island. I've been to both the Commack and Syosset locations and can attest to the food quality - - always fresh and made in house, even the dumplings and the Pho is cooked daily from bones. This is real deal, bone broth Pho. The staff at the Syosset location (closer to home) is incredible. Super friendly. Even though I am a regular and know the owners through years of going there, I openly try new Vietnamese restaurants when they open, both on Long Island and anywhere I travel, and I can say the nearest comparable Pho I have had is in Vegas. There's a decent one in Sarasota too. But locally? Nothing better than The Rolling Spring Roll. read more

Rolling Spring Roll is my go-to spot for Vietnamese food. I have tried other Vietnamese restaurants but they don't compare. I have been a happy customer since they had their Farmingdale location. I was ecstatic when they opened this location as it was closer to home, and had more seating and a parking lot. My son (and everyone, including me) LOVES the spring rolls. I feel like you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. There are soup noodles, saucy noodles, rice dishes, sandwiches. There is always something to satisfy whatever craving I have. This is a small Vietnamese restaurant that offers a variety of Vietnamese appetizers, Bahn mi's, and noodle entrees. The best part was the friendly service. Everyone was very welcoming and attentive. My party ordered the pork dumplings and three different noodle bowls: spring roll, Angus beef, and lemongrass chicken. The best one was the beef which included a delicious peanut sauce. The although it had a good flavor, the chicken was dry. Both it and the spring roll dish needed extra dressing. The pork in the dumplings had a "gamey" flavor which made me wonder about the meat quality. There is ample table seating, and a beautiful colorful owl at the entrance. The beef pho I ordered to go didn't come with green onions, regular onions, or cilantro. There was just enough broth to wet the noodles, the broth got very thick because there was too much noodles and not enough broth. The flavor of the broth was good just not enough of it. Efficient lunch service allowed you to order a quick bowl of Pho, Crispy Spring Rolls wrapped in fresh crisp lettuce, pungent cilantro then dipped in rich Peanut sauce = Perfect Lunch Combos. Fast Forward to 2023. Deciding on where to lunch with our curious newbie co-workers, with none of them ever having Vietnamese before, they were eager to try the cuisine. After a few questions, the still efficient staff took orders of Pho, Summer Rolls, some Vietnamese Dumplings plus the obligatory Spring Rolls for the table. My colleagues loved everything! Thus another successful culinary introduction has been completed. Well so I thought. After a discussion with friends that know the cuisine better than I, I ended up being schooled. I was told that this is not authentic Vietnamese and RSRs dishes are very tempered down. I will admit, Pre-Covid to me the effort put into the dishes were much better, but isn't that like most things these days? I get it, sadly corners are being cut everywhere. I really wanted to like The Rolling Spring, I'm not sure if this should be called Vietnamese cuisine or simply Vietnamese influenced. It just didn't taste or smell like Viet food. You should be able to smell the broth from outside the restaurant, simmering stock with spices and importantly, FISH SAUCE! I was extremely hungry, so I bit the bullet. I had the pho ga and summer rolls. Summer rolls came out first, it was wrapped tightly, which was great, but the peanut better that was given was not peanut sauce. Everything that matter was missing. The heat, hoisin, crunchy peanuts and fish sauce. I skipped the sauce and just used siracha. The summer roll used sliced iceberg lettuce. Not a fan. Cilantro? Really? So many things that irked me. At least the shrimp was pouched well. On to the Pho Ga. Broth was clear. Taste like bouillon powder. Lack of any true chicken flavor. No spices, no smell of fish sauce. Just tasted like chicken noodle soup you would get at a panera bread. Broth should be blonde, glisten with chicken fat. Very disappointed with the food. Met a friend for pho- we both got the vegetarian pho in the regular size. There was a good amount of tofu and toppings and the broth had nice flavor. They have siracha and hoisin on the side. Food overall tasted good and was enough for one person no leftovers. Service was a little slow and the interior wasn't the cutest but food was good. read more

Been coming to Roling Spring Roll for years now but never brought my meal home. Eating in the restaurant is always yum but I didn't have time to sit and enjoy my lunch so I ordered for a pick up. I ordered a PHO BO - beef (regular size) with the raw sliced meat packed separately. When I got home and saw my sliced meat in a baggie, I was a happy camper. Customer service is horrible and the lady with the glasses isn't very nice. Why would I give this place a 4 out of 5 review instead of a 1 out of 5? Well... The food is very good (has flavor!) and I can't find another place out here with good Bahn Mi and Pho... The restaurant is dark inside, there is plenty of parking in the front. It's clean. I've came here a handful of times during the past few years and decided to return today since their only 15 minutes away and I didn't feel like driving far. You really can't compare the Vietnamese food on LI to Queens or Manhattan. You can only hope to get your craving fixed in which I did. You have to scan your phone and order/pay through the toasttab website or if you're not able to, they can do it for you on their end. The food here is decent at best, price is a bit higher and the portions are smaller than average compared to other Vietnamese places. I got the nem nuong (grilled pork sausage) & spring rolls with vermicelli noodles and a classic banh mi sandwich. My other half got the pho bo and crispy pork spring rolls app. Everything was decent except for the banh mi, that was not good at all. There were like 1 piece of meat in it with a bunch of veggies and the baguette was thick. The spring rolls were my favorite, they tasted crispy & fresh. It's been a while since I've been back and I'm not sure if I'll really be back as the food sort of missed the mark and has gotten pretty expensive now. We ordered 8 springs, regular pho soup and a grilled pork chops over rice and it came out to around $50. Plus tip you're looking at $60, which is much more than what you would pay in Queens. As for the food, the spring rolls were okay. I wish they didn't use iceberg lettuce and the container they serve the fish sauce in is way too small. The pho wasn't all that large and the broth lacked depth of favor. If you're looking to satisfy a craving, it may do the job, but that's about it. The grilled pork chops were okay. It came with white rice, which was tasty, and a salad with no dressing. I just used fish sauce instead. The pork chop was on the thicker side but would have liked it a bit more grilled. Overall, this place is okay and would only come if I don't want to trek out to Queens. Even then, I would expect to pay more than I would like for food that is mediocre. read more

Consistent every time! One of the best pho that you can get in the area! It's not flushing or Chinatown portion, but the soup hits the spot! Its flavorful and not oily. They do a great job skimming it. Some may say that fat is good but without fat floating, you would actually want to drink the soup! The spring rolls are deliciously fried, super hot so be careful! I know it's difficult waiting for it to cool down, but its so worth it when you don't have your tongue burned! Their nuoc cham sauce could be more tastier though. My husband prefer the Hoisin with sriracha in opt of that. I think we had it twice a week for the last month Haha. Beats driving though traffic to flushing and trying to find parking. I was so spoiled when I worked in Brooklyn with my proximity to Vietnamese food. Haven't been able to find a place until I found this little gem. I only got take out (COVID) and ate it like a picnic In the park. The shrimp roll was delicious and fresh. The classic Banh mi was very good. After having read so many of the awesome reviews for the Rolling Spring Roll, we were finally able to make good on a promise to come try them out and see what all the craze was about. My lovely bride, the mad Russian invited me to come have lunch on a weekday when I happened to be able to make it, so we made it a date. There is plenty of parking in the lot so that never seems to be a problem, even with the other stores in the strip mall where it is located. As expected, the service was excellent and our seating and drink orders were carried out almost immediately. Our server came straight away and made sure that we got our order in. Apparently they realize that at this hour, many people are on the lunch hour and need to be served relatively quickly. Food came out as ordered and was delicious. Served hot where needed and when we asked to take the leftovers home there was enough for another meal. We really enjoyed the fresh food and the nice presentation. Noise inside was not loud and it made it nice to have a conversation while we ate. For sure we will be back to try more and more of what the restaurant has to offer. Well done! read more

We had Summer Rolls for appt which came with addictive peanut dipping sauce. Got fish sauce as additional condiment which added flavor. Fortunately enough, The Rolling Spring Roll is around to keep Viet food lovers and LI residents sane, since there aren't many Vietnamese restaurants on Long Island. We've ordered take-out and dined in a couple of times and food has been consistently good. Prices are higher compared to that of Flushing, but what do you expect ... it's the island. We've enjoyed their spring rolls, summer rolls, Vietnamese coffee and pho and they've all met our expectations. Lovely interior and options of pho, banh mi, and summer rolls! The food is delicious! We ordered beef pho and pork belly sandwiches and summer rolls. The pho comes with different sizes, as a average size girl the small filled me up very quickly but the regular is the typical pho bowl you see! I would definitely recommend this place!
