So... there was a jam playing and I was walking in, ready to party. My husband had to use the restroom. As I was jamming out waiting to get served at the bar (with only 2 customers), the bartender told me to move to his register with an aggressive face like wtf we're at a nightclub bar .. I mean, he can't take my order and serve me where the hell I was?? So I said F it, I'll go somewhere else. As soon as my husband left the bathroom, I said let's go. It just so happened the dumbass bartender who had nothing to do, walked out with my husband and said "let me read you something, there's no public restrooms!". Like wtf?! He even stayed outside with security watching us leave lol like what the hell?! Keep an eye out for this fool. He lost business. read more

Stoked to come to San Antonio and find a place that offered kind of a goth/rocker atmosphere. We came in from California looking for something fun to do in the area, and this place had a great DJ, decently priced drinks and it wasn't too packed. I had a cider, the wait wasn't terrible. Cheap drinks and good music. I went on a Saturday night with the family. They had a DJ. They had happy hour till 9. Drinks are pretty inexpensive. The bartenders were awesome. They were fast and even modified a drink for our group. They have a pool table and darts to keep you entertained. That night, they had a few people selling crafts. The crowd is a mix. Anyone fits in. It's pretty laid back. There's a food truck outside and your able to bring the food in. Parking is available behind the mix which is right next door. read more

Wow did my two friends and I really stick out like sore thumbs here during Emo night. After The Growlers concert at Paper Tiger across the street, one friend suggested we head over here (where there was air conditioning) for a drink and just to cool off. All three of us are in our early 30s, and the crowd that night looked very mid-20s-ish, despite listening to a lot of music that was big when WE were in high school. My bleach blonde pink hair stood out amidst a sea of black hair and even blacker eyeliner (and some guy-liner, too). My friend's pink and white striped button down also made him easy to spot in a sea of black shirts and fishnet stockings. Nonetheless, we had a good time there, much of it spent catching our breaths, recuperating, and playing some fun "guess that band!" mini-trivia as song after song from our olden days filled the room. read more

Get Amped! This is a great place to catch a live show on the St Mary's Strip. Located between Joey's and Chisme. I enjoy the intimate feel of this place- a small stage with plenty of lounge-like seating- sofas, easy chairs, etc. Lots of places to gather a big group around and take in the tunes. It's cool how the bar has coins lacquered into the bar top so you can check out weird currencies from foreign lands. A numismatist's dream! The bar service was rather slow, and I got overcharged for my drinks/cover. I feel a bit like I got hustled a bit on the bar tab, and if I had paid cash I'd have had less problems. But I should give the benefit of the doubt, and maybe I just wasn't paying attention. The place was clean, and the restrooms were nice. A cool spot in SATX. This seems very hipster and trendy from what I could tell. The decor had various music equipment on the walls. There was a band, but oddly, very few people on a Saturday night. Went there for their 80s night. FALSE advertising. DJ GenX can't transition from one track to another to save his life. You can hear very song that's coming (not in a good way)...might as well just put on YouTube and let people pick their own songs. He played a couple of 80s songs then tried to get away from it by playing modern dance music. I asked if he took song requests and he said he did, asked for Erasure...easy right? Nope. Never got played. But he did play stupid crystal castles and some other dance music...in fact, he completely steered away from 80s altogether and played electronic dance/techno music. Why have an 80s night when you don't play 80s? The drinks were ok, vodka cranberry was very diluted and Dos X were overpriced. The vibe was nice. The music selection by the dj really sucked. They need a better dj that knows how to transition from track to track, cuz that shit was whack af. read more

Full disclosure: We've only come to the Amp Room when it's super dead and we're waiting for a show at Paper Tiger or for Hi-Tones to open. That being said, we come here because the vibe is cool, service is great, and prices are low. I can't vouch for busy nights or music here, but I will say that they have some pretty stellar drink specials. The $5 beer + shot combo may have been my undoing on a few occasions (I need to learn NOT to pre-drink before heading to a show at Paper Tiger) but it's a hell of a deal. They also serve Busted Sandal in cans, so I'm pretty excited about that. So like I said, this place is a pretty chill place to hang if you're waiting for the line at Paper Tiger to cool down or pre-gaming. Prices won't getcha down, and it seems to be pretty dead around 8, before St. Mary's really wakes up, so you'll have the bartender's full attention. :) Maybe one day I'll last long enough to see the Amp Room in its full glory, but I'm fully content experiencing it during its slow times. read more

Went to the Amp room this past weekend and it was okay. I did have a good time but I came here for a specific reason: To watch the boxing fight (Canelo vs Cotto). When arriving I have to give it to the hostess. She charged me $15 instead of the $10 she charged the group (I didn't find out till later). So okay, she got her hustle on. I was drinking so I didn't want to approach her, not important at that point. We got seated by the band that was playing. There were a lot of us but they had enough seats for all. This bar was a pretty good size. They also have an outdoor seating area where they set up heating lamps. The ladies restroom was clean but I wish they had seat covers. When the fight started they started setting up these white chairs and they have the projector screen pulled down for a better view. Well that didn't work. It kept on going in and out and made it hard to watch the fight. Luckily there were two medium size flat screens that on each side. The view sucked but ya deal with what you got right? Immediately after the fight the band started to play. And I mean they didn't let the winner of the fight tell his speech. It was okay you know who won let's start playing. The drinks the bartenders made were okay. I didn't care too much for "water." After the fight we all left. I did like how they had a taco truck right outside of the bar. I don't remember what it was called but it was good. I paid $7 for 4 mini tacos. Everything tastes good when you've been drinking. LOL We called UBER and off to the hotel we went. read more

I like this place. I have not gone as a customer only as a performer. Their prices are fair especially for being near down town and the sound is awesome! Their parking is limited in front. There is a food truck across the street and you can bring food back. The two bar tenders I've seen have been very nice and quick. read more

I've been to this bar a couple times and it's been alright. But this past Sunday I did not have a great experience and felt pretty offended. I assume to compete with Brass they had $3 you call it's, so a female friend and I went to check it out. Upon entering on a busy weekend night, there was no person to check IDs which I thought was odd. Then I get to the bar that's pretty crowded with only three female bar tenders. A man arrives to my left after me, and a bit after that another to my right. More time passes and the bartender helps the man to my right that arrived last of all of us first, ignores my female friend and I, and then attends to the other man to my left. He nicely said to help us since we were waiting longer, in which the first thing does is ask to see both our IDs, which she didn't ask for from any of the male patrons I observed before us. Pretty sure she skimped on our two double shots and also was charged $12.99 for them. When I go to Brass Monkey or Thirsty Camel for their special nights I never pay tax which I assume this extra change charged was. On a separate time coming here I was ID'd at the door and then again once at the bar which seemed a bit tedious. I'm not sure if I'll be returning with my business again but for everyone else's sake please figure out a better system and treat all your patrons the same. Thanks. read more

I thought this place was cool but after we receive the bad service I will never go back I don't even want to give them one star cause the service sucks....
