I have found the man to be very unwelcoming and difficult to work with. Really ruins the experience. I advise against order from them. Business is about more than just food, it is okay at best, but also the experience. If I could I would give them a zero. We have been regulars and they treat us like trash. Saw this place got some less than stellar reviews... had to say something, because that's crazy. I dont usually review or comment but: I'm just a silly little white girl, and what do I know about spice - but I swear, this is the best food _of any kind_ I've EVER had, bar none. Anyone who gives this less than 5 stars is out of their mind in my humble opinion. To be fair, I haven't ordered everything on the menu, but I'm never disappointed when i branch out from my usual: I order the Curry House's Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Ponir, and Chicken Korma at least once a week. My god where do I start ??? Walked in the place it was dead cold I put my hood back on to keep warm. My father ordered an appetizer lol and they didn't even bring plates for us to eat on Lol. it's like a bunch young kids standing around not checking the tables and also not doing anything right we had to get up and go find them how sad. The owner looked like he wanted to kill everybody It was really sad. The owner looked like an emotionless lump of sadness so odd. If you order off the menu instead of eating the underwhelming, ill-stocked and inadequately heated buffet items, you'll be fine. Yes, the dishes are a tad greasy, but they are perfectly seasoned. The lamb saag is delish, as is the lamb dilder and madras. The naan is fine, and the rice comes steaming hot with a small garnish of green peas and caramelized onion. Decor is dingy and homely, but don't let that turn you off from the food. I'd rather they keep their prices low and keep the decor plain. It's a family-run place. The father has warmed up to us over the years. The one problem I have is the use of food dyes - in both the mango lassi and in the green sauce. Totally unnecessary. The green in the sauce is of a shade not found in nature. The flavor is fine, but who wants to ingest dyes?! Likewise, the mango lassi is tasty, albeit watery, but I don't like ordering it because of the dye. I hope the owner heeds these reviews and considers dropping the dyes. read more

The Red Hook Curry House has been a local favorite of mine for years. Indian is my comfort food of choice. Mohammed and his wife never disappoint. Both are very courteous as are the staff they hire. Tuesday can be very crowded and finding parking can be tricky being the that it is buffet night. My go to's are the Tikka Biriyani, Korma, and beef Rogon. Note - alcohol is not served here, but I have seen patrons bring their own wine. read more

I LOVE the Curry House-it's one of those rare restaurants in a small town where everything is good because, really, I'm sick of sandwiches and burgers all the time. I need a little variety! I'm all about flavor and indian food is definitely ALL flavor. The Sunday and Tuesday night buffets...amazing. The food is different every week too, so it's a good change up. You can also bring your own beer or wine with your meal, so that's cool. The thing is, my indian friends HATE this place. Some of them say it's too creamy, some of them say it's not spicy enough. We often come to redhook from Hudson to do our shopping and dining, It's always a pleasure to stop At The Redhook Curry House any time of the day, I Believe their lamb to be the most tenderest around, their korma is delish ! I love a good curry dish. I try a new curry house any time I come across one. I live not to far from the Redhook curry house and have been going there for just about ever. I even use to go to the Chinese restaurant that was there prior to the change in cuisines. A change for the better. The papdum and the fresh shrimp app are amazing... then I have tried just about every dish the, great biriani and vindalue. The nan breads,omg so good and fresh. Get a garlic! But the show stopper is the Teeka massalla sause. They will make it with anything. I switch from chicken to lamb, they are very accommodating. The older fella who is always there I think he is an owner or something, is always welcoming even remembers what I order... I have become pradictible. Well enought rambling and terrible spelling. I lived in Jackson Heights Queens which is known as the place to go for Indian Food in any of NYCs 5 boroughs. I prefer this restaurant over Jackson Diner by a long shot and any others in the 34th st area. When I had someone from New Delhi staying with me he said that Red Hook Curry was the best he's had in the USA. Really great food that won't upset you like certain downtown Manhattan spots are known to do if you know where I am coming from. read more

I don't know why other reviewers complained about the service and the décor -- as far as I could tell, they didn't have either. The food, on the other hand, was mostly really nice. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and my gourmand kid ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. They were both really really nice. I had the leftover tikka masala for lunch today, it was great. The rest of the family had the buffet though and most of it was cold. They were not happy with that. Best Indian I've had in the Hudson Valley. Can't write food review because 4 of us arrived at 220 on Sunday Jan 8 and were told restaurant was closing at 3 to prepare for dinner buffet. There was only one table occupied by two people in otherwise empty restaurant. We told the greeter we had a 4pm movie nearby and would be leaving by 330, but he said we couldn't be served or stay past 3 pm. It seemed to us he didn't want our business so we went to the nearby diner and had a very nice meal, then movie. Won't be visiting again, although we've been there many times in the past. Tonight was my first time eating dinner by myself, the food was somewhat good, however, I was very disappointed in the service. I believe the husband/owner of the restaurant waited on me, he barely made eye contact with me, never offered any other drinks​ besides pouring me water, and he didn't even offer any bread. I noticed how he treated everyone else better than he treated me. I was very polite, but he basically didn't return the favor. The wife was very nice, though. The food is delicious and worth the 30-35 minute drive. However, the owner is very rude. I went down there yesterday with my boyfriend and his friend. When my boyfriend called the curry house to make sure they allowed dine in before driving all the way down there, the lady said they do and asked if we were vaccinated saying to provide proof of vaccination. When we went down there the owner then asked about being vaccinated and when he knew 2 out of 3 of us were not vaccinated (mind you we were wearing masks in the restaurant) he was very rude and originally didn't want to seat us saying we have to be vaccinated in order to eat there from now on. When he did seat us, he was just like "what do you need?" When he took our order. Very very rude man. You can't refuse to serve people just for not being vaccinated especially when they're still wearing masks. It's discrimination and people have a choice whether or not they get vaccinated. I love the place. The food is always good if not great. The owner is very nice, as is his family. Being a family-run restaurant it can be slow if it's a full house, but I'd always rather give my business to a mom and pop. Portions nearly always supply lunch for the next day. I personally avoid the buffet nights. I'm not a big fan of the buffet concept or the crowd that hovers and haunts over the dishes. I've had Indian food all over the country (admittedly not in India) and this place hits the price point perfectly. I notice a few complaints that I think I can address. If you want spicy, order it spicy. If you don't want a creamy dish, don't order a creamy dish. The decor... it's part of its idiosyncratic charm. You have to learn a restaurant. A friend told me about this place so we went to check it out during the Sunday night buffet. The place was pretty crowded so we had maybe a 5 min wait to seat the two of us. We were shown our seats, given some water and then ignored for the rest of the time there. Never given a menu or even an explanation as to how the buffet system works. Finally we waved down the water boy and he explained everything. So we both get the buffet and it's pretty good. We finish and then sit and sit. Nobody grabs our dirty plates, asks if we need anything else (like desert!) or so much as looks our way - and this place is small. It seemed very odd. So we finally waved the host down and asked him for the check, at which point he asked us if we were finished. Huh? We paid and left no tip. Zero. We love Red Hook Curry House! The owners are friendly and make a point of giving you the best food. The food is always delicious and consistently the same. We love that! Our favorites are Chicken Tikka Masala, Shag Ponir, Navratan Korma, and Tamarind Chicken ( chefs special meal that you have to call ahead for). My favorite app is Bhujia and papadum wafer. My daughter loves the Mango Lassi drink. You can BYOB or BYOW and no corking fee. Awesome!! We eat or take out food every week. read more

My wife and I had buffet on Sunday 072416 at about 6PM. Two dinners for $30, what's not to like, right? Let me start with the food. Unfortunately, not so good. Though I will admit that I myself have bought chicken that turned out dry and fibrous and tasteless despite the best efforts of the cook. Perhaps this was the case, IDK. But to us, the diners, all three chicken dishes were a disappointment. That lamb dish, however, was the one redeeming factor in tonight's less than stellar meal.Next, let me just touch on the mostly cold (coolish) augmentary items: As most of your customers, we did not come to an Indian restaurant to enjoy a salad, the vast majority of components of which are easily obtainable from our own garden and/or refrigerator, and that includes the Walmart mini-gherkins and salad olives. Would much prefer more traditional Indian foods, and less American offerings. (For instance, oh how we miss the homemade Indian pickles and the amazingly wonderful Indian-style ice cream both of which the owner of the now-closed Cinnamon Restaurant in Hyde Park made himself!) Enough about the food. Bottom line: we've had better despite the many glowing reviews, and we're sorry that tonight we chose RHCH over Tanjore in Fishkill. Now, let me move on to environmental. Again, in fairness, I feel obliged to disclose that this day's weather peaked in the mid to upper 90's. Likewise in fairness, I was not the only diner in the crowded restaurant who was using their napkin to wipe the sweat from their face! But I'm the one who opened my mouth and asked the server to crank up the A/C. Because I have no desire to turn this review into a book, let me simply say the staid and unfriendly owner's reply delivered to me via the server was . . . No! So, a mediocre meal, eaten with sweat running down our faces, while just a few miles away in Hyde Park the now closed Cinnamon Restaurant now has two large signs proclaiming:New Indian Restaurant Coming Soon. Personally, my wife and I are very much looking forward to that. Oh, and PS: My wife and I had to ask for ice to chill down the tepid tap water. I've been going to the Red Hook Curry House for the last 2 years, and I think it's finally time to review it. 1. The buffet is very mediocre. Just order off the menu. 2. Garlic nan ***** LOVE IT 3. I've tried almost all the items on the menu. Chicken Korma and Chicken Vindaloo (very spicy) are my favorite. Everything else is pretty good except for the mixed vegetable curry, which had awful, overcooked, bland vegetables. 4. Order in if possible because the service is sometimes terrible. Once, I went with a friend and we were one of three tables in the restaurant. It took 20 minutes for them to come take our order and another hour and 15 for our food to come out. There was no one at the front of the restaurant (they were all in the kitchen) to ask what was going on. We both had to be somewhere, and it was so annoying that we didn't return for months. I've had several other experiences where other tables who had been seated after mine, were served before us. Basically, don't go if you are in a rush or just order in. 5. No it's not NYC, but it's one of the best restaurant options in this town. read more

I have been coming here for twelve years and I can tell you the place has not changed one bit. The affordable dishes, slightly musty smell of the foyer when you walk in, the "rude" service -- it's stayed true to its charm and I think they're clearly doing something right because they're still in business. The staff who have been there since the beginning are genuine to themselves and if they feel like it, they will engage you in conversation but it's not a place where the staff shower you in pleasantries. So yeah, the service is really different from what I experienced when I went to India, but I thought the flavors actually pretty similar (at least I thought, from my naive western palette). And I think that's hard to accomplish. If you've been to NYC, this is definitely comparable to some of the best places in Curry Hill. I go here whenever I teach at Bard and I bring anyone willing to go with me and I've never had any complaints! Once, the waiter even dropped the plates on us when clearing our table (they were empty of course, since the food is delicious). The interior lacks the show-offy vibe of some of the places you'll find in Kingston or Rhinecliff, so if you're looking for an overpriced, fancy restaurant -- this won't be it. If, however, what you want is a slightly awkward (though highly affordable) experience eating Indian food in the Hudson Valley -- this is the place for you. read more

Very good. A worthy competitor for Cinnamon. We had the Sunday evening buffet - good value even at $15 vs the $12.95 referenced by the website. Positives - nice assortment of pakoras, a very tasty mushroom and spinach dish, parathas as well as naans and a fish korma. Negatives - no indian pickles or chutneys, olives and gherkins have their place but are no substitute for Indian fare. not a negative by any means but papadoms would be a special treat. I have been here many times over the years and have never had a bad dinner. They are delicious and consistent. They do not have a liquor license however, You can bring your own beer or wine. Taj Mahal or Fisher King Indian beer is always fun to bring and drink there. Nice vegetarian dishes too. It's nice that they are their. We tried the curry house for the first time on Friday night. Two thumbs up. We had the appetizer platter, which included a variety of appetizers that we shared. Then we had Lamb Korma and chicken Curry... both were good, but the lamb korma was fantastic. The sauce was creamy and both dishes included sizable portions of meat. The service was great too. Since they don't serve alcohol, we brought our own wine, and we weren't charged a cork fee. The owner is quite nice but reserved, which some people may interpret in a negative way. My large family (over 10 people) came in at around closing time but we were still seated and attended to. The owner let his waitress go as her shift was up and attended to us himself. The food was fresh and everything we had was made on the spot. In fact he would tell us himself what to order so it could be made fresh specifically for us.
