Gotta love their motto: "Every plate is made with love, and every customer is treated like family." I've had the pleasure of meeting Teresa on a few occasions and chatting a bit. She is just so genuine and earnest. I always look forward to seeing her and chatting if she has the time. Each time we are in the area (usually to visit Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Parks) we make sure to stop in. This visit we managed to come in twice! Yay! Just love the working model train set perched overhead in both eating areas. If it's not running, just ask your server and they will turn it on. First visit I ordered the shredded beef enchiladas (comes with refried beans, rice, chips and salsa) along with a nice refreshing beer. Second visit I ordered the Trainwreck breakfast (eggs, hash browns, bell peppers, onions, tortilla chips, jack and cheddar cheese. Plus choice of two meats and two additional vegetables.) with biscuit and gravy. I choose two types of sausage, zucchini and avocado. Oh and an ice cold beer of course. Both meals were fresh and delicious. No matter what I order here I always know it will be tasty and well balanced. Service is always friendly, helpful and courteous! We've been to Red Caboose a couple of times, once for lunch and once for dinner. Lunch was okay, but dinner was disappointing. The fajitas were overcooked, and the enchilada was topped with what tasted more like gravy than enchilada sauce, which was really strange. The kids' mac and cheese looked and tasted like something straight from a box. Service was okay, although a little slow. We haven't tried breakfast, so maybe that's where they shine, but based on our lunch and dinner experiences, I don't think we'd go back. read more

Stopped by The Red Caboose Cafe for breakfast and had a decent experience overall. The cafe has a cozy, small-town feel that makes it inviting, and the staff was friendly when we arrived. Our food came out fairly quickly, and the portions were reasonable. That said, the meal was a bit hit or miss. Some items were flavorful, while others felt a little under-seasoned. When I was a kid one of the things I wanted most for Christmas was a train set.  It was magical watching the train going around the Christmas tree.  I would watch in the morning and I would watch it in the dark at night. Now one of the things I look forward to is visiting King's Canyon.  After seeing the sequoia's we have dinner at Red Caboose Cafe.  I get to watch the trains run while our food is looking. There is a huge menu but I can't resist the honey fried chicken. Honey fried chicken had a crunchy batter with sweet honey flavor.  Chicken was tender and juicy.  Red Caboose Cafe is one of my fav places to get this style chicken. Tater tots had a crispy exterior and decious potato flavor. Beef barley soup had a delicious flavor from the beef, barley, carrot, and seasonings.  I have not seen this soup anywhere else. Roll was soft and had a tasty buttery flavor. Hospitality was excellent and everybody was treated like a regular.  I met the owner Teresa Claborn and she was very gracious with her time talking about the trains and nearby National Parks.  I look forward to visiting again to watch the trains run, trying more menu items, and enjoying the fine hospitality. read more

The Red Caboose is our go-to breakfast place. We're always seated promptly, service is great and food is good. I love their eggs benedict and blueberry pancakes, but they have a lot of other great options. My toddler loves to watch the train go around the ceiling, it's really cute. It's a little drive from where we live, but it's nice to get out of the city every once in while. read more

Normally, this is a go to restaurant choice when we are in the mood for comfort food... the food is good, the service very good... when the owners are there. This evening I took my mother out for her birthday and she chose to go here. We sat right away, and the waitress came for our drink order, brought it back in a reasonable time, forgot my lemon, but told me twice she would be right back. That was the last we saw of her. Over twenty minutes later, after she had taken the order for a table seated after us, never returned to take our order or bring my lemon we decided to leave. I offered to pay for the soda my mother ordered but the same waitress said, "That's ok, sorry." Really? I guess the men sitting at the bar were more important than those of us sitting at the tables. Breakfast and lunch are winners at The Red Caboose... dinner too if the right waitresses are working. Tonight wasn't one of those nights. read more

Good food, I ordered the blue burger with sweet potato fries. It was a nice spot for some family chit chat and the coffee was really good. My grandmother and dad had breakfast and it looked so good. Service was fast and our server was very kind. No issues on a Mother's Day remembering my Mama. Nice atmosphere get there early good food means big crowds. read more

The train theme is cool and there is a train track with a model train on it, hanging from the ceiling. I'm not sure if it currently works, but it did look cool. I ordered the Machaca breakfast plate with flour tortillas. If you've never had Machaca, it's tender shredded beef sautéed with peppers, onions, and mixed with eggs. Then you take that delicious mixture put it in a tortilla and enjoy! I had mine made with egg whites this time around and it was delicious. I really enjoyed the Serano peppers they used instead of bell peppers. If Serrano peppers are too hot for you can ask them to sub for bell peppers or just remove them all together. This plate came with a side of potatoes that were good, but a little on the salty side. I tried my wife's biscuits and gravy, and it was flavorless for me, but with a little S&P my wife enjoyed. Our server (Nellie?) was awesome! She was a super attentive and checked on us regularly. Making sure our waters and coffee were always full. The vibe here is OK, but it is a little red if you catch my drift. I'm not really a fan of eating breakfast while Fox News is blasting in the background. This won't affect my review rating, but if I can offer suggestion, leave the TVs on and the volume off. Maybe play some music instead of the news commentary? Just a thought. read more

Well all you beautiful folks I finally made the ride to par take in some truly great homemade food fare. Now what makes this place phenomenal ? Let me tell you. It's Melinda the waitress who makes you feel truly special the second that you step through the door. This fantastic person makes you feel like you're home. This establishment did an awesome job finding folks like Melinda to take care of those who visit this food place. The interior is like its name railroad oriented, even with a running train moving over head while you dine and enjoy some great food. This is a decent spot to eat, I've eaten here 3 times and each time it took a while to either get our order in and get our order served The location is a little out of the way but it's nice and quiet drive the restaurant decore is all about train and country but looks outdated. The staff is ok they do get busy in the morning. The food is decent best item for me is the oatmeal with toast. This is just my opinion as I know others who really enjoy eating here so please try it for yourself. read more

Wow! The Red Caboose is a wonderful place to have breakfast! After making a trip to buy the best watermelon in Fresno (ie. Dickie Don's in Clovis) we decided to go out to breakfast too. I think with time The Red Caboose is even more excellent! I love the model trains going through the restaurant. Customers with children and adults enjoyed watching the trains. The children were especially mesmerized by the train. Great service and friendly staff made the visit to the restaurant special. It seemed like it wasn't the first time most customers were there! ( That's a good sign). My husband ordered the Machaca. It is a combination of dried beef with eggs, veggies and jalapeno chilies scramble. I ordered the bacon and eggs (my favorite). Both meals came with country potatoes and your choice of toast, biscuits and gravy or tortillas. I think they serve the best biscuits and gravy in Clovis. They are delicious!! Love this place! It's quite a drive but so worth it. We've been a couple of times for breakfast - the biscuits and gravy are so so so good. We went this past Saturday for dinner. We both got the country fried steak dinner which comes with mashed potatoes, country gravy, green beans with bacon and a roll. By far the best country fried steak I've ever had. Response to owner. Eggs over medium: Over-medium: Flipped and cooked longer on both sides, so the yolk is barely runny, but still jammy. What you serviced was over easy. Medium is to hardly have any runny yolk. Thanks for letting me know that the corned beef hash is not freshly prepared by Red Caboose. My assumption is that if offered (by a restaurant), there's actually corned beef lot mush mystery meat. And you see a golden TOP layer of hashbrown that fell apart. Not browned inside to "set". Thank you for acknowledging my concern. But I will not come back or recommend an establishment that offers canned corned beef hash and do not understand the difference between over easy, medium or hard eggs. I am not trying to be mean, but a private message would've been better rather responding defensively with excuses - it only makes matters worse. read more

Stopped in for dinner, as I was staying at an Airbnb in the area. The place was pretty busy, for a Thursday night. The restaurant was very bright and clean, and everybody was very friendly. I decided to have the pot roast. It came with a bowl of beef, barley soup, mashed potatoes with gravy, and green beans with bacon. The soup was delicious! A good amount of beef, the broth was delicious, and there was a lot of barley which I like. As has happened before,, I tore into it so fast I didn't get a picture. The pot roast was mostly successful. The pot roast itself was flavorful, and tender enough that I could cut it with a fork. The carrots were tender, the gravy was very good, and I really enjoyed the green beans with bacon. The reason I'm taking away a star, is because while the potatoes were delicious, they were only warm to cool at best. I don't know if they were sitting while they were preparing the rest of the meal. Also, on the pot roast, they didn't cook the onions all the way through. They tasted raw, and I didn't care for that. . The roll was also good, but it was a little bit tough. Other than those small things, the meal was still very good. The prices were a bit on the high-end, but reasonable for what I got. Also, they were nice enough to give a military/veterans discount. We stopped coming here a while back after what happened on two occasions: The first time, I asked for a coffee with hazelnut creamer, the waitress said she'd bring me some creamer shortly. We waited over 20 min for the creamer when we noticed she had left it at the kitchen counter. My boyfriend had to go pick it up himself and bring it to our table, but by then, my coffee had already gone cold. When the waitress finally came back to check on us, I asked for another coffee and she took another long time to bring it to our table. She also seemed annoyed that I had asked for another coffee. We gave them another chance and went back a few weekends after. This time I ordered an avocado burger. When my plate came out, I literally had to put the burger together. All the veggies were just strewn all over the plate. And of course, they forgot to add the avocado. When I told the waitress I was missing the avocado she simply brought me some slices in a small bowl. Same attitude as the previous waitress from the coffee incident. Like, sorry, but it's not my fault you guys are always understaffed that you can't provide decent service. Just save yourself the headaches and disappointments and go to Blossom Trail instead. read more

It's been a long while since we've been here so goin on memory. I think hubby had a burger that had avocado & mushrooms I think with onion rings & he liked it. I got an omelette with spinach & mushrooms but the hash browns weren't cooked right still like raw in the middle & I always asked for them to be cooked well done on both sides. The mimosas there are ok but they don't use Corbel & they poor it in a glass for you which didn't seem very much at the time. We've came here with family also & im assuming we're satisfied but getting our food was lil slow. Now this was a long while ago but I've heard they're open for dinner so looking forward to goin for that soon! It was Mother's Day so they were busy. Reservations at 11:00, arrived at 10:50, let them know we were present... seared at 10:55. Great service for such a busy day. Food was good and affordable... we were BJ's country kitchen fans but they changed and are no longer the same. The Red Caboose is now our go to place for breakfast. read more

Had lunch here while working in the area as it was recommended by the locals. We really appreciated that they served beer since most diners don't, even if it wasn't particularly well priced. Not that it was expensive per se, it was just as expensive as any hipster bar, but lacked any atmosphere. The food was decent and the prices were just ok. The service was great though. Overall, it did its job providing sustenance, but at over $60 after tip for lunch for 2, it won't be a place I'll return any time soon. Again, average food that did its job, just not really worth the splurge of that cost ($60 is 3 hours of a fast food worker's life and nearly 4 hours of a minimum wage worker's life). If the food was higher quality or the prices were lower, it would easily be a place to go back to. read more

The place is a nice, above average breakfast spot located way out toward Sanger in Clovis. It's decorated with a bunch of cheesy patriotic type stuff, but it's nice enough. The food was great. I've gone here twice for breakfast and each time not impressed. It's very old and run down looking. This time the train didn't work, which was the only reason we went (for the kids) . It seems there is only one waitress for everybody. She's not pleasant. My grandson ordered a pizza (kids meal menu) and 10 minutes later a lady (not our waitress) returned to the table stating can't make pizza's until 11. So once we reordered something for him, the adults came out and his was late. May as well be served on paper plates. The food is served on child like plastic plates. Omelette and hash browns greasy. Coffee served in cold mug. So luke warm going down. With prices these days, if I'm going to pay $15 + for a simple, meatless omelette, I want to like it and the environment! Felt like the longest 17min drive to nowhere from our place to this location. My husband and I wanted to try a new breakfast place and wanted to give this a try. Arrived Saturday just before 11am we were so happy to see that there wasn't people waiting outside to get seated. As we entered there was hardly anyone there we were immediately greeted and seated. Child friendly, they gave our daughter crayons and coloring mat. Anita our server was very friendly, attentive and was lively. I ordered a breakfast sausage burrito (option of protein) with a single stack of chocolate chip pancake and my husband ordered an omelette. It took about 15mins to get our food. Everything was fresh and hot as it made it to our table. The pancake was huge the burrito looked small but it was very dense. Everything was delicious I loved the crunchiness of the hash browns in my breakfast burrito. My husband can be quite picky but he certainly enjoyed this place he kept talking about how good his omelette was and how he would love to come back here for breakfast. Highly recommend. Haven't eaten here in years, only because it's a bit of a road trip. This morning, our car club had an end of year gathering at The Red Caboose Cafe. There's a covered and heated outdoor patio that fit us all (almost 50 people) just perfectly. The servers were nice and worked hard to keep up with all our requests. Very extensive menu...some members opted for breakfast and others for lunch. The hubby ordered the chorizo and eggs, they were perfectly cooked. I decided on the Western omelette from the senior menu ( two eggs instead of three). It was very tasty, as were the country potatoes. The biscuit and gravy that came with my meal was delicious. We wanted to try a different breakfast place. Came on a Saturday morning before 9am and got a table right away. Got the corned beef hash, scrambled eggs w hash browns and biscuit gravy. Corned beef hash was minced and crispy on outside, hash browns were crispy outside but ever so slightly undercooked on inside, biscuit reminded me of a popover which was tasty and different. Companion got the breakfast nacho dish- which was delicious, kept eating off his plate. Can get 2 meats and veggies- German sausage, linguica, mushrooms and avocado. Would def order again. Wanted to try a new breakfast place in the area, was stumbled to see that it was out in the almost countryside. Didn't know there were restaurants out there! Came on a Saturday morning and although restaurant was super busy, was able to get seated instantly. They were short staffed but let us know ahead of time and apologized when they first greeted our table. The decor is super cute revolving around trains and even has a couple of toy trains moving around! Ordered the chicken fried steak with my sister and they were even kind enough to split the meal onto two plates for us. I really enjoyed the food. Lori and I went to the Red Caboose to have Breakfast walked in stood for a long time. Owner saw us there was a table right in front, we ask if we could sit there and he said no. He was hoping for 5 people to show up for this table cause it sat 5 instead of having us sit down and taking our money, that is truly bad management.
