When I visited lacrosse recently, I requested that my host take me back to Global Grounds after I had previously visited here in fall of 2024. I appreciate the different flavors and food options from season to season, but I must say I was sad that there was no pumpkin muffins this time around! Instead I ordered the banana muffin, which wasn't as flavorful as I had hoped and was a bit dry. The staff here is always friendly and efficient, and I love the decorations in this cafe. The wall with all the vintage drawings on it is so fascinating! I also had an iced latte this visit which was quite good. I am looking forward to my next visit! read more

Super cute coffee shop! Stopped in on our way out of town. The decor is nice and welcoming. They have a wide variety of coffee and drinks. Some food & pastry items as well. Global Grounds is the best place in La Crosse to get a cup of quality tea and one of the only places to get a vegan baked good. This coffee shop has outdoor seating and is in a cozy area near the university and down the road from Grandad Bluff, the epic bluff that overlooks the town and the spectacularly gorgeous Mississippi River; it's higher in elevation than the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, for a general reference point (definitely go there for the views!). Aside from a wide array of loose leaf teas (brought in from the now-closed Dimsum Tea Shop), Global Grounds also has great coffee. They usually have a couple vegan muffins ($4) which are homemade and tasty. My pumpkin muffin was good without being too sweet or oily or heavy. They also have lacto-vegetarian meals from Indian Mealkit (some of which are or can be made vegan). If Global Grounds added more non-dairy vegan options, it would be a slam-dunk of a place to eat, drink or hang out. As it stands, it's still great. read more

This is a super cute coffee house with some great choices for a snack with your coffee! Too bad I didn't need food when I popped in right before closing (4 on Saturday) the first time I visited. A reason to come back the next morning for another cappuccino and a bagel! Their small cappuccino has only one shot standard, so I had to add the additional one, but the taste of their espresso is excellent! I had to ask the barista (who was definitely a nice guy) what the big dumpling-looking thing was in the pastry cabinet. Well, it's a bagel but not boiled (I hope I heard that correctly). He also said that the process makes it more like a loaf of bread. Wow! Plus, there was the biggest slice of pumpkin bread that I've ever seen! The bagel was great toasted with butter, but I could only eat half (shared the other half with the hubby). So come here for caffeine or come here for some food; I really don't think you will be sorry because this is a super comfortable place with good snacks and great coffee. read more

Another great local coffee house close to the University of Wisconsin campus with bike parking right outside. This has the feel of a local student hangout, but, during the summer months there were no students present. The barista was very personable and knowledgeable, even giving us our choice of music. The latte that I ordered was perfect and prompted me to visit a second time, and the latte was perfect on my second visit as well. On our second visit, I also ordered one of their home-made bagels. It was wonderful. Definitely worth the calories. This coffee shop has a number of different teas and coffees to try as well as a good selection of pastries and sandwiches, so you should be well satisfied when you leave. read more

Very disappointing. Might as well just go to Starbucks and spend the extra few dollars to get what you want. They couldn't blend a drink because girl behind register said their blender was too slow to make blended drinks. Um, hello? Many many people drink blended coffee drinks so you are losing sales there. So, I ordered an iced coffee. Blah. Not much coffee taste. Also ordered a muffin. Dry and crumbly so I had to ask her to heat it up just to make it edible. Last week I had a shake and was not impressed. Tasted very chalky. It's a shame but I miss the previous coffee shop that was here. read more

Just had the best olive nut bagel sandwich. If you remember The Elite version of the olive nut sandwich, you will love it. Global even offers a vegan version. The walnut cranberry pizza was also exceptional. Global Grounds has really stepped up their food selections. Terribly disappointing lunch! If you enjoy "wraps," by which they must mean you get to eat the wrap (oversized tortilla) and very little filling, by all means come to Global Grounds. The Mediterranean wrap was a few pieces of spinach and some chopped peppers. They ran out of hummus and there was nothing flavorful about the wrap. Thank goodness for the roasted pepper/Gouda soup, as I could dunk my wrap in that. The soup tasted fine, but it was not hot. The food gets 1/2-1 star, the 2 star Rating is because the new owners have kept the McCaffreys coffee and it appears the scones and banana bread are the old recipes. The ambiance of this place is cold and somewhat sterile... nothing too exciting, it looks like a new coffee shop, someplace you'd find in AnyCity, USA. The bathrooms are new, which is a nice upgrade, but I'd prefer if the new owner's efforts were put into selling quality food. Come for the coffee, buy your lunch someplace else. read more

Coffee, espresso, and tea are fantastic! Baristas are always very polite and kind. The atmosphere is somehow simultaneously perfect for heavy homework or just catching up with friends. I come here almost every other morning because I feel so calm yet focused to get things done. I haven't tried any pastry or bakery items because they do lack vegan options. This is the only reason it is not 5 stars. Even if it's just the occasionally pastry made vegan, I'd appreciate it. As the name is global grounds, I feel they should try to represent more dietary needs. Or --if there are vegan options-- labeling would be very nice for times when it is too busy to ask the barista to check ingredients. read more

Great local coffee shop. Coffee is distinctive and flavorful, to be found only at global grounds. My brother who is a hardcore coffee snob loves the bean from here. Scones and bagels are homemade and served with passion. Additionally the cream cheese is to die for even if you are vegan because they have vegan cream cheese. Cathy and her crew give fantastic service that will smiling and caffeinated. Tea selection is also on point and they have a variety of seating options that are both hard and soft. Service is super slow because the baristas are incredibly apathetic. They act like they are doing us a favor by taking our order or making a drink. They are very friendly to regulars however. It's interesting to watch how they turn their personalities on and off. I have also witnessed two of the baristas arguing which was incredibly unprofessional. One told the other she was leaving early, and that did not go over well. But the real reason not to go (especially if you are a tea drinker) is because they give you a big cup if you are staying there, and so the tea gets cold quickly. They should provide a small tea pot. So now I order it to go so it stays warm. I would have just given them one star, but I gave them two because their baked goods are tasty. read more

Excellent local coffee shop! Since the new ownership, the place now has a very urban, metro feel like a coffee shop in the twin cities. Food (wraps and soup) are great and filling, and the have wonderful scones and banana bread. Coffee is wonderful! The best part is all the people you will see here-from college profs, to college students studying, to groups of moms from the neighborhood gathering, to road bikers coming in after a long morning bike ride. The baristas are perfectly in crafting my beverages. They really make everyone feel like a regular. Global Grounds is my second home. The only thing is... there aren't more of them!!!! And also sometimes the water cup are too small. That's why I've given 4/5. Once we upsize our water cups, it'll be a solid 5/5. read more

Not impressed with this place. $3 for a SMALL-sized scone that was virtually tasteless. The barista that I've seen (the few times I've been there) acts superior, like she's more sophisticated than customers, and is unfriendly. Her opinion of herself seems disgustingly inflated. Honestly, she's a snot. It's the customers who keep these overpriced places in business. I overheard the owner say "you don't make any money, you just have fun with it." Obviously, they have plenty of money already or they wouldn't be doing this. I felt ripped off paying $5 for a scone and coffee that wasn't even good, though edible. I am uncomfortable supporting snooty, overpriced places such as this. read more

I really like it. Sunrise smoothie is really good. Times it's open are occasionally inconvenient. It's a nice place to sit and work.
