Two vegan muffins available (October 2021).

Global Grounds is the best place in La Crosse to get a cup of quality tea and one of the only places to get a vegan baked good. This coffee shop has outdoor seating and is in a cozy area near the university and down the road from Grandad Bluff, the epic bluff that overlooks the town and the spectacularly gorgeous Mississippi River; it's higher in elevation than the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, for a general reference point (definitely go there for the views!). Aside from a wide array of loose leaf teas (brought in from the now-closed Dimsum Tea Shop), Global Grounds also has great coffee. They usually have a couple vegan muffins ($4) which are homemade and tasty. My pumpkin muffin was good without being too sweet or oily or heavy. They also have lacto-vegetarian meals from Indian Mealkit (some of which are or can be made vegan). If Global Grounds added more non-dairy vegan options, it would be a slam-dunk of a place to eat, drink or hang out. As it stands, it's still great.

This is a super cute coffee house with some great choices for a snack with your coffee! Too bad I didn't need food when I popped in right before closing (4 on Saturday) the first time I visited. A reason to come back the next morning for another cappuccino and a bagel! Their small cappuccino has only one shot standard, so I had to add the additional one, but the taste of their espresso is excellent! I had to ask the barista (who was definitely a nice guy) what the big dumpling-looking thing was in the pastry cabinet. Well, it's a bagel but not boiled (I hope I heard that correctly). He also said that the process makes it more like a loaf of bread. Wow! Plus, there was the biggest slice of pumpkin bread that I've ever seen! The bagel was great toasted with butter, but I could only eat half (shared the other half with the hubby). So come here for caffeine or come here for some food; I really don't think you will be sorry because this is a super comfortable place with good snacks and great coffee.

Enjoy your coffee in this inviting nook.

I really like it. Sunrise smoothie is really good. Times it's open are occasionally inconvenient. It's a nice place to sit and work.

Instead I ordered the banana muffin, which wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped and was a bit dry.

Kind of torn on this review…read more Grounded has a great patio and well-priced drinks. I just would say I haven't been super impressed by their drinks. I tend to prefer places that make some of their own syrups, etc. and from what I can tell, Grounded doesn't really do much from scratch, which is fine, just not my preference. Their drinks are usually good. I was kind of disappointed to see their even their seasonal specialty drink was not a homemade syrup. My biggest complaint is their cold brew is super weak/too watered down. Service is usually okay, cleanliness is usually okay as well. I do love their expanded hours, so we do stop here when others are closed.

Back then, it was our little ritual, cozy mornings with warm drinks and big feelings, just the two of us figuring out a new chapter one sip at a time. She'd order something with way too much whipped cream, and I'd pretend I wasn't tearing up over how grown-up she looked holding her cocoa. Now? We still go, only these days, she brings her friends, and I'm just along for the ride, and maybe to pay. It's gone from quiet catch-ups to full-blown coffee shop photo shoots with her crew. And honestly? The lighting in there gets it. The huge windows, the plants, the downtown charm, it's practically begging for cute, candid best friend pics and "caught laughing but obviously posed" moments. The vibe is warm, welcoming, a little artsy, and always buzzing in the best way. Whether we're talking about life, school, crushes, or just sitting in that comfortable silence that only comes with time, Grounded feels like home. A beautiful, caffeinated home with oat milk options and the occasional scone we swear we're splitting, but somehow I never get half. Grounded isn't just a coffee shop to us. It's a memory maker, a tradition keeper, a growing-up landmark in latte form.

I always wonder what to give a coffee shop for a score when they are out of your drink…read more Last week Thursday morning, I ordered a large black cold brew of which I was told they were out. Now I am a 30 year black cold brew snob and love going to a different independent coffee house to try its unique flavor as everyone does it slightly different. After my dang, I should have just tried another location in town, but she asked if I would like to purchase a nitro instead which they had in tap. I reluctantly ordered it just to keep the line moving and also a scone which was very tasty and inexpensive at $2.00. I took one sip of the nitro and crushed the scone. I sat in the coffee shop for an hour getting some work completed and it looked like a steady flow of customers. Nice ambiance Good Service Solid scone Lack of my coffee drink Overall 3 because it is a coffee shop and cold brew is on the menu
