    grilled steak and asparagus
    Damian C.

Our first time coming here, and I have to say I wasn't impressed. The inside is nice and small, but I have a couple of issues with my experience. The first issue is the fact that the food wasn't the greatest. The steak I ordered was VERY underseasoned, like no salt, and salt can do wonders sometimes. I asked for medium-well and basically got medium rare. Also, the charred asparagus was bland and cold. The best thing were the potatoes. The other thing is that my entree was over 35 bucks, WHY? Even if this place is modernized, it is across from UWL, a hole in the wall, basically. How can you justify such a high price for such low quality? I expected more and got way less than what I SHOULD have paid.. I'm very disappointed !

Salmon, cooked perfectly. Pesto was delightful.

Excellent environs, sat on the patio. Jack was attentive and did a great job. Flavors were bright, well thought out and my strip loin was prepared to perfection - something that eludes 99% of restaurants in the area! Epic whiskey selection! Will definitely return, can recommend.

Love this place. Food was great! Ambiance is cozy. They've got a spacious patio area though.

    Top sirloin medium cooked-excellent.

Very quaint and cozy restaurant. Loved the ambience. Definitely going back. Booked reservations on their website. They had igloos outside with tables set up with candles lit also.

Great place for dinner. I made a reservation on their website. They have outdoor seating in ingloos and indoor seating physically distanced. There was a small cocktail list with a few winter options. I decided on a regular margarita and it had a smoky flavor different but delicious. They have a farm to table concept. I started with the Brussels sprouts. I like this dish universally, and I can say this place to date has the tastiest I've had. I decided to have the burger as my entree. Juicy and yummy. I am not the biggest fan of steak fries but they're definitely different being duck fat fries. I did not try dessert, but I will definitely be going back. Staff is also excellent. They make an effort to remember your name and know you. They are also very careful to ask dietary restrictions from the beginning. Highly recommend!

Fried Chicken, Cheddar Grits, and Smothered Greens

Cute little casual neighborhood restaurant. We went in for an early dinner on a Sunday night. We didn't have reservations but we were seated promptly. The decor and dining atmosphere was very inviting and warm. We ordered the burger (which came with duck fat fries) and the fried chicken (which came with cheddar grits and smothered greens). The burger was tasty but was structurally fragile. The patties fell apart with each bite. The fries were especially delicious, probably because they fried them in duck fat. The fried chicken was nicely cooked, crispy, and well seasoned. Personally, I prefer dark meat, but my order came with two fried chicken breasts. The grits were cheesy, creamy, and rich. The greens were good too, but they were a tad sweet for me. The food took longer to come out than I expected, but the service was friendly. They don't have their own parking so you would have to find street parking.

I used to go to The Mint for breakfast all the time. I was excited that this place reopened as Restore Public House. On my first visit to RPH for brunch I had eggs, toast, coffee, hashbrowns, and bacon. Came to slightly-north-of-$20 with tax and tip. Which is pretty pricey by local standards. (Maybe this is why the place was empty.) The main culprit was the $7 (!!!) coffee. For $20+ I can get breakfast-for-two at The Greengrass Cafe across the street. Of course, RPH can set their prices however they want. And all of us cheapskates can (and will) choose to dine elsewhere.

    Falafel!

YUM. Came here last week for the first time and had the falafel with a side of fries, and a Paloma. The falafel were crispy and flavorful, and the hummus was perfectly seasoned and had a splash of fruity olive oil on top. Can't wait to come back!

This place is amazing! We had many locals recommend it and we were not disappointed! We tried the roasted feta appetizer and dandelion salad, both of which were great! Three of us ordered the burger which was so.darn.good!!! The duck fat fries were amazing! The other of us got halibut and it was as good as it looked. We all also ordered dessert. Elliana was a superb waitress with so much knowledge and very witty!!

My wife and I fell in love with this place. The service is amazing. We started with some delicious cocktails and pork belly burnt ends. I can't write words that would properly convey just how good they were. Main course: my wife had their house made pasta, cooked al dente, it was amazing. I had sablefish which was prepared perfectly. For desert, we had their homemade salted caramel pretzel ice cream!

Around the 90-minute mark, we got a text saying we were 2nd in line to be seated. When we let the hostess know, she snapped back, "That doesn't mean you'll be next." She explained--in a very rude, condescending tone--that smaller groups would be seated ahead of us if a table opened for four. Not ideal, but we stayed patient. While waiting, we noticed tables being cleaned and split apart from a larger party near the bar. I politely asked the hostess if those tables could be used for our group. She cut me off mid-sentence and spoke to me extremely slowly and dismissively, as though I didn't understand basic seating. It was unnecessary and unprofessional, but again--we stayed calm. When we were finally seated, our group was split between two different sections, even though the tables were literally touching each other. The boys ended up with two tables of their own, and the adults were placed at two tables next to them. We still had three more adults arriving, so we asked our server (who was wonderful) if we could move one unused table from the boys' area to the adult side. She said she'd need a manager. Who shows up? The same rude hostess--now calling herself the manager. We asked if we could move the unneeded table so our adults could sit together. She immediately refused and started lecturing us about "affecting her waitresses' livelihood." She insisted each waitress needed their own tables and that she wouldn't "take away" from them. She repeated "livelihood" multiple times, even though we clearly explained that we were all on the same bill and were trying to make things easier for everyone, including the staff. We offered multiple reasonable solutions: Seat us together while allowing both servers to split the table and the tips Let the servers collaborate since we were one large group Allow us to use one table that was otherwise empty Every suggestion was shut down. She told us she had been "accommodating enough already." That line alone says everything. Meanwhile, the actual waitresses were fantastic. We tipped them very well because they provided great service. Our frustration was 100% with the "manager/hostess," not the servers. We visit the Buzzard Billy's in Des Moines regularly and have always had excellent experiences. Unfortunately, the La Crosse location handled customer service very differently--and not in a good way. Being talked down to, dismissed, and blamed for impacting staff "livelihood" when we were simply trying to sit together was unacceptable. For large groups: I cannot recommend this location. We won't be returning. Do better, Wisconsin.

The cook tossed a bake potato and it was not even sliced into. I turned and put the entire plate at the table behind me. The kids meal was huge. 5 good chicken strips and half a plate of undercooked french fries. To be fair, my foster granddaughter was not sitting still. The inside of the restaurant looked a little like a sports bar from what I saw and the outdoor space was small, but had four nice tables with umbrellas. I wish I could remember our server's name because she was one of the managers for the front of house and was so friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and attentive. These brussels sprouts were unlike any I have ever had. They were deliciously crispy, like I have had before, but these also came with grapes, candied pecans, whipped feta cheese topped with an olive oil and a hot maple drizzle. The Ahi tuna salad was pretty straightforward, but they elevated it with a seaweed salad on top of the greens and it came with a house made wasabi vinaigrette that packed such a delicious punch.
