Great view of the rotary lights, yay for coat check. + Beef short rib ($42): very tender (7.8/10) + Beet salad w goat cheese, pecans, ($15 + $15 chicken thigh) w a fruity vinaigrette was refreshing. Pricy to add chicken but it was juicy and well worth (8/10) + Norwegian salmon ($38): best salmon I've ever had, cooked perfectly, not dry and nicely crusted. Served over lentils and capers (9.3/10) + Pumpkin risotto ($27): did not have any pumpkin flavor (5/10)

Located inside the boutique hotel - Charmant - is the bar and restaurant. The kitchen is open and there is kitchen side seating if you wanted to watch them prepare dishes... but it can be a bit loud. The server - Landon - was very professional and detail oriented when discussing specials and items on the menu. Had the scallops and they were delicious. The lamb dish was also very flavorful. Ended the meal with a well made espresso martini. The dessert options did not really appeal to us, so we did not partake. The restaurant is modern with a slice of steampunk with pulleys they suspend the lighting.

Croque Monsieur

While traveling with my friend, we were looking forward to a special brunch. Unfortunately, we didn't find it at The Charmant. Like others said, the menu is very limited. I chose the Croque Monsieur for my breakfast. There were many open tables, but it took us about 40 minutes to get our food. The basic scrambled eggs, toast and sausage that my friend received were okay. (They weren't soft scrambled, which I would expect at a French restaurant.) My meal was cold! It wasn't even slightly warm. The mornay sauce was filmed over. I did something that I never do, but I sent it back after two bites. This is a last resort for me. I can't remember the last time I did this. They offered to warm it up for me. However, the sandwich was already extremely dry (toast and ham), so I opted to get eggs, toast and bacon. After waiting a few more minutes to get the replacement meal, I was disappointed again. The over-easy eggs were cheap. Not much flavor. I couldn't finish them. The sour dough bread was delicious, as was the bacon, which was cooked perfectly. Between the wait and the disappointing food, I was saddened that we wasted $45 on this breakfast experience. They didn't comp my coffee or do anything to compensate for our time or experience. We did not ask them to do so and I didn't expect a free meal, but some effort would have been classy. Also, when my friend used the restroom, there were no towels to dry her hands. When I used the restroom, there was no toilet paper. If you're looking for a special breakfast, avoid the Charmant.

My wife and I had such a great experience at The Charmant. The food was delicious, the drinks were spot on, and the service couldn't have been better. Everything about the night just felt special. Definitely a place we'd recommend to anyone visiting and or living in La Crosse.

Food 5/5 - The eggs Benedict and stuffed French toast were great. Every dish was packed full of flavor and I would get again. Service / Ambiance 5/5 - The restaurant is located in a charming hotel. The service was friendly and helpful. Cannot wait to try this restaurants other menu options.

This place was right near the water in a very cool old building that was converted into a hotel. They had a lovely breakfast menu with espresso drinks which was perfect before we went on a long hike. Server was kind.

This year, we included The Charmant in our Christmas Eve itinerary. We enjoyed dinner first before heading across the street to see the Rotary Light Display. The front desk clerk was very helpful and friendly when we arrived and directed us in the right direction. We had a great conversation about cell phone cameras. Our waiter was also super friendly and very knowledgeable. I was wowed by the extensive list of wine, beer, scotch, bourbon, and whiskey. I enjoyed one glass of wine, which teased the thousands of taste buds in my mouth. The French Onion soup was the best I have ever had. On my next visit to The Charmant the French Onion soup is all I want. The scallops I ordered were served on a bed of wild rice with toasted walnuts. The rice was also the best I have tasted. Tony ordered his usual steak and really enjoyed his meal. The venue is amazing and the view of the Rotary Lights added to the evening.

We're staying at the Charmant Hotel in La Crosse for a second time. We tried the restaurant for the first time...and we're so glad we did. We ventured from our room to the restaurant on a comfortable Sunday morning and discovered that their Weekend Brunch is popular. Their dining room was "fully committed" per the hostess. She offered us seating in the bar with a full menu and service. It was comfortable and our server was prompt and pleasant. I ordered the Shakshuka with a side of bacon and potatoes. My wife chose the Charmant Breakfast with scrambled eggs and link sausage. Both were excellent. The stars of the meal were the crispy smashed breakfast potatoes and the bacon and sausage from a local meat purveyor - St. Joe's Country Market. I seldom use this statement in my review but I'm going to use it here - "the best bacon I've ever tasted!" - and that's the truth. It was thick cut, smoked perfectly, and tender. Grilled to perfection. The sausage links were also good, but not to the degree of the bacon. We both loved the crispy smashed breakfast potatoes. The eggs were expertly prepared, and the Shakshuka was flavorful with its tomatoes, peppers, and feta cheese. The Restaurant at the Charmant is a serious contender for breakfast in La Crosse. Get your reservations early and give it a try.

Mushroom Bolognese

The mushroom bolognese was the most disappointing meal. It just tasted like noodles and watered down mushrooms, no flavor at all. I took two bites and pushed it aside and just ate my fries (those were really good). Was asked if I wanted a box and said no. Surprised the waitress didn't ask why, she just took my completely full bowl away. I was also sitting alone and it wasn't busy. Did not get a water refill. I can't believe I paid $25 for that entree. Usually the food here is good, I don't know how that made it on the menu. Is there not supposed to be even a touch of tomato paste or cream or something in this? Just minced mushroom.

If you're looking for an upscale dining experience, the Charmant is a MUST. I stopped into two other spots nearby looking for a nice glass of wine and brunch, but couldn't find anything (even at nearby wine bars). Charmant's menu is on point, service is great and the environment is FAB for enjoying yourself. Definitely recommend!

High end restaurant within the boutique hotel that is The Charmant. What used to be an old candy factory is now turned into a hotel with this as its flagship restaurant, and within a small town like La Crosse, I was very impressed with the place here. ATMOSPHERE/ARCHITECTURE: 9/10 The restaurant and hotel are structured fittingly as a high end dining experience within a boutique hotel and makes for a great dinner spot. Overall the scenery and setting was nice for dinner. SERVICE: 9/10 Service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and familiar with the menu and overall, I had a good experience. FOOD: 9/10 Duck Confit - 10/10 - This was utterly fantastic. Very seldomly do I order duck off the menu at a western style restaurant as I am so used to Asian style duck that very little can compete with Peking duck. However, if there is anything that is on that same tier, this would be it. I'd have never guessed this would be that good. The duck was moist, seasoned to perfection and the citrus flavors of the sauce it came with complemented the dish perfectly. I cannot say that I have had a duck dish on this level from a western restaurant. Steak Frites - 8/10 - This was a pretty standard steak and fries dish. It was nothing that would stand out to me amongst other steaks, but it was not bad. Next to the duck though, this far paled in comparison. VALUE: 8/10 This is a higher end restaurant so of course, it is pricey. However, for what you are getting, I find it very reasonable. PROBABILITY OF RETURN: 9/10 I would come back for that duck for sure. TO EAT OR NOT TO EAT: Worth a shot if you want a high end experience in La Crosse. OVERALL: 9/10

I've never stayed at this hotel before, but I've always wanted to dine in their restaurant, therefore we decided to stop in for Sunday brunch. When we first entered the building, the lobby was quite nice, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The vibe was relaxed and not pretentious at all. The decor incorporated a balanced juxtaposition between rustic/vintage and modern/industrial. The interior still retained many of its original charms such as the dark weathered hardwood floors and exposed brick walls which blended seamlessly with the modern fixtures. However, I digress... When we approached the dining area, we were greeted by a friendly host and seated right away. I also had made a reservation earlier that week, which I recommend doing so for peak days and holidays. The dining area faces out to the park and river so I'd recommend grabbing a table by the window that way you can enjoy the view as you dine. I ordered the Smoked Salmon Benedict, Brioche French Toast (to share, and with no nuts), and my friend ordered the Shakshuka. Everything was visually appealing, and their presentation made the food even more appetizing. The smoked salmon in the benedict came through nicely and didn't compete with the flavor of the decadent hollandaise sauce. The benedict also came with a side of lightly dressed mixed greens which helped cut through the richness of the hollandaise. The French toast was alright, and not overly sweet, which I appreciated. However, I felt it was soaked in the egg mixture a tad too long because it produced a soggier toast in the middle and on one end of the toast it tasted slightly burnt as if the griddle was unevenly heated. Overall, food was pretty good, prices were relatively reasonable, and the ambiance provided a very enjoyable dining experience. Service was excellent and very attentive. I'd recommend it and I wouldn't mind returning again.

The burger... just great

If visiting the beautiful town of la crosse Wisconsin one would be remiss to not eat at the Charmont restaurant inside the hotel. We sat at the bar and had a fabulous experience.

There is an older jukebox available to play music, and the sound in that place was really great. They were closed during the pandemic I believe, but now they are open again. It's a swank place, and I hope that more people realize just how much fun it is to be there. The seats seem kind of retro and has a lot of big wide curves to it.
