This is definitely THE Friday night nightlife spot around this area. They also have Pool, darts and foosball, pull tabs, and video poker. A digital touchstone jukebox, and TVs with sports on.

We headed up from Chicago to do a little camping and canoeing and had a great time. Traders came recommended by a friend and I can see why. When we arrived on Friday there were thunderstorms so we were advised not to head out to the river and start our trip. Instead, we were escorted down to a campground a few miles from the restaurant, down by the river. (Bonus points awarded for Traders taking our best interests to heart and not allowing us to head out into the storms, as they would have made more $$ if we had paid for a night of canoe rental vs. just campground rental). The campground was fine ($15/night), had very clean porta-potties and firewood available at the bar ($5/bundle). The next day we headed out on our canoe trip. The staff was helpful in deciding how far of a trip we should take (20 miles), picked us up from the campground (where we left our car) and dropped us off upstream. Canoe rental was $45/per canoe /per night (we made our reservation ahead of time). Once you start your canoeing you can stay overnight essentially anywhere. There are lots of sandbars and islands along the way, you just need to pick your spot! This clearly is a popular adventure for lots of people, don't come out here if you're expecting solitude and isolation. I'm not saying it was over-run, but there were definitely always people within eyesight. If you pick a big sandbar you'll probably end up with neighbors, just fyi. Everyone we encountered was friendly and fun, so we didn't mind... it just wasn't the back-country I was expecting! A lot of people also bring their dogs along, so feel free to do that if you have a dog-friendly canine companion. Staying on an island or sandbar means finding wood / kindling is difficult. I would recommend bringing your own or buying it from the bar. Dry bags (waterproof bags) are definitely a good idea. We didn't tip, but it wouldn't have been hard to. The river really varies in depth - one minute it's uber shallow, the next there's a sudden drop-off. Rumor has it the current is deceptive and pretty strong, so have those life jackets on or really close by. How far you should choose to go is dependant on the weather. We did 15 miles against the wind and it took us about 6 hours... but most people said it was windier than they'd ever seen before; usually I think you can do a lot more floating and the current carries you. Day #2 we did 5 miles in a little over an hour... I think that's a better indication of how fast it can go by (that was with paddling most of the way, not floating). BOTTOM LINE: I would definitely go back and definitely use Traders again! Fingers crossed for better weather next time.

The space is located along the Wisconsin River and the large windows in the cafe allow for a breathtaking view while enjoying lunch. The menu is quite small which I appreciated but still had a hard time deciding what I wanted to enjoy because they all sounded so yummy. They use fresh local ingredients as much as possible ensuring that they support the local region and aligns beautifully with the concept of Frank Lloyd Wright. It was a rainy day so I opted for comfort with grilled cheese and a soup of the day. The gooey cheese sandwich with aged cheddar and Gouda paired perfectly with my potato bacon soup. My friend opted for the kale chicken salad that included ingredients for a scrumptious fall salad with pepitas, cranberries, butternut squash, goat cheese and sherry shallot dressing. The set up is order at the counter, find a seat and they bring your food to you. It was a really quiet day and our food came out quickly. The staff seemed to be out of sight much of the time so if you needed something it was a little bit of a wait. I had asked for a box but they didn't bring it and I ended up having to ask again.

The…read moreplace is so cool - it still has the old exterior of the Spring Green State Bank and a very cozy atmosphere that still makes you feel like you're back in the bank... just elevated. There was even a children's section where kids could play around and be supervised by a parent with a drink or something. Great classic kids books in there too -- love the Busy World of Richard Scarry. I would have given this a 5star review because my food was overall 5star, but there were just too many issues in timing and service and such not to make note of. This was an event where all tables were sat at the same time. Tables were getting their first appetizer before we even got our drinks, and our drinks didn't come out together at all. One person in our party had Celiac but they forgot to bring out a gluten free appetizer, so the rest of us finished our appetizer before she even got hers. Probably not what staff was used to with everything at the same time, I get it, it just wasn't a very good start. It was also freezing to start inside and I kept my jacket on through the first course. Then it warmed up. Old building with radiators, also totally get that, but if the seating was staggered and that front door kept opening, it would have been miserable. After our drinks and appetizers, timing worked out on the rest of the meals. Everything was wonderful and the menu was so thoughtfully laid out. The only other snafu was our secondi course of pappardelle with wild mushrooms had no mushrooms in it, like zero. The gluten free dish had a ton of them and looked really good. It wasn't worth bringing up given the timing issues, and even without the mushrooms the pasta was absolutely delicious. Scallops were cooked to perfection, though if the risotto had saffron in it I couldn't tell at all. Still, I didn't leave one single scrap on ANY of my plates. Despite any issues, the staff was so kind throughout and they were all obviously rushing around trying to get everyone everything they needed. Great food, lovely staff, amazing ambiance -- yes, I'll definitely try to come back here if I'm ever out this way.
