I'm really impressed this place could accommodate our large party without a reservation! We had 12 people, which included 2 toddlers, and we were seated relatively fast. There's plenty of seating and things to do outside if you're waiting for a table, and they have a bar outside as well. Once we were seated, we ordered drinks and then appetizers. Unfortunately, our section of the table got skipped over when appetizers were ordered (we had a large group; I understand how it could happen), but because of that, our appetizer came out later than everyone else's. We ordered cheese curds, and they were delicious! For my meal, I ordered the shrimp scampi. The garlic toast that came with it was pretty burnt, but the shrimp scampi itself was delicious. It was one of the better meals I had while visiting Wisconsin. Even my 1-year-old enjoyed it! My husband asked for no onions on his meal, and it came out with onions anyway. Easiest five stars I've dispensed in awhile! A festive looking place with outdoor seating, heated patio, (with blankets in case you have a chill), never seen anything like that. Talk about considerate. I've never had walleye with sauerkraut but as a Walleye Reuben all the elements of a proper Reuben mesh together. Generous serving with thousand island dressing slightly dripping out. Re-tingles my appetite now just writing about it. Sandwiches come with a selection of sides. There are many choices of sides. Quick count 24 sides, I settled for the garlic toast. Super friendly service, got our drinks quickly and food arrived a little later, but not delayed. There with two friends we just lingered and didn't really want to leave, but life calls. When in this part of the state will have to revisit. read more

Red pines is the cutest supper club. We got to seat in their outdoor section that was heated and had blankets and had a gorgeous view of the river. I got the Bloody Mary and I loved all the toppings (cheese curds, beef stick, olive, pickled mushroom). It could have more seasoning though. I ordered the Chipotle chicken wrap and it was amazing!! It reminded me of the cantina chicken taco from TacoBell. The chipotle sauce was the perfect amount of spice and I loved how crispy the chicken was. I haven't been there in a little while but the cheese curds are the best in Wisconsin.The burgers are great too but their menu will have something for everyone. All you have to do is look at the traffic every day...it is busy. Go early and on a nice evening sit on the patio. Overall one of the best restaurants around. read more

The grounds are beautiful! You can choose this restaurant or the relaxing cafe where the food portions are generous, well priced and delicious - of course to mention their award winning cheese curds! Indoor and beautiful outdoor seating at both places to experience the peaceful surroundings. Airbnbs on the grounds to take in nearby sights during your stay or to relax - ours was fantastic with a clean and welcoming feel. The restaurant has Wednesday International specials and other fun events including live music mentioned in their monthly newsletter which is online and in person. The sunset views are amazing. The red pines has become our go to place. Went to the Friday fish a couple of weeks ago everything was great staff etc. but go early if want to get a seat. Went again today I must say I am getting addicted to the Schnitzel Sandy with there home made chips. Seems like it's my favorite but never have been disappointed in the service, ambience or menu!!! Arrived about 1:30pm, the place was full. Beautiful setting and We were seated promptly and could even sit at a window looking out at the lake. Service was quick and we were happy to see Fresh Lake Perch on the menu. That was an easy decision- the choice of sides were plentiful. Took my mom out to dinner here last night, Wednesday. We arrived about 5:30....full parking lot as a lovely end of summer/start of fall evening, despite the near perfect weather, we didn't ask for deck seating. We had asked for a standard height table to which the hostess informed us that would be around a 20 minute wait. I reluctantly caved and said a high top table would be fine. To my delight the tables had comfortable and easier to hoist my shorter frame up on to, thanks Red Pines! The place was bustling but the volume wasn't irritatingly loud, again thanks Red Pines! Our table wasn't far from the bar and my mom commented "wow they have four bartenders!" So... if you're thinking of having a libation while you wait for your table, or just coming in for a drink? Fret not, you will be taken care of! In my photos you will notice a high top near the hostess stand, that too is a place waiting guests can have a seat while waiting for a table, as there's not benches or anything. Very courteous! If you look up and around... I rather enjoyed the north higher wall being decorated in taxidermy and he upper south wall? Beer signs; a good mix for a woodsy bar. Glancing around out at the patio, appreciative that they had a "curtain" to roll down for that Sun Sets in the West as to not blind any diners. I didn't venture past our table near the bar to see what the dining area was like at the westernmost portion of the bar where I could see standard height tables in..... Parking? We were lucky enough to find a spot right across from the door. They have a couple of lots, but spots may require a jaunt..... The food was good, my mom opted for a Red Pines pizza. I asked our server Rena if she'd order he Roll Tide wrap or a burger? She enthusiastically replied the Roll Tide. I opted for that sans the tomato. Side? Well..... pick a side...any side. Red pines has them...all! I opted for the sweet potato waffle fries. They were alright... some weren't done enough...maybe jumbled up in the fryer basket? Definitely not bad, I would definitely order them again. The Roll Tide was good... had a bit of heat on it, definitely not bad, just wasn't expecting it. We did take out here so I can't comment on the atmosphere inside. It looked very nice from the outside. My wife and I biked by there again yesterday before they were open and it looks like a great location. The service was very fast bringing our food at at the specified time. Being a Friday night in Wisconsin, my wife had perch that was very good. I had a fish poke bowl that was excellent and would be my "go to" next time. read more

Unlike the 3-star review here from a WI to CA transplant, I understand that midwest food is distinctly midwest food for a reason, and it doesn't have to be compared to rabbit food from CA. We enjoy our oils and aromatics. We appreciate the heartiness in the meals. And you can simply ask for hot sauce if not the table. We highly respect the food here, as We are CA to WI transplants too!! WE'RE NOT IN CA ANYMORE TOTO. PLEASED with the service: - blankets behind chairs, wow! - the hospitality of the owner, very wow! This is very important in my culture as were #1 hospitality country in the world! She also works alongside with waitresses, that impresses me. Amazing little gem. We found the perfect spot next to our Airbnb. This place has a must try walleye cheeks . These are fantastic. I'll be back just for these again . We also enjoyed ribs with house beans and french fries . The ribs were on the sweeter side and a good amount of smoke . My wife enjoyed the beef stir fry . Her only complaint was the mushrooms the be cut up slightly. Otherwise she loved it . This is a fun spot in the summer I'd imagine. Great prices and portions. Lastly the server was a younger girl and she was great . Very attentive and helpful. Give this place a try . read more

Food, service and atmosphere was wonderful! I love the how much room there is in the dining rooms and the large deck overlooking the lake!

The food and service were fantastic, well beyond the usual bar and grill type food. However, we ate on the patio and the flies were awful. The plastic enclosures were down, making the space really hot. I heard the hostess (?) tell another customer that "the flies are really bad this time of year". When asked about the plastic she said "yeah but in a hour it's going to be cold", but then sent two guys out to roll up the plastic. Another customer handed us a fly swatter on the way out and said "good luck". Your customers should not have to sit with a fly swatter during their meal. Clean the flooring, clean the furniture, and enlist an exterminator. read more

We had a great lunch here recently. The place is huge with seating inside, at the bar, and outside on the spacious patio. We sat outside and enjoyed the breeze and view. The walleye cheek and cheese curds were great starters. The perch was fantastic. They make a great old fashioned and several options for beer by the bottle or on draft. They also have a phenomenal bourbon selection if interested. The staff were friendly and gave great recommendations. read more

I do not recommend them because for one on there Facebook reviews they delete negative reviews lol what exactly does that say about them?? I literally had to put recommend to even leave a review. how pathetic. Anyways I have maybe gone here twice now and the last time there catfish BLT tasted not very fresh. However I have them on Facebook and I really appreciate their diverse menu but not their customer service. I asked a basic question about having to make reservations for their Valentine's dinner special and I get nothing but rude responses back. just because it's asked over messenger doesn't mean you can treat customers like that lol especially new ones at that. Friday afternoon, the weekend of local college graduation and the place was jammed and hopping. No chance to sit outside and enjoy the views of "Lake Onalaska" which is actually the Mississippi River. Not sure how long they have been open, but they didn't exist when I lived in La Crosse 50 years ago. Northwoods cabin chic decor, coupled with the usual sports on TV and lit beer signs. One of the longest menus I have ever seen for a casual dining spot. Lots of choices in nearly every category of food you can think of, including fresh water fish. I went for the Lake Perch appetizer (five pieces and fries) (they also offer a dinner size). Perch will be my first choice if there aren't bluegills on the menu, another diminutive freshwater lake fish. The fish was good, had been given a choice of battered or pan-fried, and I went with the former, it didn't overwhelm the fish not taste of beer, thank goodness. The downside of the food? Extrude fries. Those formed mashed potatoes sent thru a french fry mold and seasoned. Just don't like them, but many places serve them. I'd guess they are 1) cheap 2) easier to prepare than freshly cut fries.. So I didn't finish them. The downside of the place? Crowded. Very noisy. Chaotic service. Four different servers worked our table, but all were pleasant and helpful. I'd go again for the food, but at a different time of day. read more

We enjoyed an early dinner on Sunday. Andi, our server, was amazing --very bubbly/friendly and responsive to our needs (e.g., refilling our drinks, checking with the kitchen to see if a gluten-free dessert was available). Appetizer and our meals came out quickly, with a minimal wait. We were in and out in just under an hour. My husband enjoyed the smoked catfish (prepared gluten free), which is saying a lot because he smokes his own meat and therefore has really high standards. We are new to Wi, from CA. The fish and chips in Cali (SD) are not oily like they were here. I ordered a Fish sandwich, pretty oily. The sweet potato fries were burned.. This is the second place I go to where the potatoes are very well done. Over cooked. Just a bad taste. Not what I expected. Did I say, burned! I also had curds for the first time and thought they were too oily for my taste as well. I don't know if I will go back, it just all felt very unhealthy. Perhaps that's how people in Wi like their food because I do have to say the place was packed and a bit noisy. I would suggest some type hot sauce on the table for those of us who like spicy food, would be nice. The server was nice. The wait was long. Shrimp tacos were delicious. 2 tacos Lots of shrimp. Rice was good and plenty of it. Black beans are a favorite and were very tasty. Sat on the porch but was a bit cold even with the heaters going. Nice touch to have blankets available to cover our legs. Service was very good. After we went out by the wood fire pit and sat there warming up while watching wildlife along the river. We took seating in the lower deck and ordered from the limited (but still extensive) menu at the Pine cove. It's this cute shack that you can place your food order with a tent card number for delivery to your spot. It also is packed with a few drink options so you don't have to wait in line at the full bar. Great food, loved the apps and finished ALL of my Cobb salad! So good!
