We were in town and went here for Friday fish fry during Lent. It was loud, and the bar atmosphere competes with the restaurant atmosphere, but it was busy and between Friday fish and NCAA basketball, the servers were hopping. The food was fantastic. The beers were cold. The staff were attentive and friendly. Even though it gives bar-in-a-college-town, there were also plenty of families having a night out, as well. It also looks like they have a patio or outdoor seating in nicer months. read more

Our server Madison (I believe that was her name, possibly Maddie) was so nice. She provided the fastest service we have ever received at Howies. Madison made sure my friend who had to leave sooner than us was served first in our group and was very kind about our situation. Thank you for the great service! Food was great too! read more

Server was sweet. We were seated right away. The vibe of the restaurant is classic bar and grill with the feeling like you are siting at the bar in the TV show: Cheers! Lots to choose from with regard to the menu items and of course BEER and drinks. Different specials each day. Were mildly disappointed in the price and portions. We ordered two ice teas ($7) and one Cubano sandwich with coleslaw to split. It was pretty darn small, so let the hubs just eat the entire meal. $25 + tip for a sandwich and two ice teas on a Sunday afternoon was a bit underwhelming. But the employees were kind and on point, consistently checked on us. Etc. read more

Had never been here before so wasn't sure what to expect. BIG sports bar with very good food! Started with the bacon wrapped cheese.. very good! Had the BBQ burger and was pleasantly surprised. Very good flavor and nice size. The young lady that served us did a very good job also. We will visit again! read more

Fresh Ceasar Salad, quite large. Recommend it. Cheeseburger, 1 patty, big and very juicy. No need for a double. Fresh made potato chips. The male server was very kind. He was the only one working midday, and handled it well. It is an open environment and clean. read more

Great atmosphere. The place is huge. Downstairs has trivia going on. Upstairs was nice and where we are. Plus there was outdoor seating. The food was very enjoyable. I had the burger off the month special and my wife had an avocado burger she enjoyed. Our service was very helpful. They were training a new person that was great. read more

Went on a Monday night, the buy 1 get 1 free burger special was a crazy good deal and I would've taken advantage of it if I wasn't in town for work and staying in a hotel. Went with a Philly cheesesteak and dirty fries and both were excellent. Staff was super friendly and the vibes at the bar were great. Took off one star only because my waitress spent more time talking to two of her friends at the bar than she did working, tried to flag her down for a refill numerous times but she was always preoccupied with her conversation. read more

Wasn't bad, but wasn't exceptional. Coupon brought us to try it out. Probably wouldn't return unless we had another coupon. We appreciate a reasonable value for our dollar, but this was about 20% overpriced for food in our opinion. read more

I'll be honest, I always forget to go here but every time I do, it's a 5 star experience. Tonight reminded me again of why I need to choose Howie's more for eating out in LAX. Everything from the fun atmosphere, great service, and the delicious food is great. What I love most is every single time I've been here the manager walks around to every table and asks for their honest feedback. I appreciate that! Definitely a place I want to support. read more

I came to Howie's on La Crosse this past Monday. I have never been and was really excited to try it, I was impressed by the service a lot. Kendall was our server, she was very attentive and knew the menu very well which was super helpful. The food came quick and was probably the best burger i've ever had. If you're looking for a great spot to grab lunch or dinner this is it! read more

We went here for lunch yesterday. Had the chicken wings. Others had the chicken sandwich. Everything was good

Learned the burger patty's were premade pressed ones and I should've listened to my gut instinct but proceeded order to the breakfast burger. Very disappointing it was dry and had a odd flavor. Love a good side of cottage cheese though. The dynamite wings were good. Plenty of parking here. read more

The service was quick and friendly, our waitress was attentive and provided our orders accurately. The draft beer was cold and fresh; there appears to be a good selection. We ordered two smoked wing platters with the "Hometown Sauce". The wings were crispy, but not over cooked and very tasty. The hometown sauce was exactly what I was looking for. It was spicy and very flavorful, the heat was cumulative and by the time I finished my basket I had a good sheen of sweat on my head. Highly recommended this sauce if you enjoy heat and flavor. We also had a bruschetta salad which we split. That too was flavorful and quite large. The place is large with a lot of seating. The place is welcoming and clean. The men's bathroom was clean. We have eaten here in the past but we don't get here as often as we should; the food and service is always top notch. read more

They accommodated a large group of kids that got to sit together. Waitstaff was very attentive and the food was excellent. Highly recommend!! Great sports bar atmosphere, large beer and food selection. read more

The food here is quite good. The burgers were 5/5. The fries are seasoned and a little on the saltier side than what my taste buds like but it's ok. I got the Caesar wrap and it was somewhat dry but still delicious. The dynamite wings have a very heavy dressing on top but was good. Review the pix for more information. read more

I had the BBQ chicken bacon wrap with chips! The best chips I have had in a restaurant! Of course Cheddar Bites for starters (wanted the fried pickles but they were out). We experienced the best two servers on the same weekend! (See Tavern on France review) Our server was full of humor and truly connected with our family. Even though the placed was packed and she clearly was hoping from table to table, she spent extra time making sure our visit was an enjoyable one! I really have to start asking names!! We were looking for a good meal and a place to relax while killing time between basketball games during the McDonald Classic. We picked the right place. The place was very lively and filled with televisions. The waitress took our drink order and we decided to try the signature Cheesy Bacon Bombs. They arrived in a short period of time and were worth every penny. The Jack Cheese gave them a creamy taste without the normal "bite" of the Jack cheese. Price vs. Value was ok for a party of three or four. I decided to go all the way and try the Howie Burger. The double bacon burger was very filling and the Howie Dynamite sauce increase the flavor with a bit of fire. My wife thought it was "hot" but I rated it more of a medium spicy taste. The French fries were good as well. I went with the refillable strawberry lemonade. Pretty sweet! I couldn't drink a second and elected for a glass of water. I wanted the 1919 Root beer but they were not refillable which is pretty standard among the restaurants. Everyone in our party was very pleased with the flavor and taste of the food. This a great place for a burger and drink, plenty of adult beverages as well. read more

So there is great service in La Crosse, just got to Howie's! The bartenders were fantastic, shout-out to Blake! He recommend their smoked wings. I am on a dry rub kick and he said their Season was good so I went for it. It was excellent! It should be listed on those menu as a dry rub option in my opinion! Excellent lunch! read more

I've never been to the actual restaurant location, but I was able to try their food when the office ordered lunch via delivery. I have to say, I was pretty impressed. I wanted something that would still taste good after lightly reheating, so I decided to order their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw tasted fresh, not too heavy on the mayonnaise, and not overly sweet, which I liked. The slight acidity from the coleslaw paired nicely with the richness of the cheese steak. The cheese steak itself was very generously filled, well seasoned, and the onions were perfectly grilled. The bun was soft and chewy, which soaked up all the beefy cheesy goodness. I'd definitely recommend checking out this local eatery if you are ever in the area. read more

Service excellent. Atmosphere sports bar college town vibe.. Food burger was done well.. I should have ordered that.. Their menu says In House smoked chicken and pork so I ordered the spicy buffalo smoked chicken salad with hommade ranch. So very disappointed. The chicken was dry as a bone and tough. I would not order again. If smoked chicken was their specialty then this was smoked days earlier and for too long using frozen chicken. Icky. Beer was good. read more

Ok so Saturday and Sunday Morning for $5 u get 1/2 glass of vodka and a nice selve serve bar of make ur own bloody with a huge selection..cant be beat? Meat, cheese, veggies, spices, etc. We went for 2nd n 3rd helpings of meat n cheese while topping off our bloody's due to the 1/2 glass of vodka they give u.. Place is beautiful, very clean and tidy. This was going to be 5 star rating until the food came.. Presentation of plates was very good but lacked flavor, spice and taste- this place needs a real chef and it could easily be a top notch place in LaCrosse. The food was mediocre at best- we got burgers n wraps..how can u go wrong? The burgers were cooked to death and the wraps according to my daughters sucked. I must say I would go back for the bloody's 5 stars, but I would skip the food...btw I tried to order my burger medium and she stated I could not as they are all cooked the same in a press? Have they not heard of a griddle? A place this nice needs a good chef serving food that will set it apart from the competition- think? you are right across from the college- $5.00 burgers (like a culvers style pattie, thin lean and spicy will get the placed packed in...lose the frozen fries and go to real potatoes. PEOPLE HATE FROZEN FOOD, WE CAN DO THIS AT HOME. Servers were quick and Friendly which is A+ for service- after a rough night (satuday in down town lacrosse)- Sunday Morning Bloody fixed the hangover problem but the food brought it all back...uggg read more

Howie's on La Crosse - Bloody n a meal in a cup - New American Near Me - La Crosse, Wisconsin

Sunday morning Bloody Mary Bar = pretty awesome! For the same price as a regular Bloody, you can doctor it up at the bar. Literally make a meal in a glass if you want! This is the kind of place I have in mind when I think of college bar, lots of large tables for group seating, plenty of T.V.'s to watch the game and good looking, friendly staff to bring your food and drinks! Looks like there are specials almost every night. Lots of reasons to come back! My burger was pretty darn good, onion rings were average. We also ordered the Cheesy Bacon Bombs, which I found a little too spicy (but I'll admit... I'm a spice wimp)! Overall the meal was good, atmosphere was great and I was happy with my experience. read more

The food is good but nothing special. Service has always just been okay. A good staple spot, though.

Food was great, atmosphere was fun, service was outstanding. They easily seated a large table at noon on a Saturday. Server was relieved that we'd be on one check. She was attentive and helpful. Several in our group ordered wraps with fries. The wraps were fresh and well made; the fries were good too. Others ordered cheesesteaks which also looked good. Appetizers were great- mainly fried but still good. Probably won't be in the area again but would go back if I was. read more

1- I have never left a review 2- I have always loved Howie's... but I was super confused and disappointed that 11 small cheese bites is apparently worth $10 now. Roughly $1 per cube of cheese. I just don't understand when a burger with fries is like $2 more?? read more

We arrived to find the bar filled with collage kids watching soccer and refilling on blood Mary bar . The atmosphere was sports pub bar . Blue moon looked to me the drink of choice at this place . We ordered bacon stuffed cheese bites . These were very good . I also ordered the Cuban sandwich. This was average. More sauce needed .. something ! The coleslaw was very basic and almost too dressed . My wife wasn't as satisfied with her wrap . Seems might spicer then described. Overall we had a good experience. Service was very attentive almost over bearing . But I'd rather have that then the opposite. This would be a fun place to watch the big game and enjoy good appetizers and beer . read more

Howies is amazing! Pretty much the only sports bar you need to get to in La Crosse. The food is amazing, the beer options are plentiful, and the service is of high quality. Even during Oktoberfest which is saying a lot. They do alter the menu slightly that weekend but it's still amazing. It just all around a fun environment with lots of seating and space.
