This Saturday, our bartender from last time was now the cook and a help to a newer bartender who was doing good job keeping the customers happy. Watching them work is a pleasure. I went by the…read moreprevious reviews thinking we were in for a great bar burger but both my husband and I were not impressed. Maybe this is the best in the area? But Lacrosse isn't too far away so I'm guessing not. We sat at a table so can't really speak on the service as you go to the bar to put your order in so very little interaction with the staff. Locals at bar definitely were something and gave us a lot to listen to... Won't go back.

Finally, I went to the establishment, and I liked its look and feel. The staff, while not overly friendly, acknowledged me. The bar was clean, and the drink and beer options were good. Some of the food items worth mentioning: the double Smash is solid and worthy if you want one of their more "plainer" burgers. The Defibrillator is really, really good! This burger is a lot of food, and unless you are under 25 and a glutton, I'd share this one. It is about 2/3 lbs of burger. The other part of the equation for this burger is that it has chicken fried bacon in it. Batter-fried bacon? Who'd have thunk? I didn't look, but if this is not on the appetizer menu, it should be. Cheese curds are solid and best eaten hot...of course The beer menu is OK. you will get a few stalwart craft breweries intermixed with your standard corporate beers.

We ate never getting refills on our drinks and than having to wait forever to get boxes and the check. When all said and done we did not receive any discount. I've always liked the Sparta side of Fort McCoy better than Tomah, as it just seems more like an individual small town versus a big-box thoroughfare. What a wonderful recommendation, I had a fantastic visit. My co-worker can second the old fashioneds! Staff was super friendly and service was attentive. Clearly there are locals and regulars coming in that know each other by name, but being out-of-towners we were still treated the same and welcomed. We sat at the bar (always my preference), but there is plenty of restaurant seating if you come here with a group or with your family. They have a decent beer selection on tap, and the menu can cover pretty much all appetites. I ordered the veggie burger, which was somewhat generic but nevertheless tasty and I ate the whole thing. Overall, I'd say the food here is good - maybe nothing crazy unique, but good, especially with the somewhat limited options in the area if you want to stay away from chains and fast food. I will absolutely be back for another dinner and continue to try out options on the menu. I'd really love to do the fish fry if I'm ever here on a Friday night. But, who needs dinner when you have dessert?! OMG I'd seen some photos of their desserts online, and even though I'm not usually a dessert person, these photos drove me here that night! Wow. The Brandy Alexander is absolutely incredible. It's large but my co-worker and I each ordered our own (and finished it completely). Anyone can make a Brandy Alexander you sip from a cup... but this was like a soft serve goblet of ice cream with the booze mixed in throughout. The BEST. I will be back here every time I'm in the area just for this (and then good food and beer is always a nice add-on).

It was a sunny late September day, and the view of the water was gorgeous. As we were the only people present, service was okay, and food came out pretty fast. We ordered cheese curds and two drinks to start. My husband wanted to try local Pearl Street Brewery, but they had neither of their listed beers in stock, so he went with Spotted Cow. I had a strawberry daiquiri, which had nice strawberry flavor but no notable alcohol. The cheese curds were good, the cheese wonderfully stretchy and fresh. My husband ordered the Pool 8 Double Cheeseburger with fries. The presentation is nice, with the onion rings stacked atop the burger to form a big 8. He thought it was all okay. I ordered the cranberry chicken pecan wrap. The wrap was great, with very fresh ingredients and lots of flavor. I ordered the vegetable medley as my side, though, and it was a huge disappointment. It had the taste and texture of a frozen, microwaved steamed vegetable mix, and all of the veggies tasted like the bell peppers. The green beans were rubbery, flaccid things. I never would have expected something like that at a sit down restaurant. So really, a very uneven experience here, and I'm not encouraged to return if I'm in the area again.
