But Lacrosse isn't too far away so I'm guessing not. We sat at a table so can't really speak on the service as you go to the bar to put your order in so very little interaction with the staff. Locals at bar definitely were something and gave us a lot to listen to... Won't go back.

If you are "wise" to her get ready because it will come back 10x! I have been going to this place for many years but have never written a review. Probably because I looking for the right word to call the waitress. Haha I have ordered the burgers before and they are outstanding! Hand pressed and they are BIG. I made the mistake of order a double yesterday and I had my hands full...literally. Great flavor and very filling! I ordered the fries as well and left plenty behind because I couldn't eat all of them. Good FF The place is very clean and has the same décor it had....well long ago! A MUST stop if you are in the Winona, MN area. It is difficult to get to but don't worry Witoka is in the goggles. The Friday night fish fry is outstanding as you probably read in other reviews. The fish used at the fish fry is not on the regular menu so don't confuse the two!

They forewarn you it's a small kitchen and food can take 30 minutes, so I do appreciate that. First time, an hour and no food delivered. Second time, waited an hour and half then was told our order didn't get "pushed through" - never checked on, no drinks refills, never came back to our table until I went to the bar to check on our orders. We visited on a Saturday at lunch time. I can only guess that the closure of a nearby bridge…read moreimpacted traffic here, as we were the only customers in the large restaurant for much of our visit. It was a sunny late September day, and the view of the water was gorgeous. As we were the only people present, service was okay, and food came out pretty fast. We ordered cheese curds and two drinks to start. My husband wanted to try local Pearl Street Brewery, but they had neither of their listed beers in stock, so he went with Spotted Cow. I had a strawberry daiquiri, which had nice strawberry flavor but no notable alcohol. The cheese curds were good, the cheese wonderfully stretchy and fresh. My husband ordered the Pool 8 Double Cheeseburger with fries. The presentation is nice, with the onion rings stacked atop the burger to form a big 8. He thought it was all okay. I ordered the cranberry chicken pecan wrap. The wrap was great, with very fresh ingredients and lots of flavor. I ordered the vegetable medley as my side, though, and it was a huge disappointment. It had the taste and texture of a frozen, microwaved steamed vegetable mix, and all of the veggies tasted like the bell peppers. The green beans were rubbery, flaccid things. I never would have expected something like that at a sit down restaurant. So really, a very uneven experience here, and I'm not encouraged to return if I'm in the area again.

A friend had recommended checking out the Foxhole after her last visit here - she said the small…read moretown vibe was great and the old fashioned were great. I've always liked the Sparta side of Fort McCoy better than Tomah, as it just seems more like an individual small town versus a big-box thoroughfare. What a wonderful recommendation, I had a fantastic visit. My co-worker can second the old fashioneds! Staff was super friendly and service was attentive. Clearly there are locals and regulars coming in that know each other by name, but being out-of-towners we were still treated the same and welcomed. We sat at the bar (always my preference), but there is plenty of restaurant seating if you come here with a group or with your family. They have a decent beer selection on tap, and the menu can cover pretty much all appetites. I ordered the veggie burger, which was somewhat generic but nevertheless tasty and I ate the whole thing. Overall, I'd say the food here is good - maybe nothing crazy unique, but good, especially with the somewhat limited options in the area if you want to stay away from chains and fast food. I will absolutely be back for another dinner and continue to try out options on the menu. I'd really love to do the fish fry if I'm ever here on a Friday night. But, who needs dinner when you have dessert?! OMG I'd seen some photos of their desserts online, and even though I'm not usually a dessert person, these photos drove me here that night! Wow. The Brandy Alexander is absolutely incredible. It's large but my co-worker and I each ordered our own (and finished it completely). Anyone can make a Brandy Alexander you sip from a cup... but this was like a soft serve goblet of ice cream with the booze mixed in throughout. The BEST. I will be back here every time I'm in the area just for this (and then good food and beer is always a nice add-on).
