I was driving by, and I saw the sign, and so I decided to stop for lunch. I'm definitely glad I did. It appears that they do a lot of takeout, as there were only three tables inside the restaurant. It's obviously a family run place, because of one of the children was playing with their toys off in a corner of the kitchen. I decided to go for the shrimp toast, appetizer, and the lunch, special of shrimp and lobster sauce with vegetable fried rice, and wonton soup. The food came quick, and it was absolutely amazing. The shrimp toast was crunchy, and had a lot of filling in it. You could definitely taste the shrimp. There were six of them in the appetizer, which was very generous for the price. I was going to take a few home with me, but I couldn't stop eating them. I finished off the whole appetizer. I loved the shrimp in lobster sauce. At first, I was confused, because it was like an egg drop soup with shrimp in it. I thought it was going to be a Brown sauce. Then I realized, that's what lobster sauce is I was confusing lobster sauce with oyster sauce. The soup was creamy, rich, and delicious. There were "only" four shrimp in the bowl. I say "only" because those shrimp were huge! They were tender and delicious, and a very generous portion. The fried rice had a good flavor to it as well the rice was not under or overdone, and they were generous with the veggies.. I ended up taking home some of my shrimp main dish, and all of my wonton soup. The wonton soup reheated, wonderfully, the broth was delicious, and the wontons were tender. We are walk-in, take-out, cash customers every month or two. We're quite satisfied with the reasonably-priced food and think it rates 4+ for take-out. Our order is always ready on time. About that: if you've phoned in your order, try to arrive at the when-promised time, as the waiting space is rather drab. We also recommend asking for an itemized sales slip to make sure every item paid for is included. At each of our last two visits we were disappointed, once home, to find the "extra sauce" item absent--but charged for. We'll chalk them up to honest mistakes, but the owners should guard against risking an even worse appearance. We're sorry to give Kai's only a 3+ for now, but it's with a promise to revise upward after a few problem-free visits to come. read more

Wow! Another person said the same thing I did. Passed by SO many times and never stopped in. The food has great flavor and decent portions. Prices are still reasonable which is a great perk! There's no indoor eating it's strictly to go. They use a third party for ordering/paying. But if you're like me and travel all around to eat, they do have a bathroom you can use. I heard this place had amazing food so I thought I would give it a try. I didn't want to dive right in so I ordered two appetizers. Pan fried wonton with garlic sauce. Oh my so delishous. Great portion. Awesome flavors with a slight spice. Next time I will get them with the spicy heat kicked up. Chicken wings with garlic sauce. Yummy. Big wings with big flavors once again. I was sooo hungry when I stopped at Kai's Kitchen. After spending 10 minutes reviewing the menu, I decided to order2 things from the Lunch Menu: #12 - Crispy Eggplant with Garlic Sauce and #19 - Beef Broccoli w/Garlic Sauce. I ordered both with white rice and one with Hot and Sour Soup and the other with a Pepsi ( - I know , bad girl) and for good measure, an order of Pam Fried Dumplings. The soup was delicious - flavorful, complex broth. The dumplings - 8 very big ones - were bursting at the seams with a large, well flavored pork dumpling. The Crispy Eggplant was just that - crispy and well flavored with the garlic sauce. The beef was thinly sliced, tender, and liberally flavored with garlic, as I like it. The portions were quite large and be dinner for tonight as well. If I lived in the area, this would certainly be a "go to" for Chinese take out or to eat in. The location is immediately next to La Florentina. The inside is quite modest and on par for quick American Chinese food. 3 two top tables 6 counter bar height seats 3 booths Nothing fancy. No real decor. Very simple., I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan which was steaming hot & came with Chicken, bok Choy, water chestnuts, mushrooms, pea pods & carrots. Chicken was all white meat & theres was a proportional ratio of meat to veggies. I ordered 2 pork egg rolls which were hot & very good but again on par with other good American Chinese take out restaurants. I also ordered chicken fried rice which was not drenched in soy sauce which was fab bc I hate that. The ingredients (peas, carrots, onions & Chicken) were FRESH too. (Some places use questionable day old meat etc. which bums me out). The portions are a nice size. Not huge but a nice amount per entree. They do not offer delivery which is a bummer but not a huge deal. This is American Chinese Food but it's FRESH, HOT & VERY GOOD. Definitely recommended!!!! read more

Tonight we ordered from Kai's kitchen in Kingston, NY. When i got home and opened the two containers of chicken/ broccoli and Chicken chow mein I immediately knew the chicken was bad. It smelled like old fish. I brought the entire 39.00 order back to the shop and the owner refused to refund my money. He said," I had to wait for another customer to come in and taste the food, if they said it did not taste good, he would refund my money"! Seriously, WHAT??? Kai's has always been a great place to get good, well priced Chinese to go. We've been on a health kick tonight so we ordered sauce on the side with brown rice. Unfortunately the brown rice didn't make it in the bag. So I call and get no answer, and then go to the restaurant 5 mins away. They're closed! At 8:45 they were closed. There are updated hours for 9pm on Saturdays, but they must have been headed out the door when I picked up at 8:35. It's very unlike Kai's for this to happen. We are almost always happy, and we've been eating here for the better part of a decade. So while reading this, know that it is very uncommon. Definitely get the dumplings in hot chili oil. We tried Kai's Kitchen after seeing some posts on Facebook by friends. I have to say I wasn't expecting too much. We stopped in on the way to the mall and picked up a to go menu. After shopping we looked over the menu in the HV Mall parking lot and then called in our order. With the traffic it would take us 15 minutes to get there. I also had to stop and get gas. We were told the order would be ready in 15 minutes. We arrived 20 minutes later and still had to wait 15 more minutes. It is basically a take out joint with a few tables. I felt uncomfortable waiting because we were standing near a booth where two gentleman were eating and I felt like we were infringing on their space. We ordered quite a few things to really get a feel for the food. Although it took longer to then expected to get our order it was well worth the wait. The food was AMAZING! From the Scallion Pancakes to the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce everything was delicious! The Vegetable Chow Mai Fun had so much flavor and the vegetables were so fresh and crisp. We also tried the Lemon Chicken, Mixed Wonton Soup, Chicken Egg Foo Young, Shrimp Rolls and the House Special Fried Rice. I can honestly say that nothing was lacking in flavor or portion size. Kai's Kitchen is our new go to place for Chinese Food. We just allow more time for pickup and haven't been disappointed in any dish yet! read more

Probably the best Chinese food in the east coast. I should know, I'm Chinese, born in Taiwan and raised in California. I know what good Chinese food is. We had the Crispy Eggplant, Vegetable Lo mein, Scallion Pancakes and Fried Bean Curd with Special Sauce. And the sauce is delicious. So were everything else. The lo mein was cooked perfectly and the texture of the scallion pancakes were delicious. Our favorite was the crispy eggplant. The food was fine. Nothing special, but better than the food court and definitely better than I was expecting! Everything tasted fresh and nothing was too greasy. The wonton soup was adequate, but I wouldn't get the egg drop soup again. Cheap prices, big portions, good value. The restaurant and bathroom were both clean on my recent visit. I can't say this is my favorite Chinese restaurant, but the Hudson Valley isn't exactly a Chinese food eating destination. We are usually Super Bowls customers but out of curiosity and a recommendation from a friend we tried Kai's. Very nice people. However, this is very standard American style Chinese food. I'm not quite sure why people give it five stars. I'm also not sure why people give it one star, as I'm not sure what they were expecting... all in all we had a mediocre three star experience. Our vegetable noodles had very few veggies of interest and was quite bland. The general Tso's chicken was ok, too much dough and not enough big chunks of chicken. Everything was delicious, the owners and employees wanted to make sure we enjoyed everything, and there was so much that we took most of it home. So cheap! I am a fan because it is next to Kokokobi's amazing chocolate shop. However, Kai and his team are a great addition to the strip of shops along Albany Ave. Kai is very enthusiastic and really, earnestly wants people to enjoy his food. He prides himself on keeping prices low enough that people can keep coming back. I regularly get a steamed chicken and veggies with General Tso sauce on the side for lunch. It comes with brown rice and either soup or a drink. All for about $6.50. I have told him that I wish his prices were actually a little higher so I would be sure he is using the best ingredients (we eat mostly organic food at home) but, compared to other fare along Ulster/Albany Ave (Subway, Pizza Hut, Zenon's wings, etc.) Kai's food stands out because of the pride he has in making it. You will get a ton of delicious and filling(!) food the price of a crappy combo meal from McDonalds across the street. You can call-in an order (probably the best way to go) or walk in, just be warned that the owner does all the cooking so the wait might be a bit more than you would expect but good things will come. A hole in the wall treasure; don't expect any bells and whistles (seriously), just good American-Chinese food. Every dish comes out *piping* hot and the taste test? It's clear that what they're preparing is made on premises, right down to the freshly-made crispy soup noodles. No store bought or frozen products found here. The portions are heaping (see Chicken Lo Mein) and the staff is attentive and observant. My only complaint would be that the flavor of the Egg Roll (a lot of cabbage) and Crab Rangoon (mostly cream cheese) were not what I expected, but I was with a local who said that was unusual. Kai's Kitchen has become one of my go-to places for lunch when I'm too lazy to cook something for myself. The lunch specials include soup or a soft drink, so I opt for the hot and sour soup. Freshly made, and so hot that I have to let it cool a bit before consuming. Portions are large, lots of choices, and the lunch special cannot be beat. Not quite as good as a trip to Chinatown in NYC, but a lot more convenient. Not only that, the owners are enthusiastically polite and cheerful, setting the example for other places in the area. Got excited from looking at the Yelp reviews and then got in the restaurant and was SUPER WARY. It seemed really sketchy and like it could be super crappy. I WAS WRONG. It was actually pretty fresh and delicious. They could stand to up their game in regards to the physical space. But for a hearty meal for two for under $20... it was solid.
