After a late check-in & 2 failed attempts at dinner (kitchens closed early), we opted to give these guys a try, as we didn't want burgers/fast food. We were greeted immediately and there was a board up for specials. I opted for the breakfast special of the day. The hubs went with the Philly melt. We were both happy with our choices - all of which was made fresh. The "pickle fries" were very interesting. Shoestring style fried pickles, yum. The prices were reasonable and service was good. Driving home after vacation, and stopped in LaCrosse for lunch. Sheer luck that we found this place, with its cool little dog-friendly patio area. Placed our order with the bartender, then sat outside in the sun while we waited. The food (Vietnamese Pulled Pork Nachos, Chorizo Burrito) was piping hot, very flavorful, and generously portioned. My burrito was huge, stuffed with homemade chorizo that had fantastic flavor. My wife's nachos were piled with housemade pickled veggies and savory pork. Service was solid and friendly, food was awesome. If we find ourselves in the area again, this place will be a side quest for sure. read more

Not really any BBQ, but my quesadilla was delish, and filling. Seems most everything is griddled or deep fried, so be prepared. Liked the dive bar feel, and service was decent given a small crowd. Beer selection good. Would return. read more

We stopped in between doctor's appointments and the food was amazing. It was an early lunch and was very quiet with a friendly staff!

Stopped in for dinner after seeing decent Yelp reviews while in town to see the Rotary lights. Not really sure what we were expecting, but it is kind of a dive bar and grill atmosphere. If that's not for you, but a decent meal is, still give it a shot. We don't drink anymore, but we're comfortable in a dive bar. The bartender was very friendly and welcoming right away. He talked with us and made us feel like we were wanted there, which you don't get a lot these days; and in a lot of bars you can feel like an unwelcome outsider. You won't feel that here, at least not if you have this bartender. They serve breakfast all day and have plenty of other options on the menu. The food was quality. The Philly was top notch, the French Toast was perfectly done. The cheesy hashbrowns were cooked well, they were just over seasoned. We ate them though, so obviously not terrible. Everyone needs something they can improve on, and that's the one thing I'd just adjust slightly. The prices were great. If you want a solid meal, welcoming staff, excellent prices and service, go have a few meals there. read more

Took our pups to the patio at Fathead Steve's this past weekend and had a great time! We got some tasty bloodies, the chicken bacon ranch quesadilla, pickle fries, and the nachos. All were soooo good. I would go back just for the pickle fries. read more

Vietnamese pulled pork sandwich (think banh mi) was totally amazing and unexpected. Huge filled with pork and pickled veggies. Service was excellent. Felt like a local in a favorite hangout. My husband did say his chicken Caesar wrap was a little bland. read more

Fathead Steve's is mine and my boyfriends FAVORITE find in La Crosse. We've been die hard fans ever since we got their cheese curds at the first Cameron Park Farmers Market that we visited when we moved there. Their food truck is awesome and the guys in the truck are ALWAYS smiling. (Even when they are crazy busy - they're always so happy!!!) and the food that you get on the truck is just as good in the restaurant. Their restaurant is new and has amazing deals throughout the week - Monday $1 tacos, free darts on Tuesdays, 2for1 bloodies on Sundays, etc. They also have pool tables to use! Outside, they have a wonderful outdoor patio, which I cannot wait to see live music at. Their patio is also dog friendly which is awesome because my golden loves it just as much as we do! They even made her feel super special by giving her a special bowl with her name on it (it's spelled wrong, but she didn't mind ) Fathead Steve's serves bar food, but it honestly feels like more upscale bar food. Food is quick and always hot - even when you take it home! I cannot say enough good things about this place and their workers. read more

Well, it's official... I am addicted to this place. First fell in love with the Vietnamese Pulled Pork with pickled fresh veggies and a spicy sauce on their foodtruck. Then found out they have breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 to 11. Managed to have Caramel Apple French Toast, bacon, and cheesy hashbrowns. All amazing and delicious. My husband did a prime rib cheesesteak from the truck (actually 2 of them because they were so good). Then had the prime rib skillet for breakfast. We both topped breakfast off with GREAT Bloody Mary's (which are two for 1 on Sundays). We will be back! Everything was so good! This place looks like a bar, but calling it a bar is a disservice because the food is so good, and so unique. read more

We stopped here on our way traveling through town because of the Yelp reviews. We really enjoyed the Vietnamese pulled pork sandwich AND the cheese curds (Wow!!! Agree with others - these are great). The Philly was good as well but unfortunately we ate it after the Vietnamese sandwich so it wasn't quite as flavorful. I think had we reversed the order we would've liked it more. Would come here again. Thought about giving 4 stars as it took awhile for the carryout order but we understand how short staffed places are. And they were really friendly staff. The food deserved 5 stars. So just plan ahead and don't come if you are needing food ASAP. Come when you can enjoy it. Thanks for the yummy meal! read more

Went in tonight 1/15/23 and received terrible service from a male bartender. I went previously on a Tuesday night a number of weeks ago with a friend and received great service. Bought an odd number of drinks and took what I perceived to be a drink chip home with me due to a BOGO happy hour special. Returned on a Sunday and the chip was refused by the male bartender and said that he could not give me the promotion due to not being the one giving it to me in the first place and it being a "poker chip" not a "drink chip". I wasn't aware of this difference. He also refused to give the chip back to me, stating that it was the bars property. For a small town local place that I've been reading Facebook page updates for and rooting for on the sidelines, I just don't understand why they would turn away business. I'm confused.
