John's Bar is a great example of what a hometown bar should be. The employees are all great- they have good drinks.. better food and reasonable prices. One note on food is come hungry!! The portions are huge!! I suggest trying their homemade hummus! Delish!! If you get there early on Sundays it's buy one get one on your first drink! They have a fun, laid back ambiance. The best part is that even though its on 3rd Street you don't get a lot of rowdy college students!!! The people tend to be anywhere from late 20s to 30s, 40s and so on! It doesn't get better than John's Bar!

One of my favorite places to stop at when I'm in town. Services is amazing and they treat you like your family. Food is delicious every time, I'd recommend the chicken philly add jalapeños! Just stop on by and start a conversation. Great people here, definitely worth the stop if you've never been here before. Best bar in La Crosse!

Dinner was really good overall and good wine list and service. Soups and salad all came out with the meals and the salad is massive! Breakfast service was a bit uneven, but food came out fast and was very good. Love that they have reasonably priced breakfast options. I got the Dynamite Chicken Sandwich. It was good, but I expected more of a blast of flavor. My wife got the Cranberry Pork chop and said it was amazing! Great Brussels Sprouts on the side. Her side salad was huge and very fresh. My daughter got the Bourbon Salmon and loved it as well. Her side was Wild Rice Soup that was also amazing. For breakfast my wife and I both got 2 eggs and toast. They were very good. They do drown the toast in butter. So be ready for that! Overall we had good experiences and would gladly go back.

Breakfast was awesome. The omelette was delicious and nicely presented. Dinner is what prevented me from giving five stars. We did an order to pick up for our room. The salmon and veggies were really overcooked and they didn't include the salad (which I did go back down and get) but, the food preparation definitely could have been better. But the staff were very friendly!

Around the 90-minute mark, we got a text saying we were 2nd in line to be seated. When we let the hostess know, she snapped back, "That doesn't mean you'll be next." She explained--in a very rude, condescending tone--that smaller groups would be seated ahead of us if a table opened for four. Not ideal, but we stayed patient. While waiting, we noticed tables being cleaned and split apart from a larger party near the bar. I politely asked the hostess if those tables could be used for our group. She cut me off mid-sentence and spoke to me extremely slowly and dismissively, as though I didn't understand basic seating. It was unnecessary and unprofessional, but again--we stayed calm. When we were finally seated, our group was split between two different sections, even though the tables were literally touching each other. The boys ended up with two tables of their own, and the adults were placed at two tables next to them. We still had three more adults arriving, so we asked our server (who was wonderful) if we could move one unused table from the boys' area to the adult side. She said she'd need a manager. Who shows up? The same rude hostess--now calling herself the manager. We asked if we could move the unneeded table so our adults could sit together. She immediately refused and started lecturing us about "affecting her waitresses' livelihood." She insisted each waitress needed their own tables and that she wouldn't "take away" from them. She repeated "livelihood" multiple times, even though we clearly explained that we were all on the same bill and were trying to make things easier for everyone, including the staff. We offered multiple reasonable solutions: Seat us together while allowing both servers to split the table and the tips Let the servers collaborate since we were one large group Allow us to use one table that was otherwise empty Every suggestion was shut down. She told us she had been "accommodating enough already." That line alone says everything. Meanwhile, the actual waitresses were fantastic. We tipped them very well because they provided great service. Our frustration was 100% with the "manager/hostess," not the servers. We visit the Buzzard Billy's in Des Moines regularly and have always had excellent experiences. Unfortunately, the La Crosse location handled customer service very differently--and not in a good way. Being talked down to, dismissed, and blamed for impacting staff "livelihood" when we were simply trying to sit together was unacceptable. For large groups: I cannot recommend this location. We won't be returning. Do better, Wisconsin.

We sat at a table, watched the Lakers game, ordered a few drinks, and were just trying to relax after a long day. Less than an hour into being there, three men walked up to us and said we needed to leave because we were "causing a disturbance." When we asked what disturbance they were talking about, they refused to give us an answer and simply repeated that the "manager" wanted us out. There was no explanation, no specific behavior mentioned, and no actual reason provided. I am not someone who jumps to call anything racially motivated, but it is very hard to ignore how this situation looked and felt. We were minding our business, spending money, and showing respect, yet we were treated like a problem for simply existing in the space. The way it happened felt targeted and completely unprofessional. If this is how they treat paying customers, especially those who do not fit their preferred demographic, I cannot recommend this place. It was uncomfortable, disappointing, and left all of us with a bad taste in our mouths. I hope the establishment takes a hard look at how they handle and respect all customers, because this experience was unacceptable.

This makes sense though, as we saw many people coming in and ordering so many wings. I'm not sure how they sell their wings on any other day of the week, but Wednesdays they're only selling the wings by 10's. This also includes one sauce per 10, they're not splitting the sauce. So if I want another sauce, I would have to order 10 more. This was fine with me and my fiancé though, as we both loved their wings. We ordered the Garlic Parmesan, 2x Inferno and Asian Cajun. The 2x Inferno had a perfect spice for me as I love to eat spicy food. It was, however, too spicy for my fiancé and he wasn't able to eat more than one. The Garlic Parmesan was a bit more on the salty side but I like to eat salty food and I would say this one was my favorite out of the three. The Asian Cajun was good, it's equivalent to the Asian Zing. I would recommend going earlier in the day if you want to go for a more family-friendly environment. As it gets later, there are more people coming in to have a few beers with their wing. This is a bar so it makes sense that people would come in for beers. The place is a bit small and very limited seating, so I would not advise a big group for dining in. Overall, I now understand why this place is known for the best wings in town and I would definitely go back for more wings.
