Revisited Piggy's after this week's change of owner. We didn't expect to walk in to such a drastic change. My husband and i went there specifically for prime ribs - celebratory dinner. We even checked their online menu and made reservations only to arrive with a whole new menu to look at. They're no longer serving prime or smoked back ribs. A lot of customers were disappointed when they were given the new menu. We stuck it out and got our usual appetizer (stuffed mushrooms - a lot meatier than before. No complaints!) My husband got the smoked sampler (pork chop, pulled pork and burnt ends) , that was alright. Sauce was a bit too sweet for us. Pork chop was cooked to perfection! Kudos to that! I got the crusted salmon - which was disappointing because it was over cooked and soggy with no seasoning. Our side veggies were under cooked and not seasoned at all. We did get the cheddar potatoe soup. It wasn't what it used to be - lacked cheddar so it was just more so potatoe soup. My waitress forgot my baked potatoe but i was too full from disappointment that i didn't bother to ask for it. Service was good. It was a steady crowd. Not too busy. It was a good place. The food was pretty decent. Came here for my mil bday and it was prom night lots of frills and low cut dresses. We had reservations for 5 o'clock got in there a little bit early got seated right away. Awesome but it took him forever to take our drink orders then it took forever to get our drinks to us. It took forever to take our food orders, to get food it just took forever to do anything. I don't blame the staff, but they should've anticipated prom night and maybe had a little bit more staff in there. read more

We got two recommendations from different friends to eat at this restaurant when we visited LaCrosse. We took their advice and made a reservation on a Thursday night. It turned out to be pretty empty but that was no indication of the quality of the experience. For some reason we were thinking that since they have barbecue it would be a more "rustic" setting. The space is beautiful (and much smaller than what we were expecting given how big the building is on the outside). The bar is a fantastic antique. The server was very friendly and helpful. One member of our group decided to begin with a Brandy Alexander as a starter. It was an incredible creation and it was delicious. Three of us worked on it (and surprisingly we didn't ruin our appetites). We also ordered the limoncello mule. I have never seen this before - it was very good. So good that I want to try and recreate it at home. The drink (and food) prices were very reasonable. Everyone enjoyed their main course. The entrees came with not only a starch but your choice of soup or salad. I got the salad and it was very good. - it came with a nice mini-loaf of bread. I had an outstanding experience! Starter: Cherry Wood Bacon Wrapped Chicken Strips, this could have been a meal within itself! Entree: I substituted the NY with the Ribeye, with Creamy Blue Cheese and Panko Crust - came with a loaded baked potato, and green beans. Service was awful, our waitress had 3 tables yet we sat there waiting for refills for 15 minutes. Asked for coffee as soon as we sat down and didn't get it until asking again once our food arrived, and she said it hasn't finished brewing yet. I've never heard of a coffee that take almost a half an hour to brew. I got the brisket cheese curds for an appetizer, the cheese curds that weren't drenched in the awful barbecue sauce were ok at best. The brisket by itself was also subpar. For my entree I had the fried walleye and it was bland, along with the mashed potatoes. Great food and atmosphere but definitely short-staffed. Went there on a Friday evening and it was busy!! Good sign that the food is worth it. However, we were seated by the hostess and did not receive any waters or drink orders for upwards of 20 minutes. We go finally got drinks and they were good- but not great- all enjoyed our bbq tho!! Could be better .... 14 oz steak probably 8 oz minus the fat . I'm used to a fat cap but more than half the steak was. Fat .... Disappointed to say the least . Great atmosphere . Favorite drink was there manhattan . Hesitant to send it back but instead decided to take a photo . I'll let yall decide . Decent place . Attentive and friendly service at the bar, comfortable atmosphere and good fresh food quality earns Piggy's a very solid 5 star rating! I appreciate all of the menu offerings and due to my own diet restrictions, I couldn't explore it! Ordering the 8 oz. prime rib medium sided with steamed fresh carrots and a side salad with a delicious made in house honey mustard dressing, I couldn't find any area with room for improvement except maybe the horse radish! (could be hotter!) Portion, tenderness, sides and service exceeded all expectations! however, I give Piggy's 5 stars based on overall value! WHAT A DEAL! Made a reservation for a 4th of July dinner to celebrate a family birthday and we had always gone to Piggy's for this celebration for at least 20 years. We arrived on time and were seated promptly. We were told a waitress would take our orders shorty. Only two waitresses were covering the entire restaurant. I felt bad for them, but no one took our orders and others came after us and were waited on. After 25 minutes of waiting we left. Should have left a lot sooner but with Midwestern expectations of hospitality we kept hoping a waitress would come over or one of the floating staff would have pitched in to help. We had flagged down the front staffer about 10 minutes into our wait to tell her that no waitress had come by. She apologized and said they were short staffed and a waitress would be by soon. When a large party came in after that and was waited on we got up and left. I told the person who appeared to be the manager on duty that we hadn't been waited on for 25 minutes and were leaving. He looked a bit shocked but did not apologize or anything . I have not heard back from anyone there. They had our name and contact info from the reservation. Terrible way to run a restaurant. We had a wonderful meal at Piggy's! Our service was good, and the food was great- served hot, solid food profiles that were well balanced and seasoned, and simply delicious! The bar at the open floor plan restaurant appears to be very old wood-carved, and is a beautiful focal point to the interior of the restaurant. Overall we had a really nice meal and enjoyed the atmosphere at Piggy's. Thank you, and we look forward to our next meal there!! read more

This was a very good restaurant at one time. We had not been here for a couple years for dinner and were surprised it was not busy at all. After eating, we understood why. Very disappointed in the food. I would not recommend the brisket burnt ends. Brisket can be chewy if not cooked correctly. They were not finished properly and had no flavor except for the bbq sauce. I had the ribeye and the steak was tough. The potatoes that were served had no taste at all. My wife had asked to substitute her potato's for a Caesar salad and was told she could not substitute the potatoes. Overall very disappointed and not sure what has happened to this restaurant. This is an amazing restaurant in an old building. The focus as you arrive is a very long bar with a matching mirror and liquor unit behind with wood columns! Maybe 40-50 feet long! Hello everyone, I was in Lacrosse for work and I wanted to try a local restaurant rather than a chain. The good thing about small towns in Wisconsin is that they have great local restaurants and this town was full of local fair! One of the reasons I chose this resteraunt was because of it proximity to the hotel I was staying. The other reason was because it was highly recommended by the staff at the hotel. The resteraunt has a nice ambiance and a great selection of food. In fact some would say the menu was overwhelming with options but, I thought the meal options were adequate. We had burnt ends for an appetizer and they were very good. For dinner I had the bbq combo which included pulled pork, burnt ends, brisket and pork chops. The food came out quick and it was pretty good. The brisket was just okay and I could be a little bias because of the briskets I have eaten in Texas. read more

I'm not particularly impressed. Things got off on the wrong foot when the folks in front of us at the host's table kind of demanded a table despite being 30+ minutes early for their reservation. The hosts conferred and moved things around to seat them. Then we step up and the host that stayed behind while the other sat the first people gave himself a little knowing chuckle because they sat those folks at the table we would have gotten (he said so when the other host returned, which maybe not say that in front of the guest but whatever). I was ready to walk out when they told us we needed to wait but they instead put us at a 4 top (which was going to screw who?? All because someone was an entitled jerk? I never would have sat the other people...). Anyway, we were sat next to the folks that demanded their way in. They proceeded to then be mad about their table and asking to move around their seats and all this nonsense. So we sort of were starting annoyed.... But let me be clear, my low rating is not about that, it was about the food. We started with the calamari. It was just what I wanted, no notes. My entree came with a Caesar salad which was also pretty good. The breadstick it came with was merely okay. I ordered the chicken fried beef medallions with potatoes. Everything just lacked seasoning. It was all a bit bland. My husband got the fried chicken and while he liked the potatoes more than me, the chicken was also just okay. For a meal that presents itself as a relatively upscale place, it was just not that great. We ate a few meals while in La Crosse and this was the most expensive and the least satisfying. I would go back to every other place we ate but I wouldn't make any effort to return to Piggy's. There was just a general lack of flavor and I want to taste something. I would best describe Piggy's as a high end Wisconsin Supper Club with great food. I frequent Piggy's for the occasional business dinner. It is an older establishment that faces competition from newer restaurants like the Charmont but continues to live up to its reputation. As a group we shared the tiger shrimp, pork belly and calamari appetizers. All were prepared nicely, but the pork belly was the star of the group. The pork belly was served with a sweet confit of carmelized vegetables. For dinner everyone went with steaks or the house smoked prime rib. My first time trying the prime rib and it was exceptional. I will be back again just for the prime rib. The steaks all were prepared well and accompanied by salads and your choice of a side. The steak lover in the group felt Piggy's was one of his top 5 and mentioned several Chicago and Indy restaurants in comparison. I was in La Crosse for a conference and found myself staying right across the street from Piggies-- which came highly recommended. This is a place it will give you several options including live music and a comedy show. They have a very spacious area on the 1st floor where they have an excellent bar. they also offer an upstairs dining area that can comfortably accommodate large groups as well as offer an environment for a romantic meal. I ordered the Crab Cakes - pan seared with panko crumbs and housemade serrano lime tartar sauce. They were good but a little too much breading and a little too little crab. For my entrée I ordered the lacquered salmon - Faroe Island salmon brushed with Korean honey soy lacquer. It was excellent! Our adult beverages arrived in a timely fashion. Piggys NO RIBS on the menu. Came here for year for great ribs and chops. Started out as two star review as punishment for no longer serving ribs. Then received food. Salad was a pile of arugula. Had to ask for a side of dressing. Ordered the combo to see what they do with brisket chop and pulled pork. Dropped the review to me star brisket was cubed and seemed more like chuck roast tha brisket. Two pieces had some moisture stopped after two other cubes. Chop was center loin -dry - tasteless sauce. Pulled pork was as close to old Piggy's as there was. Moist with a sauce that was a little sour but more flavor than any had. The breadsticks were the highlight of the meal. Same set up as before, they're extremely busy today with all the prom shenanigans. Bar is small so I got my food to go. Messed up my order, gave me 50% off, food was still good, staff clearly don't like each other, and super comfortable waiting couch. Always enjoyed Piggy's, they have live blues music on the weekends, this place has some upscale dinning. Best steak I've had in a restaurant years ago. Haven't been there in awhile because of COVID restrictions but look forward to going back when things lighten up. She took our drink orders and upon her return placed our orders. Since we were early into dinner service, we were sure that our orders that included burnt ends would be delicious. Table service was very slow. We saw others served and left the restaurant. Finally Madeline comes to our table in inform us that the was a mix up in the kitchen and they were out of burnt ends, would we like something else?
