I have been back to Spoonsticks many times, and I always order the same dish. The Bulgogi BiBimBap is delicious and it never fails to satisfy my craving for bibimbap. I've also tried their appetizers such as the Spicy Bok Choi Salad, the Hash Potato Jeon, and the Karage Bun and all were excellent. One of the worst Korean/Japanese restaurants I've been to. The side dishes were fridge-cold, fine, I can overlook that, but the seafood pancake came out barely two minutes after we ordered, which already made me suspicious. Sure enough, it wasn't fresh at all. The batter was uncooked and mushy inside, and the seafood was the tiny, frozen kind you'd find in a supermarket mix. I couldn't even finish it. I attached a picture and you can clearly see the uncooked batter. We also ordered three ramen bowls, and the pork belly topping was dry, thin, and flavorless. Overall, everything tasted rushed and low-quality. Definitely not worth the price or calories. I'm highly suspicious of the amount of positive reviews this place gets. We had the fried dumplings and they were yummy. We also ordered the Soy Garlic Korean wings. Outstanding! I had the Bibimbap with Beef Bilgogi. Our waitress stirred in the sauce and broke up the egg and pressed it into the sizzling stone. It was quite delicious. My husband had the same but with karage chicken. He said he thought the stone was almost too hot because it dried out the chicken. Even the waitress was reacting to hot it was when she stirred his and smashed it down to her the crunchy rice. It would have otherwise been a perfect dining experience. My daughter has the Spicy Ramen and she loved it. Came in during the week and had our choice of places to sit. Note- their parking lot is SMALL and half of it is reserved for the other business in the strip mall. I can imagine during dinner on the weekends parking is rough and requires you to park down the side streets. We were greeted promptly with water and menus and service throughout the meal was very attentive. They place a pitcher of water on the table with water glasses, which is nice, however the glasses are extremely small, so we kept needing to refill. We ordered the Garlic Soy & Spicy wings to start. It's nice you can do 5 of each so you get to try both flavors. Was definitely too large of a portion for a lunch appetizer but glad we tried both. They were nice and crunchy and the sauces were flaborful. For our meals we had the Pork bun lunch special, , beef bulgogi lunch box. Pork buns came with fries and were really tender. The lunch box had so much food and the egg was cooked perfectly. The meal was really good and was more than enough food for 2- we took home leftovers for lunch the next day. Spoonsticks is surely one of a kind in this part of town. I am so excited for more Asian foods popping up throughout the island. It was incredibly easy to make a reservation on their website and I certainly do recommend making one especially if you plan on going there for dinner on a weekend. As everyone says, parking is very much not an option in their small lot... but fear not, street parking is easy to find. We ordered the soft shell crab bun and pork belly bun as appetizers, tonkotsu ramen for the kids, and a spicy rice cake and spicy pork bibimbap. - Soft shell crab bun: I was concerned about the sauce overload. However it didn't drown out the soft shell crab taste... shockingly. I really enjoyed this appetizer. Fried nicely. Delicious. So worth it. - Pork belly bun: Okay so this was just half decent. I was expecting a pork belly that melts in my mouth... but this is not the case. In fact I found it to be kind of tough. Maybe it was just mine?! Very disappointed. - Spicy rice cake: Typical. Good. But typical. Not sure why when I saw beef bulgogi I expected a fun new element... however once everything is mixed together all you taste is the sauce anyway. - Spicy pork bibimbap: My husband and I both preferred this over the spicy rice cake entree. Flavorful. Good texture. This was enjoyable... but nothing special. - Tonkotsu ramen: Not bad. Broth was rice and earthy. I've definitely had better ramen at other locations in Long Island. I would say this kind of ranked in the middle. Not the best, but not the worst. In terms of the service, they are definitely short staffed.. They are very short staffed to a point I felt like a bother whenever I needed something. They are very nice and friendly, don't get me wrong. But when you see them running around like a chicken with their head cut off you feel bad asking for things! When we entered it took a while for them to even acknowledge as we awkwardly stood there. When I asked for the WiFi password, the guy said he had to ask someone... never came back. Pretty sure our extra noodles order was forgotten as we had to ask multiple times... by then our broth was cold. Check took a while to be processed. I'm torn. For an appetizer we had our eyes on the Korean dumplings. I asked if you could get a few of one variety and a couple of another. You can't. Spoiler Alert: you can't customize anything on the menu. More on that later. The spicy fried Korean dumplings were actually very good and the reason we couldn't give a solo star. Alas, the rest of our visit was not as delicious as the dumplings. For my meal I wanted the veggie fried rice and to add some tofu on the side. I was told "no, you can't add tofu" Uhmmm... ok. So I got the tofu vegetable bibimbap and was not happy. The way the tofu came on the side made it quite clear that it was very much possible to just add tofu to the vegetable rice. Now for the reason we'll never return: my husband wanted one specific type of ramen but to substitute tofu instead of the beef. Can I just say...? I know close to nothing about food. I may be Yelp Elite but I'm no foodie. But I do know that one of the benefits of ramen is that it's highly customizable. These babies were absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The pork belly was so nicely flavored on its own while the fluffy bun, onions, greens, and sauce really added to the experience. We split the lunch special 2 piece combo as an appetizer, and it was by far the winner of the meal. We were still talking about them hours later! I got the spicy pork bulgogi bibimbap, which was great! A+ flavor, presentation, and portion size. Personally I would have wanted more vegetables and a runnier yolk, but I still highly enjoyed the dish and am happy to have leftovers for tomorrow. I love, love, love this place. I come from Queens to get their japchae (glass noodles with beef bulgogi). It has such good flavor, the bulgogi is always perfectly seasoned and tender. It's amazing when it is freshly made, but I swear, it tastes better to me after marinating the noodles in the sauce and beef overnight in the fridge. It gives it a more full-bodied flavor, almost creamy. The beef bun was also fantastic, no fat, perfectly tender, squishy soft bun. Mine was nice and fluffy with a piece of crunchy chicken topped with this sweet sauce that left me wanting another. Also as appetizers the edamame and spring rolls are a must.
