In town for work and the hotel gave me a list of places to visit. The front desk receptionist suggested Bodega brew pub and I'm so glad I came. It was a Tuesday night and the place wasn't too busy so I sat at the bar. Delaney was a delight, made some great recommendations. Not pictured was the Wisconsin ale which was really good & the tomato bisque with the baguettes was a home-run. I enjoyed the crisp of the bacon and the flavor of the burger. Had a nice crisp and the chipotle with the onion ring & bacon went extremely well together. I loved how the fries were warm and crunchy. It didn't lack flavor either. They have many beers on tap along with bottled beer. I loved seeing customers 'Spin the wheel' as they drank whatever the number the wheel landed on. This is a great spot to visit if you're in town for work or visiting. The locals have a nice place here. read more

I got the Pusan Ruben which has kimchi instead is sourkraut. It was out of this world delicious. You can tell the brisket is cooked in house and all the flavors came together. Stopped in for lunch for the first time as we live nearby (we moved here recently). I was hesitant to eat here/stop in as I was put off by all the dusty beer bottles in the window. But once inside I realized those bottles are in an enclosed space in the storefront window display and the inside is wide open, tidy and clean. A really pleasant surprise! The menu was appealing, prices are fair and the service was good. Of the 2 sandwiches we ordered, the BLT was bland with the bacon too crisp for my taste but it was otherwise fine, but the other sandwich, the Cuban, was given high marks. Stopped in on Christmas Day about noon... was there a couple hours, the place just got busier as the day went on. I've been meaning to stop in since I moved my mom to the area a few years ago. I got the vibe the Bodega is an Institution! I love the old tap handles, coasters and world money that adorn numerous places! Elizabeth took great care of us...offering beer samples and making a delicious Old Fashioned! We didn't dine on the $15 holiday meal as this was a stop as our dinner cooked @ home. I liked that the tap lists are on overhead TV's and broke out by lists, such as Christmas beers. There was a good selection; the local breweries, several WI breweries and just good breweries from around the US and a few high ABV imports. The stool seating are regular height bar stools, so easy to hop on to and padded, thanks. The place never got annoyingly loud as it got busier, thanks! I love the whole wall of floor to ceiling windows! Street parking was easy and w a convenient 2 hour limit. Now that I've finally made it in I will definitely be in when I come to town. Best La Crosse beer bar Must stop when I'm in town I'm the Duke for now La Crosse is a really fun city to visit. Great people, great scenery (for the Midwest, anyways) and given that it's in Sconnie - a pretty big drinking culture. There are a ton of dive bars in town, but if you are a beer geek like me then it is the place to be. As their sign says, 400 beers, 15 taps and open 366 days a year. They are also open until 2:30 in the morning. I thought bar close in Sconnie was two, but apparently there a few places that keep rocking until 2:30 at least in La Crosse. Staff has been super friendly every time that I have been. On my visit today, they hooked me up with a little taster of a $170 bottle of champagne. Tasted like $20 champagne to me, but the gesture was much appreciated. read more

To start... we really enjoy this place however it's really changed over the last year over the COVID-19 season. Apparently all employees if not vaccinated will be fired. Well that includes our favorite bartender that was one of the reasons we loved coming in to Bodega. The overall all vibe has really changed the last few times we've been in. We also don't feel that employment should be based on employees being forced to take the vaccine. In the end the service has suffered, the fun lively atmosphere has almost completely disappeared. We are new in town and wanted to try out some local brews. Based on the reviews, we decided to pop in and give this place a chance. They offer a HUGE selection of bottled/canned beers, I believe over 400 of them, and 20 beers on tap! They serve typical brew pub fare that hits the spot. We decided to order the Braunschweiger & Onion sandwich (since it's a classic Wisconsin sandwich). The sandwich was very tasty, I highly recommend it, and the richness of the sandwich really compliments beer. We visited on a Monday night and it happened to be their weekly trivia night. We ended up staying for over 2 hours sampling beers, grabbing a bite, participating in trivia, and having a blast. The atmosphere was welcoming and casual. The staff is super friendly and informative (lots of good beer suggestions). They don't have their own parking lot so you would have to find street parking. Great service from Matt who had some very good recommendations for local beers on tap as well as sandwiches that the locals love. I ordered the AVOCUBANO -- a bit of a twist on their Cubano. Fresh ham, roasted pork shoulder, Swiss, sliced dill pickle, homemade guacamole on a Fayze's sub roll. It was great. I also ordered a CHILI DOG made with St. Joe's Meat's 1/4 pound Bodega dog, homemade chili, topped with onion and cheddar. I was good, chili could have used more spice. Matt was more than accommodating when asked to give a couple of samples of beers on tap from the area. Great place to hang out and do some work on your computer. Great furniture layout to just read a book with a great beer. The only drawback is, and I know it's a dive bar, they need to work on their bathroom. read more

Visited here this past Friday during the day.... The GOOD: The grilled cheese sandwich was made with turkey, how I requested. The bathrooms were clean. There are also many beers on tap and lunch specials. Oh and my other friend enjoyed her fish sandwich on brioche. The BAD: The buffalo chicken pizza had wayyyy too much bleu cheese...my BFF and I agree on that. The service was meh. They tried, but it wasn't busy and they could not keep up. The UGLY: The mixed drinks are TERRIBLE! Stick to tap. I had both the Bloody Mary and Peach Sangria...both very bad. I requested a medium heat Bloody Mary, as did my friend. After watching the bartender make another, I see why I hated it. She had NO CLUE what she was doing! At one point she added sriracha! That is a very specific ingredient and should not be added to a standard Bloody Mary without asking the patron. The Peach Sangria was weak and full of meh-looking canned fruit...oh and a fork! I guess to eat the fruit? No thank you. All in all, if you stick to beer and wine you will be ok. The food is variable. Good luck with that! read more

Thank you for opening on Christmas Day. There were such few options actually for travelers even the hotel restaurants were closed. We had really good ham and cheese sandwiches on a pretzel bun and a jumbo pretzel. They also had a great selection of beers. Really grateful they were open and they were busy. read more

Our experience here was less than desirable. Service was super slow. The food we ordered was burned and half was never delivered. Beers were pricey and tasteless (how do IPAs NOT have much taste?? ). Old fashioned was made with cinnamon Schnapps (what the heck??). The atmosphere was very neat (super old building with tons of charm), and they seemed to be dog friendly (I met a wonderful pup...most definitely the highlight of our visit). Very friendly bartender. Went around 11am in a Sunday, sucks they didn't have like a brunch/mimosas option but still very good. They had supposedly over 400 beers! Amazing! Only had an appetizer with a buddy and this place mango salsa was delicious but their guacamole sucked. It was pretty brown. If it was gonna come out this way than they shouldn't have offered it to me. They should've just left it out. I would've given it a 5 if it wasn't for that brown guac. So sad to be honest. LoL their beer was Fuckn amazing! Went down so smooth and has beer from all these different breweries and different locations from all over Cali! Loving it!! Not a Brew Pub. Yes, they serve Brews. No, they don't Brew any beer. ipso facto, not a brew pub. Not a Bodega either, for that matter. Can't buy groceries, and they don't store wine. The do sell some, but it's second to the beer. Having said that, pretty good beer selection. Decent number on tap, more in bottles. Limited hard liquor selection (the old crow it is not). Several wines. But face it, brew pub or not, this place is about the beer. They rotate through the taps so there are always new options. Food is good, very good. Not bar food. They make their own corned beef, very tasty. Not a large menu, but what they make is good. The location itself is...a little divvy, but lots of windows and was clean. Worn might be a good description. Service, thy name is surly. Fortunately the food and beverages are really good, because other wise Bodega would not get more than 2 stars. Barkeep was fine, but the wait staff...really? I would fire her in a New York minute. For being neither a Bodega nor a Brew Pub, good place for lunch. I will be back. Oh my gosh, I am so glad we found this bar. We had a great time here and even came back twice in one day (pre-show and post-show). Upon arrival, it is kind of confusing, so here's the rundown: It's seat yourself, first-come, first-served. If you want a beer, belly up to the bar and get one. If you want food, you go around the corner to the right and order at the counter. They give you a little number thingy and bring your food out when it's ready. The bajillion beer bottles lining the windows should tell anyone passing by that this is a beer lover kind of joint. As far as the beer: outstanding selection! We could have been quite content to sit and drink here for a long time. There were about 15 really stellar craft beers on tap. Then there are I don't even know how many beers in bottles at your disposal. Appreciated greatly that the staff unfailingly asked if you wanted a glass if you ordered a beer in a bottle. When we sat at the bar, there were two additional things of note: 1) The really cool copper round beer chiller wheel of awesomeness behind the bar. It's basically a giant round beer cooler with several tiers inside. If you hang around the bar long enough, you will see one of the bar tenders open it and use the lazy susan type rotating thing inside to find the beer they are seeking. It's kind of badass. And you can pay $3.75 for a random spin of the wheel to get the beer that you land on. If you get lucky, you might just get a bargain. Some guy who did this while we were there got a $7 beer for $3.75. It also appears you get a spin if it's your birthday. Food-wise, it's pretty decent bar food. We got the bruschetta with pesto, which was acclaimed as very good at our table. The chips and salsa were also a hit with those among us who like spicy things. That's not me but I could tell by looking that this salsa does not come out of a jar. I got the meatball sub, which was decent -- very flavorful meatballs, good tomatoey sauce and a nice soft bun. OH. And 50% off apps with Yelp checkin offer. Bonus! (at least at the time of writing this review) In all, we just found this to be a really relaxed and friendly beer lovers' bar. Bodega is fine. It's not particularly special one way or the other, but there's nothing necessarily wrong with it. It's a little trendier than your average dive bar in La Crosse, which is a nice change of pace. There's limited seating on the bar side, which consists of some high boys and some stuffy old sofas. If you want to sit there, best to keep your party small and show up on the earlier side. They do check IDs right when you come in, so make sure you have yours available, even if you're well over 30. The craft beer selection is impressive and does have some selections that rotate as well as some local offerings, but there's not much else special about the bar. The food is what everyone talks about at Bodega. I've found it to be a little much. You have to walk up to a counter and order, and their fare is eclectic and reasonably priced. Their servers will bring the food out to you, no sweat. Their spinach and artichoke dip (which is supposed to be one of their hallmark food items, or so I was told) was messy and had way too much going on. It was edible for a few bites, then I found it was too rich and I couldn't even come close to thinking about eating more, but I was still hungry! Overall, I go to Bodega because other people want to go, which is fine by me. I don't plan to eat there or spend extended periods of time there, it's just not my scene. read more

I took a friend of who was very hesitant about going to a restaurant. I told her if there are too many people or they weren't observing the masks order or whatever, then we would leave immediately. We entered and were greeted by very friendly staff and no one else at the bar or the tables. This was perfect for our situation but not the Bodega's. The food we had was excellent: artichoke dip with Panini bread. It's on the appetizers part of the menu. So good! I hope things pick up not just for the Bodega but for all restaurants. This place is my kinda pub. It's super laid back, they have a tons of beer on draft and some awesome mixed drinks. They have a simple menu for food but they serve till 1am which is a HUGE plus since I usually get in late from work. I had the pulled BBQ sandwich and it was bomb. The bartender was great and definitely gave the vibe of if you need anything just holler. Went here in the early afternoon on a Sunday. The place was not busy which was fine because I was looking for a place to study. It was quiet with some nice couches at one end. I loved the decor with the old taps around the edge of the room. The window areas were filled with tons of cool looking beer bottles. The bartender offered to take my order right away at the bar. The food selection was kind of weak. I had a ham and cheese on a pretzel bun. It was piping hot and fairly tasty. They seemed to have a special sandwich each day of the week. A friend of mine had a chili dog which seemed to be their main feature. It was cheap, small, and probably canned chili. I don't know if it was anything special. I would come back again to try some of their beers. They have 400 or so different kinds as seen on their signs. I may update the number of stars if I go back and enjoy some of the beers. Another somewhat surprising find in the great midwestern jewel that is Wisconsin! Stopped in for lunch early on a weekday. Honestly, I wasn't even sure if this was going to be the spot for lunch, just needed a place to hang out for a work call. Two of us came in and ordered one coffee with nary a concern from the excellent staff. We hung out for almost an hour and a half before deciding to stick around for lunch, largely because by that time it smelled amazing in the back corner near the lunch counter where we were seated. The place had filled somewhat during that time which provided a nice buzz; not loud but not dead. It's worth mentioning that during that entire time they were playing a great mix of rock and roll from the late 50's and 60's. The decor is great and the space overall is very comfortable and inviting. It feels spacious without being cavernous. For lunch I decided to try the Pusan sandwich sans 1k Island. This is a great twist on a reuben featuring delicious corned beef and WI swiss cheese on marbled rye with kim chee instead of sauerkraut. WOW, is this tasty! The kim chee is amazing and complements a lean but flavorful and incredibly tender corned beef to a tee! I would have loved to have just a bit more beef and kim chee on the sandwich which was somewhat overpowered by bread and cheese, but it's a minor quibble at most. Paired with jalapeno chips and a crunchy pickle for an extra buck, this was a really tasty lunch. Since it was lunch I decided to forgo the impressive beer list, but had it been later in the day there were some solid options to choose from. Instead I had an iced tea which was brewed to long and had become murky. Not terrible but far from a highlight. My buddy had a great looking custom salad and the SXSW chicken sandwich, both of which were also reported to be very good, although again a bit heavy on the bread side. All in this lunch cost the two of us less than $25 including tip and was WELL worth it. On top of all of that there was a flier on the wall for a special Dogfish Head tasting night that looks OUTSTANDING! If I lived an hour and a half closer to La Crosse I'd make the 45 min drive in a heartbeat! In a slightly more perfect world I would give Bodega a 4.5 rating, but since that's not an option I think a four is fitting. Slightly tweaked sandwich proportions (even if the price went up maybe a dollar) would probably push this straight up to a five (although a beer instead of the marginally disappointing iced tea would likely do the trick as well). Will definitely plan to stop in again the next time I come to (or through) La Crosse! read more
