I found out about this place after visiting Cave of the Mounds. I was initially looking for a nice brewery, but this place had great reviews, so I decided to give ciders a try. I was very pleased. Brix has a very nice cider selection. I got the flight which comes with 4 ciders of your choice. I chose Troll Juice which is a honey wine that packs quite the punch for a cider. The Cosmic Queen was pretty light in taste but not overly sweet. The apple and raspberry was a great mix. My personal favorite was the Watermelon Mojito, it was so light, very refreshing and delicious. I love mint, so this was right up my alley. I could have had a handful of those! Lastly I had Jam Sesh which was a bit too sweet for me but it was still pretty tasty. The Honey and Strawberry taste was pretty prominent, but I did taste a bit of the apple. First time at Brix Cider today. Super friendly staff. Great cider and the food was a pleasant surprise. Loads of locally grown ingredients, and you could taste the difference. Everything was fresh. The menu items were interesting. We had a beet and blue cheese salad and the chicken shawarma. Both were delicious. The menu isn't large but our group of six sampled a number of different items and we all decided we have a new favorite place to stop when cycling through Mt Horeb. read more

What a cute little cider cafe/bar in Mount Horeb! The ladies kindly pronounced Horeb for me because I was confused if the "w" was just missing. Haha :) jk I came on a weekend where you were allowed to drink in the streets! That's fun. I was able to take my cider to go! But otherwise they offer a very quaint sitting area. The ladies serving us were soooo friendly! I ordered the Mellow Mel cherry on cherry. It was good! It was nice because it wasn't overly sweet. My friend got himself a cute little espresso. Over price hype! Sat outside. Special was 8 BBQ chicken wings for $6.00. Grilled cheese on sour dough $13. You order at the counter, no waitress. I also ordered $4 apple cider in a can. We waited so long for the food, my friend said they probably had to catch and butcher the chicken! The grill Gouda cheese sandwich was a total waste of money. It was flat, like less than a 1/8 inch of bread barely tastes the cheese. Couldn't tell if it was sour dough. Came with 3 sides of different chips. Choose the purple corn chips. At least they were good. The chicken wings weren't hot, undercooked and tough. I asked for a To Go box. It came in a cardboard package with foil. The foil wouldn't stay on the container. The waitstaff said they improvised because they didn't have any To Go boxes. I went back inside and asked for a plastic bag to carry the chicken wings in my car. She handed me a To Go box!! I said the waitstaff said they didn't have any. She said they do, but in limited quantities so they weren't giving them out!!! I normally write reviews and try to find something good to say. If you like hard cider, this is the place for you. This inviting space is just a block off the main drag in Mount Horeb. It's very roomy with lots of local foods available for purchase, coffee drinks, hard cider, fresh cider, sandwiches, salads and brick-oven pizza. They have a huge outdoor space with tons of picnic tables and even a little stage for open mic nights. I tried the Apple Walnut salad and my husband had a margherita pizza. We're not drinkers so we tried the fresh cider. The apple walnut salad was very generous and full of walnut halves, fresh apple pieces and cheese on fresh spring mix. I was very pleased with all the fresh tastes. My husband feels he's a pizza officiano, so he was eager to try their brick-oven pizza. He was a little surprised that the crust was thicker than expected. The price for his pizza was a bit steep, $15. It had good crunch, but the flavor was kind of bland. We had a lovely visit to Brix Cider- it was about a 25 minute drive from where we were in Madison- but it was worth it. Each of the adults had a cider flight and really liked most of them (the old-fashioned based one was my favorite). We also tried the two flatbreads they had on the menu that day (not sure if they are permanent or if they rotate) and they were delicious- I would absolutely order those again- but the greek one with kalamata olives and feta was my favorite. This was the first meal we had out with my niece- and it was nice that they had a large indoor and outdoor space that certainly felt welcoming to young children (we chose to eat outside). There was an open mic night going on outside the night we were there and that was also lovely and contributed to the ambiance. I would definitely go back! read more

I loved this space, the people, and the food. I enjoyed tasting the different ciders though the majority of my samples were dry to the core. I would definitely stop in again, especially when they're playing live music next to the giant art of the pig. This place has surprising good food and is reasonably vegetarian friendly. The BBQ mushroom sandwich was really good and their smashed potatoes are to die for. Service was friendly and OK for what it is (order at counter / coffee house style) and this is basically a coffee house type restaurant ambiance wise that specialized in ciders. Their ciders were really good, but a bit pricy. 10oz runs around $7 after taxes per glass. I tried the "Troll" and the "Autumn" on the dry side of things and highly recommend the "Autumn" if they have it when you visit. The food is quite good but this review is negative because of all the issues I have had with carryout. Order a gyro, sauce on the side, no feta. Get home, feta and sauce on the gyro. If it happened once I'd let it go. This doesn't seem like it would be that difficult. If you order carryout from them i suggest checking the order before you leave. Visited with a couple friends to try their cider. Of course, I ordered a flight, and the flavors were fun and unique but none were *super amazing* (just my opinion). Also, for flights specifically, it is a bit pricey for how much you get, which I say because they are definitely smaller in comparison to previous years - cider used to be served in stemless wine glasses, but now it is served in little mason jars. Inside, there is a little area where they sell snacks, trinkets, etc. and outside, there is a lovely patio with picnic tables, which is also dog-friendly. We drove through Mt. Horeb today on a spur of the moment adventure at Cave of the Mounds. We walked around downtown and right when we were going to leave and hit up a drive through near Madison, we walked by Brix just off the Main Street of downtown Mt. Horeb. What a gem! It has a modern hipster vibe and offers flights of cider on tab with a farm to table menu. We ordered garlic & herb brats and then shared a cider flight (honeycrisp, raspberry, wild, bourbon). The food was delicious and unexpectedly fresh. The ciders were amazing -- better than flights we've had in big beer cities in Colorado. The tables are big enough for small groups or for someone to camp out for the day and do work. It's like a big coffee shop but with cider and brats instead of coffee and cakes. Having recently moved to Madison from Western NY state we were on the lookout for cideries since they were very common in the apple country in Western NY. Finally we found this one in Mt Horeb. We were on our way back from a winter hike at Blue Mound State Park and our friends suggested this place for lunch. They had stopped here before but it was closed. We ordered a number of ciders - I got the dry hopped cider and it was very good. The non-alcoholic cider was also quite good. Lots to choose from - perhaps someday they will bottle/can them and distribute in Madison so we have something more local than the so-so national brands. We also ordered lunch - I got their grilled cheese (gouda) with caramelized onions on a delicious bread. It was very good. It came with a small side salad which was a nice touch. The red beans and polenta dish, also with a salad, was very good and the dressing was tasty. We will stop again especially in summer since it is right on the Military Ridge bike trail. read more

This is the favorite new haunt of a friend of mine. He finally managed to get me out to try it. Definitely a cool spot if you are in Mt Horeb. I am not sure I would drive in from Madison. Possibly. They have an outdoor patio where they have live music during warm weather. Appears to be a mix of folk, jazz, similar styles. Inside is a bit echoey and impersonal, and definitely hipster, with lots of bare Edison style light bulbs. I'm not really a drinker, but I like regular apple cider, so I tried several cider samples. To me, most of them tasted like fruitier beer. The sweetest one was my favorite. They do let you try as many samples as you like for free. At my friends recommendation I tried the Croque Monsieur special, which was a fancy ham and cheese sandwich. It had cheese inside and outside of the bread. Flavor was excellent. My only issue was the ham seemed a little light in comparison. I wouldnt have minded a thicker cut. It came with a variation on a tomato and cucumber salad. It was $12.50, definitely on the steep side for a sandwich, but it was a hearty sandwich. I'm sure I'll be back, but I probably wont be racing to go. read more

This is the real deal, and there's quite the selection, to boot. This is the kind of cider that really lets the character shine in each batch--no need for extra sugar. Each flavor is entirely different: Order a flight to try 4 at a time! Weeknights here are where beleaguered coworkers and stretched-too-thin parents come to wind down, and it can be a bit confusing to be there at an after-work happy hour while children are galloping around the dollhouse and Hot Wheels. *Yes, you read that correctly. If you don't like to mix children with bars, maybe stay out. They don't just allow them... they INVITE them with toys and playsets and trolls. This is a cute cidery in a cute town just outside the city. It's a tasty little stop on your way back from Blue Mound or after skiing at Tyrol Basin. They've got heated outdoor seating that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to reserve (it's almost like they realize it's a pandemic and there's record unemployment). They greet you very warmly and were patient in helping us to decide what to drink and eat. The food is most excellent - I loved both the apple bacon sandwich and the goat cheese pizza! The cider was adventurous and mostly good. Although you can tell that they're still a bit rough around the finer points of cider (which is the ONLY reason this gets 4 stars). The bourbon barrel-aged cider was my favorite - and I don't generally like bourbon barrel aged beer/cider. I also really like the Saskatoon cider. Ooooh also, a little after-dinner coffee never hurt and they brew some delightful local beans there. PS they do have at least one beer on tap for those craving some gluten in your drink! read more

So disappointing!! What the heck is with these five star reviews? Friends and family? Employees? I only review the extremes: extremely good or extremely bad and Brix was extremely bad! Vacationing in the Mount Horeb area, we stopped in because, well, I've made hard cider a couple times and it usually comes out pretty good. I like cider. A mircro-cidery!?! I'm in. How cool!! Nope. The Brix employee was nice enough to give us the full rundown of all of the different ciders and one local craft beer they had. We got a full flight between the four of us - a total of 12. OK to the the cider - because that's all we had. Watered down. Every single cider we were served was watered down. I've made cider I know what it should taste like and I certainly know what 6 or 7% alcohol tastes like - this ain't it. The only 'cider' that had the actual alcohol content as stated was the mead - the Dancing bee Cyser, which we actually enjoyed. The rest tasted watered down and diluted in flavor - probably for the best, actually. Sulfur. Most of these ciders wither tasted, smelled or tasted AND smelled of rotten eggs. (Hydrogen sulfide). Terrible, unpalatable and dissappinting to say the least. I know, I know; a micro- cidery!?! How exciting! All 4 f us suggest to skip the dissatisfaction and go to New Glarus! I went here during my family camping trip and we all enjoyed the visit. The lady who rung us up was very friendly and the building has a nice atmosphere. The mocha I had was great, my grandma enjoyed her decaf cappuccino, and my mom, aunt, and uncle tried some cider. I'll definitely be back if I'm ever in the area again. read more
