This is a great option if you're looking for a buffet brunch on a Sunday! Not only did they have their steaks and hash browns, breakfast buffet choices, and standard drinks, but they also had a full nacho/taco bar (I bet a breakfast burrito would be awesome!), full salad bar, and several lunch options, as well as a huge selection of dessert. The interior was classically decorated in "midwest buffet" style and everything was neat and clean. The staff we interacted with were super friendly, helpful, and we noticed them greeting regulars. Compare it to what it is. I would strongly recommend checking this place out. Always a line out the door and not because the service is slow but because it is an awesome value. Food (A+) We went on a Saturday. They change out some items and have different specials on a daily basis. So they have a station where you have steak, burgers, pork chops, baked potatoes. The station has various sauces and seasonings to customize your dish. Was super impressed with the quality of steak and cheese burger. You get to pick the cheese for the burgers and how you would like your steak cooked. Next is the salad bar. Almost ever salad bar item you can think of. After that you have parfait making items, butter, sour cream and other toppings. Next is the American food, beef, fried chicken, Mac n cheese, potatoes, etc. then the pasta station and lasagna. Last is taco bar station. Make your own nachos or soft tacos. After your main course you have numerous dessert options. My kids really liked all the food. If it was not a four hour drive we would go 1x/month. Drinks are not included but it's like $2 for unlimited drinks. The smores dessert was a great find. Service (A+) There is always a line out the door. We got there around 4pm for an early dinner / late lunch and line out the door. But the line moves at a pretty good pace and is well worth the wait. All the staff is super friendly and attentive. They actually helped me charge my phone also. The staff continuously refreshers the food and busses the dirty dishes from your table. Super friendly and help full Value (A+) It's $17. A tremendous value for the amount of food you get. Steak, tacos, burgers, shrimp, salad, desserts, - come on this is a great deal and the food tastes good. Look the negative reviews are flat out wrong. You got to judge this based on what it is - an all you can eat American buffet in a slightly rural part of Wisconsin. Don't judge it to some fancy place in Chicago or Madison or Minneapolis. Steak and lots of it! Sounds like a carnivore's dream and vegetarian's nightmare, but it's not that cut and dry by any means. It's a buffet and there's enough to eat if you're vegetarian. If you're not vegetarian, I believe that the steaks are all you can eat, which is very unusual. This is not like a Ponderosa (remember those?), where you get one thin steak that looks nothing like it does in the picture. Nope, you get steaks made to order and they looked thick enough that they might be something that a meat eater might enjoy. It's a small buffet, but everything is packed densely on each table, so there's a lot more to eat than on first glance. Highlights for me included the salad bar, potato wedges and a baked potato. I guess I was in the mood for a potato that day! I would say that everything was good, but not great, but it is a buffet. Our server was great, by the way, making it a good experience all around. North Country Steak Buffet is where we went today. My husband and stepson decided to meet here for lunch. It's pretty spacious which I like, and can hold a lot of people. The buffet was tidy and had a lot of options. I got a salad that I made myself with Caesar dressing, and I got a Sirloin medium-well. I didn't like my sirloin. It was VERY under seasoned, not even a lick of salt. I noticed going back up there, that they had an array of seasonings, but there wasn't a clear sign to say choose your seasoning and we'll make it your way or something like that, so you don't know if the seasoning would go on after getting the steak. My salad was "ok", but the Caesar dressing wasn't that tangy boldness that you would normally get. It seemed very watered down. I asked my husband what he thought and he said the same thing about his food. They had a Tater Tot Hot Dish out there, but it was incomplete because it was missing the taters on top! It was confusing to me why they would put an unfinished product out on the buffet? Our waitress was nice and others seemed friendly, but the food for us was sub par. I did try the mashed potatoes and BBQ Chicken, and it seemed ok, except the chicken was chewy and the skin was slimy and chewy. I think if the chicken was fried with sauce thrown on afterwards would keep it from being that way. I don't know if we will be back, but we might give them another try. It's a hard toss up, so I am not sure. I think 2 out of the 4 or 5 items we had that were mediocre from what we chose isn't that good. First I'd like to thank Siri and my maps app for leading me here. Actually it's out of the way from where I was traveling but I'm happy for the experience. I had a 5 oz sirloin rare, somehow prepared in less than a minute. Delicious! Next I sampled the burger with pepper jack cheese. Also delicious! I tried the shrimp - not jumbo but not popcorn either. Again, delicious. I had something new (to me), pork stroganoff. Pretty good, over mashed potatoes (no egg noodles?). I rounded dinner off with several deserts. They gave me a senior discount... how can they do this for $11.99? The ONLY complaint I have is that it's over 200 miles from home. Unlike some food reviewers who base 5 Stars on it being hotsy totsy..i base my five stars on the quality of the best it can be for that style of restaurant ...on the food, the experience, the staff, the easy access, the comfort, the cleanliness and The freshness and quality of the Food. This place ROCKS even down to the good music and friendly helpful staff and it's comfy AND GOOD COFFEE! . This is one of the BEST BUFFET RESTAURANTS I have ever been to for a"local community Buffet Restaurant. Probably the last of the great buffets in the Lacrosse area. The name says it all. It's Carnivore central. All the traditional things you would expect at a buffet are here, not quite like Ponderosa or Golden Corral, but quite a spread. They even stock mac n cheese for the reprobates. They usually include a very nice taco bar and almost always have broasted or barbequed chicken on the line, and their desert bar is excellent. You'll feel right at home with the servers too because they know how hard it is to earn a tip at a buffet. If you walk away hungry, it's your own fault. read more

Got there before they opened on a Sunday morning (9:20). Already a line waiting outside.. place opens and people start filing in. There are about 4 or 5 employees standing around inside with nothing to do, and the one employee that is doing anything is doing double duty as the cashier (pay in advance) and table seater. And she must have been new, because it took her about 5 minutes per party on average to ring up each bill and seat them out in the restaurant. Keep in mind, this is a buffet - there is only one thing on the menu - the brunch buffet.. though I guess punching in their individual drinks took an extra 2 minutes each? So yeah, there's a line, but somehow a friend of the owner or something must have been waved through because even though I was 3rd in line and seated after only 15 minutes, I quickly got up to the buffet (they have steaks and burgers to order as well) and there were already 12 people ahead of me, half of whom were toddlers and adolescents. No one's practicing social distancing, there are people coughing all over, and of course the little ones start to scream and throw tantrums because the buffet line is so poorly designed (it's one narrow 'chute' that doubles as the employees' access behind the counter to get drinks) that it's moving at a snails' pace. Took me over 20 minutes to finally get my plate full of mediocre food (all the salads must have come out of cans) and sit down again. As I said the food was pretty mediocre. I got a burger which wasn't bad, though the buns they used were.. kinda sketchy - not sure if they were thawed out of the freezer this morning or what, but they definitely weren't fresh. The hash browns were soggy and barely cooked; the salad and pickled beets were actually kind of gross. At least my drink was waiting for me at my table when I got back. And even though I had asked for a quiet corner table out of the way, the server chose to seat me directly in the middle of the floor and then proceed to seat every subsequent party in a ring all around me, roughly 4' apart, while the other side of the restaurant remained empty until after I left! For $16 (with drink), this is certainly not value and if you're planning to have a nice breakfast in La Crosse, there are at least a dozen better options you should consider instead. read more

I went for lunch and it's a steakhouse and more. The place was clean and staffed. The buffet was always full and their grill area for steak, chicken and potatoes didn't disappoint. I got a medium well Stake, chicken with cheese (you can choose the kind) melted on top and potatoes. I tried the hash browns and the kettle chips. Both were delicious. My steak was tender and not over cooked. They don't season your grilled food but instead have a lineup of seasonings and sauces for you to add add so that you can personalize to your own taste. I had bbq on my chicken and a seasoning mix an my steak with table side AI. The buffet choices change depending on the day so they may be different when you come but I'll list the options. Salad bar (very tasty and fresh), 2 soup options (I didn't try but they looked good), a pasta station with Alfredo and red sauce, a taco/nacho station (they had pulled pork on this station and it was delicious. I added BBQ sauce), mixed veggies (sounds lame but it was good and even better with their Alfredo on top), BBQ chicken legs (didn't try), breaded shrimp (tasty with the mango habanero sauce by the grilling station), chicken nuggets (crispy but needed salt), dessert bar. I tried the chocolate recesses peanut butter bars and bite of their apple cobbler (both good) oh and I also tried the butterscotch Oreo fluff beside the salad bar area (really delicious). Great, great place! The food is good to great. The price is so very reasonable and the staff is above 5 stars. We showed up with a bus full of high school students and adult sponsors on a busy Saturday evening and they worked like crazy to get our 40 plus another group of 30 seated and served as quickly as possible. The wait staff was working at a run and still kept smiles on their faces, refilling drinks and busing dishes. It's kinda like visiting relatives that crowd a few more in when they show up. Haute cuisine...no but just Great food done well...and they kept refilling the buffet so you never had to wait for your favorite things. We always try to stop here when we are in LaCrosse. They were very tender and juicy. Must be prime steaks! They also have a wide variety of other food on the buffet. Everything that I tried was good. The deep fried chicken was also very juicy, yum yum. For $ 11.50 a person you can't go wrong. Really, this place rocks. The place doesn't look like much but you'll get a great meal for about the same as you'd pay for a fast-food combo meal. Today, the going rate for all you can eat steak lunch is about $10 with a soft drink. The steaks are sirloin and not the highest quality but they do a decent job with them. A mechanical tenderizer would be a great addition to their kitchen. They also offer all-u-can-eat grilled chicken breast or really good burgers off the grill (no waiting). Baked potatoes, hashbrowns, fries are also served. The weird thing is my favorite part of the place is not the steaks. Instead, they have a great salad bar. It's all-u-can-eat. I load up a plate with salad and order a chicken breast to slice and put on top for lunch. It's hard to beat. The rest of the food is normal buffet, cafeteria-style food. They usually have pasta with sauce and bread sticks, fried or baked chicken, mashed potatoes, canned soups and vegetables but nothing special about them. They open a can and heat them up. Desserts are offered but are the same sort of pre-packaged cafeteria fare. They do have real ice cream, though. The place is VERY casual and dated with a blue collar lunch crowd.
