The Reggae Bar - a neon lit bar counter - Bars Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

My daughter's and I found this gem when visiting San Antonio. Even though we missed the first part of Monday open mic. We were able to be blessed with one amazing poet that kicked the evening into the perfect vibe. Davon picked it up from there and entertained us with his amazing rap lyrics. Who I only enhance the vibe that much more. However, the greatest part of the night was Kevin the owner. He is simply amazing . He is so polite, professional made sure we was taking care of the entire night. I'm excited to see his vision continue to grow within the next coming year. Go out and support the positive vibe filled with . read more

An authentic reggae bar that's San Antonio's Little Jamaica! This place is legit. They blast the reggae, and it has a real reggae vibe to it. Irie! Beer prices start at $4, and they serve authentic Red Stripe. Hooray Beer! When I went, I showed up on a full moon, and didn't feel exactly welcome inside. But hanging out back, there was a kicking band, and a covered area to stay out of the sun, or chill on the patio. There was plenty of parking behind the other buildings next to the place. If you're into reggae, this is probably the best place on this side of town. They're across the street from Jamaica Jamaica, an incredible restaurant. It's great that there's a little piece of Kingston right here in San Antonio! read more

I've been here a handful of times and every time is a good time with friendly staff and friendly ppl (when I go) . Restrooms aren't too clean but it's a bar so keep that in mind. I have not tried the food here though. read more

This isn't a typical bar. It's more like a chill out spot to hang out. You don't have to dress up or anything but if you do that's find too. If you are use to JA crowd you will love it. They play REAL JAMAICAN music they also have a real JA deejay that actually play dancehall music. I was surprised to walk in after 9pm on a Friday night and hear Movado and Busy Signal music on blast. There was no crowd though. There is a giant back part of the place where when you go out there its like walking through the artsy part of Kingston JA or even "dung ah shop" in the country areas. There are rasta colors everywhere and there's a big Jamaica flag painted out there. I was so happy to see it. They don't mix fancy drinks but they have a good selection of hard liquor. They have Wrey and Nephew white rum but unfortunately they don't have Appleton Rum. Lol. I went there 2 more additional times after I finished bar hopping. I danced all night...as usual, reppin NY of course. Dancehall vybz always nice here and the DJ's are always poppin, talk pon di mic and everyting. THEY HAVE MOVE! THEY ARE NO LONGER LOCATED ON 2016 AUSTIN HWY AS ON JAN. 1 2018!! read more

One of the first places in San Antonio that I've really felt at home; filthy, but at home. ;) if nothing else, Reggae Bar is open 7 days a week from 4 pm to 2 pm. The beers are cheap and frosty cold. The website advertises live reggae from all over the United States, but we also saw a punk show one random Saturday night ... and felt OLD (I'm 27). Monday is hip hop night and there are some great DJs every night of the week. Never been, but I hear they serve Caribbean food on the patio every Sunday afternoon. Kevin (the owner) and all of the bartenders are super friendly and make you feel at home. Great vibes and the bare essentials; I love the fridge. (If you go, you'll see what I mean.) read more

No A/C and they allow their workers to smoke cigarettes, not vape... cigarettes inside this venue. The energy and music was good. The smoking was too much though. read more

The only thing I didn't like about this place is that it's a beer only bar, Other than that every thing was awesome! This is a dive bar for sure. But it's the kinda dive I love! Cold beer at a more than fair price. Great Music is always playing the Owner and Bar Staff are friendly. And they have these Jamaican Meat Pies! They take like 30 minutes to make, but it is well worth the wait! The last time I was there I had two. They have a small stage for live shows. I've lived in San Antonio for 3 years now. This is the first bar I've been to, where I left I was at home. This place is Legit! read more

I finally stopped in with a couple of friends to check out 25 cent Ziegenbock Tuesdays. We sat on the outside patio and drank a couple of small cups. hey, it's 25 cents. lol. Its a small neighborhood dive bar. As many people said in other reviews, don't be scared. lol. Everyone is really nice and friendly. I'll be back to check it out again. read more

This small, divey bar has lots of charm. It fits in well with the neighborhood. I tried it on a Saturday at 10p. I was the only person there (besides the DJ and bar tender). The TV was playing a DVD of some reggae history documentary while the DJ spun a reggae mega-mix. Oh! Two people just showed up. Excellent. They also had Red Stripe. Good choice. Wait... It this a reggae cover of Tracey Chapman's Fast Car? Yup. And another person just showed up. The bar tender tells me people start to come by right about this time. I'll give it another try in a bit. read more

I have to meet half way with this place because for one I love Reggae and this is about the only place to get it in San Antonio, but with that said; don't plan a night out at this place because they open and close when they want to. It's pretty much a risk driving there whether or not they will be open and for that reason... 3 stars, would be 2 1/2 if it was an option. Get some standard hours of operation and stick to them and then 5 stars. read more

Good Food tonight, good music I'm coming back if you're coming with me. Screaming at somebody is not a good wait to meet, so I'm saying Hello. Goodnight. read more

The Reggae Bar - Hanging out on the patio! - Bars Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

If I could give this place a zero I would .. The bathroom was insanitary ! The music was not even REGGAE! we ordered a Malibu and pineapple and Mr Kevin pour us Bacardi.. he was literally smoking cigarettes in our faces ! He was so nice at first when we were spending money! And the moment we decided not to drink anymore at 1:10am they decided to stop the music and asked us to leave . BY THE WAY DO NOT PARK INFRONT Of this place or in IN VISITORS PARKING BECAUSE YOU WILL GET TOWED! we asked the owner about the towing situation and I was so taken aback because he started yelling how this is not our country ! And here in America you will get towed and was so rude ... I do not recommend at all and this is proof why it's so hard for the minorities to make it in America . Not because of Americans but because of the minorities ourselves and being an immigrant him selves he should be ashamed of himelves making a statement like that .. read more

My uncle was going here during the week and the manager was pretty much bragging that friday gets packed. This was on a Wednesday so my uncle calls me and tells me about so I get excited and ready to roll! So friday finally gets here and we go there. To my eyes I see a little shack off Austin hwy. So I believe in the benefit of the doubt theory. So we go in and its an extremely large woman at the bar and some dudes there. We got there kind of early expecting it to get packed later. Well anyway after about 2 and a half hours it gets packed nothing but dudes. Its already 1am and the manager is still telling us to stay. To make a long story short I had better friday nights than this. It looks like a house turned club! Don't waste your time! read more

I didn't like it because it was sooooo small. On the nite me and my friend went, there was about 13 people there. They played pretty good reggae music. Overall wasn't worth my time. read more

Being from out of town, I just wanted somewhere easy to go to with good music. This place has a bashment party feel to it. The owners are welcoming and the people are nice. You can sit and have a drink or get up and dance because it's non stop good reggae. read more

Yes! sangdiddelidang slang! Its a cool place. With the wall of sound, beer-filled coolers, and 'nuff wicked selectas, the Reggae Bar is a true JA dancehall. From the moment I first walked in over a year ago, I loved it! By looking at the other reviews, it seems like some people get it and some people don't. You'll have to find out for yourself to which category you belong . . . . read more

This place is a bittersweet one for me. I love the fact that I can go in chill clothes and just vibe out to reggae with my friends. It usually doesn't get popping til about 12, so take your time getting there. I wanna say its usually dollar red stripe, not sure about liquor prices. It closes around 3 but they have a place across the street that keeps things going til 6 if it's really live. I'll always come here read more

This place is so great! Everyone I've ran into is friendly i never mind stopping by for some drinks and a chat with bartender whether a weekday or weekend, it's garrenteed a sweet reggae atmosphere. They are open everyday which I love. The back patio area is really relaxing.. And also the food is quite tasty! The concerts and events that go on are crazy memorable in the best way.. I consider this my little get away spot! One love Reggae Bar! Keep it up!! read more

It's a dive bar, smoky and loud. It's the kinds of place I would go to again if I lived closer. It's cheap beer and loud reggae. Come in, have a beer, all kinds, no one cares what you look like or about your opinions. Just come in, relax, smoke um if you got um. read more

Horrible management!!!! Prices are outrageously ubsurb and the bathroom isn't sanitary. Everything is falling apart in there as well as the way they keep the coolers where the beer is stored. Just gross. 0.5 stars read more

The Dj sucks but the atmosphere is nice. I'm here from out of town and the entire nite I was waiting for the Dj to get his shit together. Ugh...but I love tha owner and his vibes. read more

Horrible management! Paid $30 to see Sister Nancy and didn't preform until 1:45am! (Flyer indicated 8-10; staff claimed 10pm) Waste of money! Horrible customer service! No refund was issued because it's a "dance hall" event. read more

Went in there Christmas night because I saw their ad on facebook. As soon as we arrive, the Reggae music stopped and some European style slow club music started playing. It's just a hole in the wall place to stop and have a bottle of something, but I at least want to hear some Reggae while there. read more

Had high hopes, but pulling into the parking lot I became apprehensive. It was really dark. Walked in, it was smoky, even darker than outside and there was a foul odor. The place is tore up from the floor up to say the least. I stood at the bar several minutes without getting acknowledged even though the bartender wasn't waiting on anyone (there were maybe a handful of people) and when I finally asked if I could order a drink, I was told they only serve beer. Needless to say I WILL NEVER RETURN!! read more

I have been to Reggae Bar more than once. I feel like it's not for everyone. However, its ok, this is a layed back spot that you can only appreciate if you have an acquired taste for great reggae with a simple twist. If you truely know the meaning of reggae your relize it is all about simplicity, freiends, great food and plenty of great reggae music! So go out and support San Antonio's "only"" Reggae Club because, that's the only way, we will see another one pop up!!! We need more reaggae places for sure but " for now " we need to support Reggae Bar!! One Love!! read more

wicked atmosphere with great music, friendly people and a great staff!!!!they have live bands on weekends that play real JA reggae music. this bar has given rise to the community of islanders, music lovers and more in san antonio that want, need, and appreciate their culture, music and vibe. This is a great place, full of great energy and the best music. The bartender, Angel, makes you feel right at home and provides great service. She is someone you will never forget.! Very friendly manager, gave me and my boyfriend a free beer to start off for our first time there. The DJs are excellent. You wouldnt expect this place to be full of fun until you go in and the overall building size has nothing to do with the vibes this place creates. I give it 5 stars, no doubt. read more

So I have heard decent things about this place so we decided to go. It was just ok. We were a lil over dressed and there was a cover charge Saturday. I dont mind paying a cover but I do expect to have air condition. It was hot and thats not even the worse part of the night. Their parking is horrible so about 10 or so cars parked next door and my friends car was towed. I know its not the bars fault but maybe they should mention it being that their parking sucks.....I might go back if the improve on the parking situation and maybe if its in the winter so its not so damn HOT. read more

Horrible management and prices. When you have a ticket to a show that says 9pm you expect the start to be no later than 930 or 10 oh but "THIS IS DANCEHALL" I'm sorry but that isn't a valid excuse in my opinion. The manager was rude, door girl didn't have a clue and bartender was in over her head. They obviously never have big acts at their establishment. I will never go back the only thing the have going for them is the back patio I found it nice but the bad customer service blows it for me. read more

The Reggae Bar is managed by a crook. The owner Kelvin is unprofessional and inconsiderate of customers. The Facebook page for the Reggae Bar says open at 4pm-2am on the weekdays. I went to purchase the Reggae Festival tickets and I had to wait in the blazing heat for the owner to arrive. He said 6 pm and did not arrive until 7:00 pm. He organizes the Reggae Festival in San Antonio. At the Reggae festival, the staff forget to give me a wrist band and the owner, Kelvin, started questioning me even after I waited an hour in the hot sun to get the ticket. After explaining to Kelvin the situation he didn't care and refused to let me stay at the festival. We left and realized that this establishment deserves 0 stars. The Reggae bar has horrible management, bad customer service, and the owner is very unprofessional. This establishment will not last for long. Please spend your money elsewhere like a more authentic Jamaican spot. I recommend Jamaica Jamaica Cuisine which is next door to the bar. This was the worst bar I have seen in San Antonio! read more
