On our day trip to LaConnor, we stopped in at The Rex to see what they're offering. We learned that the new owners, Karl & Jane, just opened a few days ago. This place is being revamped into a dessert bar. They are currently offering cold beverages, gelato and Lopez Island ice cream, along with sandwiches, fresh pies and other baked goods. We got some ice cream and of course, had to try the homemade chocolate chip cookie. It was a nice treat! I'm liking what we're seeing so far and will check them out again in a few months to see how they are progressing. It's a cute place with friendly owners! There is ample patio seating.

Huge double scoop!

Such an adorable ice cream dessert shop, love the. We ordered ice cream and . As you can see from the picture, the ice cream scoops are huge! I think they are revamping the storefront next-door into a restaurant possible bar. I would definitely come back when visiting family again.

We stopped in for dinner after a day of riding and checking out the daffodil fields in La Conner, the food was excellent and the staff were wonderful A+ service, the charcuterie board was awesome as was the roast beef dip and the smashed burger, chatted with the owner for a bit very nice guy makes you feel very welcome, we highly recommend this place to everyone.

We decided to come here as a quick lunch stop. The owner and the young woman running the place are both very nice and the food/dessert portions are well worth the price. ~$45 for two large sandwiches, chips, and drinks (included 20% tip). They also had beautiful home-made desserts. The outdoor seating was absolutely beautiful as well! Well worth the drive and price!

Italian Wrap

What a gem! The space is beautiful & cozy and everyone is so friendly! We had lattes, key lime pie, blueberry crumble cheesecake & sandwiches - everything was absolutely delicious! Only here for the weekend and can't wait to come back!

Appetizer Burger!!!

by @iwanttobewhatieat Obviously I must have a thing for biker friendly bars because I'm obsessed with @the_rex_bar_and_grill The food was AWESOME and the service was outstanding. Went with the appetizer burger and look, Monzarella sticks and onion rings are meant to be on cheeseburgers. I didnt know this my entire life. Now I know and it will never be the same. Ruined for all other burgers. The hubs went with the Kevin Funk Burger, and again so so goooood!! Eggs make burgers epic. This is such a cool spot with fantastic service, home made baked goods and relaxing outdoor space that is dog friendly. Now you know, off you go. #skagiteats #pnweats #foodblog #foodie #foodiesofinstagram #eathere #bestfood #bestfoodfeed #foodblogger #eatingfortheinsta #foodstagram #foodlover #foodgram #foodinsta #foodaddict #washingtonrestaurants #washingtoneats #pnwfood #skagitvalley #skagitfood #skagitfoodies #foodporn #borntoeat #yummy #nomnom #deliciousfood #deliciousness

Beef Taco from the Taco Tuesday menu
Louie F.

I have driven by the Rex and Taco Tuesday sign lured my famished soul in on a Tuesday! It appears, it is a specialty/convenient store, a bar, and a cafe. Interesting mix and layout. They have local microbrews on tap so I ordered a beer and a beef taco, which for 7 dollars, seemed expensive. Until it came out! It was a soft taco that requires two hands and a few napkins, or a fork to eat. I almost ordered two but I am glad I only ordered one because it was filling. The taco sauce included is what I'd call an old school taco sauce to go with an old school American taco. I would not say it was the best old school soft taco I've had, but it was good. Overall, the feel of the place was great and friendly and someplace I plan to stop at again!

The patio faces one of the main streets so there was lots of good people watching. I ordered a beer flight and was very satisfied with all four of my selections: Prickly Pear Kolsch - it was creamy and easy to drink, bursting with prickly pear flavor; just the right amount of tart and sweet. Lightly Buzzed Honey Lavender Blonde - my favorite of the flight; it was very hoppy but light and refreshing and well balanced by intense lavender flavor and a smooth honey finish. Get it! You won't regret it. High Five Hefe - lighter/less hazy and more hoppy than most hefes it made for a unique and complimentary beer on my flight. Pommeroys Citra Pale Ale - a perfect West Coast IPA. To eat, my pup got the Lucky Dog hamburger (which the chef pre-cut) and loved it! He chowed down in less than a minute. And I got the Mac & Cheese Burger (sub a veggie patty) with the Garlic Fries. It was a very indulgent meal to say the least. The burger was loaded with so much Mac & Cheese that I couldn't even put the top bun on it and pick it up. lol I had to knife and fork the whole thing which was totally worth it. The Mac is a classic home style recipe (think Stouffers but better). Their fries are shoestring and super crispy and salty. And they loaded those up with an amazing garlic aioli and Parmesan. I got a side of their house-made curry aioli and was obsessed with it. Every fry that didn't have sauce or parm got a dip in that deliciousness and I added it to quite a few of the burger bites too. All in all, a great brewpub that I look forward to returning to in the future!

Temperate Habits is one of my top choices in MV when I'm craving good food and a good beer. And now…read morethat they've got their brewery operation full up and running, it's a good spot for both. Not just a brewery, women-owned TH is also a taphouse featuring an assortment of tasty local and regional beers, wines, seltzers, and ciders. You'll find anything from their own house-brewed beers to local favorite breweries from around Washington State. I like going here with The Dude, because they've always got at least a couple of good IPAs on tap for him, as well as more mild choices for those of us who aren't as into over-the-top hoppiness. What sets Temperate Habits apart, though, is their excellent menu. From quirky options (like their famous mac 'n cheese burger) to more traditional offerings (like my favorite, the caesar salad with salmon), there's something here to fit most tastes, and most budgets. We love going here for lunch, grabbing a couple of pints, and splitting one of their tasty cheeseburgers. I'm also a fan of their appetizer brussel sprouts, made (of course) with Skagit Valley's finest. They do have an outdoor patio, which is a good place for people watching (but can get kind of loud as it's right on the street). Going solo? There's almost always a spot at their friendly bar!

This place deserves ALL THE STARS!…read more It doesn't look like much from the outside. In fact, we were on our way to La Conner when we happened to pass this place and I decided to look it up. I saw they had BBQ, and the reviews seemed to rave about it, so we flung a U-ie and came here. IM SO GLAD WE DID. You walk in and order your food at the counter, then head next door (still inside the same building) to grab your beer. Tons of seating both inside and out. **St Louis ribs are only sold on Saturdays** FYI We got a flight of ciders and beers, and for food we got BBQ nachos, ribs, and I think my husband got a burger. My husband said his burger was good, BUT THESE RIBS, YALL. They stole the show. They were honestly the best ribs I've EVER had! So tender, and the dry rub was amazing. I highly suggest getting them dry and getting the BBQ sauce on the side. That way you can taste how good they really are before being drenched in their delicious BBQ sauce. As for the beers, I wanted to give a shout out to their Coconut Stout. I've had many coconut stouts that I want to be good, and they all fall flat. But this has been my favorite coconut stout of all time! You could taste the full flavor profile of the toasted coconut! It was incredible! I give this place a 10/10! We will definitely be back!!

I came for the food -- in my case a Reuben sandwich stuffed to the gills -- and coleslaw, though obviously most people choose fries in one of the available variants. Both the sauce on the sandwich and the slaw had a kick to them - a hint of heat that added to the whole. The food was promised for 15-minutes, but took less than 10 -- I like it when promises are kept or even exceeded. The pub had three distinct seating areas: outside in the courtyard, outside under a deck (sheltered, with transparent vinyl sheeting to block the wind, and inside. This is a place where you order and pay at the bar, then find yourself a seat. It's not fancy, it's not upscale, but it's solid with good food and brews. The service was friendly and competent, but young and a touch overly enthusiastic (I'm not fond of being repeatedly called "my man" - not so much because it's excessively familiar - which it is, but because the enthusiastic repetition of the phrase at every chance is a bit forced and formulaic).

Counter ordering as you come in, quick, helpful and patient while I tried to keep my dog behaved and figure out what to eat. I landed on the prime rib dip - the absolute BEST I've ever had. The pretzel bun texture alone is to die for, slightly crisp outside with a light and soft inside. The au jus loaded with onions (love!), and choice of fries, tots, or side salad. They have so many unique options on tap, but for us non-tap drinkers they have decent options for white abd red wine and champs. Bundled outside, I had the most attentive service as a party of one plus my furry compadre. So kind, personable, genuine connection between 4 different staff members! Aside from the ridiculous prime rib dip I'll be dreaming of, the kindness of the staff is unmatched.
