We were really excited about the unique menu, but I'd say we were let down. Service was a bit frantic from the beginning, even starting with the host who seemed quite confused. We ended up sitting at the bar instead and our poor bartender was way too busy, while many of her colleagues were chatting, moving really slowly, etc. despite her asking them for help at least 4 times while we were there. Also, someone else helped us with our drinks, and he told us that they don't do samples of tap beers? I've never seen that before but that was incredibly lame, so we didn't get beer. The food was good, but it didn't blow us away. We enjoyed the gig pizza but it was super heavy, actually too much cheese and bedding to freshen it up. Cheese curds were super good ones, though the chimichurri way practically invisible in the aioli and needed much more. We'd give it another shot, but would be cautious in doing so. read more

I'm telling you... Either I'm having really good luck picking restaurants and getting recommendations or restaurants in La Crosse Wisconsin are just on another level. I was driving through this time on my way to Chicago and stumbled upon Fork & Fable Crafthouse. Wow. Just wow. From the outside it was pretty unassuming and after walking through the outdoor seating area to go inside to the host stand, we opted to go back out and grab a table outside since it was beautiful. The inside of the restaurant looked a little like a sports bar from what I saw and the outdoor space was small, but had four nice tables with umbrellas. I wish I could remember our server's name because she was one of the managers for the front of house and was so friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive. These brussels sprouts were unlike any I have ever had. They were deliciously crispy, like I have had before, but these also came with grapes, candied pecans, whipped feta cheese topped with an olive oil and a hot maple drizzle. The Ahi tuna salad was pretty straightforward, but they elevated it with a seaweed salad on top of the greens and it came with a house made wasabi vinaigrette that packed such a delicious punch. My only regret was coming here for lunch on a road trip so I couldn't indulge on one of their craft cocktails because they sounded amazing. Before I left, I got to chat with the owners and they were great guys. It definitely reinforced the need to support local businesses like this that are doing it well. I appreciated the whole experience and I hope I get an opportunity to come back again soon. read more

What a great place! We were in town over Spring Break and this place was close to our AirBnB. We were told to try the brussel sprouts but knew little else about the place. Our first time, we sat at the bar and had a Bloody Mary, and it was great! The second time, we sat in the restaurant and ate off the menu. The brussel sprouts are every nbit as good as they look; they're savory and sweet and the textures are amazing. The service both times was great; the people are friendly and give great recommendations. The restaurant is clean and bright. 10/10 will go again next time we're in town. read more

We were visiting La Crosse, found this place on a Friay night. I love good fish and chips, this place did not dissapoint!

This was my third visit to Fork and Fable, and while the food was good, it's unlikely we'll be returning. The bartender spent five minutes chatting with someone at the bar before even starting on our cocktails. We were one of maybe three tables when we ordered our food but it took over 35 minutes to arrive at our table. The long wait times has been consistent every time I've gone, regardless of how busy it is. The staff was very nice, but they could be more attentive. We had to flag our waitress down three separate times. It's worth a visit if you like farm to table style food, but I wouldn't recommend going if you have somewhere to be after. read more

An unexpected surprise! My wife left LaCrosse 30 years ago and was looking for Calif-healthy. We found it here. I had salmon and she had the ahi tuna salad. Both dishes were fresh and delicious. Our waiter and kitchen worked well on their feet and provided an amazing orzo substitute. The ambiance is a craft brewery, the bourbon list says something entirely different. Saturday night dinner with the husband. It wasn't busy and quite quiet, just what we needed. Our server Sophia was amazing. She was attentive and checked on us often. Kudos to her! Food was ok. It wasn't bad - it had potential. The ahi tuna nachos was more wontons than ahi. It was an ok appetizer. For entrees we got the beef short ribs which were wayyyyy too sweet. It was hard to finish especially with nothing else to balance out the sweetness. Mah mahi is supposed to be tropical. However this was Mexican fusion. The creamed verde over took the entire dish. The crispy potatoe was mush. Verde was way too much. Pico was unnecessary. Perhaps the verde as a side sauce would've done justice but. I ate the mahi and left everything else untouched. We left with mixed feelings. Loved that they purchase locally but the plating and combo just doesn't make sense or is trying to hard. Thought we would walk in and the jukebox would turn off and everyone would turn and stare. Warmly welcomed right away. Staff was super friendly and informative about the food and drink menu. They don't have as wide of a selection of beer as Bodega does downtown LAX, but what they do have is very solid. Maybe 8 taps and twenty or so in cans. They also have a local Untappd Badge right now which is what drew us there in the first place. They have a weekend brunch and it did not disappoint in the least. The Banana Custard French Toast was one of the best things I have had to eat in awhile. My traveling companion really enjoyed his biscuits and gravy. Please stop using a 16" platter as a salad plate if you don't intend to dress the entire mound of spring greens piled high..... the seared tuna salad had potential until it showed up with a slab of unseared tuna and no where near enough wasabi dressing. Same situation with the pear goat cheese salad huge pile of greens no where near enough dressing and CANNED pear. We went to eat at 5:30pm Saturday night. Yes it was busy. We waited 27 minutes for a glass of wine. Then 15 minutes later our server finally came to take our order. She said it would be a while for our food because it was so busy. 45 minutes later our food arrived. Yes, it was delicious but when will they learn that they need to be properly staffed in the front of the house as well as the back of the house to give their customers proper and efficient service. She was kind and personable. In a day and age when service can be less-than-ideal, the way Taylor interacted with our group really stood out to us. Our group was very happy with the food, and the portion sizes are HUGE. I especially loved the Roasted Brussel Sprouts. For a turkey sandwich, the Roasted Turkey Croissant was good and, again, was a huge sandwich. Our group also really liked the Gourmet Mac-n-Cheese (w/ Blackened Chicken). My review is based upon my wife and I visiting on a late Monday afternoon/early evening. We sat in the eating area not at the bar. Service was friendly, fast and efficient. We had the ahi tuna nachos made with wontons instead of tortilla chips. They were great! Very nice portion and incredibly tasty! We both liked them and highly recommend them. It was plenty for the two of us. We also had two margaritas and they were made perfectly. I could have drank a pitcher of those, but thought I better not. I also had a can of beer, it was nice and cold. They have a good draft selection, however I was looking for a domestic light beer and they didn't have any on tap. We will definitely get back to the place to try other items. The bartenders, Cassy and Johnathan are very good! The only reason I'm giving four stars is because it is a bar environment, which I like, but I don't give four stars for a bar. However, we consider the menu "upscale" bar food. read more

Was recommendations from a family member Appetizer was the cheese curds - reminded us of the Edwardos cheese curds from years ago - huge and full of flavor. I am asking everyone I know to boycott this establishment! They served a plate a food that tasted horrible, was not eaten other than the first couple of bites, and a complaint went to the waitress immediately. The waitress offered a different item on the menu for the food. Then the waitress brought the bill with both items on the bill. The owner then came to the table and had the audacity to say well you tasted it so you have to pay for it!!! . After a brief argument it was agreed he would pay part of the bill! . Then when a card was given to waitress the waitress put another person's order from the their table on the bill!! When brought to waitress attention she told her she would have to get the $$ for that order from that person!!! None of this is in anyway a way to do business!!! Prejudice toward A Minority Disabled Combat Veteran - Have frequented the restaurant/bar and had great service from staff, except today. I have asked them to get a specific Scotch that is served commonly. I asked this several times and was told they would order it in again. Today, I stopped and was told I had to drink up what was left of the JWalker red before they would open the Jwalker black that was in stock?? They had JWalker Black, but would not open it for me until the Red was gone. That was rude and Prejudice. I will never visit this place again!!
