To be fair, I've only ever ordered a gyro here, which is pretty good. But the fries are TERRIBLE! We went on a night that wasn't very busy and it took FOREVER to get our food, a good 20 minutes at least. For a quick service restaurant I expected hot food for the length of wait, but the gyro was barely warm and the fries were a soggy mess. Have you ever ordered takeout only to get home and have your fries completely disgusting from the styrofoam container? That's how these were, only we ate at The Rock. Breaks my heart to review this way because the young man behind the counter was very nice, but the falafel I had was a very poor excuse for a falafel. I have had this place book marked for a while and have been wanting to find a good Mediterranean place in Bloomington-Normal and thought this would be the place and how convenient it would be that it is beside the hotel I am staying at. Sadly wrong. I appreciate that they are trying to Americanize some aspects of their menu, but please don't try to Americanize the traditional falafel by adding pickle spears and having way more breading and a poor amount of actual falafel. So much potential! We ordered a tenderloin, rock salad, and cheesesteak sandwhich. The fries were good. The tenderloin was good. The cheesesteak was okay. Cheese seems to be yellow kraft, but not sure. Onions were almost raw. The hummus was good. The salad was good but the lettuce and veggies weren't chopped so we had to cut it up ourselves. The utensils were flimsy plastic, so that proved to be fairly annoying for an $8 salad served on styrofoam. Overall could be great. Little more care into the food prep and it would have been good- 4stars. Give me some proper eating utensils and a plate to eat on and I'd give it 5 stars. read more

This is my favorite place in the Blo-No area hands down. All of their food is delicious and the fries are some of the best I've ever tasted. I've tried pretty much everything off their Mediterranean menu and I've never been disappointed. This should be one star but I will give this spot the benefit of the doubt. Had lunch on a Friday afternoon. Placed me order for a gyro (not a Super Gyro or a gyro platter) and delivered my food 26 minutes later (the risk of time stamping register receipts). The food was delivered by a man with a backward baseball cap who walked around aimlessly before yelling out my order number before making eye contact. I have been served more quickly at Ruth's Chris. It took 12 minutes to eat the gyro which tasted good but not 26 minutes worth of good. Now I realize it's move out day and graduation weekend but there were empty tables available the entire time I was there. read more

Just had another great lunch today. We shared the cheese balls with ranch to start - which were great. I got the gyro cheeseburger - it has a nice combo of flavors. I got it with everything and it was all very fresh. My wife got the Philly cheese steak sandwich with grilled onions and melted provolone cheese, which also was excellent. Some of the best gyros in bloomington/normal. Large menu from hot dogs to falafel. Some Chicago Hot dog stand favorites including the world famous Pizza Puff (Yummy but keep your cardiologist on speed dial). Their super Philly cheese steak is excellent and very filling. I love the garlic chicken too. My only complaint is the Pepsi products specifically the fountain unsweetened iced tea which tastes like the plastic bag it came in. The Rock is the best Restaurant in Normal and i would safely argue the best Gyro in the US. Friendly staff, excellent owner, redesigned dining area, and delicious food. This is simply a great place to eat--and everyone makes you feel as if you are welcomed--it is like coming home. My wife loves the Philly Cheese-steak and she always takes a few of my Onion Rings--simply the best Onion Rings in town. The Rock is clean and attractive and comfortable. The owners are good, friendly guys who are driven to make sure every customer is pleased, and they hire employees who share that attitude. Highly recommended and everything tastes so good. Their hamburgers are perfectly cooked, the Tenderloin is crisp, the Buffalo Chicken is tender and has the right amount of kick, but the star on the menu, in my opinion is the Gyro. Oh Rock, I love thee. For years it was the falafel, as it was the only thing I could eat on the menu. And believe me, I still love the falafel, but now I can speak to the greatness of such things as the gyro burger and the hummus and gyro meat platter. Owners are also great guys. read more
