This was some seriously delicious food. I popped into this place for the first time on a Saturday night. Staff were nice and friendly, making suggestions when I asked. I ordered a chicken shawarma bowl over a bed of hummus, which comes with five toppings, a falafel pita, which comes with three toppings, and a side of fries. The hardest part of your visit will be choosing which toppings and sauce you want! There were so many good options. I added the red cabbage, banana peppers, baba ganoush, and tahini sauce to the falafel pita -- would 100% do that again. The side of fries was SO generously sized and was only $2.99. Before I left, the store added falafel, pita, and Jerusalem salad to my order, on the house! That was so kind of them, and was mouth-watering. The interior of the restaurant had ample seating and was very clean. My food was made to order very quickly, and they made the fries fresh for me. I would absolutely come back here on my next visit!

About the best place to eat in all Champaign. It actually has decent food and portions unlike some of the places around it. Shawarma Joint is a pretty authentic Middle Eastern restaurant. Order at the counter and pick toppings as you go. The prices aren't bad for all this. I ordered a Falafel Pita as carryout. It's $6.99 for a pretty big one. This comes with a few pretty big pieces of falafel on a warm fresh pita. Among the toppings are typical vegetables found on falafel. Vegetables such as cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes. Also you can order bowls. Just a couple bucks more. These can pack in some more toppings. Also there's combos. These include a drink and fries. A lot of good stuff in here and healthy. It's better than a lot of crap around it. There's good choices for vegetarians.

Delicious every time. Ol reliable. My boyfriend and I love to come here and go on dates to eat, super casual and quick. All the employees are so fast and give heaping portions. I get the gyro bowl with yellow rice, grilled eggplant, tabouli, baba ganoush, grape leaves, sometimes feta and pickled onions, and lots of tanini. Sorry if I'm spelling that wrong. I go at least twice a month honestly and I will keep coming back.

If you order a "bowl" you get more customization (you choose base, meat, sauce) than if you order the Gyro or Chicken/Steak Schwarma "Plate". For a dollar more you get no options and no sauce. If you order the Plate make sure to order an extra side of sauce (I.e. Tzatziki Sauce for Gyro Plate and Pita if you want). The plate had lots of gyro meat but was so dry and my husband and I had to share 1 sauce. On the other hand, The Gyro Pita sandwich my daughter ordered had so much sauce she couldn't eat it before the whole thing disintegrated. Lots of food. Good fries.

There are actually 2 locations but the other doesn't have a Yelp page. I love going to Shawarma Joint in Urbana (102 E University). It's such a large portion that I never finish it all and get a second meal out of it! There is a lunch special as well. You move through the line and pick what you want like Chipotle. Sometimes they'll give falafels along with my bowl :) It is pretty clean inside, and I don't see too many people eating in usually. The location on campus is okay as well but I don't go as often.

Absolute gem of a restaurant located right on the corner of Campustown. This was the first restaurant I visited in Champaign and I've yet to be disappointed. Portions are great for the price. You can select from a variety of rice, meat, and vegetable options. Their meat options are slightly limited, but the toppings selection is vast. Highly recommend the baba ghanoush and fried eggplant. Their fries and grape leaves are also excellent.

Gyro Bowl (Hummus Base) with fried eggplant, fried cauliflower, purple cabbage salad, Jerusalem salad, and garlic sauce

My go-to lunch spot on campus! I've been here multiple times and the food never disappoints. The restaurant is on the smaller side as it's located on a busy street, which makes take-out a more viable option, however, dining in is still an option with plenty of seating. The restaurant layout is made to accommodate multiple students during a lunch rush, however, the staff still continue to provide friendly customer service. Sometimes they hand out free falafels with your meal! Even though it does get busy, I would recommend coming here for their discounted lunch special which includes a drink and a side of fries or soup. The lunch special bowl is slightly smaller, but still has more than enough food. (their regular sized bowls are large enough to share). I also would recommend opting for hummus or lettuce as a base as opposed to rice, and trying their delicious garlic sauce if you get a chance. Seriously love this place!

Stephanie got two buttermilk pancakes and 2 sausage links, I got the banana bread French toast? What no way!!! She was raving about how good the food was and I said ok ok it can't be THAT amazing... she was right! This establishment doesn't take reservations, they do a waiting list. And when we woke up my daughter put us on the list and we were 189th!!! I said welp- we may need to have a back up plan because we're never gonna get in! But sure enough by the time we got dressed and ready and arrived, it worked out seamlessly and we walked straight in and to our table! I don't recall ever witnessing such a highly efficient, AND friendly team at a restaurant in my life. I was truly amazed that we made our way thru the waitlist, and despite it being an extremely busy day on a holiday, it was not at all chaotic. They had a system, and everyone knew their assignments! We were seated in a nice sunny booth for our meal. A server who wasn't even our main server came over to say hello and wish me a happy Mother's Day and offered to take our picture!! So sweet!!! Now to the food!!! Oh my goodness. I literally have not stopped thinking about this veggie skillet since Mother's Day!!!! The combinations!!! So they had sweet potato tater tots, mushrooms, spinach, eggs, pumpkin seeds, feta and dried cranberries!!!! A party in my mouth!!!! That combination was SO delicious!! Major kudos to the chef who put that on the menu! My daughter had the Tuscan omelette which had chicken sausage, spinach, sun dried tomatoes, & feta cheese. She said hers was amazing too!! Outstanding meal! I live in Evanston, IL and I'm telling you this brunch was so good I'm planning a trip back to go visit this place again!!! So yummy! And the staff was handing out single roses to all the moms on Mother's Day! How sweet was that!! And how thoughtful of them even on a CRAZY busy day!! Shouts out to the entire team there! Yall are doing a wonderful job! Keep it up!!

A glass display case sits empty at the hostess station displaying nothing but lots of smudgy fingerprints. A fitting analogy to the current Courier unfortunately. Remember Dagwood Bumstead and his multi layer skyscraper sandwiches?? Not here! This was more of a very dry bread sandwich. Where are the layers of veggies? The layers of cheese? The alfalfa sprouts? The sauce? My sandwich was served with a stale pickle. I asked if I could order a side like potato salad. They had coleslaw - $4 up charge. The place needs to be cleaned up! It's a wonderfully unique space--part wine and spirits shop, part lively daytime dining room--with a steady flow of customers browsing bottles alongside a full bar and tables occupied by ladies who lunch and retirees enjoying a relaxed weekday afternoon. It is a surprisingly chic space for Champaign. The dining room was busy enough that there would have been a wait for a table, but we were perfectly happy at the bar. Our bartender was very friendly and welcoming, even while clearly managing a high volume of guests in what felt like a short-staffed moment. Despite that, service remained warm and attentive. We shared the traditional fondue, which was generously portioned and stayed hot for an impressively long time thanks to their setup--ideal for lingering over conversation. We both enjoyed wine pairings, and I especially loved the Winter Warmer Knob Creek cider: cozy, well-balanced, and a standout choice, particularly for anyone who appreciates Knob Creek. Sun Singer has an excellent atmosphere--social, distinctive, and effortlessly inviting. I very much look forward to returning the next time we're back in the area.
