My daughter's and I found this gem when visiting San Antonio. Even though we missed the first part of Monday open mic. We were able to be blessed with one amazing poet that kicked the evening into the perfect vibe. Davon picked it up from there and entertained us with his amazing rap lyrics. Who I only enhance the vibe that much more. However, the greatest part of the night was Kevin the owner. He is simply amazing . I've been here a handful of times and every time is a good time with friendly staff and friendly ppl (when I go) . Restrooms aren't too clean but it's a bar so keep that in mind. I have not tried the food here though. read more

An authentic reggae bar that's San Antonio's Little Jamaica! This place is legit. They blast the reggae, and it has a real reggae vibe to it. Irie! Beer prices start at $4, and they serve authentic Red Stripe. Hooray Beer! When I went, I showed up on a full moon, and didn't feel exactly welcome inside. But hanging out back, there was a kicking band, and a covered area to stay out of the sun, or chill on the patio. There was plenty of parking behind the other buildings next to the place. If you're into reggae, this is probably the best place on this side of town. They're across the street from Jamaica Jamaica, an incredible restaurant. This isn't a typical bar. It's more like a chill out spot to hang out. You don't have to dress up or anything but if you do that's find too. If you are use to JA crowd you will love it. They play REAL JAMAICAN music they also have a real JA deejay that actually play dancehall music. I was surprised to walk in after 9pm on a Friday night and hear Movado and Busy Signal music on blast. There was no crowd though. There is a giant back part of the place where when you go out there its like walking through the artsy part of Kingston JA or even "dung ah shop" in the country areas. There are rasta colors everywhere and there's a big Jamaica flag painted out there. I was so happy to see it. They don't mix fancy drinks but they have a good selection of hard liquor. They have Wrey and Nephew white rum but unfortunately they don't have Appleton Rum. Lol. I went there 2 more additional times after I finished bar hopping. One of the first places in San Antonio that I've really felt at home; filthy, but at home. ;) if nothing else, Reggae Bar is open 7 days a week from 4 pm to 2 pm. The beers are cheap and frosty cold. The website advertises live reggae from all over the United States, but we also saw a punk show one random Saturday night ... and felt OLD (I'm 27). Monday is hip hop night and there are some great DJs every night of the week. Never been, but I hear they serve Caribbean food on the patio every Sunday afternoon. The only thing I didn't like about this place is that it's a beer only bar, Other than that every thing was awesome! This is a dive bar for sure. But it's the kinda dive I love! This small, divey bar has lots of charm. It fits in well with the neighborhood. I tried it on a Saturday at 10p. I was the only person there (besides the DJ and bar tender). The TV was playing a DVD of some reggae history documentary while the DJ spun a reggae mega-mix. Oh! Two people just showed up. Excellent. They also had Red Stripe. Good choice. Wait... I have to meet half way with this place because for one I love Reggae and this is about the only place to get it in San Antonio, but with that said; don't plan a night out at this place because they open and close when they want to. It's pretty much a risk driving there whether or not they will be open and for that reason... 3 stars, would be 2 1/2 if it was an option. The music was not even REGGAE! we ordered a Malibu and pineapple and Mr Kevin pour us Bacardi.. he was literally smoking cigarettes in our faces ! He was so nice at first when we were spending money! And the moment we decided not to drink anymore at 1:10am they decided to stop the music and asked us to leave . BY THE WAY DO NOT PARK INFRONT Of this place or in IN VISITORS PARKING BECAUSE YOU WILL GET TOWED! we asked the owner about the towing situation and I was so taken aback because he started yelling how this is not our country ! And here in America you will get towed and was so rude ... I do not recommend at all and this is proof why it's so hard for the minorities to make it in America . My uncle was going here during the week and the manager was pretty much bragging that friday gets packed. This was on a Wednesday so my uncle calls me and tells me about so I get excited and ready to roll! So friday finally gets here and we go there. To my eyes I see a little shack off Austin hwy. So I believe in the benefit of the doubt theory. So we go in and its an extremely large woman at the bar and some dudes there. We got there kind of early expecting it to get packed later. Well anyway after about 2 and a half hours it gets packed nothing but dudes. Its already 1am and the manager is still telling us to stay. Had high hopes, but pulling into the parking lot I became apprehensive. It was really dark. Walked in, it was smoky, even darker than outside and there was a foul odor. The place is tore up from the floor up to say the least. I stood at the bar several minutes without getting acknowledged even though the bartender wasn't waiting on anyone (there were maybe a handful of people) and when I finally asked if I could order a drink, I was told they only serve beer. I have been to Reggae Bar more than once. I feel like it's not for everyone. However, its ok, this is a layed back spot that you can only appreciate if you have an acquired taste for great reggae with a simple twist. If you truely know the meaning of reggae your relize it is all about simplicity, freiends, great food and plenty of great reggae music! This is a great place, full of great energy and the best music. The bartender, Angel, makes you feel right at home and provides great service. She is someone you will never forget.! Very friendly manager, gave me and my boyfriend a free beer to start off for our first time there. The DJs are excellent. So I have heard decent things about this place so we decided to go. It was just ok. We were a lil over dressed and there was a cover charge Saturday. I dont mind paying a cover but I do expect to have air condition. It was hot and thats not even the worse part of the night. Their parking is horrible so about 10 or so cars parked next door and my friends car was towed. I know its not the bars fault but maybe they should mention it being that their parking sucks.....I might go back if the improve on the parking situation and maybe if its in the winter so its not so damn HOT. read more

The Reggae Bar is managed by a crook. The owner Kelvin is unprofessional and inconsiderate of customers. The Facebook page for the Reggae Bar says open at 4pm-2am on the weekdays. I went to purchase the Reggae Festival tickets and I had to wait in the blazing heat for the owner to arrive. He said 6 pm and did not arrive until 7:00 pm. He organizes the Reggae Festival in San Antonio. At the Reggae festival, the staff forget to give me a wrist band and the owner, Kelvin, started questioning me even after I waited an hour in the hot sun to get the ticket. After explaining to Kelvin the situation he didn't care and refused to let me stay at the festival. We left and realized that this establishment deserves 0 stars. The Reggae bar has horrible management, bad customer service, and the owner is very unprofessional. This establishment will not last for long. Please spend your money elsewhere like a more authentic Jamaican spot. I recommend Jamaica Jamaica Cuisine which is next door to the bar. This was the worst bar I have seen in San Antonio! read more
