Just visited La Crosse and figured I'd start my adventure with breakfast. Rosie's Café came highly recommended--and now I know why. It's the kind of place that doesn't just serve food, it serves belonging. The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm "Good morning, hon!" and my friend had a coffee that could wake the dead (or at least a sleep-deprived newcomer). The décor is charmingly vintage, like your grandma's kitchen met a roadside diner and they decided to raise pancakes together. I ordered the chicken sandwich for breakfast! Don't judge it's a thing. because I didn't know what I was doing, and wow--turns out Rosie knows exactly what I needed. It wasn't fancy, but it was perfect. Cute little diner, located in the middle of a neighborhood. Heard nothing but good stuff and we had to stop in and try for ourselves. Service was great. Very kind and attentive staff. Food was quick, hot and delicious. I love that they have old trivia cards at the table to help kill time and helps you interact with your people vs being on your electronics. Probably the local's secret spot, so don't tell anyone about this review. One of the best breakfasts in La Crosse, WI. Everything comes out piping hot, we had a quiche, veggie omelet with ham and the biscuits & gravy. Food comes out very fast too! Not sure what happened but the last two visits to Rosie's has left me less than satisfied. Let's start with what is still on point, like the service and ambiance. The folks who work there are kind, quick and efficient. We had breakfast on the last two occasions and the eggs had zero seasoning, the sausage wasn't browned well and the hash browns were bland. For three adults the check came to around forty dollars. I will be back because perhaps it was an off day for chef and Rosie's is just too special to write off! read more

I needed somewhere to stop for lunch on a road trip from Milwaukee to Minneapolis, and I am so glad I came across Rosie's Cafe. It had a very classic hometown diner feel. To me, it was a hidden gem, but in the hour I was there it seemed like some of the locals had the menu memorized and knew what they wanted within seconds of sitting down. After perusing their menu of excitingly low priced items, I landed on their BLT on white bread with a bowl of chili to start. It just sounded right! If I were to rewind and redo my order, I would have preferred that the bread not be toasted, as it did end up crumbling with every bite. Despite that, though, the sandwich was delicious! The bacon was thick cut, lettuce was crisp, and tomatoes were perfectly juicy. The bowl of chili was as warm and cozy as anticipated. My husband and I decided to have some sort of brunch type of thing today at Rosie's Cafe! We have been here a few times, it this is the first time I'm reviewing this place. Trying to play catch up, ya know?! Anyways, Rosie's is your typical hole in the wall type of place. Very narrow interior, with a few booths, a diner bar, and bigger group-like tables that are in the rear of the restaurant. The decor has that vintage vibe that I love! My husband had a cheese omelette with American cheeses and onions on the inside, hashbrowns, bacon, and toast in white bread. He enjoyed his meal except the toast, because the way he referenced it was that the roast was very light tasting in texture, almost like a diet or Keto type of bread. He did very much enjoy everything else. I had the chicken strips which they give you 3 big strips, a side of fries, and BBQ Sauce and Ranch for dipping. I very much enjoyed my meal. The chicken strips had a black peppery coating that I love and reminds me sort of how my mother seasons her fried chicken. The fries were piping hot and crispy, oh, and did I mention the chicken was crispy and hot too?! I love fresh food, and they didn't disappoint. I absolutely LOVED their Ranch. It was very tangy and homemade which I am gonna need that recipe! The BBQ Sauce I could pass on because it's pretty vinegary, and not my kind of thing as I like sauce more smoky and thicker, with a non-vinegar base. Overall, very good place to go! We were tired of some places being disappointing and felt like a waste of money. This place was money well spent, and everyone is always so friendly! If you visit La Crosse, go to Rosie's Cafe! I love this place! Rosie's is the type of place that I would drive out of my way to go to. Our schedule this week only allows us time for one breakfast out and we certainly made the right choice going to Rosie's Cafe. When we walked in a lady welcomed us and said go ahead and sit anywhere you like.Once we sat down she quickly followed with some water and coffee. I had already done my research and knew what I was going to order for breakfast. My wife on the other hand tells me she is going to order oatmeal since we have been eating out a lot this week. I simply responded with oatmeal is only good in apple crisp and butterscotch cookies and you don't come to a place like this an order oatmeal. So she decided on an ordering an omelette with hash browns. That's my girl! I ordered their supreme potatoes which was sliced potatoes with onions, peppers, bacon, ham and all sorts of goodness. While we waited our server Sue who was working the dining area by herself must have called at least 3 customers by name and visited with them. Our wait was very short lived as our meals we brought out in what could not have been even 10 minutes. Being a fan of potatoes I went all in with my breakfast. My wife was a little more lady like with hers but that just means I would finish first then get to help her finish hers. Both our meals were served with homemade bread. Everything was excellent! I noticed a chalkboard inside that was congratulating Rosie's on 33 years. That's a long time to be in the restaurant business, especially a hometown local restaurant. This is clearly a place the locals come to as it was busy when we arrived and was still busy when we were leaving. The food is homemade, the service is excellent, and both our bill was just over $15. Decided to try this for breakfast after reading all of the fantastic reviews. We were not disappointed. Definitely a small town feel, with a long line, but we were able to get seated right away at the counter. Driving back to LaCrosse Airport from Fort McCoy, and wanted a hot breakfast. Fired up Yelp and Rosie's Cafe was on the way. Street parking and a lot nearby. This was a weekday, so no line. Imagine it gets busy on the weekends. Very cozy neighborhood joint. I ordered the ham steak, eggs, and home fries plus toast. It was soon delivered, and it was what I hoped for. A big meal, it tasted as good as it smelled and looked! Price with coffee was about $11 plus tip, not bad. Look forward to trying some other items on their menu.
