We go every year many times, great facility...great view, service has always been 50/50...BUT today we had Sara!!! Sara was AWESOME!!!

We had read the not-so-great reviews about the very slow service and actually experienced it a year ago but decided to give them another try since places to eat on the river are few and far between. We decided to show up earlier for lunch instead of dinner. We arrived by boat around 12:15. (The public docks are not in the greatest shape) and found our way to a table. You do not see a hostess to be seated you just grab a spot. We sat in a section with 2 other occupied tables. The waitress was attending to those two tables but seemed like she was not seeing us. After sitting there for over 30 minutes one of our party went to the bar area and told the waitress we were there to which she said "oh I did not see you I will be right there" We then waited another 15 minutes before she arrived at our table with menus apologizing. We had all ready looked online at the menu so we placed our orders along with asking for waters which she said she would be back with. After waiting over 35 minutes for the water one of our party went to the bar to get us waters. after another 40 minutes our food finally showed up. BUT when it did two of the four orders were incorrect. One had ordered a club with tots and received the club sliders with fries, the other order also got fries instead of tots. We accepted that (Mostly because we did not want to wait another hour to get that food) and just asked the waitress to adjust the bill accordingly (Tots are a $2.00 upgrade). Unfortunately, when the bill arrived, we were still charged for the tots. The food was actually decent enough, but the service was really unacceptable. What was supposed to be a nice lunch turned into a 2+ hour ordeal. We will not be back again as I cant imagine what it would be like at a busy time. Management needs to really take a look at their staffing patterns and training of their staff. They could have a gold mine with the facilities they have but it seems they dont care. Save yourself the frustration and go to Pettibone or Huck Finns. read more

Came here to show my husband a good time, great food, with an awesome view. We had our server greet us immediately and get our menus. Bar counter was wiped off just prior to us sitting down and we joked with him that he anticipated us coming. He went with it and said yep, knew you were coming, I could sense it. lol. I don't understand the negative reviews. I've never had less than a wonderful experience here. I get that they can be busy and need to pause before they get to you. I get that the food comes out a little more slowly based on the crowds. But overall-- come on people. This place deserves at least 3.5-4 stars. They have happy hour and late night hour specials daily for drinks and specials for food. Some people are way too nit-picky. And if you're NOT one of those, then you need to come here for a GREAT TIME!!!! Oh, did I mention they have live bands AND sand volleyball on site most nights? This place is happening!!! read more

I have to say, visiting Lacrosse over 40 times in my life already and staying at multiple hotels, THIS is the hidden gem of the area. The outside tiki bar is where you can legit stay all day and night, with volleyball courts , lots of outside seating, they had a DJ this last Friday. Great service . Extremely unique and worth your time to come too! The food is ok. That's the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars, I ordered some boneless wings along with some other stuff, never got utensils or napkins. Also a word of warning, if you come on Friday or Saturday, expect this place to be PACKED, which it should be! When we come back in 2 years we are no doubt coming back here all week again! Editing review to 3 stars since I wanted to try their food again to give them another try. I ordered over 2 hours and 15 minutes ago, only to find out they aren't even cooking. The bartender who I saw working the last 3 nights was helpful and gave me a refund and drink tickets, but now I'm ordering somewhere else, quite annoyed. read more

Called to make sure they were open on a rainy Monday evening around 7 pm. Moxies didn't answer their extension. Called again but talked to the front desk. I asked if moxies was open, they said yes, you just have to sit at the bar. I asked if the kitchen was still open. The answer was yes, just sit at the bar. Ok, no problem. We arrive, order a couple of drinks, ask for the food menu and we're told the kitchen closed at 7. It was 7:10. I tried to use a $10 off coupon I had through BBBB and was told the owner made a new rule where that coupon can only be used between 10 am and 2 pm. So I had called to make sure food was being served because we came there to eat dinner and use the coupon and then was told I couldn't even use the coupon on the drinks. Sounds like staff needs more training from the front desk staff communicating with kitchen staff to the bartenders knowing how to punch in a coupon so customers can use it whenever. In the coupon it does not say specific times. Very misleading and poor training of staff. The bartender was extremely nice and apologized she couldn't help us more. read more

"Tiki bar" it is not... they don't make mai tai's? Or even know what that is. We had the waiter ask if they could make us one and his response was " I could ask but I don't think they are going to like it" uhh what? They are bartenders it's their chosen job to make drinks. Especially a classic tiki drink at a "tiki bar" after that interaction we opted to just get an app that could not easily be messed up. I can understand the low reviews now. read more

Biked to the tiki bar here for the first, now last, time. They have a lovely expanded outdoor venue but someone in management should be replaced. Main problem is SERVICE was horrible. We attempted to sit at bar but you needed earplugs. Could not get the bartender to come over so we could ask if he'd turn it down...there were speakers outside the roof too so that level of loudness not needed. Moved to outer edge bar...still had to yell. Now a partially shaded table. We tried to get a glass of water and a menu...waitress was too busy but said she'd get to us. Twenty minutes was too long a wait getting zilch service in loud, hot venue. We hit Tom Sawyers, which was just as busy but better trained help, quick service. Moxies was so inefficient! Put a water vessel out so huge bar can get water. Also, display your bottles / cans or have a list customer can look at to be ready to order. Whoever trained the 3 people we saw on Sunday afternoon at Moxies obviously had no specific waiters training...they really could do better even when fairly busy. What a shame such a lovely place has such poor service...and I heard at Tom Sawyers it's their reputation. Moxies CHANGE THAT. You can. read more

What a fun place we stumbled into on our stop over. It had live music which was really fun. People were dancing and having a great time. The food was good, we had the cheese curds (because well, we are in Wisconsin) and pizza. Both were delicious. Only reason it got 4 stars was the wait on the food. It took over an hour, but I think there was a mixup with our order. Definitely try it if you like live music! Fun place. read more

The food is okay, nothing to write home about but the service was terrible!! 180 of us stayed at the hotel next door for the Midwest Meetup--an event that took over a year to plan and which the organizers of the event worked with the LaCrosse Chamber and the police department and other tourism agencies to plan. We had 100 rooms at the hotel next door and the way the manager treated us was nothing short of astonishing and absurd. I could write it out, but you won't believe it. Here's a video you can see for yourself.. I actually feel sorry for this man. He must have such a sad life to be okay with treating people this way. Had a long Labor day weekend with my cousin at the attached hotel where Moxie's is located at the rear of the hotel on the river, I really liked the location. There were yard games, that was pretty popular. Lots of seating options.I only ate here once we shared the nachos, they were super yummy! I thought the prices were good. Had drinks there every night. We had a great time! 2 serves were really good, and 1 not so much though. It was fun watching the boats coming up and down the river, parties of people coming off the water. We heard a different band every night, so much fun! People where having such a good time here, and room to dance. I think there were 3 tables with firepits. It was the end of summer so just the outdoors was open. But in the cooler months, there is indoor seating. The hotel leaves something to be desired, but I would stay there again just for the bar and location. read more

Horrible service. Horrible. They even stop serving food by 8pm during the week. Servers told me they can't find anyone because the refuse to pay a decent wage. Looks like they spent all their money building a bar instead(only 1 bartender during busy hours) like I said. Service is horrible. Food is decent. There are other bars in the river with better service and music. The management / FB moderator even told me to find another place to spend my $$ at. Such a beautiful and fun bar. I live in la crosse and always love going there, but unfortunately bartenders for some reason always have a need to close early even when customers are there. Turn music off and start doing cleaning things hours before they close. Multiple customers asked for music and bartenders made some bs excuse as to why they wouldn't turn it on. Overall they just wanted customers to leave so they could close early. I find that VERY disrespectful. I have gone there multiple times when the bar was "closing early" why? We were traveling thru the area and was looking for a place for lunch with a view of the river. After driving around downtown several times we spotted a sign for tiki bar. Worth a look right? It was spot on. Not directly on the Mississippi but a channel off the Wisconsin side. Casual and friendly is what we found. The food was good and the drinks were cold. I had a respectable fish taco and my spouse had a wrap with really good fries. The burgers and sandwiches I saw passing by looked generous and filling. We would gladly go back again. I hope someone on the expressway passing thru looking for a decent meal reads this because this review is what I was looking for. read more

i would have given this a 3 or 4 star rating but an email I received this morning changed that. Went on Saturday July 9, great band, lots of people and overall service at the bar wasn't bad, though it seemed like a lot of back and forth for the bartenders, probably a layout issue. I bought drinks and paid cash for all the rounds I bought except for 1 which was on a card, used cash for the tip. This morning I received an email that notified me of a change in that transaction amount by an additional dollar. I specifically remember the amount and I know I did not add a tip as I was paying cash for that part. So I guess this is just a PSA to watch your statements anywhere. I was thinking after this, how many times a night this happens here and to how may people and no one catches it. Either the bartender or the owner is making out nicely. read more

Awful service but a great vibe. Will go back just cause it's so unique and seems to be where everyone hangs out. They were busy so I'd get it if we had slow service but we had no service. Waitress forgot to take the cardboard off of the pizza I ordered so the "handmade" pizza I got was really just a Jack's frozen pizza.. I was there drinking tonight and went to say bye to the bartender, who was a really good dude ....and the other bartender was like " leave dude alone , he's trying to do his job!!" Now I'm in this industry and don't normally leave these reviews but dude was a straight up asshole .....now....watch what you're doing and saying and who you're doing and saying it to, because I'm one of the best in this industry!! Customer service was TERRIBLE. Servers nor managers were able to accommodate my group. Things that were on the menu were not actually being served example: mai Tai. Asked if we could sit at a table and pull a chair, was told no.. asked if we could get a umbrella for our table, was told no (mind you it was not even remotely busy). Food was mediocre at best. I got the fish tacos and French fries. It tasted a little weird. Even the managers had an attitude and would make remarks while walking past our group. View is nice tho. read more

I have a very troubling complaint about Moxie's Tiki Bar's approach to Covid 19 during efforts to restart our local businesses. First let me say that being a boater we really want to see the Tiki Bar be successful so we can have a convenient place to stop for lunch. We recently stopped for lunch with our grandkids during a day of boating. We were very concerned to find that absolutely nothing had been done to address Covid 19. No hand sanitizer, plastic coated menus being used repeatedly without any effort to clean, no masking by staff, no spacing, on and on. The only place to wash was your hands was the plastic contraption that is used to wash hands next to the portapotties. They have always been hard to use, especially for kids. The foot pump worked as weakly as always and the design makes it hard to avoid contact with the plastic. It accomplished little in terms of contagion avoidance. I don't know how or when to consider going there again; how sad. Our second issue has been an ongoing one, Moxie's has a nice beach and a half dozen fun toys that our grandkids love. Despite the effort to cater to family clientele, there is no kids menu. We are forced to order full size adult meals that the kids never finish and we struggle finding something that they would like from the adult offerings you end up paying adult prices for a meal that largely goes uneaten. read more

I ate here several times during my recent stay at the attached hotel. The food was good, nothing special, but good. The best thing I had was a Cream of Cauliflower Soup that came with the Fish Fry. They have specials seemingly every day that make it a good value too. They also have a feature I've only seen a few times in my travels. The Bartenders area is sunken, so the bar is actually at a perfect height for a wheelchair user. read more

The atmosphere at the tiki bar is very nice. Out door seating, nice tables on a concrete surface. But that's where it ends. The food is average bar fare, but the service is terrible. Lots of wait staff, but most of them seem to be doing something else more important (not waiting tables). When they do come around, they act like they are way busy. If do you attempt to order your cocktail directly at the bar, you first have to fight for a space between the chairs that are tightly packed in. Once at the bar, you get served (after waiting) by a bartender that it seems is having a very bad day. I get it, this is a business, and they are there to make money, but a smile wouldn't make your cheeks crack, and it would probably improve your take home. I hope they get it figured out. Could be a great place to eat, drink, and listen to live music. read more

The place has a lot of potential but the service is really bad. if there's more than ten people here it will take twenty minutes to get drinks. The bartenders range from friendly to rude. More than once when I've tried to place a drink order I've been told to wait my turn and ill get to you when I'm done.... this is not the way to talk to customers. I ordered two beers the girl had to go to the register to find out how much they were then back to me to collect the cash then back to the register to put the money in and then got the beer to give to me, Very poor training, The place is a nice building and has a great view but it needs to be managed better. the food is notoriously slow as well. read more

Moxie's is normally our go to place for burgers. Expect to wait sometime for your meal. However, today's service was horrible. They need to hire more cooks. We waited almost 45 minutes for our burgers. The waitress first came to us 20 minutes saying that we were going to get our food very soon. We had no problem with that. Then 15 minutes another apology and few minute after another apology. When we finally got our food 45 minutes later the burgers were burnt and dry. It was definitely not worth the wait. It was a huge disappointment and we will most likely will not be returning. Also, if you are going to be closing the inside bar/restaurant, you need more tables and waiters. So many left trying to find a table and not having enough waiters resulted in such poor service. read more

On the river with my husband...we decided to stop at Moxies for dinner on the patio at 5:00 pm. Lots of open tables...not real busy. We sat down...waited 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge we were there. I ordered a mixed drink, my husband ordered a beer. She asked if we were going to order food...we said yes..she proceeded to say it would be a 30-45 minute wait. We were stunned as it wasn't that busy & most of the people already had their food. We said okay & waited for her to bring our drinks. Waited another 10 minutes...no drinks. She came back to our table & asked if we were ready to order. We said no...we didn't want to wait that long to eat. Waited some more...no drinks...we left. We were planning on bringing a group of people on July 4th to Moxies. It was a nice Tuesday evening so I understand and expected it to be busy. I, however, thought it should have been better staffed. I only did see two servers. It took over an hour and fifteen minutes for us to get our food (we only ordered salads and appetizers) and my son went without a beverage for most of that time. Only until after 15 minutes that we had our food did he get a refill. My daughter's meal as well as our wings were incorrect. When I questioned it I was told that the waitress had put the order in correctly and that it must have been prepared incorrectly. Nothing after that, not even an apology.
