To answer the Yelp question of what went well, service was great. Friday evening and we brought 17 for the evening. The staff got a long table with a banquette for us. They sent enough help to cover our crew as well. The Pretzel Nuggets with Cheese could have been dinner for me, they were that good. Other apps were equally as good. I had the Fish Fry which was very good. Nice coating that wasn't too heavy. It appeared everyone was happy with their selection. I had my first tap Yuengling. Nice and cold and quite good. The atmosphere was pleasant and you could even carry on a conversation and it was the end of Happy Hour. The owner even was helping bus tables and was great to talk with. read more

My sister has taken me quite a few times when I visit La Crosse. The food from breakfast to lunch is very good - I like the stuffed French toast for breakfast and the spicy garlic wings for lunch/dinner. The drinks come quick and cold. I've never had an issue with service. There are TVs for sports games and other events. They also have sand volleyball leagues you can sign up during the season. Classic country/dive bar! read more

Nutbush City Limits no longer exists in my mind. The new replacement does not come close to the ambiance and charachter of the old original. What were they thinking?. It was a treasure that is no more. They should have built a new restaurant at a new location and kept the original. Visited La Crosse when it was pretty cold outside. Schools were closed because of the sub-zero weather. The cold didn't keep us inside though - stopped at Nutbush City Limits for the first time to try it out. Got a recommendation from someone in our group to stop out because it was around lunch time and we were all in the mood for either eggs or burgers. The place had plenty of patrons and was clean, and people were friendly. The noise level was great, with plenty of conversations going on. Sat down to a table right away and tried their nachos, which fed three of us. Plenty of toppings, great taste, very crisp chips. They brought out the loaded baked potato soup, and I wished I had gotten a bowl of it. It was fantastic and warmed me from the inside out, which was needed on a day like today. They came back with the Barn burger, and it was excellent. Crispy bacon, a nice toasting of the cheesy hash browns, and all those flavors mixed together perfectly. This would be a great place to stop in with friends and watch some sports games. There is plenty of food for kids to eat as well, so bring them along! Shout out to Vivian over there. We have been going to Nutbush for years, when camping in the area. Way back to the old building. Breakfasts are very good. Bloody Mary's not good. Taste is good, but $7.00 and the garnish is a slice of pickle. Go to Ardie's and get a great Bloody. Pickle, olive, mushroom, 3 cubes of cheese and a beef stick. And what's with the Men's room door closer, it's been broken for like 3 years. Also, Way too noisy. read more

Unsure what's changed recently but it seems like the dinner food is mediocre at best. The pizza is basically served on a burnt tortilla shell. Our attendant was Paige. My friend and I met there for early lunch this morning, not too busy, Paige greeted us with a smile, let us know what was available for specials, brought us our drinks and gave us time to look over the menu, food was delicious, I had French toast, my friend had an omelette. Probably some of the worst dining experiences I've had in several years. We were told it would be an hour wait or so once we placed our food order. That was totally ok, we were happy to wait. The serving staff promptly took our order and brought me a coffee. After sitting there for 1 hour I did get 1 refill on lone cup of coffee. I ordered a breakfast quesadilla, which was excellent. My wife ordered a hash brown platter. The potatoes were entirely raw and cold once the food came out close to 90 minutes later. I requested to see a server, she eventually came back to us about 15 minutes after we had gotten our food, never once checked in after setting the food down originally. I'm unsure how it was possible to mess up a simple breakfast dish centered around hash browns. read more

Bad service at the bar . So stopped in about 11am for Bk-fast and see they got new menus with higher prices $14.50 a little high for cornbeef hash & eggs ? But the service at the bar has room for improvement , so she was to busy flirting with the same 2 guys & trying to look pretty for them , instead of coming to take my order ? There are other customers at the bar you know . When there are 10 to 12 people at the bar you are to wait on all of them equally ! Point is the bar will make more money when everybody can order more drinks & food . No masks on the servers. One looked at us 3 times without coming over to see what we needed. We asked her to please wipe off our table because whomever cleared dished didn't. We had called in our order to be ready at 11:30am. It finally showed up at 11:41pm. (I get 30 minutes for lunch). Many people only get 30 minutes for lunch. That's why we call in so we don't have to wolf down a meal. It wasn't that busy for the # of tables and the # of servers. Hope you all speed it up. Good food! But got turned away on Wednesday, the burger special night, because it was "trivia night". The hostess/waitress didn't even bother to tell us a wait time, have us wait, ask if we wanted to join trivia, or anything just was snotty and rude and basically said we should leave. We called back to see what the reasoning was why we weren't helped, and the same girl who turned us away answered. We asked for a manager, and she said she was (unsure about that), but then she hung up on us. It was disappointing, and we haven't been back since. read more

We love breakfast at Nutbush so we thought we'd go on a quick date night and give dinner a try. We were immediately greeted by Michael B who had a super friendly attitude. His sense of humor was exactly what we needed to get us in a good mood too. Michael grabbed me a cold draft and recommended the cod specials. The fish came out quick and was perfectly cooked. The tots were hot and crispy and the cole slaw was perfect. Michael checked on us and kept the same amazing attitude throughout dinner. I think lately we are happy to get any service and barely acceptable food when we go out. But at Nutbush tonight, we had great service from a server who clearly enjoys his job and successfully transferred his pleasant attitude to us, which put us in a good mood. Great local hangout. I sat at the bar, which was busy. Bartender/waitress did a good job keeping coffee and water filled and chatting with the regulars. Their bloody Mary looks incredible, with the Wisconsin beer kicker. Food was really good, I like that they have some healthier omelette options. Definitely a bar. An odd place for breakfast, but certainly worth the unusualness. Nutbusch has a huge breakfast menu with the standard items and a few surprises. The breakfast burrito was a typical b-fast burrito with eggs, hashbrowns, and roast beef hash all rolled into a flour tortilla and served with salsa. The pricing was a bit odd though--a portion designated for smaller appetites was only thirty cents cheaper. At the end of it all, though, it didn't really matter. The food was delicious. The service was a little slow but cheerful, the coffee was tepid, the food was plentiful. It's tough to find a place open at an early hour that isn't a chain, so I can't really complain. It's a little disconcerting to be in a bar and see the bar filled with patrons drinking coffee and reading the paper rather than having an adult beverage and telling ribald tales. Would I stop by again? Probably. It looks like it'd be a fun place to have a beer or two. read more

Love breakfast at Nutbush! I took my parents today and my dad had Eggs Benedict (loved and ate every bite) my mom and I split the stuffed hash browns. Portion was so generous that even with splitting we had leftovers. It's super yummy but a little greasy. If that's not your thing, there are lots of other delicious selections on the menu. At first we were checked on frequently and then our table turned into an after thought. One of the choices we ordered turned out they were out of so we had to adjust then. When the food was brought out the wrong side was given on one of the plates and instead of keeping the side on their and just bringing back the correct one the waiter asked us to put the side in a napkin and give it back to him saying "they're not just going to give you a different side." On the way to the airport after a grueling class of two weeks we got real hungry. We saw this restaurant on a sign and decided to stop in. It is like your local biker bar but the food was amazing. And if you decide to have a drink the bartender will whip something good for you up. Our waitress was very entertaining and kept us all entertained and laughing. I've been coming to this restaurant my whole life and I have never experienced this level of disrespect and lack of manors from the servers. Our food took 50 minutes to get out and when I got my plate it was cold. I asked my boyfriend to try it to make sure I wasn't overreacting and he said the same thing. They brought it back twice and both times it came back out still cold. Our server was very rude when I told her both times that it was cold. She argued with me and basically told me I was lying... why would I lie about that? I was hungry and we had been waiting for almost a hour when they only had six tables full. We were also sitting right by the kitchen and I overheard them saying things about me complaining. I will not be going back here and they need to fix their attitudes. read more

"Only In Wisconsin" is a common phrase I use. long standing tavern and eatery.. low class feel of come as you are and just be you... Well, there is nothing special about beer battered pancakes. I've had way better. The location of this place is nice since it's tucked off of the main road.
