The Sunnyland location Bernardis has always been my parents favorite. I dont see a difference, Bernardis locations are all predictably good. Service was good tonight. I had the grilled salmon, my son the lasagna, and my parents had the pot roast special. It was all good, I tried a bite of Sullys Lasagne, Bernardis sauce is really delicious. If you've never tried their fried chicken it is literally some of the best on the planet. Ive had a few of their newer menu items recently- they are trying to branch out and be a little more upscale. Julie and I visited Bernardi's in Washington on Thursday, August 6, 2026, to meet up with a group of friends. There were eight of us at the table. When we arrived, the other six people in our group were already there, having drinks and sharing bread from the basket provided at the table. We ordered our meals, and when our food arrived, I asked for some additional bread to go with my meal. I was told, rather abruptly, that there was only one basket of bread per table. What I found particularly frustrating was that there were other tables with only two people sitting at them, and they had a full basket of bread. Meanwhile, our table of eight was expected to share one basket. I even offered to pay for additional bread, but I was simply told no, and I never received any additional bread. The policy itself was disappointing, but what really bothered me was the way the situation was handled. The waitress was extremely abrasive and difficult to understand, and there was no attempt to explain the policy or offer any alternative. A simple explanation such as, "I'm sorry, we have a new policy, but you can purchase additional bread if you'd like," would have been completely different. We have traditionally enjoyed Bernardi's and have gone there about once a week, either dining in or getting carryout. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be returning. Restaurants have plenty of competition, and when you're spending your hard-earned money somewhere, you should be treated with courtesy and respect. I understand that restaurants can change their policies, even policies I may not agree with. What I don't understand or accept is being treated rudely when simply asking for something as basic as a piece of bread with my meal. It wasn't the bread that ultimately made me decide not to return. I really love Bernardi's food. But we went there Saturday night and the service was Unbelievable! We arrive promptly at six and we're seated ordered appetizers and drinks. Those were delivered, but we never saw the waitress again for 20 minutes. I'm seriously telling you 20 minutes. We sat there with no order. No refill on drinks nothing. We had to go to the bar to get refreshment. Finally got our dinner at 7:30! 730! By the time we ate, we were the last ones in the restaurant. They were actually running the vacuum around us. Bernardi's is my "go-to" restaurant, while in the Peoria area. The fried chicken is out of this world !! Not to mention the homemade pasta dishes, presented in elegant old world style at a reasonable price. Consistency is the key to Bernardi's success, and they are positively consistent every time. Too expensive for what you get. I ordered the wings 13.95 for 9. However someone can't count and I only had 8 in my carry out. Chicken livers dinner looked like half the order was missing. 8 livers with fries and salad $16.95. Plus the add 5% for carry out. Won't order again for awhile. read more

This has been one of my favorite restaurants to go to for the past few years. That all ended last night. Our waiter was rude and appeared annoyed that he had to wait on our table of 2. Food was not good. Started with stuffed mushrooms that were not fully cooked never received our salads and pasta was sad. Appearance was sloppy and taste was not good. The food and the drinks were great, however we got there roughly at 6:30, we were seated in the back room and by 7:15 they were already picking up chairs from all of the other tables and started vacuuming. We hadn't even gotten our food yet... it appeared like they were so worried about closing that they didn't notice us being there. it really took away from the experience. Food and service are always great, no matter when we go or what we order. Granted, Mona's and Capponi's in Toluca are the first restaurants I ever went to as a child,, and little is different in Washington! The chicken is my favorite of anywhere in Peoria. Pasta is a family style from central/northern Italy and is not what most Americans expect in their tomato-y pasta sauces, but it is what my family cooked. They have a great menu with a variety of dishes, American and Italian. There is a full bar with good wines and drink specials. They can get busy on weekends, so come early! We decided to try this local joint for our weekly pre run carb fest and had an average dining experience. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs as I feel this is a good indicator of overall food quality at Italian restaurants. The pasta was good and the meatballs were of good size and flavor. The meat sauce was ground beef filled, but lacked the flavor that Italian sausage usually provides. Salad was not included with the meal so for an additional $2 I was served a small salad of greens mix. I enjoyed the creamy Italian dressing. My wife ordered the baked mostaccoli, and thought it was also average. Plenty of the same meat sauce topped with melted cheese. The meal was complimented by baked bread which was also good and fresh. Mid range Italian food is very competitive, and bernardi's falls below the midpoint in my opinion. Additionally the price is a bit high compared to the competition, and the portions are slightly smaller. I can tell from the filled bar and waiting area this is a local favorite, just not this local. read more

I had been to their other locations and had never been disappointed. We started with salad. I tried something new, Italian skins, which were outstanding. Disappointed that this place is no where close to Mona's in Toluca. We went to Mona's three weeks ago and it was awesome. The fish there was the best I've ever eaten. Bernardi's shrimp was very small and served barely warm. Fried fish was dry. For the price we paid we won't go back. Culver's fish and shrimp are better. I gave 3 stars because the pretzel was great and our server was good. read more

Our family met there for dinner. The fall drinks they offered were delicious. One of our daughters is pregnant so was not able to have one. She was a little disappointed that they didn't offer a non-alcoholic version. We started with stuffed mushrooms and onion rings....both were delicious. Fried chicken is awesome, spaghetti and other pastas are average at best. Always seems "hectic", even if most of the tables are empty (probably alot of opportunity to improve operations). Salads are small and bland, nothing special about anything else. read more

Excellent salmon!! Perfect crispy crust on the outside, yet still moist and flavorful. Filet medallions stuffed with shrimp and crabmeat were wonderful!! Key Lime martini was good, but did not have the Graham cracker crust on the rim. Great spomoni!! read more

I don't write reviews to many times, but after my experience recently I just had to. My wife on several occasions have tried their fried catfish and each time (probably 3 times over the past 3 years) we have gotten a fish that resembled sushi when trying to get the meat off. This last time a few days ago was no exception. After eating one side of the fish and approaching the head, it was extremely slimey and greyish looking. We asked that they cook another one and make sure they cook it additional time to assure it was done. The second one was worse than the first. At that point after waiting another 15-20 minutes, we just told them to take it off the bill. The server must have gone to the manager, and she exclaimed "we can't just give you two catfish, the owner would kill me". I didn't expect them to take off all the dinner, but $4 off a $18.50 meal just doesn't seem adequate. She was very rude when I asked if they could take more off. She also stated they put the temp probe in, and it was up to temperature, but that seems very unlikely since time expired from the time she complained to when they "supposedly" took it back to the kitchen to check the temperature. When I stated I won't be back, she just exclaimed "OK". The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the other food was good, and the server tried her best. For some reason though, they just don't know how to cook catfish. read more

My favorite restaurant in Tazewell County. Pasta recipes date back to the 1930's and stands the test of time. I have tried nearly everything on the menu and it all has been above average and an excellent value. Servers are well trained and experienced. I have been flying into peoria about 5 times a year and always made it a point to stop by bernardis. They have gone way down hill. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were cold and had a funky taste to them. The sauce was room temp and the pasta tasted like it had been sitting in the water for hours. The bread was served at room temp and the butter was almost frozen, making it impossible to spread. And my biggest pet peeve, warm beer. I used to have my family reunions here but no more. This is a great, quiet place to enjoy good service and great food. The fried chicken is the very best anywhere in Central Illinois! It has a small bar and two nice sized dining areas.
