My family and I visited Toppling Goliath for dinner yesterday. We were looking forward to dinner after a long drive from the UP. Immediately, Kari greeted us with a smile and sat us. Brayden promptly came and took our order as we were thirsty. All of the sudden, Clark joined us at the table and we had a quick discussion about beer. We then found out he was the owner. We discussed beer and he was very generous with his time and recommended what to try. We were extremely pleased with the beer. The food was top notch as well as we tried the burger of the month and a few pizzas. Will definitely be back if we are ever in the area. Highly recommend a stop! read more

Toppling Goliath Brewing - Lego pseudo sue - Breweries Near Me - Decorah, Iowa

This is one of those "destination" breweries that is as much about hosting events as it is making great beer. That said, the beer tends to be excellent (if they have it on tap). It's an enormous, industrial-chic space and is built for events and charter busses. Their patio is dog friendly but you have to come inside to order at the bar after checking in. The food looked decent and the pretzel was ok. Standard, uninspired brewpub food for the most part. Worth noting that their beer list isn't up to date so we missed out on a few barrel aged things they said they had. Basically you have to get there on release day if you want any non-flagship dark beers. It's a nice one-stop shop on a road trip for food and beer but I don't think it's worth going out of the way for. read more

Second time coming in. Can't say I like their beer but the food is tasty. Got a burger and cheese curds this time. Super filling. The fist time, we shared a crab Rangoon pizza, which was oddly delicious. Will definitely come again. read more

This was not on our hoppassport- so, not an official Hundreds of Hops Amazing Brewery Race Stop. We have been meaning to swing in for quite some time &, while on a bike trip, decided this was THE time to go out of our way to get here - scenic riding to an out of the way location, perfect! First things first, it's out of the way for almost everyone, no doubt. That said, once you arrive there's a large open parking lot & tons of seating, as this place is huge. We opted for bar seating, tho tables were also readily available. Speaking of huge, the tap list is also rather large. I love the way they do the flights, with no real set number, just as few or as many tasters as you'd like. Each taster has FANTASTIC signage, keeping you informed as to what you are drinking. We did a flight & 1 full high abv BA. The oktoberfest had lovely spice. This was also our lunch stop & we ordered a pretzel with 2 sauces - cheese & mustard, the mustard sauce is a sweet mustard, be warned & the cheese sauce was so-so. The pretzel was a bready-type, as in pretzel shaped breadstick. While it wasn't bad, it also wasn't that authentic Bavarian-style one might be expecting, as I know we were expecting it. I wouldn't order it again here. We also order the Blackened Mahi Tacos. These went nicely with the brews & we both enjoyed them. Initially, service was very attentive, and we were adding as we went. Once we stopped adding to the order, service tapped out & we ended up standing at our stop waiting for the bill. Nothing too drastic. We had both used the restrooms in turns while waiting & the bill came up just as the 2nd of us walked back up. All in all, pricing wasn't crazy high, service was good, the selection was varied & appeared to have something for everyone. The vibe was a bit underwhelming, perhaps because they had just opened for the day(?) We were both glad that we'd made the stop & there was only 1 beer from our selection that neither of us cared for. Each of us disliked 1 other, but that worked, as the other 1 did like it. The only real disappointment was the pretzel, as pretzel snobs... if there is such a thing as a pretzel snob... read more

During our trip to Decorah we knew this was a must see! I'm a huge fan of Toppling Goliath beers so I really enjoyed this place. It's right off the highway just east of town. The building is huge and classy. The main entry is a little confusing but that never stopped me from beer before. You enter into grand expanses and welcoming faces. We once again sat at the bar and checked out the menus and taps. Too many choices to narrow it down! You should just throw darts and let that decide! We skipped the food this visit, but got several great samples and a couple of nice beers! We enjoyed it while walking around and checking out the gift shop. The place is huge with a large second story full of seating. I am guessing they can accommodate 200 people. They had live music scheduled the next night so we missed that, but the outside venue it would be a great spot for outdoor music and sipping on some great drinks! We did not ask if they did brewery tours, but with or without it is still a great place to go. Next time we might even eat! read more

I'm going to give this a four, although I would've maybe given it a 3.5. We were visiting from out of town and everybody recommended we come to the brewery for lunch or dinner. Coming from a nearby small town, it was really good compared to the other options we had available so I'll level up. The space was big and was very suitable for families. The beers we got were really good and the cheese curds are nothing short of amazing. I got a chicken sandwich which was good, but it really wasn't anything special, as you can see. We did see a lot of people with pizzas, but we did not try any. I would give it a 3.5 just because our service was fairly slow (seemed to be fairly staffed) and we had to get some of the things ourselves multiple times. We had asked for a highchair and a booster and they did not come back with them and we also had to ask for silverware at least twice. It also took quite some time for a server to come greet us. Everyone was nice, but not overly friendly or memorable of an experience. I didn't take a picture, but I did really like their outside area although we sat inside. It looked like they had a great patio area as well as a covered option and tables with fire pits for when it gets colder. It looked like a great patio for a nice warm day. read more

On October 3rd, 2026 Clark Lewey, Barbara Lewey and Toppling Goliath sent a couple and a tent to the Hops and Harvest Festival in Sioux City, IA. The Siouxlanders who attended this event paid for tickets to attend and sample beer, these were paying customers. The Leweys and TG team chose a couple to send to Sioux City for their marketing campaign here, and either made the worst possible choice, or have horrible values and chose people who represent them. The woman representing TG was behind the table in the tent, not just lacking enthusiasm for the product but showing clear disdain and irritation with the paying customers attending the event. Her lack of attention, friendliness and service made us so uncomfortable that we avoided the table, as did everyone else. Groups of people gathered around every other brewery table, but TG remained empty while the couple got drunker and drunker. My pregnant wife and I attended the event to watch the game, while we socialized with people at any tent other than TG's. We snacked and met representatives of local organizations while we prepared to watch the Iowa game on the big screen. Very suddenly the man representing TG drunkenly stumbled from somewhere else, presumably another empty tent with another company's alcoholic representative slurring loudly and laughing. He looked at us, at the next tent over, and started shouting at my pregnant wife demanding some of her food. As he began harassing her his partner began half-heartedly saying "Babe, stahp", "Babe, stahp", "Babe, stahp". As other men around him began trying to control him, I ushered my wife away. Over the last two weeks I have thought about this event and have developed several questions: Why were your representatives so unhappy and unfriendly to begin with, do they dislike our city? Why were they getting so drunk, are they not marketing professionals? Why did they think it was ok to harass paying customers, are they unable to control their desire to drink alcohol and therefore lost control of their behavior? Why did the drunk man pick out a pregnant woman to harass, does he have a problem with women, with pregnancy, with children or with families? Does Toppling Goliath Brewing and the Lewey family hate Iowa, Sioux City and families? Do they hate community and treat communities with disdain by sending alcoholic marketing representatives with the express purpose of starting fights with locals? To harass families? I will never buy Toppling Goliath beer, and I will tell everyone who asks for a recommendation to never touch the stuff, because Toppling Goliath hates not only customers, but Iowan families themselves. The Lewey family should be ashamed, and needs to either reexamine their employees, or their values, depending on whether this couple represents them. However, the Leweys chose these two to represent them explicitly, so I can only assume that Clark and Barbara Lewey despise women, families and Iowa. read more

This restaurant looks like you're pulling up to a huge lodge. They had separate a separate bar area, plenty of dining area for a larger group and a small gift shop area. I am not familiar with the Decora area but I would assume it's one of their most popular restaurants. Food, service all great. Come for a meal or a great place for Friday nights. I had a cobb salad that was delicious and all the extras generous. It comes with a honey mustard vinaigrette dressing that I didn't particularly care for, but they did not mind bringing me ranch. I always order my dressing on the side, so if this happens I don't have to have entire salad replaced. I might add that the Vinaigrette was good, just a day where I wasn't feeling it. read more

This isn't a review about the beer, or the ambiance. The beer is solid - with the exception of the stouts that for some reason they feel the need to put artificial flavors in - but that's for another review. (Don't put artificial flavors in the beer, please.) I've sat on the inside and the outside. It's really a great space. I'm here about the food, and to be honest, it's not in a good place. I've been here many times, and each time, I leave thinking "why can't I get a good meal at TG?" The most recent experience was no exception. The service here is usually pretty good. Sure, during a beer release it gets crazy, but if you plan and think ahead, it's usually not a problem. The limiting factor is the kitchen. Now, don't get me wrong, it's a bar and I'm not really expecting anything spectacular. But how do you screw up a grilled chicken sandwich? You cannot put "brined chicken breast sandwich" on a menu and deliver a leathery, very clearly not brined, not even whole chicken breast and expect people to eat it. I'm not sure what kind of shredded chicken is being used in those wraps, but that chicken was already dead, there is no reason to kill it a second time. Burgers? Meh. It's really nothing special (please toast / warm the buns). It's not a scratch kitchen, and that's 100% acceptable. But for the love of all that is good and holy, somebody has to invest in the time and training to bring the back of house crew up to at least some sort of basic standard of kitchen competence. I'm not a big "oh they order from Sysco, they aren't a good restaurant" kind of guy. You can do very good bar food in a lot of different ways. Someone has to take the reins and bring the menu up to speed. There is nothing worse than leaving a restaurant hungry, and without fail, I wind up needing to go get something to eat after going to TG. I foolishly expect the food to be better the next time, and time and time again the football gets pulled back at the last minute. read more

On this stop I would love to recount what our group of 4 ordered, but we were so irritated waiting and waiting and waiting to get our server back to get us our check and then she couldn't even take our payment and so we had to wait again up front to pay we forgot to get a detailed receipt. Our food was decent as was the drinks, but we had to wait for those as well since our server couldn't bring them to us. We would have had a better time staying at Pulpit Rock for their Anniversary and eating from the food truck as the drinks were better there. It was like a party and everyone was invited. Toppling Goliath on the other hand seemed understaffed and overwhelmed by the amount of patrons they had and they weren't even half full. This place is like McDonald's compared to Surly Brewing being like IN & OUT. If you come to visit here and have to look for a parking spot, go elsewhere. read more

What a great place in a very unexpected area!! Beautiful, very large building with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy your time there without feeling crowded. You can view the brewery through several different windows which is a nice touch if you can't be there on Saturday for a tour. We hadn't eaten all day and it was 4:00 so we were super hungry and food service was quick! We stopped in on a Saturday at lunchtime. The place was busy but not crowded, so we had no wait. Service was great throughout our visit. The interior dining room is a large open space, very industrial, with the brewery visible through windows in the wall; the factory wasn't in operation during our visit. A gift shop fills one end of the dining room. We started off with the local cheese curds. To be pedantic, these are not curds but large cubes of cheese. That said, they are absolutely delicious, the breading crisp and wonderful, the cheese lusciously molten. I asked our server for a recommendation on the dip, and he said he liked the pizza sauce best. We went for that, and loved the combo. I was happy that they had one cider offering, a can from the local maker, Convergence. My husband got a beer flight. I liked how the flight was set up with cards that identified the content of each glass. I ordered the salmon salad. It was delicious. My husband ordered the French dip sandwich. He thought it was tasty, but strangely small, especially considering the $19 price. Overall, we enjoyed our meal at Toppling Goliath. read more

1/5 because 0/5 is not an option. The only positive out of this experience, was that I tried a new beer that was tasty. For a beautiful fall Saturday, the brewery was busy, but not that busy... My wife and I just wanted a drink. We were told that all orders had to be made in the "draft line" but that we could seat ourselves, we sat outside to enjoy the nice weather. Well, after over 30+ minutes of waiting in line (there was only 6 people ahead of me at the time) I was told that the item I wanted was not allowed. I wanted to sample their locally inspired products via a flight, which was featured on the menu. But the "bartender" who moved at half the speed of smell, told me that was not allowed. I half thought she was joking, as comic relief for the long wait to order in such a short line, but she was dead serious. "We don't allow flights unless you are eating here" I said that I've never been to, nor heard or a brewery that would refuse service of a flight for people that want to come and try their products, especially when the menu specifically featured a flight option (nowhere one menu did it list a policy regarding dine in for flights only) I ordered my wife's drink and I ordered a single glass of the beer I wanted to try. It wasn't until I took a sip that I saw there was a bug in my glass, and my wife's glass was cracked. Not chipped, cracked all the way down. I couldn't say or do anything about the glass, as I simply didn't want to waist more of our lovely evening standing in line. We finished our drinks and promptly left. We were extremely disappointed in the staff, the layout of the brewery (in ordering) the quality of service and lack thereof, and overall bad vibes. I would understand if there was a large private event happening, but there were open tables, and several people serving themselves for waters, silverware, condiments. Of all the "servers" I did not see any food coming out of the kitchen, and with so many people behind the bar, drinks were coming out at a glacial pace. (Mostly beers on tap) I will be purchasing more of the type of beer I had, Carmel Apple Fandango... however we will not be back to this disappointment of a brewery experience, and DO NOT recommend anyone wasting their time here. read more

This is a very hopping place cautious though if you stay to the left side of the bar, you're gonna be inundated with I would say I work in progress, ordering location. Great selection of beers. I love the idea that if you get the samplers they have the card with them. My memory doesn't last that long so it's always good to have a reminder. We ordered the barbecue pizza although the pizza was delicious. I think it was overwhelmed with the barbecue sauce. Once again tried the bloody Mary came with the meat stick that was fantastic and I completely forgot to ask where they get them from. I had some cheese in it and a perfect amount of spice. And if you're looking for merchandise, they are well above the rest. Looks like they have an upper deck for parties very wide, open seating and an outdoor area for those who'd like to be in the scorching hut or cooling winds. read more

We were excited to finally make it out to Decorah, IA and visit the brewery. We have been drinking there beer for some time now so it was nice getting to see where it comes from. We visited on a Friday evening and the place was pretty busy but we were greeted and seated at a table quickly. We chose to sit inside while we were there because the sun was shining and the patio doesn't have much in the way of shade. We noticed quite a few people sitting outside come inside to find tables. The seating area in side is quite large and I can see it getting pretty loud if it's crowded. We ordered the cheese curds for an appetizer and the TG Supreme pizza for dinner. Both were fantastic. The cheese curds were fried up well and came with a really great ranch sauce. Not sure if they make their own or not but it was really good. The TG Supreme was a nice combination of meats and veggies and tasted great. We both ordered an IPA and neither disappointed! read more

TG.... Are you guys ok??? This was AT BEST a glorified McDonald's. Poor service, the menu was awful and the beer selections have declined severely. First, I'd like to state that I have visited TG several times in the past. I was so excited to take my girlfriends as I had many amazing meals in the past with their vegan/vegetarian selections, and was confident we would all find something delicious. WOW. What a shock to see the "new" menu which had zero vegan options and the other items were basically an Applebees knock off. The sides we did piece together for a meal were ok and our one brave friend who ordered a chicken bacon wrap said it tasted like they made it hours ago and had no flavor or outstanding qualities. Our experience made me so sad and embarrassed for TG as we travel from out of state to visit decorah. We always look forward to our favorite pseudo sue and the menu, but sadly will probably never return. The restaurant was freezing, the service was not friendly, people had their toddlers screaming and running around at 9pm, just not what you want when you are looking to relax with a beer and food at the end of the day. If this is the demand here in decorah this is not it for your visitors. read more

This place has all the aspects that make a fantastic brewery! Plenty of space to host larger parties- there were quite a few people there on a Saturday night, but we had efficient service and no wait time. My husband loves the pseudo sue beer and was giddy to try a few more in a flight. We were seated next to a window that looks into the brewery itself which was pretty cool! As for food- seems like you cannot go wrong with anything, we tried the highly rated Sweet and Spicy pizza and it lived up to the hype! We also tried the goliath burger that was dang good. On our way out, we had to check out their merch section as they have really cool apparel, stickers, hats, etc.! We had a great time and would definitely go back again! read more

We were very excited to come here. It was a beautiful day, clear blue skies, lovely ride out here... Got there right when they opened, got a prime parking spot, everything was going as planned... (as a disclaimer, I am a pro brewery attendee & researcher. I have been to the best, and know how to do it, and also what to look for) The facility is really nice, really slick, though had a very empty and cavernous feel once you were inside. A couple dings. *The sound system was lousy. For the size of the space inside (3000+ square feet with a concrete floor) they had what sounded like one JBL clip 4 speakers playing. You could barely hear it, and it was not balanced quality sound. *No caps for growlers. I brought some empty growlers (from other top end breweries) (colored brown of course to prohibit lighting in to beer). These were industry standard growlers, empty and clean. And the did not have caps at this place. Also a disappointment, other breweries that I go to (Allagash, Fiddlehead, Black Horizon, etc... they have the caps. I think its a universally accepted rule and also a sanitation piece for the brewery to provide the cap. So I ended up not getting those taken care of - probably for the better. And finally the important piece, the beers. They were okay. Many of the beers tasted the same. Drinkable, but not out of this world. So, will not be making the effort again. read more

Toppling Goliath has been on my radar for several years after seeing them take some international awards in the past decade. I sampled their beers with enthusiasm when I came across them on vacations to other states before they finally started distributing in Missouri. Driving from the Twin Cities to the Quad Cities on a little midwestern road trip, I knew that I had to take the route through Decorah to stop at the brewery. We arrived on a weekday mid-afternoon and there were about 20 other people in the gigantic taproom. This place is huge with dozens of tables across the large space plus a second floor balcony, patio and bar. They also have a large overpriced gift shop and a seperate area for beer to go. Since I was driving, I did a 3 beer flight and shared a pretzel with my wife. I sampled the Blueberry Lager, Lemon Camp Shandy and a Munich Weiss. All were excellent and listed in order of my preference. Pretzel was good but our server was less than stellar. Although I'm glad that I stopped, the experience was less than I had expected. I was hoping for a brewery that was actually part of downtown Decorah, not several miles outside of it, in a giant warehouse style building. I'm not sure if they achieved their goal of toppling the giants of the beer industry, but they have certainly become one of the goliaths in the craft beer industry. Good for them and I'll still support them when i can, but the allure has faded a bit after seeing the operation. read more

My second trip down and I failed to take adequate pictures , regardless, love visiting TG for their food, brews, service, and atmosphere! Parking on site both times I've been have been fine although I could see when this place is bumping, it might get tight. The brewery is massive and so well kept. Really impressive from a look and feel standpoint. On this particular trip I came down with friends for a bottle release and got in early to try all the goods on tap as well as indulge on some pizza. I had no clue they did brunch so that'll have to be the next trip with a review . We split the Taco And Sweet & Spicy Pizzas which were equally killer. So full of flavor, spot on with their descriptions, and a great crisp to the crusts. The taco pizza is even served with a tray of hot sauce like you'd get at Taco Bell. Love it. I shared a flight of stouts which were all fantastic. We did the Meteora Barleywine, Term Oil S'mores, Assassin Banana, and also the Term Oil Pistachio, Vanilla, Granola stout. Damn fine selection that never disappoints. Also checked out the Luther Lager Blueberry Lager that was a bit more fruited than I would have expected but still tasty, and lastly Fire, Skulls, and Money hazy that I now need at home. Always a great trip down from the cities and the staff is always the best. Quick, attentive, polite. TG for those that don't know, is a gem on all fronts. read more

If you know, then you know: this place is a bucket list destination for craft beer enthusiasts. If you can find your way to the nooks and crannies of northeast Iowa, the you must make the stop to Toppling Goliath's brewery and Food Hall. Whether you enjoy ales or lagers, IPAs or stouts, sour or malt, Toppling Goliath has just the right choice for you. After talking about a road trip for a couple of years, some college friends & I made a pilgrimage for the tour and to be able to sample allll the beer. Toppling Goliath made that an easy visit, with the walking tour of their brewing facility coupled with the brief but rich history of this craft brewery. You even get to take the beer of your choice along with you on the walking tour! Pro tip: if in season, try the Oktoberfest. Malty goodness! The bier hall is expansive and there is ample seating. If and when you order, and you will, expect a nonstop army of table service personnel to bring your samples or food to the table. Outstanding service, and many of the servers are very in tune with their different brews. Can't make up your mind? Ask a server, or better yet try a flight of five small pours. You are *guaranteed* to find some thing that you would like, I mean, love. The soft pretzel with your choice of housemade beer cheese or house honey mustard (with a horseradish kick) is an outstanding leadoff hitter. Mingle that with a glass of beer and you are right where you belong, in Flavortown. TG distributes in 32 states (!), so you can likely get a 4-pack of flagship Pseudo Sue or King Sue near you. But if you are in a state where you cannot find their beer, or you want to save a trip, then you can get almost any of their brew to go. How convenient! For us, this was a destination, but for many fortunate people in the area, this is a treasure. Toppling Goliath just keeps turning out better and better beer, and given the popularity of their facility and food hall, it looks like the sky is the limit for everything. read more

Service was great, prices are about on par for a brewery. The menu has a few unique items that I liked. I had the Salmon BLT. I liked it a lot. Located in the fun, far away DSM suburb called Decorah, IA is a great brewery called Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. with awesome food. Taco Pizza: was great, only recommendation would be to serve salsa with the pizza. We had to ask for some salsa or taco sauce, and got taco sauce packets. Ribeye Lettuce Wraps: were ok, not great. Menu said "Iowa kimchi" which was really just sauerkraut. As a kimchi lover, I was a little sad it wasn't kimchi Not pictured were caprese pizza and chicken pesto pizza, both very good. I came here two days in a row while in town for a wedding and I think that says a lot considering we were there for such a short period of time! We passed Toppling Goliath on the way into town and I immediately wanted to go there for lunch. We came in around 3 pm on a Thursday so it was pretty slow, but we had great prompt service! It was a drizzly day so we sat inside but saw they had a great patio and opted for that when we came back the next day! The service both times was excellent and despite the second day being SUPER busy, we were sat quickly, the host and servers were so friendly and prompt. My bf got flights both days and LOVED their sour beers. They seem to specialize in IPAs, seltzers, and sours. They have great presentation for the flights- I love the little cards that they use to differentiate the beers. For food, we had the cheese curds both times- these are fantastic! I am something of a cheese curd connoisseur and I rate these very highly. They are complemented nicely by an incredible buttermilk ranch dressing- it is AMAZING. I also had a chicken salad sandwich which I really enjoyed and then a burger which was perfectly cooked and really hit the spot. The only thing that missed the mark was my boyfriends sandwich- it was pulled pork, ham, and bacon but it was all mushed up until it looked like a sloppy joe and while it was flavorful, it lacked texture so it was just kinda meh. But the fries make up for it! They are so crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. YUM! Save some of that ranch for these! I really enjoyed this spot BOTH times and will definitely stop here again when we're in town! Oh PS, according to my bf's brother in law, there is a noticeable and "disappointing" lack of TVs but that did not bother me. If you want to watch a game though you might be out of luck. read more

Never checked in on until after finished eating, had to yoink condiments from other tables. Honestly I think a take a number or buzzer system would work a lot better than what they're doing. But, food's solid, and beer. read more

I have tried the beer from here but have not visited this place since they moved from their old location in the city. After visiting I kind of wish I hadn't. I had an over priced mushroom and swiss burger and a few overpriced beers. The burger was just ok nothing worth the $14 they charged and the beer was good but not worth the extra $ they charged. The building was beautiful, and the service was good, the only reason it received as many stars as I provided. Oh and the fried cheese curds were good, not too greasy. Will I come back, doubtful. read more

Toppling Goliath Brewing - The bar - Breweries Near Me - Decorah, Iowa

Olivia was the reason for 5 stars, as well as good food and drinks. As the Manager today, she personally took care of us and our pups. pups. We will be back! read more

Toppling Goliath was one of the reasons we booked a trip to Decorah, so when we got into town on a Thursday night and were told that they had a limited menu due to a 'special event' happening, we were pretty bummed. The menu only included pizza and a pretzel. The pizza was tasty, with a zesty red sauce and a crispy crust. We didn't try the pretzel. The service was okay. There were many staff working, even though it wasn't very crowded. The person who delivered our beers got them mixed up. My mom was given a hazy looking IPA which was clearly not the blonde that she ordered, and my father was given a beer that we could only assume was the blonde. The 4 of us at the table all tasted each others' beers to figure out who had been given whose beer, which was funny but also made us realize that most of the IPAs on the menu taste the same. We had ordered 3 different IPAs but didn't know which was which. The tap list left something to be desired. A description of each beer would have been helpful. There were many IPAs on the list, but the only distinguishing information about them was their ABV. Aside from the blonde and a couple of specialty beers, the selection of beer really revolved around IPAs. Side note: Pulpit Rock (just a few miles away) had a much more diverse selection of beer styles. The staff was warmer and more engaging, too. We would have returned to this taproom for our second night in Decorah, but the first visit was a bit lackluster. read more

Toppling Goliath knows they're a tourist destination, and they behave like it. With an extremely efficient staff plan, vibrant and colorful beer flights, and multiple shops to visit, Toppling Goliath was a treat. I genuinely am excited to come back sometime. PROS: -Gigantic parking lot. Even with such a gigantic mecca of a building, you're less than half a block's walk to the front door no matter where you park. They're clearly designed for the traffic they get. -Super large building. Being ready for all of those customers also included a gigantic, two-floor brewery built into a warehouse. The tall ceilings and spread out tables really help make this place feel less overwhelming - even as every table in the place was full of customers. We never felt crowded or uncomfortable. -Same for the bathrooms. The women's had 4 separate "rooms" as stalls, and I never saw more than one or two of them full. I imagine they'll get a bit of line during events, but on a holiday weekend, it was smooth sailing. -Staff is on the same level. You have a single server you'll interact with who keeps all of the orders coming in, but your drinks will come out from a different person, and runners from the kitchen deliver all of the food. Everyone clearly had their own job that kept the beer coming out fast and the food delivered piping hot; it's clear they're used to running at capacity. -Large list of beer options - all with their own personality. Toppling Goliath is known for their IPA experimentations, but they had a large selection of beer to choose from. We were even able to introduce a non-beer drinker to a few options they'd like here. -They know experimentation is the name of the game here, and their flights are reasonably priced and very colorful. I think this is the first brewery I've seen where each beer comes out with a colored placard. It's a beautiful visual. -The pretzels and beer cheese are frickin' fantastic. They're a bit small for a meal, but at half the price of the entrees, picking up two of them is pretty filling as your meal. -Toppling Goliath is a bit pricier than most Iowa breweries and restaurants, but it's much cheaper than trying to buy their beer virtually anywhere else - including a grocery store. Their won awards have really driven up the price, and while you can easily buy it almost anywhere in Ohio, it'll cost you over $20 for four cans - versus the $12-$14 here. -Almost all of their beers can be taken to-go in a crowler or growler or 32oz sealed can. CONS: -I'm not sure if someone called off, but it was odd to see only one person working the To-Go Beer counter on the 4th of July weekend. We ended up waiting over 20 minutes to pick up "to go" beer, but the staff member was extremely friendly and apologetic about it. -We weren't super fond of the fried pickles. I've never had a place fry a full-length pickle; I'm used to the pickle chips. It meant the breading and the pickle itself never really came off in the right ratio in a single "bite"; it was always mostly pickle or mostly breading. Breading was really delicious though (so was the ranch!) read more

Toppling Goliath is to your average brewery as a Cadillac is to a Kia. That is to say, everything is bigger, better, nicer, and obeys the law of "you get what you pay for". There's a ton of indoor seating and plenty outdoors too. They have a great selection of beers (as you would expect), including some really premium, high end stuff, like Assassin. They know how to cook, too; I had a Meat Lover's Pizza that would compete with anything a pizza chain could put together. All things considered, I expected to find "that beer", the one that I just can't live without, but that didn't happen. Taste is a very individual thing. read more
